Mitch begins his comeback tour by playing the MAXXED ULTRA Testosta-boosted Dude-fuel 2026 Gathering of the Q-uggalos, an off-the-grid militant hillbilly shock comedy festival at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia, but his set gets interrupted by a mysterious bag-headed interloper and the festival itself erupts in chaos and destruction when mysterious unknown invaders descend over the festival grounds.Endnotes:Phyllis DIller (with Richard Buskin), Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse; My Life in Comedy (New York, Penguin, 2005) p.225-244 (Chapter 10:”A Change of Face”) Capsule Review: Diller forged a career from almost nothing, with arguably less social advantage than her peer-contemporaries such as Joan Rivers or even Moms Mabley. There's plenty of self-deprecation, or perhaps self-loathing, on display throughout, although once her will to self-actualization clicked into place she let no one stand in her way. There is some dated racial humor that doesn't play very well, of course, and times when her ambition eclipses her affection for friends and family, such as the occasion when she ditched her 3rd husband/love-of-her-life on his proverbial death-bed so she could make a gig, that make her less than sympathetic. But she had to be tough to make it in the biz, at least that's how she saw it. Slack Score: -9; Snark Score: 9; Overall FCA ranking: 39Jeff Dunham, All by my Selves; Walter, Peanut, Achmed and me (New York, Penguin, 2010) p5 Capsule Review: pretty innocuous, bordering on vapid, story of an average kid who gets into an unusual hobby early and sticks with it obsessively until he manages to become rich and famous from it. Not much in the way of drama, he really stretches to make his minor “controversies” sound serious. The most unusual/interesting aspect is that he gives his characters little sections to speak for themselves, but as anyone who's seen his act knows, they're not very interesting either, and painfully unfunny. Slack Score: 7.5; Snark Score: 1; Overall FCA ranking: 611Roseanne Barr, Roseannearchy; Dispatches from trhe Nut Farm (New York, Simon & Schuster, 2011) p80 Capsule Review: an all-over-the-place collection of essays and reminiscences, sometimes baffling, sometimes banal. She's still a pretty decent writer, and certain passages are pretty compelling, but the lack of focus and inherent contradictions make it difficult to stay with her. Slack Score: 7; Snark Score: 6; Overall FCA ranking: 185Lewis Black, Me of Little Faith (New York, Penguin, 2008) p.57 Capsule Review: More a series of comedic essays on religion/faith than a memoir, there's enough autobio here for me to rank it as an FCA, but not too highly. Definitely benefits from the audiobook presentation as 90% of Black's humor comes from his quavering, angry inflection. Somewhat inconsistent on where he actually lands on his personal faith. He criticizes atheists as having a worthless, miserable existence but also claims to be the least religious person alive. Likewise he constantly identifies himself as Jewish while also claiming to have no personal connection to the faith or the culture. The arguments shift, in other words, to fit the jokey jag of the passage, which is fine, just not a lot of depth or consistency here. Slack Score: 5; Snark Score: 14; Overall FCA ranking: 413

Due to unforeseen technical difficulties caused by an influx of listeners pizza secrets, solar flares, hardware malfunctions, perfectly-timed jazz music, February having an extra day, and eating too many mercury-infused Floridian pythons; this episode of Weirds of a Feather may sound like like there is more chemically injected static than your usual broadcast. We assure you this is not the case and you probably just have tinnitus (this podcast in no way is actually saying that you have tinnitus and it is entirely on our end). We appreciate your patience during these trying times.. On with the show! (Love you) Thread your needles and bust out the rickrack (whatever that is), because this episode Grace is shining a light on the intricate world of lampshade making. She's taking over Hobby Collectors to let you know what materials you need, how to get started, and whether this hobby can hold an ADHDer's attention long enough to make a lamp. Phyllis Diller (1917-2012) was a pioneering female comic in the U.S. Her invented onstage persona – a hapless housewife with a dawdling husband named Fang – was iconic on late-night TV and in theaters across the country. Her abrasive humor left no stone unturned and paved the way for female comics to embrace a more unconventional style of comedy. They transgressed societal norms through comedy and often spoke out against injustice using their sharp wit. History classes can get a bad rap, and sometimes for good reason. When we were students, we couldn't help wondering... where were all the ladies at? Why were so many incredible stories missing from the typical curriculum? Enter, Womanica. On this Wonder Media Network podcast we explore the lives of inspiring women in history you may not know about, but definitely should. Every weekday, listeners explore the trials, tragedies, and triumphs of groundbreaking women throughout history who have dramatically shaped the world around us. In each 5 minute episode, we'll dive into the story behind one woman listeners may or may not know–but definitely should. These diverse women from across space and time are grouped into easily accessible and engaging monthly themes like Educators, Villains, Indigenous Storytellers, Activists, and many more. Womanica is hosted by WMN co-founder and award-winning journalist Jenny Kaplan. The bite-sized episodes pack painstakingly researched content into fun, entertaining, and addictive daily adventures. This week on On Story, AFF Moderator Andy Volk sat down with writer-director Elegance Bratton and actor Raúl Castillo for a post-screening Q&A of their latest feature film, The Inspection. Released last November by A24, The Inspection is an absolutely heart-wrenching drama inspired by Bratton's own experience. The film follows Ellis French, a young, gay black man played by Tony-nominated actor Jeremy Pope who is rejected by his mother and family. With very few options for his future, Ellis joins the Marines, doing whatever it takes to succeed in a system that has cast him aside. This deeply moving film is a sharp look at how one can find strength, support, and a sense of belonging in the most unexpected places. Just as inspiring as the film is Elegance Bratton's own artistic trajectory, which exemplifies perseverance and determination in creation. Bratton began making films while serving as a US Marine after spending a decade homeless. Now an acclaimed, boundary-breaking director, writer, and producer, Bratton's films have played at over two hundred film festivals worldwide, including Sundance, Outfest, BFI, New York City, Black Star Film Festival, and of course, at the Austin Film Festival. Beyond Bratton's festival success, he made his television debut as the creator and executive producer of the Viceland series, My House, which was nominated in 2019 for the GLAAD Media Award's Outstanding Documentary category. Additionally, his 2019 documentary, Pier Kids, made its streaming debut in August of 2021. Also in 2021, Bratton received the Film Independent Truer than Fiction Spirit Award presented to emerging directors of non-fiction features. And let's not forget that Bratton holds degrees from both Columbia University and the NYU Tisch Graduate School of Film. Yet summing up Elegance by merely his degrees, accolades, and awards does not provide the full picture. A master of harvesting film narratives and the overlooked stories right in front of us, Elegance uses his vision to highlight the universal power of our shared humanity. Joining Bratton is actor, playwright, and Texas's own Raúl Castillo. Castillo stars in the film as Rosales, a drill instructor who takes French under his wing. Castillo's artful performance is a nuanced depiction of masculinity and vulnerability, subverting traditional narratives through the duality of Rosales's stern yet nurturing mentorship, a complexity Castillo was eager to explore. Known for his starring roles in Amexicano, Cold Weather, We Are the Animals, as well as his role as Richie Donado Ventura in the HBO series, Looking, Castillo is known for his truthful embodiments of complex masculinity. Originally a playwright, Castillo has brought authentic Latinx stories to off-Broadway stages through his plays Border Stories, a trio of one-acts about life at the US-Mexico border, Knives and Other Sharp Objects, which premiered at the Public Theater in New York City, and his dark comedic family drama, Between You, Me, and the Lampshade, developed with the Atlantic Theater Company. We were thrilled to have both Elegance and Raúl, two exceptional storytellers, at the Austin Film Festival to speak to their creative process behind the film. So, do I have your attention yet? Are you standing at attention? Good. Let's dive deeper into The Inspection. Clips of The Inspection courtesy of A24.

Teme u epizodi: - Uvod - Kad porastem biću... - Fenomen zvani Buč Kesidi - Kako Universal Music deluje u ovom regionu? - Šta je ideja Zadužbine Milana Mladenovića? "I'm an electric lampshade" is a heart warming and thought provoking true docu-narrative chronicling Doug McCorkle's journey from accountatn to EDM and pop music star. His rendition of Liliy Allen's song "The Fear" is hauntingly beautiful. In director John Clayton Doyle's hands, the tale of Doug's metamorphosis from aging businessman to flamboyant and strong performer is taken from a simple "it's never too late to change" story to this often hallucanegonic trip that thrills the viewer. Taking you from New York to the Phillipines and Mexico, with a supporting cast in the form of Doug's classmates at performing arts school, his former coworkers and of course his lovely, supporting wife, "I'm an electric lampshade" is definitely worth the cost of admission and deserving of accolades such as these... "One of the more jaw-dropping debuts you'll ever see" Michael Fox KQED, San Fransisco "Easily one of the best documentaries of the year. Doug McCorkle is my new hero" Yorkshire Magazine The film is currently on the festival circuit worldwide. For more information head over to Imanelectriclampshade.com

Pop Art Painter Jamie Roxx (www.JamieRoxx.us) welcomes Doug McCorkle, Actor (I'M AN ELECTRIC LAMPSHADE | Film: Documentary, Music) to the Show! (Click to got there) ● Web: imanelectriclampshade.com ● IG: @electriclampshade ● IMDB: www.imdb.com/title/tt14170748 Director John Clayton Doyle's acclaimed documentary-narrative hybrid I'M AN ELECTRIC LAMPSHADE is embarking on a widescale festival run this fall across North America. Called both “one of the best documentaries of the year” (on-magazine.co.uk), and “One of the best films we'll see all year” (KQED), the mind-bending music odyssey tells of Doug McCorkle, a buttoned- up, mild-mannered corporate accountant. After retiring at age 60, Doug puts his marriage and life savings on the line to chase his wildest dream. Shot in the United States, Mexico & the Philippines, the film has been compared to Sean Baker's Tangerine, with much of the cast playing versions of themselves, adding to the authenticity of a film that would've been difficult to fake. Featuring superlative performances from Doug McCorkle, Regina McCorkle, Cesar Valentino, Isra Jeron Ysmael, Darnell Peart, Robin Dunn, Mark Joseph Aquino, Marshall Factora, and Marion McCorkle Beckerman. ● Media Inquiries: October Coast www.octobercoastpr.com
Aimee Bender is the author of six books, including both novels and short story collections. Her latest novel, The Butterfly Lampshade, came out in July of 2020 and was listed by Publisher's Weekly as one of the best novels of the year. Bender joins Marrie Stone to talk about the book's inspiration and construction. In the process, she exposes the creative fodder that's gifted to us by our own childhoods. She talks about how imposing time limitations on her writing allows her access to scary places, and how to listen to words that "shimmer." Those words and phrases can be the keys that guide your book in the right direction. Bender teaches creative writing at USC, has taught several other fiction workshops, and written several essays on the craft. She brings that wealth of experience and reflection to this interview to impart a lot of wisdom for both beginning and advanced writers. Download audio. (Broadcast date: September 1, 2021)

On the night her single mother is taken to a mental hospital after a psychotic episode, eight year-old Francie is staying with her babysitter, waiting to take the train to Los Angeles to go live with her aunt and uncle. There is a lovely lamp next to the couch on which she’s sleeping, the shade adorned with butterflies. When she wakes, Francie spies a dead butterfly, exactly matching the ones on the lamp, floating in a glass of water. She drinks it before the babysitter can see. Twenty years later, Francie is compelled to make sense of that moment, and two other incidents — her discovery of a desiccated beetle from a school paper, and a bouquet of dried roses from some curtains. Her recall is exact — she is sure these things happened. But despite her certainty, she wrestles with the hold these memories maintain over her, and what they say about her own place in the world. As Francie conjures her past and reduces her engagement with the world to a bare minimum, she begins to question her relationship to reality. The scenes set in Francie’s past glow with the intensity of childhood perception, how physical objects can take on an otherworldly power. The question for Francie is, What do these events signify? And does this power survive childhood? Told in the lush, lilting prose that led the San Francisco Chronicle to say Aimee Bender is “a writer who makes you grateful for the very existence of language,” The Butterfly Lampshade is a heartfelt and heartbreaking examination of the sometimes overwhelming power of the material world, and a broken love between mother and child. Bender is in conversation with Sarah Shun-lien Bynum, the author of two novels—Ms. Hempel Chronicles, a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award, and Madeleine Is Sleeping, a finalist for the National Book Award and winner of the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize. _______________________________________________ Produced by Maddie Gobbo & Michael Kowaleski Theme: "I Love All My Friends," a new, unreleased demo by Fragile Gang. He was called “Lampshade” for criticizing the lurid anti-Semitic paintings of Italian Catholic painter Giovanni Gasparro. In a painting produced recently, at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, Gasparro depicted the fraudulent “blood libel” ritual murder of Christian baby Simon of Trent that triggered the 1475 murder of 15 Jews. He posted images of his work on the internet during the Coronavirus Pandemic of 2020. The target of this internet attack was Dexter Van Zile, Shillman Research Fellow for Boston-based Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA). From this vantage point, Van Zile defends the Jewish people and their homeland from defamation. His message is a simple one: “When you falsely depict Israel as a genocidal nation and an enemy of human rights, you demonize Jews as a genocidal and marauding people, who are threats to the societies in which they live. Demonizing Israel legitimizes violence against Jews no matter where they live.” Rod Reuven Dovid Bryant and Jerry Gordon of Israel News Talk Radio Beyond the Matrix brought back Van Zile. They discuss why classic imagery of medieval anti-Semitism is rising again during the catastrophic COVID-19 Pandemic. Numerous commentators in Europe, the Middle East and even in the U.S. falsely accuse Jews, Israel and the US of being behind and profiting from the Global Pandemic that at last count, has infected over 2 million cases and killed more than 125,000. AfterBirth, A Fourth and More Trimester Support Group: Topic: Making Friends, Batteling Anxiety I (Rowan) used to have a nutbar therapist that I ADORE named Patty Hewlitt, and she helped me come up with something we called the "friend-making exercise" which is essentially flexing the social muscle without drowning in anxiety and getting chewed up by the "what if monsters" as defined Tiff. I tell a pretty funny story about an early nineties friend making exercise that went down at a Halloween Party in Montrose, with a plot twist! Dr.B talks about her New York FME (friend making exercise) where she thrifts up a storm. Bev says she tried that once, everyone was bitches. So how do we make this work? Judgment. After a number of run-ins with the Klingons during Enterprise's first two seasons, Captain Archer finally found himself in a place familiar to Star Trek fans: a Klingon courtroom. “Judgment” takes us back to the ice caves of Rura Penthe, but it also does more than simply repeat the events of The Undiscovered Country. It also attempts to add some depth to Klingon society. In this episode of The Ready Room, we're joined by Norm Lao, Will Nguyen, and Phillip Gilfus to discuss Archer's trial, why the Klingons have it out for him, whether the use of Star Trek VI tie-ins was a clever connection or a creative crutch, and why the Klingons should be glad Mystery, Inc. didn't make a cameo. During the long, cold winter nights I like to cozy up with a hot cup of cider and sit down to watch a movie or read a good book, and to help set the mood (because who DOESN'T take the time to set a mood?) I'll turn on a nice accent light and let it bath me in its warm glow. On today's episode we're making a wood veneer lampshade for just the kind of accent lighting that I like to use. The project is super simple, and you can batch a whole bunch of them out to be placed wherever you think a little light needs to be cast. The veneer I’m using for this particular project came from the folks at Oakwood Veneer at www.oakwoodveneer.com. It’s a paperback cherry veneer that’s easily bendable and cuts clean with very little splintering. It comes in a variety of species, and we already have some amazing Douglas Fir veneer waiting for another project or set of lights. It’s not only the species of veneer you can experiment with, but also the design of the seam where the two ends meet. In this video I’ll demonstrate how to create a zigzag pattern that looks pretty sharp when the light is turned on, but there are so many options to play with, the choice is completely yours. When Jesus commands us not to put any bushel (the same as a covering, or lampshade, ) over his light which is now in us, as we are also to be in him, he means it. In Matthew 5:14-16, is where we are told this. We were not saved by ANY church organization, rather by The Light, who is Christ Jesus. Somewhere in the past, we lost our way in this nation and made it about the 501-c-3, or the "organization of church" as a business entity, and too many are no longer being the lampstands we're supposed to be. Check out Revelation 2:5 for a warning against covering up the light of Jesus? So, be encouraged by these words The Lord Jesus prompted me to share with you, repent if he prompts you to, and let his light shine through you once again. I love and by The Spirit of God, know I'm praying for ya'll often. bill
After one whole month, we finally return! In today's show we discuss some changes to Retrocore and Retrocore Classic Gaming Music for the New Year. Don't worry though, they are all for the better. (Yes what I said on the air is true. If I get enough complaints, I'll put the background music back.) Thanks to Poisoned Peach, there was a review of the NES game Lampshade, er Nightshade!! We also teamed up with our special Retrocore powers to review New Super Mario Bros. Wii!! Thanks for all the downloads while we were gone, and send in those emails to: Retrocore@hotmail.com
Well, it happened. They've put a gag order on the boys. Profanity will only get you so far. The man from the agency said and I quote, 'It's not big and it's not clever'. We'll see. Citizens of the world, rise up and shake off the shackles of oppression. The pursuit of life, love, chocolate fingers and the undeniable right to swear like a docker at low tide is something our ancestors fought for, died for and cursed about. In the mean time, enjoy tales from the cradle of civilisation, the well of inspiration, the ugly but lovely city of Glasgow. With a bit of Lennoxtown and Paisley thrown in. Meet two guys who are shadier than Shady Sadie, the Lampshade seller, Shug and Ned Sed. They will return in episode 6, more profane than ever. To quote that wise philosopher Kevin Costner, If you want it, they will curse.
