Most sales teams are reactive — waiting for buyers to fill out a form, book a demo, or respond to an email. Tal Peretz, co-founder and CEO of OnFire AI, is building the infrastructure to change that. OnFire monitors millions of public signals across Reddit, Stack Overflow, LinkedIn, Slack, and technical forums to identify high-intent buyers before they ever contact your sales team.In this episode, Tal breaks down how AI is transforming go-to-market for companies selling to technical buyers — CTOs, CISOs, and engineers — who notoriously resist generic outreach and respond only to context-rich, well-timed conversations. Tal shares his journey from engineer to CEO, how he and his co-founder interviewed 275 revenue leaders before writing a line of code, what it's really like to raise a $20M seed round, and the hard-won lessons of learning to sell as a first-time founder. From ICP discovery and outcome-based pricing to the future of AI in sales, this is a masterclass in signal-driven, intent-based revenue growth.Key Takeaways0:00 — Why most sales teams miss buyers who are already signaling intent publicly2:07 — Intro to Tal Peretz: Co-founder & CEO of OnFire AI3:56 — The origin story: 275 revenue leader interviews before building the product4:36 — How OnFire works: Capturing public web signals, de-anonymizing prospects, and delivering real-time context to sales teams6:25 — Why selling to CTOs, CISOs, and engineers is uniquely difficult — and uniquely valuable7:36 — The 50-million-engineer insight: Turning public technical conversations into revenue intelligence10:04 — What true AI ROI looks like: efficiency gains + directly attributed pipeline11:15 — The 4X pipeline result: What customers see in their first quarter with OnFire11:52 — Speed + personalization + human touch: Why all three are required for signal-based outreach13:03 — Raising a $20M seed round and what hypergrowth pressure really means13:47 — What makes a great investor: shared values, chemistry, and true partnership in hard moments15:59 — Managing pressure: Working backwards from a 24-month North Star to break goals into milestones17:07 — Building vs. selling: What was harder in the early days17:59 — An engineer who learned to love sales: How Tal found his passion for closing deals19:21 — The ICP trap: Why selling to everyone early is the most costly mistake a founder makes20:51 — The outbound playbook: Cold calling, LinkedIn, and the "stealth company" message that landed their biggest customers22:10 — The consulting approach: Why leading with curiosity instead of a pitch built their enterprise pipeline24:41 — The three-layer go-to-market machine: Brand, field/events, and outbound working together26:45 — Selling six-figure enterprise deals: Going on-site, acting as a partner, not a vendor28:51 — Staying focused in a crowded AI market: The "build on top of the platform" rule30:02 — Building go-to-market teams as a technical founder: The hardest challenge32:14 — The biggest AI pricing mistake: Why outcome-based pricing is the future35:03 — Sales-led vs. product-led growth: How Tal thinks about when and how to make the shift38:09 — The future of go-to-market: How AI eliminates the 80% of busy work reps do today40:53 — The one thing founders must nail to break through from product to real revenue41:38 — Where to find Tal and OnFire AITweetable Quotes"We monitor the public web for signals — competitors, pain points, product mentions — and surface them to your sales team in real time. I want to learn from your experience.' No pitch. Just curiosity. Our biggest customers today came from that exact message." — Tal PeretzSaaS Leadership Lessons1. Validate the market before you build the product. Tal and his co-founders interviewed 275 revenue leaders before writing a single line of code. They didn't fall in love with a solution — they found the problem first. For early-stage founders, this discipline separates products that get traction from ones that get ignored.2. Your ICP is not a marketing decision — it's a survival decision. Selling to every prospect early feels like progress, but it's a trap. Tal's hard-won insight: identify the customers with the biggest pain, the highest retention potential, and the best growth trajectory early, then build everything around them. Chasing the wrong customers burns runway and muddies your product roadmap.3. Great investors are chosen for the downside, not the upside. When everything is working, any investor looks great. The real test comes when something breaks. Tal defines great investors by shared core values, authentic chemistry, and willingness to engage as a true partner — not just a capital source — when the hard moments arrive.4. Act like a consultant before you act like a vendor. OnFire's biggest enterprise wins came from going on-site, meeting the full revenue team, mapping the customer's strategic goals, and co-designing a plan — before ever talking contract. For founders selling complex, high-ACV solutions, acting as a partner rather than a vendor changes the entire sales dynamic.5. Outcome-based pricing aligns your success with your customer's success. Charging by seat or token puts you in constant translation mode — always proving value. Pricing tied to outcomes (pipeline generated, conversations resolved, deals influenced) makes the value self-evident and creates a partnership, not a vendor relationship. The companies doing this best in AI are winning stickier, larger contracts.6. The future sales rep is an AI orchestrator, not a data processor. Today's reps spend ~80% of their time on research, sourcing, and admin — not selling. AI will progressively eliminate that 80%. The reps who thrive won't be those who resist the change, but those who master AI tooling and redirect all of their energy to the irreplaceable human skill: building trust and closing deals.Guest Resourcestal@onfire.aihttps://onfire.aihttps://www.linkedin.com/in/tal-peretz/instagram.com/peretztalx.com/TalPeretz13Episode SponsorThe Futureproof Series - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfkXKUPZ5xuOqMPR7_gzGybncTtavyR1NThe Captain's KeysSmall Fish, Big Pond – https://smallfishbigpond.com/ Use the promo code ‘SaaSFuel'Champion Leadership Group – https://championleadership.com/SaaS Fuel ResourcesWebsite - https://championleadership.com/Jeff Mains on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffkmains/Twitter - https://twitter.com/jeffkmainsFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/thesaasguy/Instagram - https://instagram.com/jeffkmains

There are few works in the history of theatre that have entered the emotional bloodstream of humanity quite like Fiddler on the Roof. More than a beloved Broadway musical, it is a profound meditation on family, faith, exile, resilience, identity, love, and the fragile balancing act between tradition and change. Since its debut in 1964, the story of Tevye the milkman, his wife Golde, and their daughters in the tiny shtetl of Anatevka has transcended culture, religion, language, and geography — because beneath its deeply Jewish story lies something universally human: the longing to hold onto one another while the world shifts beneath our feet. Now, in a remarkable and internationally celebrated production presented by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company, Fiddler on the Roof returns to the language and cultural heartbeat from which it was born — Yiddish. Performed entirely in Yiddish with English subtitles, this historic production arrives at Toronto's legendary Elgin Theatre from May 25 to June 7 under the direction of Tony and Academy Award winner Joel Grey. What began in New York as a six-week theatrical experiment became an 18-month sensation, earning major awards, standing ovations, and more than 500 performances. Critics called it revelatory. Audiences described it as hauntingly beautiful, deeply human, and emotionally transformative. At the center of this extraordinary artistic achievement stands Zalmen Mlotek — one of the world's foremost authorities on Yiddish theatre and song, Artistic Director of the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, and one of the great guardians of Jewish cultural continuity. Born into one of the most important Yiddish cultural families in North America, Mlotek grew up immersed in the language, music, and memory of Ashkenazi Jewish civilization. His father, Joseph Mlotek, edited the legendary Forverts (Yiddish Forward), while his mother, Eleanor Chana Mlotek, became one of the great archivists of Yiddish folk music. Zalmen himself studied at Juilliard and worked under the legendary Leonard Bernstein before dedicating his life to preserving and revitalizing Yiddish culture through theatre and song. Under his artistic leadership, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene — founded in 1915 and the world's longest continuously operating Yiddish theatre company — has become internationally celebrated for reviving classic Yiddish works and bringing Jewish theatrical history into the modern cultural imagination. Tonight, on The Avrum Rosensweig Show, we explore the enduring power of Fiddler on the Roof, the emotional resonance of hearing it performed in Yiddish, and why this language still carries what Joel Grey calls “history, humour, sorrow and resilience all at once.” For centuries, Yiddish became the emotional heartbeat of Jewish life — the language of storytelling, humour, commerce, lullabies, argument, heartbreak, and survival. Together, we also explore the great Yiddish literary and theatrical tradition shaped by figures such as Sholem Aleichem, I.L. Peretz, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Theo Bikel, Sheldon Harnick, and Itzhak Perlman — and how Yiddish theatre helped shape Broadway itself. But perhaps most importantly, this conversation asks why Fiddler on the Roof continues to unite audiences across generations, faiths, and backgrounds. Why a story rooted in one tiny Jewish village somehow speaks to all humanity. This is not merely an interview about theatre. It is a conversation about memory. About identity. About exile and belonging. About resilience. About family. And about the extraordinary power of language, music, and storytelling to keep a civilization alive. Ladies and gentlemen — Zalmen Mlotek. ——

Tomer Peretz is an Israeli - American artist whose work has been deeply shaped by lived experience of conflict and trauma. Following the events of October 7, he volunteered with ZAKA which included unfathomable tasks such as entering homes where scenes of profound devastation had taken place. In the wake of that experience, Peretz turned to art not only as personal processing, but as a form of response and reconstruction which helped him reach what he calls ‘PTG' - post traumatic growth. He went on to establish the LA - based “8 Project” an initiative that uses art residencies and workshops to support trauma survivors, offering creative expression as a pathway through grief, memory and psychological recovery. His work now sits at the intersection of art, trauma and healing, exploring how image - making can hold what language often cannot.

A Lecture Series by Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik Lecture 6: Delivered February 5, 1959 Continuing with the idea of Judaism's glorification of the anonymous person, the Talmud says that the participants in the annual “kallah” Torah lectures receive divine reward not according to their intellectual achievements, but according to the amount of discomfort they put themselves through in order to participate. Thus, the diligent ignoramus could receive more reward than the accomplished scholar. Judaism stresses axiological democracy, the equal worth of the great scholar and the little person. Modern Man has yet to live up to this ideal of axiological democracy, and the biggest challenge of today's State of Israel is to live up to this ideal. The Talmud captures this axiological democracy in its dictum, “How do you know that your blood is redder than the blood of your neighbor?” Although Judaism's moral code recognizes the common right to dignity, such that we may not judge or embarrass anyone, it places special emphasis on the dignity on the humble and lowly person, with special injunctions against harming the deaf, blind, orphan, widow, and stranger. Rabban Gamliel the Prince, under the order of execution by the Romans, considered that perhaps he deserved his fate due to once making a widow feel unimportant. This sense of tenderness towards the downtrodden reflects God's own behavior and attitude towards the poor and oppressed, as described in Scripture. Peretz's story “Bontzye Shweig” illustrates this idea as well. This analysis leads to the problem of Jewish loneliness, which requires distinguishing between two different feelings, loneliness and aloneness. Loneliness comes from others inevitably rejecting one's message, one's kerygma. Aloneness comes from the numinous uniqueness inherent in each person. Loneliness brings with it destructive emotions, whereas aloneness is a creative and motivating force. Every person must suffer the loneliness of rejection at some point in life. Next lecture will discuss how Judaism tries to solve the problem of loneliness. Topics triggered by audience questions include the Rosenberg trial, historical controversies among Jews, establishment of a Sanhedrin in Israel, and standardized text for prayer. This episode orbits LIMINOID's debut The Outernet, an idiosyncratic sonic tapestry and brilliantly-bizarre concept album where the searing precision of Rory Dolan, Luke Bemand, and Jonny G is masterfully manipulated by the surgical, mad scientist sound design of Yheti. Since it was always his baby, BG looks to Tyler Yheti to properly unpack the modus operandi behind the LIMINOID endeavor. This segment highlights the brilliance of the concept, recalls initial challenges performing this project live (see - Mishawaka in May 2025), the tricks and tools required to bring this genre-schitzo robot to life - both in studio and then onstage, and creating a new hybrid strain of intoxicating, brain-splattering sound art that exists beyond traditional boundaries. These one-on-one sessions allow for a more granular peek into personal growth, interband dynamics, and creative philosophies as they recognize a brotherhood that has kept them bonded since teenage garage band glory. We've both loved this movie for years, and thought discussing it would serve as a companion of sorts to our interview with Jason Zengerle about Tucker Carlson—and, of course, as a chance for us to geek out about it. After describing the basics of the plot and introducing the main characters, we explore the history of the New Republic under its then-owner and editor in chief Marty Peretz; its string of young, Harvard educated editors during the Peretz Era, who often had short, turbulent stints in that role; fact-checking and the mythos of objective journalism; the relationship between elite magazine writing and celebrity culture during "the end of history"; and more.Sources:Shattered Glass (2003)Buzz Bissinger, "Shattered Glass," Vanity Fair, Sept 1998Howard Kurtz, "Stranger Than Fiction: The Cautionary Tale of Magazine Writer Stephen Glass," Washington Post, May 12, 1998Jonathan Last, "Stopping Stephen Glass," Weekly Standard, Oct 30, 2003Pete Croatto, "Why ‘Shattered Glass' Endures," Poynter, Jan 24, 2024Martin Peretz, The Controversialist: Arguments with Everyone, Left Right and Center (2023)Benjamin Wallace-Wells, "Peretz in Exile," New York, Dec 23, 2010John Cook, "Why Won't Anyone Tell You That Marty Peretz Is Gay?" My guest on the show today is Ash Carter, writer and editor for Air Mail magazine and all around chronicler of the post-war cultural elite. I asked Ash to come on after reading the most recent in a series of profiles he's written about great editors of the 20th century, some of whom, for reasons we discuss, were semi-cancelled in the last decade or two. He's written about, for instance, former New Republic editor and owner Marty Peretz, Peretz's longtime literary editor Leon Wieseltier, Vintage Classics legend Gary Fisketjon, New York Review Classics visionary Edwin Frank, and Dick and Jeanette Seaver of Arcade Publishing. It's a fun conversation that hits on a few of my abiding concerns: the legacy of the WASP elite on our culture and politics, the ways in which we should think about people who do bad things but have made great things, and graphic design, which Ash cares about more than the average magazine editor.I lead off the episode by saying something, perhaps against my better judgement, about Jeffrey Epstein (or Jeff Epstein, as we started calling him in my family for some reason). Here's what I say. I am genuinely befuddled.I was listening to Jay Kang and Tyler Austin Harper's podcast, Time to Say Goodbye, and they weren't full conspiracy on Epstein, but I'd say 70% conspiracy. Here's Harper, for instance, on a recent episode:it does appear to be true that …. There is an international network of very powerful pedophiles that have a not inconsiderable amount of leverage on various halls of power. It shouldn't be lost. We've said this on the show before, but two out of the last four presidents were people who were very friendly with Epstein. But I think the real story here is that, yes, you have this hard kernel of like true blue elite pedophilesAnd then on the other side of things I was reading some posts by Michael Tracey and Matt Taibbi, and their perspective seems to be that Epstein was basically an immensely sleazy guy who paid for sex with young women and didn't look too closely at whether they were over or under 18 but didn't necessarily have a particular desire to have sex with underage women. Their paradigm is that a lot of this is Russiagate style hysteria/moral panic, fueled both by conspiracy theorists of all stripes and by various political and media actors who are cynically pumping up the story to drive clicks and gain electoral advantage,Claude AI comes in somewhere in the middle, telling me that “the evidence strongly supports that Epstein … Epstein deliberately and systematically sought out minors. The infrastructure he built—the recruitment network, the payments, the documentation—wasn't consistent with someone who simply preferred young-looking women and occasionally made mistakes. It was consistent with someone whose preference was specifically for adolescent girls.”It also says that when it comes to the question of other men being involved, it's murky: “The names that circulate publicly—Clinton, Trump, Dershowitz, various billionaires—appear in flight logs or visitor records, but presence at Epstein's properties doesn't establish participation in abuse. Epstein cultivated legitimacy by surrounding himself with prominent people, many of whom may have had no idea what else was happening.”I say all this not to offer my own two cents but just to articulate the opposite, which is that I have no clue. The evidence is too vast, and my time too limited, to feel as though I can have a direct interpretation of the evidence, and many of the people to whom I typically turn for a relatively sober account of reality, against conspiracy theory, or moderately conspiratorial. And then the people like Tracey and Taibbi complicate things too, because although their extreme skepticism of official narratives is so often distortionary, and therefore not a good guide to what's actually going on, in some cases it can provide a very useful signal for when we should be skeptical of official narratives,They were more right than wrong about Russiagate, or at least right about certain things that most people got wrong. So is this Russiagate all over again, and if so, what the hell does that mean, because as I ponder the comparison I realize I still don't even know what to make of Russiagate?I don't know. It was always the case that the gatekeepers were wrong about some big things, but it used to be the case that we just swallowed their narratives anyway, because we weren't exposed to alternatives. Now we're living in this fractured informational environment where we're so much more acutely aware of the fragility of the conventional narratives, and so much more exposed to alternatives, but our brains haven't gotten bigger in proportion in order to sift through the data more efficiently and effectively.I spend a lot of time thinking and reading about these things, and have a lot of faith in my capacity to perceive what's going on most of the time with some accuracy, but here I'm just adrift, and I wonder if in my adriftness I'm experiencing firsthand something like what most people who don't think, read, and write about this stuff as much as I do experience when confronting the political world, and what role this plays in pushing them into self contained bubbles or tribes that replicate, in a way, the single narrative cognitive environment we all had back in the days of the gatekeepers. So there's still a conventional narrative that we have to protect us from too much cognitive dizziness, it's just that there are many of them at once.Anyway, that's my two cents on Epstein. I'll keep trying to get a handle on it, but I won't have any guests on to talk about it because who needs another podcast about the Epstein files.Hope you enjoy my conversation with Ash.Peace. The Torah in Parashat Vaera traces the lineage of Moshe Rabbenu, informing us that he was son of Amram and Yochebed. Amram was a grandson of Yakaob Abinu's third son, Levi – specifically, he was the son of Levi's son, Kehat. Astonishingly, the Torah relates, Yochebed was Amram's aunt – she was the daughter of Levi, the sister of Kehat. The commentaries explain that Yochebed and Kehat had different mothers, and thus they were half-siblings. As such, the marriage between Amram and Yochebed was not forbidden by the Noachide laws, which apply to all mankind. These laws forbid marrying one's parent's full sister, but not a parent's half-sister. This union would, however, be proscribed by the Torah given to Beneh Yisrael. It turns out, then, that Moshe – the greatest leader and prophet in our nation's history, who brought us the Torah – was the product of a marriage that Torah law forbids. Moshe is not the only great leader with less-than-pristine origins. The Davidic line, which began with David and Shlomo and will – we pray very soon – culminate with Mashiah, also has its origins in problematic relationships. David descended from Peretz – the product of the relationship between Yehuda and his daughter-in-law, Tamar. David's great-grandmother was Rut, a convert from the nation of Moab, and although it was ultimately concluded that this marriage was permissible, there was considerable controversy as to whether a man may marry a woman from Moab. And the founder of the nation of Moab, Rut's ancestor, was conceived when Lot's daughter gave her father wine and had a relationship with him, thinking they this was needed in order to maintain the earth's population. Rav Menahem Recanti (Italy, 1223-1290) offers an explanation for this phenomenon, for why the great leaders emerged from less-than-ideal origins. The Satan, he writes, is always seeking to sabotage the rise of these righteous figures, to block these holy souls from descending into the world. Moshe brought us the Torah, which is the "antidote" to the Yeser Ha'ra (evil inclination), the greatest weapon we have in our struggle to overcome the Satan's efforts to lure us away from the service of G-d. And the Gemara teaches that when Mashiah arrives, he will destroy the Satan so it could no longer hurt the Jewish People. Therefore, the Satan will do everything in its power to obstruct the transmission of Torah, and to prevent the arrival of Mashiah. For this reason, Hashem arranged that Moshe and David would be produced from unions that the Satan would never bother to disrupt. The Satan welcomes problematic relationships such as those of Lot and his daughters, Yehuda and Tamar, and Amram and Yochebed. He would never try to interfere with them, because this is precisely what he wants – relationships that are from the Torah's ideal marriage. Moshe and David needed to be produced this way for the purpose of avoiding the Satan's interference. This reminds us never to be discouraged by the challenges that we face in the pursuit of greatness. Whenever we try to achieve something significant, we are going to confront obstacles. Whether it's in the process of finding a spouse and raising a family, the process of learning Torah and spiritual growth, starting a new organization or project – the Satan is always going to try to interfere. Rather than be surprised and discouraged by the problems that arise, we should expect them, stay strong, and proceed with confidence, trusting that Hashem is always helping us in our efforts to defeat the Satan and achieve to the very best of our ability.

A story about choosing what others avoid—and creating competitive advantage no one can copy. This episode is for sales-led SaaS founders wondering why their AI product investments are not creating the competitive edge they expected. Most SaaS companies race to add AI features and wonder why nothing changes.Tal Peretz, CEO of Onfire, took the opposite path. Before writing a single line of code, he interviewed 275 revenue leaders. Then he spent months building a proprietary data layer from the public web—Reddit, Stack Overflow, Discord—tracking 50 million engineers. Only after that foundation was solid did he add AI on top.The result: customers generating 4x more pipeline with the same headcount, $50 million in closed deals since beta launch, and a $20 million funding round. And this inspired me to invite Tal to my podcast. We explore how mastering curiosity—reading signals competitors ignore—creates competitive moats that compound over time. Tal shares how 275 customer interviews revealed one critical pattern everyone else missed, and why choosing the hardest buyers simplified everything else. You'll discover why he spent months building invisible infrastructure before writing features, and how that decision alone separated Onfire from hundreds of AI tools fighting for attention. We also zoom in on three of the 10 traits that define remarkable software companies:Master the art of curiosityAim to be different, not just betterSell the idea, not the productTal's journey proves that remarkable companies don't chase the obvious path—they build the hard thing first, creating advantages no competitor can copy. Here's one of Tal's quotes that captures his contrarian thesis:"AI basically makes sales much harder, not easier, because the noise-to-ratio right now goes up. When we started the company, we said the main advantage is to find the needle in the haystack in your context. Building what we call our Knowledge Graph—this is probably the main IP of the company."By listening to this episode, you'll learn:Why building infrastructure before features creates advantages competitors cannot replicateWhat customer discovery reveals when you interview hundreds before building anythingWhy focusing on the hardest segment often creates easier sales than targeting everyoneWhy adding intelligence to strong foundations beats bolting features onto weak dataFor more information about the guest from this week:Guest: Tal Peretz, Co-founder and CEO at Onfire Website: onfire.ai

Episode 202: BPA OverviewWritten by Cameron Carlisle, MSIV, Ross University School of Medicine. Comments by Hector Arreaza, MD.You are listening to Rio Bravo qWeek Podcast, your weekly dose of knowledge brought to you by the Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Program from Bakersfield, California, a UCLA-affiliated program sponsored by Clinica Sierra Vista, Let Us Be Your Healthcare Home. This podcast was created for educational purposes only. Visit your primary care provider for additional medical advice._____________________Arr: Welcome to another episode of Rio Bravo qWeek. My name is Hector Arreaza, I'm an associate program director and faculty in the Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Program. Today my co-host is Cameron Carlisle, who is a 4th-year medical student finishing his last rotation of med school. Welcome, Cameron, please introduce yourself.Arreaza: What are we talking about today, Cameron?Cam: Dr. Arreaza, did you know you're probably carrying around a chemical in your body that mimics estrogen? In fact, a 2004 CDC study found over 92% of Americans had detectable levels of Bisphenol A (BPA) in their urine. Today's topic is BPA.BPA is everywhere: receipts, water bottles, canned foods, baby bottles, and even our dental fillings. It's one of the most ubiquitous endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which interferes with the body's hormone systems. That's why today's episode is about making the invisible visible. Our goals for today's podcast:Break down what BPA isShow how it affects the human bodyExplain how you and your patients can limit exposureEmpower both clinicians and the public with real, practical informationArreaza: Thanks for clarifying BPA today. It seems like we always have to learn about a new carcinogen or toxic substance that we are exposed to. I remember when I was a child, Yellow #5 became very concerning for the general public but it is still being used in our foods. So, it's good you are talking about this. What Is BPA?Cam: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial chemical used since the 1950s, primarily in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. It makes plastic clear, and is often found in:Water bottlesCanned food liningsBaby bottles (pre-2012)Takeout containersCash register receiptsDental sealantsArreaza: So, I've seen the “BPA-free” labels many times, and today I'm glad you are going to shed some light about it.Cam: What's alarming is that BPA leaches out of these products, especially when exposed to heat, acidity, or repeated use. A Harvard study found that people who drank from plastic bottles for just one week had a 69% increase in urinary BPA levels (Carwile & Michels, 2009).Arreaza: That's a lot of people 69%. Section 3: What happens when BPA gets into our body? How BPA Works in the BodyCam: BPA is classified as an endocrine disruptor, meaning it can bind to estrogen receptors and mimic or block natural hormone functions. It affects:Reproductive systems (both male and female)NeurodevelopmentThyroid signalingPancreatic β-cell functionMetabolism and fat storageEven low-dose exposure can disrupt cellular function. BPA acts as a xenoestrogen (foreign estrogen) and has been shown to alter DNA methylation, leading to epigenetic changes that persist across generations (Manikkam et al., 2013).Arreaza: So, BPA can cause epigenetic changes that can be inherited. BPA can persist for generations in your offspring.BPA's Health Impacts – What the Research SaysHere's where it gets serious. Let's go system-by-system:1. Reproductive HealthFemales: Linked to PCOS, infertility, and early puberty (Peretz et al., 2014).Males: Reduced sperm count and motility; altered testosterone levels.2. Pregnancy and Birth OutcomesIncreased risk of preterm birth, gestational diabetes, and low birth weight (Snijder et al., 2013).Studies show BPA crosses the placenta, directly affecting the fetus.3. Neurological DevelopmentAssociated with ADHD, anxiety, and impaired executive function in children exposed in utero (Mustieles et al., 2015).4. Metabolism and DiabetesBPA exposure is linked to insulin resistance, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, even at low doses (Lang et al., 2008).5. CancerAnimal and human data link BPA to increased risk of breast and prostate cancer via estrogenic mechanisms.6. MortalityA 2020 JAMA study found individuals with higher BPA levels had a 49% increased risk of all-cause mortality compared to those with lower levels (Gao et al., 2020).Arreaza: You are scaring me. I wonder what my BPA level is in my blood. Actually, BPA can be detected in urine. This is the most common approach for population-level biomonitoring, because BPA and its metabolites are mostly excreted in urine. Studies have found that BPA is present in most people, even up to 85–99% in large cohorts. Cam: That's literally everyone. Sources of BPA ExposureLet's talk about things we use every day:Thermal receipts (like from Target or Starbucks): BPA can transfer onto your skin and be absorbed, especially if your hands are wet or lotioned.Canned soups: One study showed that eating canned soup daily for five days led to a 1000% increased urinary BPA levels (Carwile et al., 2011).Plastic water bottles left in the car on hot days or plastic food trays for microwaving = chemical leaching.Baby bottles and pacifiers (pre-2012): primary concern for newborns.Arreaza: So, Cameron, you were exposed to BPA as a baby.Cam: Here's the jaw-dropper: We ingest up to 5 grams of plastic per week, roughly the weight of a credit card (WWF, 2019; University of Newcastle). This includes microplastics like BPA, which enter through food, water, and air.Arreaza: So, it translates into 40 lbs of plastic in a lifetime, by age 70. What can we do as family physicians?Family Medicine and Preventive CareAs family physicians, we are at the frontlines of prevention. Our role includes:Anticipatory guidance: during prenatal visits, well-child visits, and chronic disease managementScreening opportunities: ask about storage habits, microwave use, and receipt handlingEnvironmental health counseling: AAFP recommends addressing endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) when relevant to a patient's concerns. It's not just about treating diabetes or obesity. It's about recognizing that environmental exposure may be a root cause.Arreaza: Prevention is my favorite topic!Cam: One helpful clinical practice:Arreaza: What else can we do to reduce BPA exposure?Practical Steps to Reduce BPAHere's what patients and doctors alike can do today:Switch to BPA-free products, but be careful, as replacements like BPS or BPF may also be harmful (Rochester & Bolden, 2015).Avoid microwaving or dishwashing plastic containers.Use digital receipts.Filter tap water using carbon filters, which can reduce microparticle ingestion.Choose fresh produce over canned goods when possible. Also, wash your hands after handling receipts, especially before eating or touching your face.Arreaza: What is our government doing to protect us?Public Health and Policy UpdatesRegulations are slowly catching up:The FDA banned BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups in 2012.The European Union has stricter limits, and France banned BPA in all food packaging in 2015.California's Proposition 65 requires BPA warning labels.Arreaza: Proposition 65, passed by direct voter initiative in 1986, “WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.”Arreaza: The FDA is planning to phase out petroleum-based food dyes (certified color additives) from the American food supply – marking a significant milestone in the efforts to protect the public. Cam: Many products still contain BPA analogs (BPS, BPF), which are not yet well-regulated.This is where clinician advocacy matters, where we can guide public opinion and support legislative change.Arreaza: So, millions of pounds of toxic substances are produced by many industries in the US. As physicians, we have to stay informed and update our patients.Cameron: How can we wrap up this episode? Conclusion and TakeawaysBPA is a hormone disruptor hiding in plain sight.People are exposed to BPA every day, but small lifestyle changes can dramatically reduce it.Family medicine has a role in education, prevention, and advocacy.Let's all be part of the solution for our health and future generations. Stanley (tumblers) are not sponsoring this episode, and we did not receive any money from them. Arreaza: That's it for today's episode of Rio Bravo qWeek. If you enjoyed this episode, share it with a colleague or medical student who may need to know about BPA. I'm Dr. Arreaza, signing off.Cameron: Hopefully, in the future I will talk to you about more endocrine disrupting chemicals. Welcome to the Always Bayern Chelsea show. Football season is well underway now and the 120th episode is a complete recap of the summer 2025 transfer window. Danny and Jim break down the incomings, outgoings, and more as well as rate the entire window for both Chelsea Football Club and Bayern Munich. Buckle up because this was one of the most crazy windows in recent memory. And don't worry YES we will be streaming the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Chelsea. As always Chelsea did A LOT of business. Key incomings for Enzo Maresca included. Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao, Buonanotte, Dario Essugo, Andrey Santos, Jorrel Hato, Paez, Penders, and Sarr. Outgoings were Nico Jackson, Broja, Felix, Madueke, Christo, Ugochukwu, Mathis Amougou. Carney, KDH, Matos, Chilwell, Gilchrist, Humphreys, Veiga, Beach, Bergstrom, Bettinelli, Kepa, and Petrovic while players loaned out including partner club Strasburg were Paez, Penders, Sarr, Anselmino, Castledine, Kellyman, Samuels-Smith, Wiley, and Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich of course. Chelsea netted about 5 million euros in profit this window. Pretty impressive business. Bayern Munich's transfer window was less desirable. The club notably struck out on their main transfer target dating back many years Florian Wirtz, other key misses were Nico Williams, Bradley Barcola, and sadly many more. The lack of alignment between the supervisory board, sporting board, and even coaching staff made this a difficult window for Vincent Kompany and the Bavarians. Luckily there were some key incomings including Diaz, Tah, and Bischof. With Nicolas Jackson joining on loan from Chelsea. Sadly Bayern Munich lost key players who are already missed by the club, some of which left on a free transfer including Sane, Dier, and Thomas Muller. Other outgoings were Tel, Coman, Wanner, Aznou, Kratzig, and Vidovic. Players that left on loan were Palhinha, Kusi-Asare, Zaragoza, Peretz, Ibrahimovic, Zvonarek, and Buchmann. It's yet to be seen if this window will improve the squad for the long run but Bayern did net roughly 10 millions euros in addition to massive savings in the wage depart. He arrived at Be'er-Sheva and offered sacrifices to the G_d of his father Yitz'chak. 2 In a vision at night G_d called to Isra'el, "Ya`akov! Ya`akov!" He answered, "Here I am." 3 He said, "I am G_d, the G_d of your father. Don't be afraid to go down to Egypt. It is there that I will make you into a great nation. 4 Not only will I go down with you to Egypt; but I will also bring you back here again, after Yosef has closed your eyes."Genesis 46:5 So Ya`akov left Be'er-Sheva; the sons of Isra'el brought Ya`akov their father, their little ones and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to carry them. 6 They took their cattle and their possessions which they had acquired in the land of Kena`an and arrived in Egypt, Ya`akov and all his descendants with him — 7 his sons, grandsons, daughters, granddaughters and all his descendants he brought with him into Egypt.Genesis 46:8 These are the names of Isra'el's children who came into Egypt, Ya`akov and his sons: Re'uven Ya`akov's firstborn; 9 and the sons of Re'uven — Hanokh, Pallu, Hetzron and Karmi. 10 The sons of Shim`on: Y'mu'el, Yamin, Ohad, Yakhin, Tzochar and Sha'ul the son of a Kena`ani woman. 11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, K'hat and M'rari.Genesis 46:12 The sons of Y'hudah: `Er, Onan, Shelah, Peretz and Zerach; but `Er and Onan died in the land of Kena`an. The sons of Peretz were Hetzron and Hamul. 13 The sons of Yissakhar: Tola, Puvah, Yov and Shimron. 14 The sons of Z'vulun: Sered, Elon and Yachle'el. 15 These were the children of Le'ah whom she bore to Ya`akov in Paddan-Aram, with his daughter Dinah. In sum, his sons and daughters numbered thirty-three. Genesis 46:16 The sons of Gad: Tzifyon, Haggi, Shuni, Etzbon, `Eri, Arodi and Ar'eli. 17 The children of Asher: Yimnah, Yishvah, Yishvi, B'ri`ah, and their sister Serach. The sons of B'ri`ah were Hever and Malki'el. 18 These were the children of Zilpah, whom Lavan gave to Le'ah his daughter; she bore them to Ya`akov — sixteen people. Genesis 46:19 The sons of Rachel Ya`akov's wife: Yosef and Binyamin. 20 To Yosef in the land of Egypt were born M'nasheh and Efrayim, whom Osnat the daughter of Poti-Fera priest of On bore to him. 21 The sons of Binyamin: Bela, Bekher, Ashbel, Gera, Na`aman, Echi, Rosh, Mupim, Hupim and Ard. 22 These were the children of Rachel who were born to Ya`akov — in sum, fourteen people.Genesis 46:23 The sons of Dan: Hushim. 24 The sons of Naftali: Yachtze'el, Guni, Yetzer and Shillem. 25 These were the sons of Bilhah, whom Lavan gave to Rachel his daughter; she bore them to Ya`akov — in sum, seven people.Genesis 46:26 All the people belonging to Ya`akov coming into Egypt, his direct descendants (not counting Ya`akov's sons' wives), totaled sixty-six. 27 The sons of Yosef, born to him in Egypt, were two in number. Thus all the people in Ya`akov's family who entered Egypt numbered seventy.Genesis 46:28 Ya`akov sent Y'hudah ahead of him to Yosef, so that the latter might guide him on the road to Goshen; thus they arrived in the land of Goshen. 29 Yosef prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet Isra'el his father. He presented himself to him, embraced him and wept on his neck for a long time. 30 Then Isra'el said to Yosef, "Now I can die, because I have seen your face and seen that you are still alive."Genesis 46:31 Yosef said to his brothers and his father's family, "I'm going up to tell Pharaoh. I'll say to him, `My brothers and my father's family, who were in the land of Kena`an, have come to me. 32 The men are shepherds and keepers of livestock; they have brought their flocks, their herds and all their possessions.' 33 Now when Pharaoh summons you and asks, `What is your occupation?' 34 tell him, `Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth until now, both we and our ancestors.' This will ensure that you will live in the land of Goshen — for any shepherd is abhorrent to the Egyptians."Credit to:https://unsplash.com/photos/pathway-between-trees-74TufExdP3Yhttps://unsplash.com/photos/black-and-white-arrow-sign-Vckq-heaypghttps://unsplash.com/photos/gray-wall-paint-taO2fC7sxDU

So Tamar went and lived at home with her father. 12 In due time, Shua's daughter, the wife of Y'hudah, died. After Y'hudah had been comforted, he went up to be with his sheep-shearers in Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the `Adulami. 13 Tamar was told, "Your father-in-law has gone up to Timnah to shear his sheep." 14 So she took off her widow's clothes, completely covered her face with her veil, and sat at the entrance to `Einayim, which is on the way to Timnah. For she saw that Shelah had grown up, but she still was not being given to him as his wife.Genesis 38:15 When Y'hudah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, because she had covered her face. 16 So he went over to her where she was sitting and said, not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, "Come, let me sleep with you." She answered, "What will you pay to sleep with me?" 17 He said, "I will send you a kid from the flock of goats." She said, "Will you also give me something as a guarantee until you send it" 18 He answered, "What should I give you as a guarantee?" She said, "Your seal, with its cord, and the staff you're carrying in your hand." So he gave them to her, then went and slept with her; and she conceived by him. 19 She got up and went away, took off her veil and put on her widow's clothes.Genesis 38:20 Y'hudah sent the kid with his friend the `Adulami to receive the guarantee items back from the woman, but he couldn't find her. 21 He asked the people near where she had been, "Where is the prostitute who was on the road at `Einayim?" But they answered, "There hasn't been any prostitute here." 22 So he returned to Y'hudah and said, "I couldn't find her; also the people there said, `There hasn't been any prostitute here.'" 23 Y'hudah said, "All right, let her keep the things, so that we won't be publicly shamed. I sent the kid, but you didn't find her."Genesis 38:24 About three months later Y'hudah was told, "Tamar your daughter-in-law has been acting like a whore; moreover, she is pregnant as a result of her prostitution." Y'hudah said, "Bring her out, and let her be burned alive!" 25 When she was brought out, she sent this message to her father-in-law: "I am pregnant by the man to whom these things belong. Determine, I beg you, whose these are — the signet, the cords and the staff." 26 Then Y'hudah acknowledged owning them. He said, "She is more righteous than I, because I didn't let her become the wife of my son Shelah." And he never slept with her again.Genesis 38:27 When she went into labor, it became evident that she was going to have twins. 28 As she was in labor, one of them put out his hand; and the midwife took his hand and tied a scarlet thread on it, saying, "This one came out first." 29 But then he withdrew his hand, and his brother came out; so she said, "How did you manage to break out first?" Therefore he was named Peretz [breaking out]. 30 Then out came his brother, with the scarlet thread on his hand, and he was given the name Zerach [scarlet].Did Onan die because he did not want to have children?Levirate-marriage is a strange custom for us today.  It required one brother to marry the wife of a brother who died and who did not have a son. Our question is about Onan who did not want this responsibility. The custom of levirate-marriage was practiced throughout the Old Testament (Genesis 38:6-10; Ruth 4:10) and even into Christ's time (Matthew 22:24). It is clear this was a divine principle during the time of the book of Genesis, and it was finally written down as part of the Mosaic Law,https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy%2025%3A5-10&version=CJBDeuteronomy 25:5-105 "If brothers live together, and one of them dies childless, his widow is not to marry someone unrelated to him; her husband's brother is to go to her and perform the duty of a brother-in-law by marrying her. 6 The first child she bears will succeed to the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be eliminated from Isra'el. 7 If the man does not wish to marry his brother's widow, then his brother's widow is to go up to the gate, to the leaders, and say, `My brother-in-law refuses to raise up for his brother a name in Isra'el; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother for me.' 8 The leaders of his town are to summon him and speak to him. If, on appearing before them, he continues to say, `I don't want to marry her,' 9 then his brother's widow is to approach him in the presence of the leaders, pull his sandal off his foot, spit in his face and say, `This is what is done to the man who refuses to build up his brother's family.' 10 From that time on, his family is to be known in Isra'el as `the family of the man who had his sandal pulled off.'Credits:https://unsplash.com/@xangriffin - Person Praisinghttps://unsplash.com/@danist07 - Clouds
