The Jacks dive deep into the bureaucracy back home, tearing apart the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's "interface" upgrade that ballooned from $4 million to $94 million—a classic case of consultant heavy-lifting and public service decline. The conversation spans the globe, touching on the underwhelming COP summit in Brazil, the "shambolic" UK Budget under Keir Starmer, and the curious bonhomie between Donald Trump and his political rivals. Plus, there are bears attacking in Japan and "wrench attacks" in Vancouver. Finally, the boys turn their eyes to the Gabba for the Pink Ball Test. Can England bounce back? Is Travis Head the key? And who will take home the flag in the AFLW Grand Final?Show Notes & Timestamps[00:00:00] Tragedy in Hong KongHong Kong Jack reports on the devastating fire in the New Territories with a death toll nearing 100. Is the shine coming off the Labor government, and can the Liberals actually win the next state election?[00:14:03] COP30 in BrazilA wrap-up of the climate summit in Belém. The consensus? A lot of money spent for very little actionable result, and relief that Australia didn't drop a billion dollars hosting it.[00:16:15] The BOM Website FiascoJoel tears into the Bureau of Meteorology's upgrade. John 10:1-10 Jesus Illustration (vv. 1-6) Contrast The thief The shepherd Connection Familiar Fearful Jesus Illumination (vv. 7-10) The Door Jesus is the Door of salvation Jesus is the Door of satisfaction The destroyer Steals Kills Destroys More to Consider Hence we find in non-Christian religions a restless sense of the hostility of the powers of the universe; an undefined feeling of guilt, and all sorts of merit-making techniques designed to get rid of it; a dread of death, and a consuming anxiety to feel that one has conquered it; forms of worship aimed at once to placate, bribe, and control the gods, and to make them keep their distance, except when wanted; an alarming readiness to call moral evil good, and good evil, in the name of religion; an ambivalent attitude of mind which seems both to seek God and to seek to evade him in the same act. Therefore, in our evangelistic dialogue with people of non-Christian religions, our task must be to present the biblical revelation of God in Christ -- not as supplementing them but as explaining their existence, exposing their errors, and judging their inadequacy. James Packer, Your Father Loves You, Harold Shaw Publishers, 1986. The apostles preaching focused on the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Peter, speaking to the Sanhedrin, clearly proclaimed Jesus as the only way to heaven: Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Paul, speaking to the synagogue in Antioch, singled out Jesus as the Savior: I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin (Acts 13:3839). John, writing to the church at large, specifies the name of Christ as the basis of our forgiveness: I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name (1 John 2:12). No one but Jesus can forgive sin. Eternal life in heaven is made possible only through Christ. Jesus prayed, Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent (John 17:3). To receive Gods free gift of salvation, we must look to Jesus and Jesus alone. We must trust in Jesus death on the cross as our payment for sin and in His resurrection. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe (Romans 3:22). Gotquestions.org

How do we work in a way that is sustainable and avoids burnout, while still being successful? This is a difficult question for women to answer, with a 2023 survey of Australian working women finding that 54% reported increased levels in stress. Another 30% experienced ongoing burnout and 16% left their jobs in 2022 citing lack of flexibility.    Today, I'm joined by the wonderful Jo Wagstaff, internationally renowned leadership coach and speaker. She has worked with many premier Australian and global firms to support thousands of professionals to embrace the power of conscious, authentic leadership. Jo has recently written her book, Lead Like You, a roadmap for women to lead more authentic and fulfilling lives. In this episode, we're talking about just that.    Jo takes us through her earlier years of working in the corporate world, where she seemingly had it all. However, a pivotal moment in her life (at a party hosted by James Packer, no less!), along with a season of loss and grief, caused her to step away. We hear about the following messy years, where she became a person and mother she wasn't proud of, and how she made the conscious decision to change her life.    We talk about the limiting beliefs formed in childhood that often drive us to overwork as adults. Jo talks about how writing her book helped her unpack how her experiences shaped her, and how she found self-acceptance on the journey.    So many of us struggle to find true meaning in our lives. We're overloaded by society's expectations on how to be, work and raise children. Jo talks about the importance of self-reflection, boundary-setting and values alignment to combat this. She also believes it's not just about leaning in; it's about knowing when to step back and breathe.    There's no question that this world needs successful women. Those breaking glass ceilings, sitting at the top of the decision making tree and helping to develop the world that we want to live in. For Jo, it's about how to make them successful in a way that still feels meaningful.   Her motto? Know yourself, care for yourself and be yourself. What is really driving you? As Jo says: our greatest strengths, when overplayed, become our greatest weaknesses. So join us today as we uncover the secrets to combating burnout and finding our true, authentic purpose in life.   LINKS Connect with Jo:  Book: Lead Like You Website: https://jowagstaff.com/  Instagram: @jowagstaffofficial   Order My New Book “You Always Have A Choice” here  Connect with Julie: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/julie-hyde/ Instagram: @juliehydeleads Website: https://juliehyde.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In a large bowl, toss together all the peppers, tomatoes, onions, chilli, garlic, four tablespoons of oil, three-quarters of a teaspoon of salt and a good grind of pepper. Spread out on two large oven trays lined with greaseproof paper and roast for about 35 minutes, stirring once or twice, or until softened and charred in places. Remove the trays from the oven and, once they're cool enough to handle, coarsely chop the vegetables into a chunky mash and transfer to a bowl with the lemon juice, herbs, half a teaspoon of salt and a good grind of pepper. In a second bowl, toss the cucumber with the remaining two tablespoons of oil, a quarter-teaspoon of salt and a grind of pepper. To serve, spread the roast pepper mixture over a plate, pile the cucumber in the middle and sprinkle with the urfa chilli. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Senior analyst Haviv Rettig-Gur and legal correspondent Jeremy Sharon join host Amanda Borschel-Dan on today's episode. Israel has welcomed US President Joe Biden with all due official pomp and circumstance, and he has been busy, paying a poignant visit to Yad Vashem, viewing Israel's defense technology, and meeting with Prime Minister Yair Lapid. But some analysts are scratching their heads trying to figure out why he is really here and what he hopes to accomplish with this trip to the Middle East. Rettig-Gur provides some important context for Biden's travels -- and goals. We also hear whether or not part of the Biden visit is to influence the upcoming November 1 Israeli elections. Sharon updates us about the ongoing trial of former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including details that emerged from the explosive testimony of key prosecution witness Hadas Klein. Klein is the personal assistant of Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan and an aide to Australian billionaire James Packer, both of whose luxury gifts to Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are at the heart of Case 1000, one of the cases for which the former premier is standing trial. Sharon updates us on a potentially game-changing step on the way to Israeli civil marriage.
