Dear Listeners, welcome to Season 1 Episode 4 of Panosophers' Podcast. May we express our gratitude for your ongoing support and attention to this venture. This week, we have the company of Mark Stavish. Mark is the founder and director of The Institute for Hermetic Studies (IHS). Mark holds degrees in Theology, Communications and Counseling. He is a prolific author of depth titles on Mystery subjects, centered on Western Kabbalistic knowledge. Mark is a longtime friend of our sibling podcast, Thoth-Hermes, and a trove of additional prior conversations may be found there. The overarching theme of the next two hours centers on: “what can you handle?” It is plainspoken and direct, while brotherly and benevolent. We encourage you to listen with ears open to hear. Mark and Rudolf dive in with the starting context for the IHS: 1990s, East-Coast America. A time of in-person groups, Gnosis Magazine, and the grit of self-publishing material perhaps too deep for the balance sheets of popular booksellers. Mark shares stark realities of rejection and adaptation for the sake of creating inheritance to future Seekers- rather than status or income streams. With his characteristic energy, Mark challenges listeners throughout the dialogue. He names the essential need for Initiates to handle stark reality, including worldviews not their own, beyond personal identity and ideology. In doing so, he identifies the need to produce a life-giving vision of the future, least populations be drawn into that which appears to be but is not. As Mark states, this has little to do with who one wants to see elected US President in “the next election”. It is this call to Depth that sees Mark and Rudolf explore essential questions: What is ‘tradition' and why is it a responsibility? What is ‘initiation' and the mindset of a true Initiate? How does ‘virtue' relate to potency? Mark issues the Saturnian challenge to grow past “Tik-Tok clutter” and “podcasting, publishing, and product” marketplace of Occultism. He names the Aquarian postwar Esoteric awakening as a response to mass trauma, “most vibrant when truly counter-cultural” and small-group relational. Along the way, even the esoteric Christ is alluded to warmly. Turning to ethics around public divination of societal energies, Rudolf and Mark note the need for maturity in any Initiate claiming to do this. The qualifications include a true education in all of politics, history and economics- imbuing a nuance which returns to Tradition. May this bring a cornucopia of fruit for all of us. My special guest is Mark Stavish who's here to discuss his book that explores the history and influence of egregores, powerful autonomous psychic entities created by a collective group mind. Get this book now from Amazon.About:• Examines the history of egregores from ancient times to present day, including their role in Western Mystery traditions and popular culture and media • Reveals documented examples of egregores from ancient Greece and Rome, Tibetan Buddhism, Islam, modern esoteric orders, the writings of H. P. Lovecraft and Kenneth Grant, and the followers of Julius Evola and Aleister Crowley • Provides instructions on how to identify egregores, free yourself from parasitic and destructive entities, and destroy an egregore, should the need arise One of most important but little known concepts of Western occultism is that of the egregore, an autonomous psychic entity created by a collective group mind. An egregore is sustained by belief, ritual, and sacrifice and relies upon the devotion of a group of people, from a small coven to an entire nation, for its existence. An egregore that receives enough sustenance can take on a life of its own, becoming an independent deity with powers its believers can use to further their own spiritual advancement and material desires. In this episode, we were joined by Mark Stavish, the Director of the Institute for Hermetic Studies for a great conversation across a myriad of topics. Mark gave us a few predictions for 2024 along with his no-holds-barred thoughts regarding the state of the esoteric today, and the importance of finding yourself as well as a group of like-minded practitioners. As a rule, we do not edit our podcast episodes. They are recorded as a live session with no script. Our episodes are always a showcase of free-flowing conversation and the guest's opinions are their own as they are entitled to be. We all must learn to work together and that includes working with others whose opinions do not always align. This was a large part of the conversation in that we are too often separated from others because they do not match our personal criteria for acceptance or even listening. How much we miss by making knee-jerk, emotional decisions because someone didn't use the 'right' words or feel like we do. We are fortunate to have someone of Mark's caliber in our midst and his exceptionally thorough knowledge combines perfectly with his ability to explain complex topics simply; it is truly a blessing, especially for those dipping their toe into the very deep pool of the esoteric.
Few figures in modern occultism have garnered as much admiration - and vitriol - as Dr. Joseph Charles Lisiewski. Born in the coal mining regions of Central Pennsylvania, Lisiewski came of age as religious orthodoxy was waning, but before the world of the 'Counter Culture Movement' had fully come full-term. After a terrifying magical evocation at the age of 17, he quickly found himself involved with two of the greatest occultists of the Twentieth Century – Israel Regardie and Frater Albertus. Having worked with both men for years, he detailed his unique relationship with them in – Israel Regardie and the Philosopher's Stone (2008). Having myself worked with Lisiewski, I tell the story of our decade- long friendship, the magical and alchemical projects we worked on together, the truth behind his academic claims, and details of the final ritual I performed for him: an exorcism for a ritual that went bad, and for which he claimed would ultimately take his life. A must book for anyone interested in one of best known, and least understood, figures of modern occultism.

In this episode, we interviewed our favorite curmudgeon & expert on Hermetic practice, ceremonial magic, powwow, and the esoteric world in general. Mark is the founder and director of the Institute for Hermetic Studies based in nearby Wyoming, PA, and is the author of a multitude of excellent esoteric works. In addition to writing, he is a highly sought-after national speaker in regard to all things esoteric, occult, and quite frankly intellectual. We consider ourselves very fortunate, to both be local to him; as well as for him to take the time to come in at Zero Dark Thirty in the morning to speak with us. Mark does so much for this community and we are thrilled to present this interview. We hope you all have just as much of a good time listening as we had when we recorded it. In this episode Rajule the first talks about the duality of feminine and masculine energy. Rajule the first says that everything is feminine and masculine. Often, we focus on the supreme father, and we cannot have one without the other. Which is whyit's important to talk about the supreme mother and not only focus on the supreme father. Mark Stavish book “The Path of Freemasonry: The Craft as a Spiritual Practice” says the supreme feminine is the seed of wisdom, and the word is her offspring. The power of creation is found in wisdom,” the divine feminine. Mark Stavish is back on the Thoth Hermes Podcast! And when you have someone like him to talk to, you choose subjects that need clarification, a structured mind and above all, a great knowledge of the field we all like: occultism, hermetism and the Western Traditions. Dualism and especially Non-Dualism have been terms that have found a lot of attention especially during the last 15 years or so. But how does Non-Dualism work in a hermetic and magical context, where duality seems to be the foundation of the material life. What is the difference between duality and dualism. What is the difference between a Gnostic dualism and the Hermetic approach? And why is Traditionalism or Perennialism, as it is often called (is it the same, actually?) also being sometimes under attack. In his very frank and outspoken way Mark will try to give answers to those questions, not without posing others. A highly interesting and educational talk! One of most important but little known concepts of Western occultism is that of the egregore, an autonomous psychic entity created by a collective group mind. Presenting the first book devoted to the study of egregores, Mark Stavish examines the history of egregores from ancient times to present day, with detailed and documented examples, and explores how they are created, sustained, directed, and destroyed. He explains how egregores were well known in the classical period of ancient Greece and Rome, when they were consciously called into being to watch over city states. He explores the egregore concept as it was understood in various Western Mystery traditions, including the Corpus Hermeticum, and offers further examples from Tibetan Buddhism, Islam, modern esoteric orders such as the Order of the Golden Dawn and Rosicrucianism, the writings of H. P. Lovecraft and Kenneth Grant, and the followers of Julius Evola and Aleister Crowley. The author discusses how, even as the fundamental principles of the egregore were forgotten, egregores continue to be formed, sometimes by accident. Stavish provides instructions on how to identify egregores, free yourself from a parasitic and destructive collective entity, and destroy an egregore, should the need arise. Revealing how egregores form the foundation of nearly all human interactions, the author shows how egregores have moved into popular culture and media - underscoring the importance of intense selectivity in the information we accept and the ways we perceive the world and our place in it.

ONLY SHORT INTROS FOR THIS AND THE COMING TWO EPISODES Welcome back to Mark Stavish, the Director of the Institute for Hermetic Studies, where Rudolf and he discuss the not always easay way how to enter the world of the Western Tradition. This starts by how you want to name what you are looking for. Esotericism? Spirituality? Occultism? Or something else? But this is only the start, of course. Has it become easier in the Internet age to find your path, the right approach to it, or more difficult? What are the chances, what are the traps? These and many other questions lead to the clear conclusion: you will need discipline, whatever your approach or your path is going to be. If this now sounds to you like an episode for the beginner, then you might be wrong. It is certainly is thought to help the searcher, but with Mark's huge knowledge and personal experience also the seasoned esotericist will find points to think about, to discuss, to develop. Books by Mark Stavish Link to The Institute for Hermetic Studies The Philosophers of Nature Website Books by Roberto Assagioli (mentioned by Mark Stavish in the interview) Books by Piero Ferruci (mentioned by Mark Stavish in the interview) Music played in this episode 1) BLURRED - Kiasmos “In the vast ocean of nirvana every microsecond a universe pops up as so one fades away, it's omnifying how this creation & destruction plays in such a harmony.” (Track starts at 6:22) 2) TIME AND SPACE - The Cinematic Orchestra "One swing set, well worn but structurally sound, seeks new home. Make memories with your kid or kids so that someday he or she or they will look into the backyard and feel the ache of sentimentality as desperately as I did this afternoon. It's all fragile and fleeting, dear reader, but with this swing set, your child(ren) will be introduced to the ups and downs of human life gently and safely, and may also learn the most important lesson of all: No matter how hard you kick, no matter how high you get, you can't go all the way around.” (Track starts at 53:05) 3) TRANSMISSION 94 - Bonobo "There were no witnesses to what was about to happen. 'Happen' didn't yet exist. Reality was timeless. Space also didn't exist. The distance between two points was immeasurable. The points themselves could be anywhere, hovering and bouncing. Infinity tangled into itself. There was no here and now. Only Being.” (Track starts at 1:42:12) Intro and Outro Musicespecially written and recorded for the Thoth-Hermes Podcast by Chris Roberts
Mark Stavish talking about Egregores: The Occult Entities That Watch Over Human Destiny, Inner Traditions, 2018 One of most important but little known concepts of Western occultism is that of the egregore, an autonomous psychic entity created by a collective group mind. He explores the egregore concept as it was understood in various Western Mystery traditions, with examples from Tibetan Buddhism, Islam, modern esoteric orders such as the Order of the Golden Dawn and Rosicrucianism. Stavish provides instructions on how to identify egregores, free yourself from a parasitic and destructive collective entity, and destroy an egregore, should the need arise. Revealing how egregores form the foundation of nearly all human interactions, the author shows how egregores have moved into popular culture and media--underscoring the importance of intense selectivity in the information we accept and the ways we perceive the world and our place in it. Hosted by Dr. Bob Hieronimus. Produced by Hieronimus & Co. for 21st Century Radio®. Edited version provided to Nightlight Radio with permission.

This week we delve into the mother (or brother) of all secret societies, the Freemasons. Although the majority of the society does not accept, or – as we find out – does not even know their esoteric roots, Author Mark Stavish is back to guide us down this fraternal maze, drawing from his great book ‘The Path of Freemasonary'. This week we discuss The esoteric roots of Freemasonry, why conspiracy theorists have such a boner for the society, some of the groups more influential esotericists, and much more. Joining me in SittingNow Inner-order is Mark Satyr Main theme by Simon Smerdon (Mothboy) Music bed by chriszabriskie.com Check out Mark's book ‘The Path of Freemasonry' published by Inner Traditions. Mark Stavish Biography: Mark Stavish, the Director of Studies for the Institute for Hermetic Studies, is a life-long student of esotericism with over 25 years experience in comparative religion, philosophy, psychology, and mysticism with emphasis on Traditional Western Esotericism. His articles have appeared in academic, specialty, and mass market publications specializing in spiritual studies, making Mark one of the leading authorities in Hermeticism today. In addition to being a member and officer of several prominent Rosicrucian and Martinist societies, Mark served as the Director of Research for the Occult Research and Applications Project, of the Philosophers of Nature (PON). The Philosophers of Nature was founded by Jean Dubuis in France in 1979 and for twenty years was the leading resource for practical information on mineral and plant alchemy, as well as qabala. ORA, a statistically based research wing of the American branch of PON performed detailed exploration into the validity and practicality of various traditional esoteric methods. Original research from the ORA Project was published in the organization's journal, The Stone. A graduate of King's College, in Theology (B.A.), and Communications (B.A.), and Rhode Island College (Providence), with a Master's degree in Counseling emphasizing psycho-spiritual modalities and Psychosynthesis, Mark brings a unique blend of tradition with modern research to the application of esoteric philosophy. Professionally, Mark has over 15 years experience in the social service and non-profit fields, and has trained hundreds of social service workers, law enforcement personnel, and mental healthcare providers in areas related to New and Emerging Religions. Mark's writings have been translated into Turkish, Dutch, French, Swedish, and Portuguese; he has been a media consultant on for BBC Channel 2, and Cinnabar Productions' documentary, ‘The Occult Reich' for A&E/History Channel, along with numerous media interviews and editorials.
Mark Stavish knows his Masonic history, and in this searching interview, he takes us deep into some of its most hidden recesses. There is a resurgence of Masonry as a spiritual practice and a quest for self-realization, and in this interview Whitley's own profound esoteric understanding intersects with Mark's deep knowledge in what turns into a enlightening, and finally riveting, exploration of lost secrets and how they are finally re-emerging into the modern Masonic movement. What is Masonry? Why, as it is devoted to doing good, is it looked upon with such suspicion by so many? Where did it come from and, more importantly, where is it going right now? Is there a place in it for the spiritual searcher, or is it primarily a social and charitable organization? All of these questions and more are covered here. Some of the deeper ones: What is the significance of the three gifts of the Magi, and who was Hermes Trismigistus? What is the connection between Masonry and the Knights Templar, and what was the real secret that they brought out of the Islamic world to Christendom?Get set for a wonderful adventure of soul and mind.

Episode Notes Well, what a show. We spoke with Wolfe, a student of the occult and the late great Joseph Lisiewski. Wolfe got in contact with me after hearing my episode with Mark Stavish. Wolfe wanted to set the record straight regarding a few things, and offer his own insights on Joe and on the magical path, as Joe set it out. While it is reccomended maybe to listen to the episode Mark Stavish did on Joe Lisiewski, it is not necessary. We talk Joe, Evocation of Spirits to Physical Manifestation and the use of Grimoires in theurgy, or otherwise, Laboratory Alchemy, and much more. Wolfe was a spirited chap with a great laugh and a passion for his path, and some of the stories presented here are equal parts terrifying and enlightening. Shedding some light on a path that almost no one in the world can, or has the will to practice anymore. In this practical guide, Mark Stavish details the spiritual lessons and rituals of Freemasonry as a step-by-step path of spiritual development and self-improvement for both Masons and non-Masons, men and women, alike. He explores the history and meaning of Freemasonry and its symbols--from its origins in the Temple of Solomon to the Medieval craft guilds to the Renaissance--and explains how the Craft promotes personal growth through the symbolic building of self and an inner Temple of Wisdom in much the same way that Masonry's rituals symbolize the building of Solomon's Temple in accordance with the mystical architectural instructions of Hiram. Drawing on esoteric doctrines, including the Qabala, alchemy, sacred geometry, John Dee's angelic magic, and the secrets of the Gothic cathedral builders, each chapter addresses an area of the Masonic experience, paralleling them with experiences each of us finds in our own lives. The author provides simple practices to help internalize and personalize the lessons presented, including dreamwork, journaling, meditation, prayer, and understanding sacred architecture. The author also examines the crafting and use of the spiritual and symbolic tools of Freemasonry, such as the trestle or tracing board and the Chamber of Reflection. Providing the tools to make the Craft an initiatic experience of self-improvement, the author shows that, ultimately, the Masonic experience is the human quest for self-realization and self-expression, so that we each may find our place in the Temple of Wisdom. Mark Stavish is a respected authority on Western spiritual traditions. He is the founder and director of the Institute for Hermetic Studies and the Louis Claude de St. Martin Fund. He has appeared on radio shows, television, and in major print media, including Coast to Coast AM, the History Channel, BBC, and the New York Times. The author of the blog VOXHERMES,

My special guest tonight is Mark Stavish who's here to discuss his book about occult entities that watch over human destiny. Get his book. The first book to explore the history and influence of egregores, powerful autonomous psychic entities created by a collective group mind • Examines the history of egregores from ancient times to present day, including their role in Western Mystery traditions and popular culture and media • Reveals documented examples of egregores from ancient Greece and Rome, Tibetan Buddhism, Islam, modern esoteric orders, the writings of H.
