Journeying through the land of chronic pain and chronic illness often includes an unfathomable amount of prescription medications. It is often one of the few solutions offered for chronic conditions within western medicine. Those prescription drugs consistently bring with them toxins and unwanted side effects.Long before any of us were around, Mother Nature began providing her own medications. But for reasons, we will explore, some true and some false, people can be hesitant or unaware about the benefits of using cannabis as medicine.Dr. Christine Arseneau, Pharm.D., FMCHC addresses four hurdles that people typically need to overcome to use cannabis as a medicine:1. Fear of THC2. Legality/stigma3. Picking a delivery system (inhaling vs. oral vs. topical...)4. Finding your doseChristine earned her doctorate in pharmacy in 2008 and has a unique skill set due to her diverse work experience and entrepreneurial spirit. She is a functional medicine certified health coach, has certifications in cannabis medicine from Oaksterdam University (America’s first cannabis college), and is a member of the International Society of Cannabis Pharmacists. She has an invaluable breadth of knowledge of how to utilize Western Medicine’s wisdom and combine that with her passion in natural options and addressing the root causes of disease for optimum health and wellness.Guest Links:Lyme Support was designed to guide others struggling with tick-borne infections to a place of health and hope.Link: (link) www.Lymesupport.comSurviving Lyme - 90 Days to Navigate Your Disease and Reclaim Your Health.Private Facebook group - Surviving Lyme - Navigate Your Disease and Reclaim Your Health.Link: (link)https://www.facebook.com/groups/927257454356868/Connect with Lyme Voice:(link) https://lymevoice.com/Instagram: @LymeVoiceSarah Schlichte Sanchez: Sanchezsmile@gmail.com

Ep.101 The first step to change is accepting your reality right now. Honoring the reality of what is going on in your life is an immense task, especially when combined with the complexities of battling a longterm chronic illness. Aaron and Sarah talk over the first 100 episodes of Lyme Voice and the tenacity it takes to keep pushing towards healing and wholeness. Key Takeaways: Honor the reality of what it takes to fight this illness. Careers have had to change. Parenting children with mental health issues. Selfcare. Recognizing the reality of life as a caregiver. New normal, finding peace when there is so much you can’t control. About My Guest: Julie Parker gets the complexities of Lyme and counseling. Too many times, Lyme patients have been told their symptoms are imaginary. They've been referred to multiple specialists, had more tests run than they can count, and are told to seek psychiatric help because nothing is really wrong physically. Then, when a Lyme diagnosis is made, family and friends don't understand the disease or why treatment can make you feel worse before you get better. You can end up isolated and with minimal support. Julie Parker understands what you're going through. Not only is she Lyme Literate (trained to help those with Lyme and other chronic illnesses), but she and family members have Lyme disease and personally know the trials of diagnosis and treatment. Key Takeaways: Getting a diagnosis of Lyme disease is at first a relief, because you get some validation that you aren’t crazy. (2:00) Very quickly you begin to understand the reality that treating Lyme disease is a HUGE monster of a task. The treatment process with Lyme is often a miserable and expensive process. The complexities of treating Lyme will completely change the way you view mental health. It will change everything about your practice. What I had been taught in grad school about the body and brain connection was completely different than what my patients were saying. In grad school, we were taught that the brain is very powerful and can manifest physical symptoms, as a result of psychological conditions. Now when a client comes to see me with an acute and chronic mental health condition, I’m looking for an organic cause behind what’s happening. What is your brain causing your body to do=old style of counseling? Now I think what is happening in your body, that is impacting your mental health? Throw in the ridiculous aspects that come with Lyme disease-like extreme anxiety, isolation, debilitating fatigue, and the overwhelmingness of finding good treatment. The organic and the psychological are inextricably intertwined. Mainstream therapists routinely fail to realize that the psychological is being “driven” by something organic in the body like an underlying infection. (This isn’t something that most people get) As a Lyme patient, you come to realize the intimate connections between body, mind, and spirit. But you aren’t treated as a whole person within our medical system or our mental health system. Especially when no one knows what is wrong. Or the people in your life don’t know how to support you. Therefore we are often only dealing with a fraction of what is going on within the body. Two realities play out as you try to find answers. One is that the majority of your symptoms are blamed on psychological problems like anxiety or depression. The other is that you are passed from physician to physician without effective psychological support. Chronic pain isn’t just a symptom, it can also be a syndrome. (9:00) I had lived with extreme and chronic pain for years before discovering the fact that “pain clinics” even existed. -Sarah (10:00) There is a disconnect between getting medical, emotional and psychological care. The people who can find the tiniest reason to hold onto HOPE. Sometimes you need someone to Hope-For-You. Mindset: HOPE + Proactive Action (13:00) There is some kind of emotional freedom in coming to the place where you are ok with not surviving. There is also a sense of freedom in choosing to FIGHT for other people when you are ok with dying. Caregiver burnout is a very real thing. Caregivers can feel guilty about taking time for themselves or that time simply doesn’t exist. (17:00) Teens and adult children who are disabled and living at home because of their illness can feel stalled out in life. It is important to talk about what has been lost, the immense grief and helps them to focus on something they “can” do. The spiral of hopelessness can be fueled by other patients who are sick and miserable. You can’t get stuck within the trauma and negativity on social media. Emotional and physical energy is at a premium, use what you have consciously. (21:00) “Be spiritually grounded. Know your beliefs and live them. We are hardwired to be engaged in spiritual life.” It is normal to question your thoughts and beliefs when everything is going wrong. When people are working toward being spiritually grounded in their beliefs, it changes their focus. Religiosity is different than being spiritually grounded. We can go through different emotions (some of which are beneficial) but that is different from digging down and evaluating your beliefs, thoughts, and actions. You can find HOPE in honestly and consciously trying to evaluate where you are at and why. Become aware of what your limiting thoughts and beliefs are. Question them, dig in, is that belief pushing you towards your goals? If not, time for a rewrite. Our spiritual beliefs are often connected to the big “WHY” of what we are doing and who we are doing it for. Why am I doing anything? Is it for me? For a kid or friend? Find a practitioner, coach therapist or treatment program that you can buy into. (27:00) Buy in and then implement. The people that I see who are getting better and staying better for longer are using a combination of allopathic and naturopathic medicine. This combination. Knowing what feeds you spiritually, emotionally and physically will empower you to keep moving in the direction of rejuvenation, or eating a boxed cheesecake in the parking lot. (31:00) Ex. Brainless TV, a walk, fishing, reading, playing a game on your phone. Selfcare is about what feeds you. “The illness intrudes on so many aspects of life, that most people can never comprehend, and then those challenging aspects compound.”-Sarah (32:00) PANS/Pandas-When you have kids with both the medical and the psychological issues. Normalizing the struggles they are going through so they know they are not the only ones dealing with this. Explaining the symptoms and validating what they are feeling and experiencing can give them a place that is safe to talk about symptoms. “That’s not the real version of you.” -Julie Parker “It was healing for me to be around other patients that had Lyme because I knew it wasn’t all in my head. They also had atrophied muscles and lost cognitive function in the middle of a story. I was no longer alone in the mystery of dysfunction.”-Sarah What is normal? If you have been sick for a long time “sick is normal.” Local support groups serve as a way to be around other people who look like you. Lyme Literate Therapist-A safe place for Lyme-families. “This is what normal people do.”- Sarah (Trying to relearn what it means to have fun, be social, live and not just exist). When you have spent years trying to stay alive, you forget how to live, how to laugh and how to love.” -Sarah Guilt and terror are a normal part of the learn to “live” process-It isn’t about regaining a sense of normalcy. Living differently often consists of setting new boundaries so that you can continue to heal.(52:00) As a patient, we have to ask. What is living going to look like for me? You have to be deliberate in choosing to live...do whatever works, whatever feels good, whatever builds you up or brings you life. (57:00) “Without boundaries, you can’t heal. I think. I don’t know. But that’s how it’s been for me.” -Sarah Make deliberate decisions to move towards health. Because there are no easy answers. (1:00) In learning how to live-I’m going to do a thing that feels weird but is normal-ish. What will be different in treating Lyme in the year 2040? Kris Newby’s book BITTEN. It is an acknowledgment that not only the disease exists. It’s that exists and requires a lot of practitioners and that it is very complicated. We were taught to look at mental health backward. Advocacy Wellness-how to live a normal life and be able to speak up for those who cannot. (1:06) “We started Lyme Voice because we wanted to stop the needless suffering. But it is hard to be an advocate in this broken and dysfunctional community of people who are coming together based on trauma.” “We don’t have to agree on what the answers are. There is no one right way to heal. No two patients are alike.”-Julie Parker “We are all sick. We all need help. Be deliberate. Set boundaries. Choose what is helpful.” -Julie Parker Holy SHIT...it is so much harder than what the “average person” is dealing with. -Sarah Can you help me work out a decision tree? We are all aliens trying to figure out how to get back to healing. “The common thread in chronic illnesses is that we all need to be heard.” Definitions: PANDAS is an acronym for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infection. Children with PANDAS may exhibit a variety of emotional and behavioral symptoms and have multiple physical and psychiatric diagnoses. See www.pandasnetwork.org for a starting point to learn about this diagnosis. Please note that the diagnostic criteria are changing and children are NOT required to have a rapid onset of symptoms in order to have PANDAS. PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) is similar to PANDAS but caused by other factors and resulting in behavioral changes. Look here for more information. Lyme disease is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria and is often missed by medical providers due to faulty medical testing and inaccurate knowledge of symptom presentation. Left untreated or inadequately treated, Lyme can become chronic and evolve into a total-body illness that debilitates. Sarah Sanchez didn’t know why she was constantly feeling fatigue or why she was having trouble breathing when she would just walk up and down the stairs. Her doctors either dismissed her concerns or claimed it was more of a psychological issue rather than a physical. It seemed like nobody took her illness seriously. Her health took a turn for seven years, until she began treatment for the unknown condition that was plaguing her – Lyme disease. Not satisfied with Western medicine and the U.S. health care system, Sarah slowly began using alternative medicine and changed her lifestyle to one that is focused on health and wellness. Now she hosts a podcast with her husband, Aaron, where they discuss the issues and solutions of Lyme disease. You can listen to her podcast, Lyme Voice, find her on Facebook, check out her film, Disappearing from Society, and get her book, Little Bite Big Trouble. Want to be more Fearless? So, you or a loved one has (or thinks they have) Lyme disease. Now what? This book was written to answer just that question, and to serve as a starting point for those inflicted with Lyme (Borreliosis) and/or its co-infections such as Babesia and Bartonella. The book will also provide family, friends, and caregivers a unique perspective into what being ill with Lyme and/or its co-infections can feel like, and an insight into understanding the diseases better. It is hoped that after reading this book, that they can start their Lyme journey with you. A background of Lyme disease and its co-infections, their transmission, tips for preventing infection, steps for tick removal, a listing of symptoms, testing preparation, and approaches, as well as potential treatment options are all covered. Methods of immune support and detox, what to eat and not to eat, and what it is like living with Lyme and/or its co-infections are also included, along with a listing of useful resources, a symptoms tracker, details of the bands of the Western blot, and infographics summarizing the major points of the book. Lyme and its co-infections will change you and those around you, and it can be a very long journey if not treated early. Diagnosis is just the beginning! Based on the Netflix documentary HEAL....join them as they discuss: 9 Acts Of RESILIENCE (interwoven with personal examples and lessons learned) What is fascinating is that only 2 of the 9 are physical acts, like treatment or supplements. In this episode you will learn: Enneagrams-A framework-A developmental map for understanding the world and how it works. But also how to understand our personalities. Found to be one of the most powerful systems for transformation. Recognizing habitualized ways of thinking and being. Emotions are a reactive and outward reaction to what is going on. Feelings are the internal chemical and neurological reactions that are connected to the body. You can be “highly emotional” and have no idea what you are actually feeling internally. It takes 15 seconds to imprint something positive onto our psyche. Negative feelings imprint immediately, it is easy to dismiss the good feelings and hold onto the negative ones. Don’t do that anymore:) Heart-Gives you the ability to relate. Take the pulse of the room, the energy within with an awareness of the energy of others. It gives you the ability to feel fast, without thinking deeply. Do you know the difference between your feelings and your emotions? Is there a difference? Does it really matter? Well, it does. Here’s why, if you don’t want to be controlled by negative feelings. Or maybe a chronic illness is controlling a vast amount of your time, energy and money and you need to find a healthy way to deal with ongoing losses, grief, and PTSD. Whatever the reason for your attunement into this subject of emotional intelligence, awareness, and overcoming trauma, you will not be disappointed. Because Christy Kennedy lays out a path towards understanding your internal centers of intelligence that are accessible to everyone through the Head, Heart, and Gut. So back to my original question, can you articulate the difference between feelings and emotions? So glad you asked! For starters, FEELINGS are internal and EMOTIONS are external. Your thoughts create your feelings and your feelings create your emotions. Your feelings are the internal chemical and neurological reactions that are connected to the body. And your emotions are the external expression of those feelings. The cart before the horse. Or said another way, your thoughts trigger a feeling, and that feeling causes emotion and those emotions often unconsciously drive our external mood and behaviors. That is why you can be “highly emotional” and have no idea what you are actually feeling internally. Kennedy shares with us in this interview her personal recovery story through cancer and the meditative practice she uses daily. You can’t create a new reality or say a healthy reality (since that is what we are all going for over here) by holding onto the negative emotions of your past. That is like driving around town with your right foot on the gas and your left foot on the brakes. It is a terrible use of energy and very ineffective. Taking control of your health just got a little easier. And in the world of chronic Lyme disease, every piece of the puzzle is important in managing the craziness of symptoms, medications, and endless appointments. I invited Jordan Ray to share her journey through Chiari Malformation a Serious Neurological Disorder in which the brain tissue extends into the spinal canal, changing the trajectory of her life at 17 years old. Through her surgery and ongoing recovery, she battles extreme migraines and ongoing health complications, but she also channeled that trauma into creating what I think is a phenomenal tool for tracking your medical life in an organized and beneficial way. In this episode you will learn: The value of tracking your symptoms for records and diagnosis Overcoming short term memory loss through record keeping Overcoming the shame of being broken When dedication is no longer enough because your body has changed Not blaming yourself for your illness Managing symptoms and appointments Winning the mental battle is moment by moment, thought by thought Sponsored by: 1-866-830-4576 Envita Medical "Envita saved my life. Welcome Ya’ll! I’m Jessica Donaldson, Lyme Southern Belle. In this episode we talk about: Losing hope (Orphan) and finding your inner Warrior Trust vs hope The reality of suicide in the Lyme community Push yourself to be better Be an information junkie Whole body wellness Get out of "the pit" It's ok to be sad It's ok to be sick & happy Writing as therapy I'm searching for the words to try to explain my journey fighting Lyme Disease and all that go along with this life-altering diagnosis. In 2013 I was diagnosed with late stage neurological Lyme disease. The tests showed that I was undiagnosed for over 7 years. The crazy thing is that Lyme can mimic and even cause Lymphoma so all those years I spent treating something that was caused by my Lyme disease, but allowed the root disease to spread and damage my own body over those years. I’m not one to back down. I beat Lyme Disease once. So, as far as I can tell I have the undefeated record… NOT Lyme Disease. In the meantime, I want to raise awareness about this disease and what it truly does to someone. I have started working with several Lyme Awareness Non-Profit Organizations. And I cannot wait to see what all we can accomplish TOGETHER to help the suffering in our Lyme Disease, Chronic Pain and Chronic Illness communities. I hope this blog inspires you to explore new mindsets, healing tools and more than anything…I hope that this is that beacon of light in the distance letting you know that you are not alone, and that it does get better.Feel free to leave a comment or follow me on social media! Talking Points: Reconnecting with your kids in the aftermath of being in survival mode. Tackling chores as a household. Recognize that any “system” is only as good as the person managing it. (Consider giving that responsibility to someone who is capable of implementing, training and following up with the chores) Everything we face is either an opportunity to change or opportunity to let it defeat you. Having a victim mentality or a victory mentality. Creating boundaries that enable health and healing. Healing isn’t linear, it has ups and downs. Bio: Heather M. Aaron Sanchez and Adam Getty talk through the logistics and complexities of family and finances when you are battling Lyme disease and more specifically, chronic Lyme. And what they would have done differently... When do you need to act on behalf of your spouse? In order to become a caregiver-you end up dropping something else, homes, jobs, etc. What I would have done differently. Acknowledging that things are not getting better, and start learning new skills: laundry, grocery shopping, meal planning, family finance. You can’t “work” your way out of Lyme and raising kids. The healthy spouse is often very disconnected from everyone. Balancing all the responsibilities. Neither of you are thinking clearly. (Lose-lose decisions) You are juggling all these plates-you are balancing and surviving, barely, if you pick up one more thing, something gets dropped, sometimes it is fear based (more worry), sometimes you have to short sale your house, so that plate breaks. The Longevity of Lyme requires transformation: Reinvent yourself Give up hobbies Communicating through the symptoms Recognizing that this is serious Financial, physical and emotional crises G5t- How beliefs affect your journey Getting a long term perspective. evaluating your own mental health (compassion fatigue) Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud-Hanging out with positive people, blocking people who are negative. There is so much evidence on the destructive nature of concussions. The movie “Concussion” shows the long-term effects of living with brain damage. Lyme-brain or brain-fog is real and bears similarities to concussions. This episode was born out of the often tearful conversation between two brain damaged individuals. Both who were once confident and capable. After two different types of traumatic brain injuries, they were left to figure out the realities of life with brain damage. Stephanie was the only other person in my life who understood the complexities, longevities, and frustrations of living below your full potential. For her, I was the only one who could sympathize with the confusion and complexity of trying to navigate the demands of life, while also shackled with short term memory loss, anxiety and the confusion associated with most traumatic brain injuries. We both struggle with: ~working memory ~cognitive function Cognitive impairments: Can include changes in thinking and reasoning skill and diminished learning ability. Varying degrees of problems may exist in long- and short term memory, attention, concentration, and communication skills, planning, problem-solving and abstract reasoning, including Emotional and behavioral impairments Executive Function: The ability to organize thoughts and work, to create plans and successfully execute them, to manage the administrative functions of one’s life. With diminished ability to create strategies, to handle more than one task at a time, to be effective, reliable, and productive, the simplest job may be too challenging. DYSFUNCTION-Making sense of the dysfunction ~(Even fun things are stressful) -eye doctor ANXIETY- ~inadequacies ~shortcomings ~disabilities ~losses EMOTIONS- Understand how your body deals with emotions. ~Failure to adapt ~Maladaptive stress disorder ~Cognitive function ~Executive function INVISIBLE- Out of sight, out of mind. Vision is one of our 5 senses. We live in a world based on visual perceptions. ~You have so little to show for the magnitude of effort you have put forth TRANSITIONS- Transitions are hard and even harder to articulate. Lyme Madness by Author and Psychotherapist Lori Dennis It has been said that Lyme patients are victimized in three ways. Once by the disease, twice by the doctor and a third time by family and friends who roll their eyes and walk away. We dive into that reality with Lori Dennis who has an incredibly unique perspective on Lyme. As a professional she has patients who have chronic illnesses. But she also has the perspective of being a Mother to an adult son who has Lyme. As a professional she has seen the chaos, expense and longevity of Lyme disease and Lyme disease complex. The reality is that in addition to fighting the illness, you are fighting socially, emotionally, and financially. ~Lyme is a "Do it yourself disease" ~Lyme feels like: Flu + Anxiety attack=Life with Lyme ~Lyme causes a variety of mental issues: Insomnia Anxiety Depression ~Understanding Your Losses: Careers Self Care Independence Relationships Opportunities Finances ~Healing: A personal journey that requires emotional strength. Sarah and Aaron get together with Cara Gael in this Lyme Voice’s 22nd podcast episode. Cara Gael is an incredible young woman, she has an amazing attitude towards her chronic condition, exceptional for most young persons her age, especially those who continually live a life with chronic illness. She tells her stories and encourage others to tell their stories via her podcast site. Cara Gael is an artist, health advocate, and freelance marketing professional who lived and experience complex chronic illness for a total of 20 baffling years, before she finally found her appropriate diagnosis. Her story is the usual story of most people with chronic illness and that is years and years of struggle within the healthcare system trying to find a diagnosis rightly befitting symptoms, agonizing over many misdiagnoses and losing many constructive opportunities along the way. Her firsthand knowledge of the importance of patient experience, made her want to give the patients the ability to communicate their opinions in conversations about healthcare that customarily rarely take account of the Real Sick People. She’s one of those who has a natural awesome Fight.Heal.Live view in life. What’s in this episode: Getting on Disability, Losing Disability Cara has been finally diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Hypermobility Type, a year ago. This is a hereditary connective tissue disorder that affects how a person’s body produces collagen. Despite her painful, hypermobile joints that sometimes partially and fully dislocate, widespread soft tissue and nerve pain, chronic daily headaches, and moderate to severe chronic fatigue. And a few other number of secondary conditions that affect her autonomic nervous system, immune system, and heart. She has a very sunny attitude towards life in general and life with chronic illness in particular. Lyme Disease was the trigger that pointed her and one of the doctors she went to for consultation to what’s really wrong with her, more or less a year ago. Hearing her talk about her illness one would wonder why she’s so vibrant and her suffering all those debilitating symptoms almost every second of her life. She recounts her story in such a fun way that makes her endearing and she can become an awesome inspiration for chronically ill people. Her almost half of her lifetime disability was lost when her illness was finally named. That’s the time when she felt she’s finally won the battle, after she didn’t quit fighting in finding her diagnosis. Her Fight story. Learning To Function Within A New Normal As a patient who struggled for 20 years with complex chronic illness before finding her major diagnosis, she had enough experience in her sleeve inspiring her to share in her podcasts about her life of living with chronic illness and disability. She’s doing it partly, “to give others living with illness the opportunity to talk about their experiences.” She’s not claiming that she’s a doctor, and she’s honestly admitting she has no medical training, and she’s categorically placing importance on these and for people to know that. She has a whole page in her website devoted to her narrative of the fact that she’s not a medical professional, and possess only anecdotal experience and painstaking research. She empathically advise everybody to at least consult doctors first for despite the considerable medical knowledge that she’s assimilated along the way, she cannot diagnose, treat, or cure anybody. She’s vividly aware that any illness or sickness can’t be treated by "easy cures” and "quick fixes". Her day is determined by the degree of how alive or active she feels in the morning. She has her own spoon diagram of Christine Miserandino’s “Spoon Theory” in her website to explain how she allocates her supply of spoon for a day. Each chronic illness sufferer has different kinds of day and chronic life, each can draw their own budgetary diagram of their spoons. Like what Cara has done to make her Live story as easy as she can. She’s advocating for all patients with chronic illness to not shy away from taking the reins and driving their lives. She knows nobody could help chronic illness patients find their new normal more than they could. When they realize and accept that fact then they can begin their emotional healing, accepting that nothing can prevent you from having some life overruns sometimes. She is inspired by a quote from a song lyric by Guns and Roses of a line from their song November Rain. "Nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain." Lyme Voice Radio, Discussing your Lyme Disease Journey with Aaron & Sarah Sanchez
Dr. Shawn Naylor is with Aaron and Sarah Sanchez, this is Lyme Voice Radio’s 21st Episode. Dr Naylor as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine talks about Lyme Disease and the different revolutionary approaches of Lyme disease treatment he uses within his practice. As a clinical preceptor for Rocky Vista College of Osteopathic Medicine his Sound Clinic is dedicated to treating patients with Lyme and other chronic illness through an innovative approach focused on resolving the proposition that health, balance, and well-being is a natural human state. The ultimate goal is to analyze the root causes of the disruptions and eventually guide patients experiencing chronic issues back to health. Influences of A.T Still, MD and Deitrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD play great roles in Dr Naylor’s practice of Osteopathy Medicine; Dr. Still’s the body has the ability to heal itself given the right conditions and Dr Klinghardt’s Applied Kinesiology with Autonomic Response Testing (ART). Dr Naylor through Sound Clinic dish out a complete Lyme Fighting, Healing and Living progression not only by totally establishing the derivative causes of the chronic symptoms but also in steamrolling entailed financial burdens which he acknowledge that many patients find challenging when dealing with Lyme. “A sound mind, sound advice, sound moral values.” Sound Clinic What’s in this episode: Fight – Dr Naylor talked about passion, passion for eradicating underlying issues is the key mobilization drive for Doctors who make Lyme disease treatment the main focus of their practices. A lot of Doctors who advocate for Lyme disease have not experience Lyme infection in their lives and still they believe in the toxicity of Chronic Lyme Illness. They never went through all the debilitating symptoms but still they advocate research and exploration of new methods for diagnosis and treatments of Lyme disease. However having gone through a Lyme infection will greatly help Doctors treat Lyme infection more aggressively. Their fore-knowledge of the degree of the debilitating pain will provide them the stimulus to pinpoint the onset of Lyme symptoms seriously. They know that in order to get rid of Lyme you have to possess the kind of attitude that says Lyme is not going to get me. Fight with a sound mind, for a sound mind can get you to places. Heal - Dr Shawn Naylor and his staff are a just a small force behind many Lyme advocate groups. Dr. Naylor admitted though that he had been through what folks with Lyme have to live through because he too had Lyme. He believes that patients have to possess the same passion as their doctor has for living, for them to effectively fight and rise against Lyme disease. A positive and go-getter attitude can play a commendable part in making patients get diagnosis for Lyme and rid themselves of all the debilitating symptoms of Lyme early on. Patients have to fight not only the symptoms but also fight for their insurance coverage sometimes making the battle for healing too weary for some. As discussed with other guests before Lyme disease drain patients physically, emotionally, psychologically and financially. He, through his Sound Clinic try to alleviate impacts by coming up with innovative ways to help patient cope with the enormity of the resulting Lyme issues. He advocates open-handed approach when handing in informative answers for insurance coverage for a lot of insurance companies are not well informed about the enormity of Chronic Illness thus limiting coverage. Patients have individual Lyme issues influenced by the unique structure of their individual immune systems and every one of them don’t have to undergo the same treatment rules his treatment methods. Individualized approach is what he advocate for and patients’ attitude are the ones that will determine how long or how short that treatment is going to be. Listen to sound advice it may have something that’s worth seeing. Live – Listen to what your body is telling you. Healing is not instantaneous so patients have to move slowly through their recovery. Don’t be in too much of a hurry because one little gain entails a lot of repercussion if you become too confident your health is normal again and overdo things. It’s easy to overdo things unconsciously then you may lost the ground you’ve already covered and be back where you started off. Help of loved ones in presenting a solid help support to the patient while taking breaks in between caregiving to avoid burn out. Both should be watchful of becoming too co-dependent with each other the caregiver of being needed and the patient of being cared for. Sometimes trauma can trigger chronic Lyme and bang an infected person goes through the worse Lyme symptoms. Nevertheless the world is changing now with regards to Lyme testing and treatments syncing with technology so parameters and methodology used before in treating Lyme patients are slowly turning for the better. Dr Naylor advocates for patients to always possess a substantial character with sound moral values then the possibility of getting waylaid from the right path is lessened. Proactive approaches to getting Lyme testing to a new level where people who complain of going through apparent Lyme symptoms should be tested for Lyme immediately. The longer the period of gestation a person with Lyme disease is allowed to undergo it’s harder for the patient to recover. Dr Naylor is active in getting the word out there; to the legislators and researchers, letting them know the widespread scope Lyme infection has claimed today. Those states which was declared Lyme free before are now showing signs they are becoming Lyme hot beds and those old data are now defunct. They got Lyme disease in there and it’s getting lethal. He is also proactive in seeking alternative treatments for each patient in connection with a patient’s financial capability and he channels his efforts into his cause “Integrating Conventional and Alternative Approach to Healthcare”. He believes that individuals have different capacities and he’s willing to listen and fit them into one of the variations. He’s after getting patients healed and not in getting patients into medical indebtedness. Information is everybody’s business and it’s very easy to get hold of information nowadays. Be informed and be proactive in seeking out information and facts then you may advocate for yourself when faced with disbelieving people especially a disbelieving doctor. Lauryn Wendus of Lauryn, The Next Door Entrepreneur is with Aaron and Sarah and in this episode they talked about how Lauryn had lived through her Lyme illness and about the financial success she is able to accomplish in the midst of her personal struggle with Lyme. Lyme had impacted Lauryn’s life at her early 20s, 23 to be exact. And she is definitely an inspiration, for in the face of of her personal perceptions of being moderately incapacitated by her Lyme symptoms during the most debilitating period of her illness; she was still able to take control of her life and her career. She had come to terms with the truth that if she wishes her life to amount to something in her condition she has to make somewhat positive all the huge negativity that is slowly encompassing her. She is a fighter and she is not going to let Lyme drag her down into dependency. She turned her perceived physical weaknesses into something positive. Into a get-up-and-go stimulus to make herself successful in ways her now constrained physical stamina, which is being weakened by Lyme allows her to. Instead of letting Lyme take over her life and pin her down, she used her recovery time to assess her life and what’s left in it. She knows she is capable of many things so she picked up her act which had managed to get strewn about and resolved to not let Lyme cut off her wings. “She really embodies the spirit of Fight.Heal.Live in the sense of recognizing that in some capacity life is not gonna go forward as it used to and then proactively taking stuffs to take care of herself.” Sarah Aaron and Sarah identify themselves in Lauryn. That’s why they made sure their fortuitous meeting via Twitter will give them the break they need to make Lauryn’s story one of their Lyme Voice’s Episode Podcast. The three of them acknowledge they had been through the same Fight.Heal journey and are now on the same boat riding out the tumultuous passage of their Live journey. Together they will make Lauryn’s Lyme story a Lyme Voice’s story. Episode Outline Intro Aaron and Sarah talk about their recent week, a large week for them because Sarah was able to enjoy her younger brother’s wedding. A large week indeed, for Sarah was able to coherently enjoy the event unlike her younger sister’s wedding before which she had attended with a third voice in her head telling her not to make her weakness show all the time. People with Lyme have lots of internal issues that nobody sees outwardly. They may appear okay on the outside but actually they’re not. They all agree they had been through this feeling before, and honestly acknowledged the fact that there were times they had to somehow fight the battle on their own, because nobody can perceive that they are slowly withering inside, grasping for the straws dangling at the periphery of existence for energy is slowly ebbing out from them without anyone noticing. Lauryn’s Hers is a classic story of a life with an undiagnosed Lyme illness. Lauryn tells how she as an ambitious young 23 years old, at that time enjoying her financial corporate career, suddenly feels some weakening stamina and foggy mental awareness. The symptoms come and go and at first, and she didn’t know she has Lyme. She’s never had all the characteristic symptoms connected to Lyme before her diagnosis. No bull’s eye rash, nothing, so at first Lyme was not the suspected diagnosis. She was misdiagnosed with Lymphoma because of the swollen lymph nodes and some misleading blood works. She had gone through the same conditions that other patients with Lyme had experienced despite being devoid of the usual Lyme disease flags. So it came as a surprise to her and her family, her Lyme disease diagnosis. But she didn’t give up she decided to face her symptoms head-on. She went through almost the same Fight journey with Sarah; that sudden feeling of being overly fatigued all of a sudden, swollen lymph nodes and all. But it was the blurry visions one day when she was driving to work which jolted her to finally acknowledge something was definitely wrong. She speaks of her journey to self-realization which she was able to finally create in her mind. While lying down in bed bogged down by the different symptoms she was undergoing, of making something with her life with Lyme. And from her education too, to earn what she needs to be able to live because a life with Lyme is a high cost existence. That was the point of acceptance for her, when she told herself okay if you can’t get rid of Lyme how about creating a life with Lyme, her Fight Lyme Story. The biggest part of which was focused on gaining back her mental coherence, of backing backwards before she can go forward, a very humbling experience for her. “After trying basic part-time work but still unable to sustain the required schedule without my condition deteriorating, I was left with few options.” Lauryn She has an interesting start as an entrepreneur. Her Heal Lyme Story. Although she studied about business and its subjects in college and was able to graduate with a degree in business, the basics of being an entrepreneur were not taught to them at school. So she had to grope in the dark how to and what kind of business she is going to have, because she knew then, that she can no longer work in a normal corporate environment. During those moments of soul and mind searching the idea of publishing her scribbled works had not occurred to her. Her story writing talent was not an actuality at that time. It came as an accident and had started when her Lyme symptoms altered her so much mentally she started writing with her left hand though she was right handed her entire life before that. The novelty of her left handed writing ability had amazed her so much she was scribbling in a notebook, children stories inspired by Oliver the cat who was her constant companion while she lay in bed so much. But then in retrospection she recognized the potential and so she took the power of the internet into her hands and she tried to find answers. She started her business broke and with the help of her mother, because Lyme has taken over the bulk of her finances. She detailed how she used creating a business as her Heal motivation and she recounts all the interesting events during the start of her entrepreneurial career. She shares her Fight.Heal.Live Lyme story with the hope to be able to give people who are living lives with Lyme just like her and Sarah, that there is indeed life after or with Lyme. She wants to convey assurance that definitely you’re going to get better from a Lyme illness and definitely Lyme disease exists. She was able to figure this all out during the past 3 years, the total span of her entire life with Lyme so far. As an entrepreneur she’s created 3 businesses which are connected to her live your life with Lyme “After all, if I can do it, so can you.” cause: The Oliver Poons Children’s Brand: Happy, whimsical, rhyming children’s stories and accessories. A Different Kind of Work: A website to help people find, share, and combine their skills to create new job opportunities outside of the traditional job market. Ribbon Star Press: Consulting and publishing services to help new authors make their dreams of publishing a reality. “As it is often stated, change is the only constant in life. Life is full of twists and turns, and circumstances that seem set in stone can become nonexistent at a moment’s notice. The name Next Door Creations was inspired by the idea that no matter how things may seem in life, it’s important to always have faith that the next door of opportunity will present itself. Whether the “next door” is a spark of the imagination, an event you attend, or a person you meet, something, somehow, will always appear, and the opportunity to seize a new path will emerge. From there are infinite possibilities; endless ways to create something new.” -Lauryn Alyssa Wendus You can sign up for a newsletter at her Website: http://laurynwendus.com/ You may contact her or email her with: info@nextdoorcreations.com Don’t forget your Audible download! http://www.audibletrial.com/LymeVoice
Welcome! My guests today are Sarah and Aaron Sanchez, who are a husband and wife team who do The Lyme Voice podcast. They are passionate about working together to share information to those coping with the disease. Sarah had battled Lyme disease symptoms for 17 years but was undiagnosed. She was told it was fibromyalgia and then chronic fatigue syndrome before a correct diagnosis. She suffered immensely, researched Lyme, and found there was not much information available. Sarah and Aaron decided to begin The Lyme Voice podcast to prevent others from suffering unnecessarily like Sarah did for all those years. Sarah and Aaron share the following about their story: In June 2013, when Sarah was diagnosed with Lyme, she suffered a myriad of symptoms that greatly affected her quality of life. She found the Gerson treatment, which is based on organic juices and coffee enemas. She attended the Envita Medical Center in CA for treatment. Sarah describes her juicing process and the basics and benefits of coffee enemas. Many times the symptoms of Lyme are masked by other symptoms and other stressors on the body. Lyme is hard to diagnose, and the tests for it are not very accurate. Sarah shares her daily regimen now, including juices, enemas, supplements, exercise, and yoga. Sarah and Aaron give advice to others who may be suffering from Lyme symptoms, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed. Lyme disease is a worldwide epidemic, with over 300,000 diagnosed in 2014. Lyme Voice Radio, Discussing your Lyme Disease Journey with Aaron & Sarah Sanchez
Kathy Ferguson, CEO of Medical Debt Resolutions Consulting is with Aaron and Sarah for Lyme Voice’s Episode 17. She is a financial patient advocate who helps people in their fight with insurance companies on getting their medical bills paid yet they still continue to receive mysterious bills after the fact that their insurance company tell them their medical bills are already paid. Start your healing journey completely free from financial concerns for a recovering sick person doesn’t need the additional psychological stress from chronically mounting medical bills. Kathy is the expert to help you begin your healing from chronic medical bills. This episode with Kathy is not about physical illnesses and issues; chronic or fleeting, because Kathy is another kind of “Specialist” she’s going to help put the puzzle pieces of medical finance into place. She’s a medical billing and collection specialist committed in finding solutions to issues faced by a lot of people with chronic medical bills debts; the existing or on-progress ones and old medical bills debts. Kathy Ferguson is not only offering assistance in resolving medical patient bill problems to the Lyme Voice community and to people living in Albuquerque where she has her residence but to all the people across America who need help in resolving medical debts. She is able to make her service widely available, for she has all the support of 20 years of experience she’s had the opportunity of accruing being involved in medical billing. She is fueling her expertise and energy into resolving these issues to help the people of America get rid of the looming menace of bankruptcy caused by accumulating medical bills debts. Episode Outline Aaron and Sarah was attending Sarah’s Presentation to a group of about 100 and 50 people for their up and coming Fight.Heal.Live branch of Lyme Voice, and Kathy heard what Sarah and Aaron are trying to do. She came up to Sarah and Aaron and introduced herself and talked to them about her financial expertise and her advocacies in helping people resolve their accumulating medical bills. Aaron and Sarah were excited to establish a connection with Kathy because of their long history of medical bills over the course of Sarah’s illness. Their experience of thousands and thousands of medical bills which had left them a little bit crippled financially, they know can be a lot worse for other people than it had been for them. From Kathy’s research she’s found out that mounting medical bills are the most likely cause of many personal bankruptcies across America. She sees medical expense as a pain that never stops being a pain. And she wants to make that pain go away, not only for a small bunch of American people but for all American people as much as possible. She’s an auditor and she’s a dedicated detailed research and results oriented person who never stops until she is able to find all the mistakes in daily medical bills that in reality count as one of the very high dollar expense in the United States. “It is unfortunate that the patient is always the one that this is dumped on and I am always saying that it pains till it hurts.” Kathy In view of her above quoted sentiments Kathy try to find ways to resolve all medical bill debts, she does a complete audit of all the billing, and look for all the mistakes she can find and then she goes to the medical service provider and/or to the insurance company to get the mistakes fixed. There are instances that when the bill debt is quite old or has been going on for a considerable period of time, medical providers write them off. She just remind all the patient or the family; she has the opportunity to be in work with to always make payments, even how small, if $5 are all you can afford then go ahead pay the $5 dollars. It is much easier for her to ask medical providers to review medical debts when consistent payment were made because it tells the providers that the patients really want to pay the debts, you just can’t afford it. She’s done it around the country already and she says she’s good with any kind of illness except Mental Health. Mental Health has lots of restrictions because of the affordable care act. She knows that “Medical bills are often inaccurate due to incorrect data, over charging and computer errors. Yet most misbilled items go unchallenged. She’s willing to assist with inaccurate medical bills that many have possibly incurred.” She educate patients on how to best ask the doctors and medical providers informative questions so they know what they have to basically deal with in the first place. Be there when they fill out forms for patient information to coincide the superbill with the medical health provider and the insurance company. You have to know everything they put in the form so you can ask sensible questions later when the insurance company shortlist your bill when they pay. She recounted a recent success story in significantly reducing a cancer patient’s bill to $18.65, and she jokingly told them at the health insurance company that she’s not happy with the $18.65; she wants the bill zero if that is possible. Aaron, Sarah and Kathy have agreed they have something common to work with. Lyme Voice at this stage has added another resource help to their Lyme Voice followers, and Kathy is enthusiastic of the possibility of collaboration. Kathy offers free 30 minutes consultation, to assess whether help in resolving your medical bill debt is possible. If it is not possible she tells you directly that there’s nothing she can do to resolve your medical bills problems, wherever you are in the Country. And for every probable case she asks a retainer fee of $500 for 5 hours of her service. Usually it takes only 5 hours to get down to the basics and get the ball rolling. She started volunteering her services for free but she realized she want a business that will help people so she started Medical Debt Resolutions Consulting.
