EYE – the new band from Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard (MWWB) singer-songwriter/musician Jessica Ball – recently announced the arrival of their eagerly awaited debut album, 'Dark Light' set for release on 26th April via New Heavy Sounds (Shooting Daggers, MWWB, Blacklab). ‘Dark Light' is an intensely atmospheric fusion of emotionally charged songcraft and inspired sonic energy. The clue is in the album's paradoxical title. Chilling and even bleak melodies with arrangements daringly and deliberately stripped down and minimal. Revealing a kinship with sonic bed-fellows Mazzy Star, Chelsea Wolfe or even Portishead. Jessica details: These songs have been many years in the making... Some of these ideas were crafted before MWWB, this is something I've always wanted to do. Over the last couple of years, I've spent some time on finishing and crafting these ideas and pieces of music into songs. Some were snippets of lyrics from my early twenties which reflect on what seems like a different person. I think it's quite poetic how it's all come together now. I was also encouraged after finding musicians who understood the vision and style I was trying to achieve, and of course my experience of being in MWWB. I'm a guitarist above all, and I loved reconnecting with guitar again. It feels like all my influences and favourite styles have come together in this album. Shoegaze, doom, folk, dream pop... It's a real mix bag but as a whole, it represents many different stages of my life and tells a story. The album ultimately is quite introspective yet lyrically loose enough to be open to interpretation – I've always been a fan of songs that seem to perfectly slot into the situation I'm experiencing and not too specific to one person's experience... I think that comes across in this album. We spoke to Jessica about the album, about making her vision a reality, being able to actually enjoy a release, working with others in this capacity, growing as a musician and person, and so much more. We have quite a treat today...all the way from Cardiff Wales, it's Jessica Ball, MWWB's singer and guitar player. We talked about growing up in South Africa and moving back to Wales, studying jazz guitar, how the band was formed, how they got such a cheeky name, and dealing with guitar player Paul's serious health issues. We got some dirt on her other band Eye, and listened to a spectacular set of submissions.MWWBhttps://mammothweedwizardbastard.bandcamp.com/https://www.facebook.com/mammothweedwizardbastard/This Week's SubmissionsGRIHASTHAhttps://grihastha.bandcamp.com/track/awakeNYOShttps://nyos.bandcamp.com/album/celebrationAbstractedhttps://abstractedmetal.bandcamp.com/album/atma-confluxE-L-Rhttps://e-l-r.bandcamp.com/Bands! Today's episode opens with a trilogy of tracks involving the incomprable multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Colin Marston. We start with new music from his band Krallice, who just put out a punishing new record of extreme black/death metal. We follow that with some of his work from behind the board with Afterbirth, off their stunning new album Four Dimensional Flesh. Then we'll hear something from Colin's collaboration with the legendary Gorguts off their brilliant comeback album Coloured Sands. Suffocatingly dark and punishing tracks from new albums by Cosmic Putrefaction, Solothis and Ruin Lust will show up to perferoate your eardrums as well. Heavyweights of Canadian thrash Razor, Eudoxis and Infernäl Mäjesty will all make an appearance to get the rivet-heads in the pit moving, alongside a track from terrifying Norwegian thrashers Condor. The second half of the show will feature hard-rocking fuzz grooves from Magic Circle, Dead Quiet and Getaway Van, alongside spacey psychedelic jams from Stonefield, Moths & Locusts and White Hills. We'll also get into some retro true-metal with Sumerlands and Traveler, as well as some planet-smashing doom riffage with Mendozza and Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard. Plus, we'll dig a classic track out of The Graveyard from the almighty Morbid Angel! WWWWWWHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!

DOOMED CINEMA Logan's Run (Redux) This is a new tribute to the psychotronic sci-fi classic Logan's Run (1976), directed by Michael Anderson(1920–2018), who started his career early on with a production of George Orwell's 1984. The futuristic score featured in the film was by Jerry Goldsmith. who just a few years earlier had composed the jarring score to Planet of the Apes (1968). The first version of Doomed & Stoned's tribute to Logan's Run originally aired in June of 2017 (a chapter in the ongoing Doomed Cinema series). It was well received, but I thought overly long (I was anxious to showcase a lot of music I thought tied in well with the film). Also, I ended the story prematurely for some reason. For this redux, I've reworked, remixed, and retooled the content to bolster the narrative, pairing it with a power-packed doom metal and stoner rock selection by Beastmaker, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Space Witch and much more. Hope ya dig! p.s. Patrons got access to the show first! Support the program and get perks like this and more! Visit https://patreon.com/doomedandstoned for details. THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW Season 5, Episode 13 The George Lucas film Star Wars holds a very special place in my memory. It's one of the earliest things I can recall: holding Dad's hand as we waited in a long line that twisted around the two-screen movie theater and around the block in our small Seattle suburb. When screen time arrived, I was absolutely transfixed, perhaps most by the desert scenes on Tatooine. Fast forward to 2019 and I come up with this crazy idea: why not do a doom metal and stoner rock tribute to the film? I think the story works quite nicely without the tidy resolution of the final act, so I'll leave you hanging around the destruction of Alderaan and see how that suits your fancy pants. One more thing: the working title for the film was, 'Adventures Of The Starkiller - Episode I' and the thumbnail is from a portfolio of concept art by Ralph McQuarrie, who painted 21 such portraits in all (including my favorite rendition of Darth Vader). PLAYLIST: INTRO - Luke & Biggs (00:00) 1. Haunt - "Heroes" (00:36) WE'RE DOOMED! (05:11) 2. Candlemass - "Droid" (05:46) FATHER DARKNESS (10:25) 3. Space Metal - "Shroud" (11:08) 4. Steve and Remfry pay tribute to two musicians from polar opposites of the music spectrum this week, after the passing of The Prodigy's Keith Flint and Talk Talk's Mark Hollis. They discuss the impact both musicians had, one who united people across several genres and one who changed the face of modern contemporary music. RIP Keith Flint and Mark Hollis. In happier news, Remfry went to see The Armed again when they hit London to see if his experience was any different to the spaced out experience he had in The Netherlands. (Spoiler, it was even better!) There are also reviews of new albums by Weezer, Holding Absence and Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard and trade off comes courtesy of Joanna Newsom's Divers and Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden.
