För en tid sedan besökte jag Aten för första gången. Det visade sig vara omöjligt att befinna sig där utan att förhålla sig till Akropolis, den klippa i centrala Aten där Parthenon, templet som tillägnades gudinnan Athena, Atens beskyddare, tronar allra högst. Vart man än vänder sig i staden är templet och de andra ruinerna synliga, något som förstärks om kvällen då mörkret lägger sig över bebyggelsen men inte över Akropolis som lyses upp av enorma strålkastare.Egentligen var jag där för att gå på konferens, men tanken på att åka hem från Aten utan att ha bestigit den där klippan var otänkbar. Eftersom det var mycket varmt gick jag en morgon upp extra tidigt och promenerade uppåt genom stadens gränder. Utanför ingången till tempelområdet var det redan fullt av människor trots att klockan ännu inte slagit åtta. När grindarna öppnade vallfärdade jag tillsammans med de andra uppåt längs slingrande stigar, andäktig.Och så, på den södra sidan av klippan, i en dal nedanför, bredde Dionysosteatern ut sig. Åsynen av den fick det att svindla i mig. Där hade, för mer än två tusen år sedan, människor samlats för att bevittna uppföranden av de tragedier som nu är en helt självklar del av vår kultur. Dramer, myter och karaktärer som vi alla refererar och förhåller oss till, ibland utan att vi ens är medvetna om det.Men när vi ser en modern uppsättning av dessa klassiker är det ofta en ofullständig rest. Tragedierna var från början mer eller mindre sammanhängande trilogier, och bara en har överlevt med alla delar intakta – Aischylos ”Orestien” från 458 före Kristus. Det är berättelsen om kung Agamemnon som offrar sin dotter Ifigenia för att kunna segla och kriga mot Troja, men som vid hemvändandet möts av hustrun Klytaimnestras mödravrede och hämnd. Den blodiga familjekonflikten trappas upp av att Orestes, sonen, i sin tur hämnas mordet på fadern genom att döda sin mor.I den sista delen av trilogin jagas han av Erinnyerna, hämndgudinnorna som i allmänt tal är mer kända under sitt romerska namn, Furierna. Men dramat tar en annan vändning när Athena kliver in och ställer Orestes inför en jurydomstol, i vilken han frikänns. De fruktade hämndgudinnorna förlorar sin rättskipande makt och blidkas genom att Athena utnämner dem till stadens skyddsgudinnor.Det är en episk berättelse om hämnd och rättvisa, och den brukar tolkas som en gestaltning av civilisationens triumf, av övergången från blodshämnd till ett rättskipande system. Men är det hela sanningen?Den amerikanska professorn i klassiska studier, Emily Wilson, menar att vad Orestien mer än något annat handlar om är kvinnlig vrede och förlust. Till skillnad från många andra läser hon inte dramat som en triumf för ett mer civiliserat rättssystem, utan som en berättelse om hur det manliga politiska systemet förtrycker det kvinnliga. Genom att pacificera Furierna pacificeras också den kvinnliga vreden.Finns det en särskild kvinnlig vrede, och en specifikt kvinnlig hämnd? Den frågan har jag grubblat över ett tag nu. Egentligen tror jag ju inte att kön har så mycket med saken att göra. Varför skulle kvinnors ilska över oförrätter vara annorlunda än mäns? På samma sätt är det svårt att förstå varför kvinnors hämndlystnad skulle vara väsensskild.Men skälen till att vreden börjar koka, de händelser som väcker hämndlystenheten, de tycks mig ibland vara specifika. Och ofta, såväl i litteraturen som i verkligheten, vara förknippad med patriarkalt våld – mot kvinnorna och deras barn. För rättskipande system som bygger på argumentation istället för våld i all ära, men när systemet inte ger de utsatta upprättelse, vad gör man då?Den amerikanska journalisten Elizabeth Flock tar sig an den frågan i sin bok betitlad just ”The furies” – Furierna. Hon följer tre kvinnor som alla tagit saken i egna händer. En av dem är Brittany i USA, som under en natt utsätts för grov våldtäkt och till sist dödar sin förövare i vad hon menar är självförsvar. Här finns också Angoori i Indien, en kastlös kvinna som får hus och mark konfiskerade och startar ett kvinnoseparatistiskt gäng med syfte att hjälpa andra utsatta. Och vi har Cicek i den kurdiska delen av Syrien, som tar till vapen och ansluter sig till YPG och kampen för ett fritt Kurdistan.Gemensamt för berättelserna är hur samhällssystemen brustit både när det kommer till skydd mot våld och möjligheten till upprättelse. De tre kvinnornas våldsamma motstånd är rakt igenom intimt sammantvinnat med mäns våld och patriarkalt förtryck. Det är stundtals omöjligt att skilja trådarna som spinner fram ett offer från de som spinner fram en förövare.Där Brittany ställs inför rätta för mordet på sin förövare, liksom i ett flertal av amerikanska stater, finns en lagstiftning som tillåter våldsamt, också dödligt, motstånd om du blir attackerad. För kvinnor i Brittanys situation hjälper den dock föga. Lagen stammar från 1800-talet med ett ursprungligt syfte att tillåta män skydda sin egendom, i vilken kvinnor och barn vid den tiden ingick. Inte heller dagens lagstiftning är utformad för att omfatta den verklighet som Brittany delar med alltför många kvinnor. Amerikanska forskare pekar på hur lagen är skapad utifrån ett manligt perspektiv med fokus på hot utifrån medan den ignorerar våld i hemmet, vilket kvinnor oftare utsätts för. Med ens är det som att vi är tillbaka vid Dionysosteatern, där det manliga politiska systemet vann och den kvinnliga vreden tystades.Det är talande att Athena, som i Aischylos drama har utslagsrösten, inte hänvisar till neutralitet eller det allmänna bästa när hon friar Orestes, utan till att hon är född ur Zeus huvud, och inte av en mor, sätter mannens rätt framför kvinnans.Men gör vi rätt att som Elizabeth Flock använda epitetet furier för dagens kvinnor som, när samhällets system brister, möter förtryck med våld? Utifrån en traditionell tolkning av Aischylos drama innebär epitetet att deras vrede och försök till upprättelse blir något förhistoriskt och förlegat, ett agerande som med förnuftig blick kan avfärdas som barbariskt. Kanske är frågan felställd. För inte är det i första hand kvinnornas strategier för upprättelse som bör tolkas som barbariska, utan det systematiska våld de utsätts för, av såväl enskilda individer som samhällssystem?Parallellt med att jag läser Orestien arbetar jag med ett intervjumaterial med unga kvinnor i och omkring den så kallade gängmiljön. Utsattheten är så omfattande att det stundtals är svårt att andas, samtidigt som gränsdragningarna mellan offer och förövare ibland är helt utsuddade. De unga kvinnornas berättelser är fulla av sexuellt våld, men få berättar om hjälp till upprättelse. Några har istället tagit saken i egna händer. Givetvis är det ingenting att uppmuntra, men där jag sitter med flödet av berättelser om våldsutsatthet är det omöjligt att fördöma.Så länge de rättskipande systemen inte klarar av att ge kvinnor som utsätts för barbariskt våld, just för att de är kvinnor, skydd och upprättelse hoppas jag att furierna stannar. Inte för att legitimera våldsam hämnd, men som en garant för att kvinnors rättmätiga vrede får ta plats. A dnes je samozřejmě zpěvákem. Celý dospělý život pracuje v pražském klubu Palác Akropolis, ale léta už tam nebyl na koncertě: „Každý víkend jsem na těch vlastních.“ Do podcastu Host Reportéra zavítal Martin Zeller, jehož kapela Cocotte Minute se chystá na největší koncert ve své pětadvacetileté historii.Rozhovor je od počátku ovlivněný zjištěním, že jsou host i moderátor úplně stejně staří, brzy oslaví osmačtyřicátiny. Vzpomínají například na dětství za socialismu nebo na konflikty s agresivními skinheady v devadesátých letech. Skvělý vypravěč Martin Zeller popisuje vůbec nejstarší zážitek, který si dokáže vybavit: „Jednou jsem skočil šipku do nehašeného vápna, které jsem si pak pro jistotu ještě napatlal do očí.“Naprosto smířeně popisuje dětství s toxickým otcem, který propil velký majetek a zemřel jako bezdomovec: „Možná proto hraju naštvanej metal,“ směje se Martin, „abych se z toho vyřval.“Pochvaluje si, že nevystudoval žádnou uměleckou školu, nýbrž normální střední ekonomku. „Sice horko těžko, protože jsem už propadl muzice, ale ve výsledku se mi to do života hodí. Kapela je vlastně firma a já ji dovedu řídit.“Podrobně popisuje, jakým stylem přežít dnešní období soumraku českých hudebních klubů, a zve do velkého sálu pražské Lucerny, kde kapela Cocotte Minute vystoupí 13. prosince: „Ale pozor, zbývá už jen posledních pár desítek lístků.“

Chci být inženýrkou přes holuby, jsou to skvělí, chytří a čistotní ptáci, plánuje zpěvačka Athena Chlebová„Proboha,“ děsí se už v průběhu povídání, „co jsem to dnes všechno nažvanila?“ Mladá rapující zpěvačka Athena Chlebová se stává po čtvrtém vydaném albu jménem Vodsrdce čím dál populárnější postavou na české klubové scéně, z čehož vyplývají nové situace, mimo jiné pozvání do podcastu Host Reportéra.Výsledkem je velmi upřímný a veselý rozhovor, který přinejmenším moderátorovi vylepšil den. Athena například nevědomky demonstruje, jak nečekaně se dnes může stát šikovný člověk hudebníkem. „Od dětství do sedmnácti jsem si myslela spíš na herectví,“ přiznává, „což vyvrcholilo rolí v televizním pořadu Policie v akci. Hrála jsem tam unesenou dceru, ale hned v tu chvíli mi došlo, že tudy cesta nepovede. Je ostuda,“ směje se, „že to vůbec odvysílali.“V sedmnácti začala nadšeně poslouchat rap a po první velké (krátké, ale dramatické) lásce se rozhodla svěřovat emoce nejen soukromému deníku, ale taky mikrofonu. „Ne snad, že bych v sobě cítila kdovíjaké vlohy,“ připouští, „ale kamarád z gymplu měl doma v pokojíčku nahrávací zařízení, tak jsem zkoušela skládat slova do beatů. Nahráli jsme první píseň a takhle nečekaně a organicky to vzniklo.“Na střední uměleckou školu se nedostala, na vysokou taky ne, a tak začala studovat ekologii. Brzy si našla zvláštní velké téma, totiž holuby. „Udělala jsem o nich bakalářku, teď jim chci věnovat i diplomku.“V podcastu vzpomíná na dětství, kdy jí někteří nerudnější dospělí říkali, ať holuby nekrmí, což vůbec nechápala. „Celý život to mám tak, že když mi někdo připadá utlačovaný, začnu ho mít dvojnásob ráda. Holub je tvor inteligentní, čistotný a trpí tím, že ho člověk nejdřív zdomestikoval a pak odšoupl.“Athena se ani po čtyřech deskách nepovažuje za zpěvačku na plný úvazek. „A ani o tom nijak zvlášť nesním. Líbí se mi naopak představa, že si budu od hudby odskakovat k holubům a nazpátek. A do toho se snad ještě zvládnu věnovat kafi, své další vášni,“ říká s tím, že si v Praze přivydělává v jedné oblíbené kavárně.Nejbližší příležitost poslechnout si Athenu Chlebovou naživo bude v úterý 25. listopadu, kdy vystoupí coby důležitý host na křtu alba projektu Matyášovi kamarádi v Paláci Akropolis.

Akropolis will perform at Howland Cultural Center After meeting at the University of Michigan, five classically trained musicians formed an unusual ensemble and called themselves the Akropolis Reed Quintet. They will perform on Sunday (Nov. 2) at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon as part of the Howland Chamber Music Circle series. Founded in 2009, Akropolis is one of the country's first reed quintets. As the group's star began rising, the clarinetist and saxophonist married and it became a nonprofit to apply for grants and expand educational outreach. Earlier this year, Akropolis won a Grammy for best instrumental composition, singling out the song "Strands." Written by pianist and collaborator Pascal La Beouf, the song fuses jazz and classical. Drummer Christian Euman is all smiles in a video made during the recording session. The title is apt because the reed instruments reel off call-and-response passages during the beginning and end, weaving the snippets together. During an interlude, the piano drifts off to dreamland before the players build back into a heavy progressive rock-style tsunami of sound that pulls the plug abruptly. Most wind quintets include flute and French horn, along with oboe, clarinet and bassoon. The repertoire for this grouping stretches to the late 18th century. Akropolis is different because, in addition to two instruments with long jazz pedigrees (sax and clarinet), it includes an oboe, bassoon and bass clarinet, which adds heft at the low end. Clarinet player Kari Landry credits the 40-year-old Calefax Reed Quintet from the Netherlands for creating the format and nurturing it through commissions and rearrangements of existing works. "They're our mentors," says Landry. "We're trying to expand the wind-based color palette and classical music in any way we can." Except for jazzy touches in George Gershwin's symphonic composition "An American in Paris" (arranged by Raaf Hekkema of Calefax), other selections being performed on Sunday will skew toward classical with world influences. "These few specks of time," by Oswald Huynh (born 1997), presents a "flashy opening that then pulls from his Vietnamese heritage, working in a folk song with stunning compositional technique," says Landry. The quintet will also perform "A Soulful Nexus," by Derrick Skye (born 1982), who is "coming up on some fame, uses the Persian classical scale system and adds percussive, fun elements," she says. The group's website is awash in pink, "a visual representation of how we stand out," says Landry. "We use that colorful joy and energy to show that we're not about presenting scary, esoteric or off-putting new music." Akropolis has commissioned more than 200 works. Its members are in their mid-30s, and Landry foresees a bright future for the configuration. "There are now hundreds of us - it's a big network," she says. "Other people are creating more music because it's a niche within chamber music, but we hope that in 100 years this instrumentation becomes commonplace, like the string quartet." Jako by z ničeho nic tam zazní vzpomínka, v níž ho coby jedenáctiletého brýlatého zrzka z České Lípy napadli spolužáci: „Jako když tě starší kluci nutili, ať skočíš ze železničního mostu do kalný špinavý řeky, jako když ti chtěli zapálit ruku politou petrolejem, ale jenom trošku, jaks je prosil, ať tě nechaj bejt a jak ses brodil blátem v novejch botách, jaks brečel ponížením a studem...“Jakub König vypráví, že se mu ten obraz ostře vynořil při holotropním dýchání, jemuž se už léta intenzivně věnuje.„Při dýchání mi taky došlo,“ vypráví, „že jsem v tom tehdy byl velmi sám. Můj vlastní tatínek nebyl přítomný, nemohl jsem to s ním probrat, a tak se z historky stal nedořešený životní aspekt. Cítil jsem se jako ponížený zbabělec a nesl si to s sebou dál.“Vznikl zažitý vnitřní vzorec, který způsoboval, že kdykoli Jakub potkal cizí rozjařenou partičku, měl pocit, že se ti lidé smějí jemu a musí si na ně dát pozor.„Na holotropním dýchání je úžasné,“ říká v podcastu, „že ti umožňuje, abys ses k některým starým vzpomínkám vrátil, dospělým pohledem je revidoval a tím zažitý vzorec rozbil.
