In this episode, Sharon is joined by Dr. Donald Ingber, Founding Director at Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. Dr. Ingber's commitment to following his passion has led him to countless medical and technological breakthroughs, including organ-chip technology. These incredible chips recreate the structure and function of human organs. Drugs can be administered through organ-chips so that blood impact can be monitored. Once more widely adopted, organ-chip testing will be able to replace animal testing. As Dr. Ingber shares, the results will surpass those of animal testing. The organ-chip technology already includes women's health models and holds great promise to revolutionize this under-invested area. Because animals, namely mice, do not have menstrual cycles, their biological environments are already skewed to test any women's health-related projects. Organ-chips are a great solution to close the data gap. Dr. Ingber shares two projects underway in partnership with the Gates Foundation: to create a cure for bacterial vaginosis and to create a non-hormonal contraceptive. Dr. Ingber highlights the importance of nurturing the business side of scientific breakthroughs so that innovations can reach patients. Twenty percent of Harvard's intellectual property comes out of the Wyss Institute, and both funding and mentorship play crucial roles in that success metric. We all want to be in flow with life. You know what I mean, it's that feeling when… ~ life seems to be working with you instead of against you ~ things happen with ease ~ it all kind of magically jives and feels like very little efforting and no pushing against ~ you feel resourced and capable of what's on your plate ~ life feels enjoyable and you feel present for it ~ people want to be around you and think to themselves “I'll have what she's having” Every coach and guru has a specific prescription for how to get into flow with life. Much of it is really good stuff. —> What gets confusing is that the prescription of do's and don'ts to get you into flow are specific to our exact circumstances! In the United States the months of November and December are very busy with holiday celebrations. So I decided to try something new this year. Almost all of 2023 I asked the guests that were interviewed on A Quilter's Life to share something they were thankful for. Since this was also new for me, I did forget to ask a few of the guests and for that I'm sorry. I do realize that some other countries have celebrated Thanksgiving already, but I decided to share these Thankful Notes throughout the month of November. I thought it would be fun if you wanted to play along as you listen and see if you remember each guest. I have so enjoyed listening to what they are Thankful for. I have the list of guests along with links to contact them on the episode page (also known as show notes) for this episode if you want more information about them. Along with their links there is also a link to their episode if you missed their story. The first couple guests I asked them what they were thankful for, but after that I had them introduce themselves. So the first Thankful Note is from Tânia Mogari of Tânia Mogari Quilter. The second Thankful Note is from Lori DeJarnatt of Humble Quilts. I want to thank each of you that shared what you are thankful for. This was so much fun to include in the interview process. Criticism is everywhere today, where people often share their opinions of other people very easily despite not knowing the person, online using social media. The criticism often goes too far, especially in a sporting context, when so much emotion is evident. Throw in general criticism on the side of a pitch from spectators, and negative feedback from coaches and team-mates. It really can be tough being involved in sport with no hiding place. You'll find some athletes and coaches brush off criticism, others though can find it very difficult to deal with. It can impact their well-being and relationships with other people. Sometimes they'll respond angrily or in an aggressive manner, in other cases they'll be overcome with sadness and get very upset. The key is to take the learning, from criticism, which isn't easy and is the focus of this bitesize episode, with Professor Paul McGee, one of Europe's leading speakers and a respected author. He shares some great stories and ideas to help you. Feel free to tune in! Key Learning Points: A bad game doesn't mean that you are a bad person. Recognise if you become defensive in the face of criticism. Acknowledge if your inner dialogue is overly critical and learn to be kinder to yourself. Perspective is vital. Hey loves! In today's episode, I'm joined by the wonderful Puja Shah. "When you follow your dharma, everything falls into place. So it was like all of this was leading me to something that I knew and I just had to listen to it." Puja Shah is the former-dentist-turned-award-winning author of the powerful fiction novel, "For My Sister", which is a story about two sisters unknowingly trafficked and their journey to reunite. Puja had a passion for writing that she discovered at a young age, but had to put it aside due to life's obligations. After discovering her true dharma, she left her job and chose to pursue her passion full-time. Through the process of writing her fiction novel, she learned the power of words and the importance of self-expression and sisterhood. Puja was determined to use her voice and her writing to change the narrative of, and bring awareness to, the issues and struggles of underrepresented voices. She has since been able to turn her passion into a successful career. In today's episode, we talk about: Writing Fiction and the Power of Voice Pursuing Passions Despite a Demanding Career Following Your Dharma and Making a Career Transition Career Transitions and the Double Standard for Women Taking a Gamble on Creative Work Exploring the Issues of Child Marriage and Colorism in Trafficked Girls The Impact of Writing and Sharing Stories Living in Authenticity and Being Brave in This Stage of Life Connect with Puja: - Find Puja on Instagram @psnamaste - Visit her website at https://puja-shah.com/ - Check out Puja's book, For my Sister, here! In this episode Bishop Tim and Dr. John discuss a very important theological term--"Hypostatic Union." This is the mystery of Christ being fully God and fully human at the same time--the union of two natures. Is this an important term for us to understand? How does this union of two natures impact my life and walk? If I don't grasp this truth, what false teachings am I susceptible to adopting? Galatians 2:20 (NIV) says, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." I have been united to His humanity. To be united with Christ in our human nature means that we are connected to Him in His divine nature. The divine nature is penetrating us and transforming us. The Hypostatic Union is the way that we are being transformed into the fullness of what God created us to be in His image. It is the basis for sanctification; it is what makes holiness possible; it is what allows us to walk in faithfulness and obedience. This is all possible because of the "Hypostatic Union" of Christ. Wow! One of the best interviews of 2021 with Jamar Jones. We talk about everything from the Milwaukee Bucks, Fear, keys to success, and yes we go deep on his new book Change Your Circle Change Your Life. Jamar's key takeaways: You can't do it all by yourself. Prioritize every day. It's ok to leave a circle. 3 ingredients of self-awareness. A bit more about Jamar Jones: My path has been nothing but easy. From my decision-making and the search of finding myself, I've had many hardships in my life that I've overcome. I've created many things from just a thought and once I put my mind to something there's nothing that can stop me. Anything's possible. Looking back I've learned that there were elements to my success, one of the main ones was the circle I was in and how to get into other circles. I've applied this methodology play my personal life and in business. Also, I am the owner of a communications agency that focuses on branding sales and marketing. I have built this company from the ground up and want to share my tactics philosophies and business growth with organizations leaders and decision-makers. Why do I do it? Because when I needed a helping hand others were there for me and the circle that I was able to create molded the very success that I have today.
