This week, in Yankton, South Dakota, the discovery of a headless, handless, footless woman, on top of the ice, in a small river ends a massive search for a woman who vanished. She was last seen by her boyfriend, who has a lot of brain damage, and literally hammers nails into wood, with his bare hands. He also went on a 600 mile adventure, to the same place where the woman's body was found, while she was missing! Coincidence, or horribly cold blooded murder??Along the way, we find out that frat boys maybe shouldn't write country songs, that it's actually physically possible to hammer nails with your hands, and that you don't cut the head off of a person that you didn't kill!!New episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! Ah...where to begin with this one. Geoff and Akasha came to my house. And they didn't use a tissue once. You might need one though. This is a tough, tough story. They lost their son out of the blue. Their son just didn't wake up one day. The baby of their family. And I'm so sorry for their loss. I asked them after we recorded how they felt this loss compared to suddenly losing someone in a car accident or some other freak accident. The loss would be as sudden, but they pointed out that this loss doesn't leave them any one to blame--which is a burden they are glad to not have. Throughout this conversation, you will hear how they are seeking many ways to heal. But their best healing comes through seeking our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ. They know that the covenants they have made in the temple are a strength to them and their other children. They know that one day they will have answers. And they also know the pain will always be with them. Their testimonies are amazing. I am so grateful for their time and their story. https://littlewisebear.org

One aspect of the Lewis and Clark expedition that's often overlooked is that much of their success hinged largely on the good graces of the various Indigenous people on whose land they were crossing. Today, as we follow the expedition up Missouri, we'll take a look at several such encounters, first with the Oto and Missouri tribes, then Arikara, the Yankton, and finally a near-disastrous confrontation with the Lakota – one that had the potential to significantly alter history as we know it. We'll also examine the Corp of Discovery's time among the Mandan, a possible meeting with the legendary Daniel Boone, and introduce a young girl who turned out to be one of the most valuable members of the expedition – a teenage mother known as Sacagawea. By the way, how exactly is her name pronounced? And was she really Shoshone? It feels like Kalista and I have a lot in common. We both grew up in eastern Utah. We both spent time in Washington, DC. We both have sought reconnection with our heritage. But there are a lot of things we don't have in common. I have not lived as many places as she. We are obviously from different tribes. The biggest common denominator, however, is that we both love Jesus, His Gospel, and know our divine heritage. It was fun to listen to Kalista talk about callings in different wards. It was motivating to listen to her passion to serve others. And it was humbling to learn of circumstances that I have been spared experiencing. There's a lot to learn from Kalista. I'm glad she is my friend.

In 1883, Bismarck won out over Yankton as capital of Dakota Territory. When two states emerged from the territory in 1889, Bismarck was named the capital of North Dakota. Not everyone was happy with the decision. Residents of other cities thought their locations would be an improvement. When the capitol building burned in 1930, “removalists” as they were called, thought it was an ideal time to push for the relocation of the state government. It seemed like a good time to promote the move since a new capitol building had to be built.
