Counterintelligence. Security. Two words that have serious pull in Washington D.C. The problem is, how do you ensure the strings, woodwind, brass and percussion are all playing the same music? Welcome to the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC). Acting Director Michael Orlando was this week's guest, where he sat down with Andrew – yes, literally sat down, poor Hammond is actually getting to do what his predecessors did and do podcasts face-to-face – to discuss how he helps conduct the orchestra. Michael is fascinating all by his lonesome – he came to the job via the U.S. Army, CIA and the FBI – but add his story to that of the NCSC and the current counterintelligence landscape, and you have the makings of Beethoven's Ninth.
In this episode of Intelligence Matters, host Michael Morell speaks with Mike Orlando, the acting director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, about the range of foreign espionage threats facing the United States from adversaries and challengers like Russia and China. Orlando and Morell discuss how "non-traditional collectors" within the academic and business sectors are increasingly tasked by foreign governments to steal intellectual property and other secrets. Orlando, a career FBI agent who has specialized in counterintelligence, explains how NCSC has sought to warn U.S. private sector entities against espionage threats that have evolved in range and sophistication.
How has the dismal vaccine rollout affected photographers? Some photographers have been kicked off Instagram since the insurrection on January 6th, is it related (it's not)? We're demanding to see location information to find out (we're terrible people and we're actually quite sorry for all of this). Sony a7iii impressions from shooting elopements and engagements. What a weird world it is to leave Canon for Sony. That weird Via Getty story from the insurrection. A daredevil photographer gets arrested for burglary. Lots of coronavirus talk and a few political things (we're not sorry about that... it's been a weird time period and we think it's important to talk about that kind of stuff... even if we're just making jokes). Sony Airpeak updates and sneak peeks. It's sexy (just like this show). Beer Talk: Steve - Gulo Gulo India Pale Lager from Wolverine State Brewing Dustin - Nothing... An incredible story of perseverance on this episode of the DOMKcast. Michael Orlando was on tour with the band Vampires Everywhere when their bus was hit by a drunk driver. Crippling injuries were sustained as a result of the crash and sent Michael to rehab where he began a long grueling recovery. Reemerging with a new perspective on life, Michael decided to get back in the music business and start another band called Dead Girls Academy. He talked about the effects of going through a traumatic event like the bus crash has had on his life. Michael still deals with flashbacks from time to time and avoids driving in the dark all together. Perhaps a little problem with OCD, Michael talked about his quirks that he does while out on the road and touched on the bedbugs epidemic. This is a real thing and had Lunchbox curious as to how you check for them. Michael loves to watch food shows in his spare time. He gives some of his favorites and we dive into some old shows from years past. New album “Alchemy” is out now. Hear “No Way Out” at the end of episode 70 of the DOMKcast. #DOMKRocks
