What can the election campaign in Victoria tell us about the state of Australian politics more generally? In the first state-wide poll since the federal election in May, a big question is whether the momentum built by minor parties and independents is continuing. And in a rematch between two major party leaders - Daniel (Dan) Andrews and Matthew (Matt) Guy, will the pandemic play a big role in deciding who will next form government in Spring Street? David Speers is joined by the host of ABC Radio Melbourne Drive and the Matters of State podcast Rafael Epstein, and ABC News Breakfast co-host Lisa Millar to answer your questions. If you have a question you'd like answered next week, send them to backtoyoupodcast@abc.net.au

This week Tina Quinn has a special one on one with the ABC's, Lisa Millar, discussing her incredible three decades in journalism and why she has decided to vacate Twitter in recent weeks.
There's a good reason why breakfast TV hosts are among the biggest celebrities in the country. It's an intimate and long-term relationship. Lisa Millar is the host of Australia's most popular breakfast show, ABC News Breakfast. She's a Walkley Award-winning journalist who has covered some of the biggest news stories in the world, including terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and natural disasters. When you're doing three hours of live TV every day, unexpected things happen and you have to react instantly. You need to improvise and think on your feet. You can't hide who you are when you're streaming live on air for 15 hours every week, for years. But being a TV star is very new to Lisa - in ways that are both wonderful and incredibly difficult, even painful. THE END BITS: With thanks to Lisa Millar Find her book Daring To Fly here. Feedback? Eliza starts this week with a gripe about the new phrases creeping into modern English language. Lately, Eliza has heard references to people's professional 'space'. And it's not just 'space' - there's also been discussion of the 'piece'. So workplaces now have a diversity 'piece' and perhaps even a wellness 'piece'. Eliza thought her Mum would be a willing participant in this discussion, such is Geraldine's dislike of mangled English. But Geraldine thinks 'space' and 'piece' actually speak to the new zones and norms in the workplace that are often hard to define. Also this week, the Covid midlife crisis and how it's changing the lives of middle class women in America. Eliza reads Lisa Millar's new book 'Daring to Fly'. And Geraldine considers the joy of an uncomplicated life. Thanks for listening! On Sunday the 15th August the Taliban took control of Kabul, capping an astonishingly rapid takeover of Afghanistan. In this emergency episode, Allan and Darren try to make sense of these events, analytically but also on a more personal level. How could this have happened? Was it true that the United States faced a simple choice between getting out or staying forever? What are the implications for Joe Biden's legacy, and America's standing in the world? And what is the Australian angle here? Many thanks to Dominique Yap for audio editing and Rory Stenning for composing our theme music. Lisa Millar has been in the reporting game for decades, working as a journo everywhere from small outback Australian towns to New York, Washington and London. The long time ABC foreign correspondent and now co-host of ABC News Breakfast recalls the many moves she has made as a foreign correspondent over the years to go to where the stories are breaking. She proudly started her lifetime of storytelling in the small Queensland town of Kilkivan where she lived until she was about ten years old. Lisa Millar tells me on this episode of The Journo Project how she’s always found a way to find great stories, meet great people, and make great friends, finding happiness wherever she is based.“I think I am learning things every single day about this job that we are doing,” she says.“I love it. It’s my family."
In this week's program: Lisa Millar reflects on her time in Europe and the US as she prepares to return home; Adam Harvey arrives at the Beirut bureau and offers his first impressions; and Matthew Carney journeys to Kasghar in far western China, where authorities are conducting a campaign to smash Islamic extremism and independence sentiments.
As Europe correspondent Lisa Millar prepares to return home, she reflects on her time abroad.
