Ostatnio ktoś mnie poprosił o polecenie książki pokazującej, że możemy się lubić, choć nie zawsze muszą nam się podobać te same rzeczy. Właśnie tego tematu dotyczy książka Leonia z Krainy Naj. Jej autorką jest Anita Kałużyńska, a ilustracje przygotowała Monika Urbaniak. Leonia ma trzy latka i jest małą lwicą mieszkającą w Krainie Naj. Bardzo lubi bawić się ze swoim kuzynem Stefanem, małym leopardem.To książka już dla trzylatków pod patronatem Aktywnego Czytania. Ucieszy przedszkolaki, bo zachęca do rozmów o tym, że różnice są czymś ciekawym do odkrycia, a narzucanie własnego zdania innym niekoniecznie jest dobrym pomysłem. Do tego pokazuje dzieciom, że można nie zgadzać się na zabawę, na którą nie mamy ochoty, to w porządku. I zachęca do próbowania nowych aktywności. Kuzyn Stefan nie ma ochoty na żadną zabawę proponowaną przez Leonię. Jednak po kilku próbach dogadują się bez kłótni. Czasem zamiast narzucać tysiąc swoich na pewno świetnych pomysłów, wystarczy się zatrzymać, wziąć głęboki oddech i zapytać: czego potrzebujesz? Oczywiście, za takim pytaniem musi iść gotowość do tego, by bawić się w to, co inne dziecko zaproponuje. W przypadku Leonii tak się właśnie stało. Okazało się, że Stefan ma dzisiaj ochotę budować z klocków.Potem wielkie naleśnikowe zdziwienie. Oboje lubią naleśniki, ale Leon składa je zupełnie inaczej niż kuzynka. W pierwszej chwili może się to wydawać dziwne. Jak to – ktoś nie je naleśników tak jak my? Jednak po chwili zastanowienia szybko się okazuje – zwłaszcza gdy ma się obok mądrego dorosłego wspierającego w takich rozmowach – że te różnice są po prostu ciekawe. Do tego jeszcze kolejna (deszczowa) aktywność, an którą tym razem Leonia nie ma wielkie ochoty. Daje się jednak namówić, by spróbować i sprawdzić, czy jej się spodoba. Bardzo jej się podoba! MądraLeonia dochodzi przy okazji do wniosku, że nowe doświadczenia często mają szansę stać się ulubionymi aktywnościami. I już mamy kolejny temat gotowy do rozwinięcia w codziennych sytuacjach z dziećmi! Dr. Phillip Chen is the head Physical Therapist at Fyzical Fort Lee, NJ. Phillip was born and raised in the rainy city of Seattle, WA. He graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor's in Kinesiology. He then continued his education at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, now known as Saint Joseph University, graduating with honors with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. During his time at University of the Sciences, he was awarded the William B. Inverso, Jr. award for his excellence in Physical Therapy Research. In addition to his excellence in clinical practice, Phillip is passionate about providing the latest evidence-based practice and research. He presented at the International Vestibular Rehabilitation Conference 2022 in Minneapolis, MN, where his team won 1st place for best research poster. The team is publishing their work on “Motor Learning of the Video HIT by Novice and Experienced VPT” under the direction of Dr. Anne Galgon, a well-known expert in vestibular rehabilitation. RACHEL RUBIN LADUTKE (Playwright) has written full-length plays, 2 musicals, and numerous short pieces, many of which have been excerpted in monologue and scene anthologies. Last winter, THE WICKHAM WAY was selected for inclusion in the inaugural New Works VIrtual Festival, a series of plays recorded by prominent actors and aired as a benefit for The Actors' Fund. Last March THE UNDERSTANDING, her play about the legacy of Argentina's Dirty War, was streamed as a successful fundraiser for the North NJ chapter of Amnesty International. Her newest full-length play, RICHMOND UNDERGROUND is about a ring of Union spies operating in the heart of the Confederacy. Rachel holds an M.A. in Theater from Hunter College. She is a proud member of New Play Exchange, Playwright's Center, The Dramatists' Guild and the International Centre for Women Playwrights. Education is the Industry we are focusing on this month in our monthly Roundtable series. Join a panel of members from the Fort Lee Regional Chamber currently doing business in this industry, for an in-depth discussion of the challenges and opportunities created by Covid and what these educators are doing to move forward successfully. The conversation this month will cover these issues: In Education, you had to be concerned about the teachers and the students – two different groups with different needs and concerns. Please share with us the specific challenges you experienced, and how you dealt with them. For those of you that got involved with virtual learning, is that something you will consider using post-covid for some classes – since you can reach a world-wide audience that way? For small businesses there have been state and federal programs that were developed to help financially. Did teachers get paid when the schools were closed? How did you pay for all the changes that had to be made to keep everyone distanced and safe and in some cases, virtual? Have these changes drained financial resources? What is your strategy for the new school semesters starting after the summer? Are they different than 2020? Are they similar to pre-Covid? Are teachers required to be vaccinated? What would you like to say to parents in the audience, about precautions that have and will be taken? Do you feel good about the way your school(s) handled this situation? Hindsight is always 20/20. Looking back and knowing what you know now, what, if anything would you have done differently? Meanwhile, archivists at Rutgers University asked people who participated in the march to donate their signs and posters for future scholars to study, The Record writes. GOVERNOR ORDERS AUDIT OF TAX-INCENTIVE PROGRAMS Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order Friday calling on the Office of the State Comptroller to conduct full-scale performance reviews of tax-incentive programs to determine their effectiveness in bringing jobs and economic growth to the state, NJ Spotlight reports. Murphy’s order requires reviews of two programs administered by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority over the eight years of Gov. Chris Christie’s tenure. LEONIA BANS NON-RESIDENT DRIVERS DURING RUSH HOURS Starting today, out-of-towners who drive on the streets of Leonia between 6 and 10 a.m. or 4 and 9 p.m. will be subject to $200 fines, WCBS reports. The borough passed an ordinance banning non-resident drivers last month in an effort to keep commuters from using its streets as shortcuts. Navigation apps, like Waze and Google Maps, have caused huge traffic tie-ups in the community. BILLS VETOED BY CHRISTIE MAY GET SECOND LOOK UNDER MURPHY NJ.com lists 11 pieces of legislation vetoed in Gov. Chris Christie’s tenure that may be revived by the Legislature now that Gov. Phil Murphy has taken office. Among the measures are the expansion of paid family leave, requirements that firearms retailers stock “smart guns” and Planned Parenthood funding. ‘DREAMERS’ WONDERING HOW TO APPROACH DACA UNCERTAINTY Undocumented immigrants who were brought to New Jersey as children have been struggling to sort out what actions they should take given the uncertainty surrounding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, The Record writes. Some are submitting renewal applications early in case the window for filing is narrow, but others fear that their applications will be rejected if they file too soon. If they make the wrong choice, they could find themselves being deported.

The Shoemaker. January 8th, 1975. Leonia, New Jersey. A man and his young son posed as salesmen to gain entrance to a New Jersey home. They attacked the people inside. One of them, a woman who lived nearby, was taken to the basement and her throat was slit. This was the last in a series of attacks by a man who believed that he was instructed to do these things. The ultimate goal; the deaths of three billion people. With all killers a question seems to come up. Was it nature or nurture? In Joseph Kallinger's case, the answer seems to be nurture. His abusive and isolated upbringing by Stephen and Anna Kallinger may have triggered paranoid schizophrenia in a young boy who would go on to have dark fantasies that involved women and knives.

Y finalmente, mi querida Leonia, que había vuelto de la Visitación hacía algunos meses, me colmaba como nadie de besos y caricias....
CAPÍTULO TERCERO. AÑOS DOLOROSOS 1881 - 1883. Alumna en la Abadía. Tenía yo ocho años y medio cuando Leonia salió del internado y yo ocupé su lugar en la Abadía. He oído decir muchas veces que el tiempo pasado en el internado es el mejor y el más feliz de la vida. Para mí no lo fue. Los cinco años que pasé en él fueron los más tristes de toda mi vida. Si no hubiera tenido a mi lado a mi querida Celina, no habría aguantado allí ni un mes sin caer enferma... La pobre florecita había sido acostumbrada a hundir sus frágiles raíces en una tierra selecta, hecha expresamente para ella. Por eso se le hizo muy duro verse en medio de flores de toda especie, que tenían a menudo raíces muy poco delicadas, y obligada a encontrar en una tierra ordinaria la savia que necesitaba para vivir... Tú me habías educado tan bien, Madre querida, que cuando llegué al internado era la más adelantada de las niñas de mi edad. Me pusieron en [22vº] una clase en la que todas las alumnas eran mayores que yo. Una de ellas, de 13 a 14 años de edad, era poco inteligente, pero sabía imponerse a las alumnas, e incluso a las profesoras. Al verme tan joven, casi siempre la primera de la clase y querida por todas las religiosas, se ve que sintió envidia -muy comprensible en una pensionista- y me hizo pagar de mil maneras mis pequeños éxitos... Dado mi natural tímido y delicado, no sabía defenderme, y me contentaba con sufrir en silencio, sin quejarme ni siquiera a ti de lo que sufría. Pero no tenía la suficiente virtud para sobreponerme a esas miserias de la vida y mi pobre corazoncito sufría mucho...
