Interview by Kris PetersIn any serious conversation about death metal, Vomitory's name is a must-mention. Formed in 1989, the Swedish band unleashed eight blistering albums between 1996 and 2011, cementing their status as genre titans before parting ways in 2013. However, their retirement was short-lived, as they returned to the stage in 2019 to mark their 30th anniversary. Now, three years after the release of their critically acclaimed comeback album All Heads Are Gonna Roll in 2023, Vomitory are back with their latest beast, In Death Throes, due out on April 10.According to drummer Tobias Gustafsson, while the unmistakable Vomitory sound remains, the new album cranks up the intensity. “In Death Throes picks up where All Heads Are Gonna Roll left off, but we've turned the intensity up a notch. Christian (Fredriksson, new guitarist) quickly found his place and even contributed music to four killer tracks. These additions bring a bit of diversity to our sound without straying too far from the formula.”HEAVY sat down with drummer Gustafsson to get the full rundown, asking him to dive deeper into the musical side of the album and what Vomitory were going for this time around."We continued on the same path as we did on our comeback album All Heads Are Going to Roll," he offered. "So we continued writing in the in the same way. Mars, Mercury, Venus, and asteroid Pallas Athene are out of bounds all week. Also, Venus and Mercury are opposite Mars in mutable signs, and they're all squaring Neptune! Will we hear wild news from the World Cup? Also, the Sun is parallel asteroid Aesculapia (associated with physicians and healing) – hopefully, we won't hear news of an injury! Venus is conjunct asteroid Hygeia (public hygiene, preserver of health).   07:12 – Second, Jupiter. Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius and is in its other home sign right now, Pisces. The biggest planet rules abundance and protects us from asteroids (thus, it is known as a protector). Jupiter makes everything bigger – good and bad. It rules law, morality, ethics, and philosophy. It's known for its big ideas and is associated with systems of belief, reckless behavior, and overindulgence. On the shadow side, it can be moralizing – like a know-it-all. It magnifies things. Mercury and Venus will square Jupiter this week. Mercury can show massive dexterity (like gymnast energy). Take time to enjoy cleverly woven stories and humor. Venus in Sagittarius squaring Jupiter in Pisces can bring excessive flattery, people waxing philosophical about love, overspending, and daredevil stuff (like bungee jumping). Look back to the solar eclipse from June 10, 2021, and the First Quarter Moon from March 10, 2022, for stories and themes that connect in your life.
