Activists are celebrating billions in new spending to build transmission lines for renewable energy and to connect the U.S. power grids to each other (including, for the first time, the Texas grid). This spending spree is billed as a way of moving renewable energy across regions to cure the problem of wind and solar energy being complete no-shows at certain places and times. Is the smart way to solve our self-made energy shortages? The smartest people in the space say “No.” Dr. Bennett explains. He is Policy Director at Life:Powered, an initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation to raise America's energy IQ, and holds a Ph.D in Materials Science. The folks from the Life:Powered initiative at the Texas Public Policy Foundation leveraged public disclosure rules to find out how state pension plans are voting at the annual meetings of the companies they own shares in. The results were pretty shocking. From 2019 to 2023, many red states, some with politicians who have publicly attacked ESG investing, are voting to the left of BlackRock. In Ep. 87, Brent Bennett, policy director of Life:Powered, joined Jerry to talk about this important new research, and why states which don't want to continue to vote with their shares for ESG ideology and "energy discrimination" don't need to any longer. Here's the report, see if your state is on it and if it is, send it to your legislator, Treasurer and state Auditor. On this Salcedo Storm Podcast:Brent Bennett is the policy director for Life:Powered, an initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation to raise America's energy IQ. Brent is responsible for the team's many policy initiatives, from ending pernicious federal energy subsidies to reforming the Texas electricity market.
In his second appearance on the podcast (the first was in February 2022,) Brent Bennett, policy director for Life:Powered, an initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, talks about his recent report on electric vehicles and the challenges facing the Texas electric grid, three years after Winter Storm Uri. Bennett explains why climate activists have an almost religious attachment to EVs, why wind and solar are “holy fuels,” the problems with batteries, and why policymakers should think of electricity not as a commodity, but a service. (Recorded January 30, 2024.)
The Heartland Institute's Jim Lakely, Chris Talgo, Linnea Lueken, and special guest Jason Isaac of the Texas Public Policy Foundation present episode 422 of The In the Tank podcast. The Biden administration is continuing to mandate the electrification of everything while at the same time pulling offline the reliable and affordable power generation and transmission that would make it remotely possible. And this is a global delusion, not just a growing problem in the United States. Energy prices are skyrocketing and the “green energy” industry is now demanding even more government handouts – and permission to hike prices even more – to keep the scam going. But are we seeing signs that a rapid collapse of the scam is near? Investments in “alternative energy” companies took off in 2020, but all those gains are now gone. General Electric announced that it will post $1 billion in losses in its wind division. The S&P Global Clean Energy Index is down more than 30 percent this year and still dropping. Siemens, one of the premier German manufacturers of wind turbines, saw its stock price crash by nearly 40 percent in one day last week and now wants a 15-billion-euros handout from the German government. It also appears that “Big Oil” is giving up on pretending to be a part of the “green energy” future and is consolidating to produce even more oil and gas in the future. And in signs that the EV bubble is collapsing, Ford announced that it lost $1.3 billion in its EV division during the third quarter of 2023 – which translates into a loss of $62,016 for each of the 20,962 EVs it sold during the period. The CEO of Mercedes Benz said of the glut of EVs on the market that the public doesn't want: “I can hardly imagine the current status quo is fully sustainable for everybody.” Even Elon Musk is warning that demand is just not there for this massive, government-driven push for EVs. Joining us to talk about all this is Jason Isaac, senior fellow of Life:Powered, a national initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation and co-author of the brand new report: “Overcharged Expectations: Unmasking the True Cost of Electric Vehicles.” With government so invested with OUR MONEY in these schemes, is it inevitable that a massive financial bailout for these boondoggles is coming? Are electric vehicles (EVs) less expensive than their gas-powered counterparts? Are they destined to bethe future once the government mandates kick in? The simple answer: no. According to “Overcharged Expectations: Unmasking the True Costs of Electric Vehicles,” federal and state governments are driving the auto industry “off an economic cliff.” Brent Bennett – the Life:Powered policy director at the Texas Public Policy Foundation – explains his findings on EVs and their true costs. Can carbon capture technology moot the climate debate? Jacki is joined by Jason Isaac, Director of Life:Powered, a national initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, who shares why his group is opposed to carbon capture technology. Though it focuses on home-produced American energy (coal and natural gas), Isaac claims that requiring carbon capture would force many of the country's most reliable energy producers out of business at a time when our fragile electric grid needs them the most. Also, he explains why it would not impact the climate meaningfully. - - - - - James O'Keefe released an explosive undercover video featuring an employee of the world's largest money manager that champions ESG (financing contingent upon wokeness scores for corporations or investments). Supposedly, ESG exists to make the world a better place through emphasizing Environmental, Social Justice, and ethical Governance standards. What were the confessions from this employee of the money manager? (1) Banks rule the world; (2) war is good for business (“we don't want the conflict to end”); and (3) a U.S. Senator can be bought for the bottom basement low price of only $10,000.00. Suddenly, the news of BlackRock as a contender for a ½ trillion-dollar Ukraine rebuilding deal looks very different. Jacki gives her take.

For the one-year anniversary of the Texas Blackouts, our second guest this week is Brent Bennett, the policy director for Life:Powered, an initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. In this episode, Bennett explains why the ERCOT market is “broken,” how it is being distorted by federal subsidies for wind and solar, why there's no Moore's law for batteries, and why there is an “oversupply of capital” being directed toward alternative energy sources.
Former Rep. Jason Isaac joins David Webb to discuss BlackRock CEO — Larry Fink's letter about Texas SB13, that pushes back against woke financial institutions and banks that discriminate against fossil fuels.
The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: The Biden Administration has all the time in the world to find new ways to clamp down on the freedom of Americans over a virus but is uninterested in stopping the flood of millions across our border. We remain at record highs when it comes to illegal aliens crossing the border so where is the concern about the virus entering the country there? There is none and it's a disconnect most Americans can plainly see.Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Jason Isaac of the Life:Powered talks about the misdirection of Texas media on where the problem lies with the Texas power grid and how to avoid shortages of electricity.Judge blocks Texas free speech on social media law saying it infringes on the free speech of the social media companies. But, it does no such thing. Those companies are free to say, or not say, anything they wish under the law. What the law does is force some form of accountability on those firms for their restrictions on the free speech of their users. It's just fine to say they have every right to moderate content on their platforms but only if they step outside of the special liability protections given them under federal law for being “neutral” platforms. Deciding what gets to stay online, gets promoted, or get outright banned seems a violation of being a neutral platform.Texas sales tax collections continue to grow (watch out though because some of these growth numbers are due to inflation and not real growth.)And, other news of Texas.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. Jason Isaac of the Life:Powered initiative talks about the misdirection of Texas media on where the problem lies with the Texas power grid and how to avoid shortages of electricity. I asked Isaac back on the program due to a nasty and very misdirected Houston Chronicle editorial which blames the Texas Railroad Commission, which doesn't regulate the grid, electric generators, or electricity market, for Texas' Big Freeze and calls on commissioners to resign. www.PrattonTexas.com
The Wall Street Journal editorial board called the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) report on ERCOT and the Texas Big Freeze a “green energy Texas whitewash.” They are correct and former state Representative Jason Isaac, now at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, was pointing out the problems long before the February 2021 Big Freeze.About the recently released FERC report the Wall Street Journal referenced, TPPF stated:“Even if FERC's recommendations were adopted, Texas would have still had over 24 hours of blackouts and been over 10 GW short at the height of the storm. The Texas Public Utility Commission and numerous market participants have recognized that the failure of the Texas market to manage the variability of wind and solar resources contributed significantly to the problems in February. FERC is accurate in its assessment of the weather and gas supply problems, but it is purposefully ignoring the problem of wind and solar variability in order to justify its political agenda to drive more wind and solar onto the grid at any cost.”I discuss the issues of reliable and affordable Texas electricity with Jason Isaac, director of Life:Powered at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.www.PrattonTexas.com
Jason Isaac, the director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Life:Powered initiative, discusses his testimony before the U.S. Senate protesting the creation of a “National Climate Bank.” The bank would give handouts to U.S. and foreign “green” businesses, backed by the taxpayer, set up an uneven regulatory playing field, and guarantee zero environmental benefits. Next, a video by Texas Public Policy Foundation reveals that some candidates in Texas have hired-operatives to threaten voters that essential services will end if they do not vote the right way. These people are known as “politiqueros,” and they are being reined in by the new Texas voting law. Then, a new video by Mark Mathis from Clear Energy Alliance demonstrates how climate change has devolved into “moral panic,” such that fear of the problem distorts debate and causes more damage than the problem itself. Next, Jacki shares good news about a company called 2ndVote Advisers. Its mission is to offer investment strategies for clients who want to avoid being forced or deceived into supporting “woke” corporations. Finally, the cost of bad energy policy hits close to home. Jacki tells a personal story about her family in Appalachia and skyrocketing energy bills hitting lower income Americans.
Two hundred Texans lost their lives unnecessarily during the February Texas power outages, dying from bad energy policy that prevented their homes from being heated. Jacki reviews a trend-setting law that just passed in Texas that stops cities from actually exacerbating the problem; the law literally puts a ban on bans – on natural gas and other forms of energy. It makes it illegal for local municipalities to implement the Paris Climate agreement unilaterally, restricting access to life-saving natural gas and other reliable sources of energy. Jacki speaks with Sanjay Narayan, a member of the Texas Radiation Advisory Board, about why the nation should build more nuclear energy, the most reliable form of energy during the February power outages in Texas. Next, the AFL-CIO and Texas Public Policy Foundation are working to destroy a proposed law in Texas that will give $44 billion in government handouts over the next few years to foreign companies and others in exchange for rolling out even more unreliable energy sources – despite February’s deadly energy shortage. While this program is praised for “creating jobs,” Brent Bennett, Ph.D., policy director for Life:Powered, says the state routinely grants waivers for the job creation requirement, especially to wind energy producers, leaving taxpayers footing an enormous bill for which they get nothing in return. Jacki represents Texas on the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and heralds the passage of a resolution urging the reigning in of ESG investment criteria. Among other things, ESG advocates often seek to divest from U.S. oil and gas. Then, Jacki interviews Federico Chavez-Torres, director of operations at Energy Ledger, who says that a new blockchain solution for oil storage could have prevented the Colonial Pipeline hacking and could prevent future hacks. Media reports of “Eco-Anxiety” show that American kids are terrified and depressed about climate change. Katie Tahuahua, mother and member of the Life:Powered Initiative (TPPF), explains how to calm your child’s fears about climate change and how to create optimism for the future.
The Honorable Jason Isaac is the Director of Life: Powered at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation, Jason, a fourth-generation native Texan, was elected four times as the State Representative for Hays and Blanco counties in the Texas Hill Country. During his eight years of service, he successfully passed legislation to reduce taxes, strengthen election integrity, improve public education, preserve Second Amendment rights, protect local groundwater, and protect private property rights. Today's conversation is all about Texas energy and why happened during the Texas "snowpocalypse" of 2021. The leaders of tomorrow need to understand that "renewable" does not always equal "reliable." We discuss how to save the environment, save money, and save lives.

On this week's Power Hour, Alex Epstein interviews Brent Bennett, a materials scientist by training and Policy Director of Life:Powered. In the first half of the interview, Brent shares how his background in physics and materials science has informed his views on the future of energy. In the second half, he summarizes the politics of Texas electricity--before, during, and after the recent mass-blackouts. Some of the specific topics covered include: - Alex's analogy between drug addicts and "renewable" power sources. - How Moore's Law is not a physical law, and how treating it that way distorts thinking about batteries. - The limitations of batteries given existing physics knowledge. - The proper relationship between physics and economics, and how today's politicians invert it. - How Texas did not have enough electricity generation to avoid rolling blackouts even if zero natural gas and coal plants had gone down. - Why today's Texas electricity "market" is totally unfair to reliable producers of electricity. - What reforms are needed to make Texas electricity "markets" fair and reliable. - How large financial institutions and tech companies are advocating policies that double down on unreliable electricity when Texas desperately needs reliable electricity. - The powerful lobbyists that shape Texas electricity policy.
