You GUYS! This is the update I just had to make. I canNOT be that "minimalist" who has SO many balls in the air, so I straight up just HAVE to let this one sit on the ground for a while...or maybe forever. Who knows! This is NOT goodbye, this is FIND ME OVER HERE:
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the clutter in your home? What if I told you that you could not only declutter your space but also make a significant amount of money in the process? In this episode, I share my personal story of how my wife, Linda, and I made over $2,000 in just 30 days by selling items we no longer needed or wanted. You'll learn the strategies we used and the surprising results we achieved.
Having a minimalist home, or decluttered space doesn't mean your home can't have a maximalist feel. When you are intentional with how you design your home, you can create a big impact with relatively little stuff. On today's episode, my guest, Zandra Zuraw, shares simple ideas on designing a space that feels slow, and simple while still leaving a major impression. We have talked quite a bit on this podcast about minimalism and living clutter-free. Even as someone who has been practicing the principles of minimalism for many years, I find that I have to constantly be aware of what is coming into our home so that it does not become overwhelming. Robyn and I chat in this episode about developing a decluttering habit in the new year. Rather than viewing decluttering as a giant one-time task we have to tackle, we should aim to make it part of our everyday mindset. We live in a time and place when it is easier than ever to acquire items, so we have to be intentional about minimizing in order to experience peace in our homes. In this episode, we cover: The surprising role your age may play in your relationship to clutter Addressing the emotional component of decluttering sentimental items What minimalism can look like in a kids' room Moving past the feeling of overwhelm to get started decluttering Tips for making decluttering a part of your everyday habits How storage spaces contribute to the problem of overwhelm Dealing with guilt when decluttering Addressing some of the common psychological obstacles around decluttering Choosing to make our homes reflect our current season of life Finding the right balance of minimalism for your personality and your needs The one thing you can do today to start a decluttering habit View full show notes on the blog + watch this episode on YouTube. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the clutter in your life, both physical and mental? I certainly have, and that's why I decided to do my own "Year of Less Challenge" this year. Each month, I've challenged myself to do less of something in order to free up more time and space for the things that matter most to me. What started as a month-long decluttering challenge in April stretched into four transformative months of decluttering, reevaluating my possessions, and embracing an even more minimal-ish lifestyle. Like many people, my journey into minimalism began in 2015 when I stumbled upon Marie Kondo's book, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up." Little did I know that it would be the catalyst for a major life change and a decade long journey to pursuing minimalism in every area of my life and business. Tune into this episode to learn more about my minimalist home journey, get a behind the scenes look at what it took to declutter my house from top to bottom this summer, and learn how this challenge has affected my business as a work-from-home entrepreneur! “Your life is too valuable to waste chasing and accumulating material possessions.” ~ Joshua BeckerThat quote right there just sums it all up for me. While I'm currently living a life FAR from minimalism, the idea that my material possessions are actually detracting from my life is something I see play out every day. I would MUCH rather spend my time pursing an activity I love (relaxing with a good book, anyone?) or spending quality time with my favorite people rather than fold an ENORMOUS load of laundry because I have too many clothes, or spend an hour picking up/decluttering just so I can clean. That's why I was so excited to bring Joshua Becker, founder of "Becoming Minimalist", onto my podcast. Joshua has made it his life's work to help and encourage others to "live more with less." He was full of lots of practical advice and tips, including:What is minimalism? What does it look like? What are the benefits of owning (and doing) less? How does one get started? What method do you recommend?Advice for someone who likes the idea but feels too overwhelmed, or has tried decluttering before and “failed.” Joshua Becker is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today best-selling author of five books: Things That Matter, The Minimalist Home, The More of Less, Clutterfree with Kids and Simplify. He is the Founder and Editor of Becoming Minimalist, a website dedicated to intentional living visited by over 1 million readers each month. His blog was named by SUCCESS Magazine as one of the top ten personal development websites on the Internet and his writing has been featured in publications all around the world. He is the Creator of Simplify Magazine and the Founder of The Hope Effect, a nonprofit organization changing how the world cares for orphans. Currently, he lives in Peoria, AZ with his wife and two teenage kids.To learn more about Joshua, visit: https://www.becomingminimalist.com/To learn more about Mindy CLICK HERE
Today's topic is minimalism and how it can benefit your productivity and creativity. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the clutter and distractions in your workspace? Have you ever wished you had more time and mental energy to focus on the things that matter most? If so, then this episode is for you. We aim to give you insights to improve your life and help you achieve your career aspirations. We want to help you transform from feeling stressed and overwhelmed to feeling focused and productive. By embracing minimalism, you can reduce distractions, increase focus, and boost your creativity. According to a study by the University of California, Irvine, the average worker is interrupted every 11 minutes, and it takes about 25 minutes to return to the original task. In other words, distractions can be a major productivity killer. One real expert on this topic is Joshua Becker, author of The Minimalist Home. https://amzn.to/41uwCoc #minimalisthome If you're enjoying the content and finding it valuable, we would appreciate it if you could take a moment to leave us a review. What would your life look like if you only owned what you truly needed? Joshua Becker shares the life-changing moment that convinced him to live with less and focus on what matters most. In this episode, Cathy and Joshua discuss: Defining minimalism and common misconceptions around minimalism The difference between minimalism vs. decluttering Lightbulb moment that led Joshua to transition to minimalism Do's and don'ts for beginning a minimalist lifestyle Joshua's approach of decluttering your most lived-in space first then working towards the hardest space Advice for working through learned behaviors of your kids and family Why working with your spouse requires love, patience, grace, and humility What matters most to Joshua: faith, family and relationships, making a positive difference in the world Tips for those struggling to determine what's most important to them Memorable Quotes: “The method, the approach…I have found to be the most helpful for the most number of people to work through your home is easiest to hardest, starting with the most lived-in areas first.” “It's a little bit like building up a muscle…this decluttering muscle, and the stronger you get, the better you get at it.” “There are some things that are difficult to get rid of. And when people get to those—don't stop because it's getting difficult. I think when it's getting difficult is when we take a step back and start asking ourselves questions like, Why is this hard for me to get rid of?” “I think when we use that freed up time and space and energy to help others to make a positive difference in the world, that this is when we get to the end of our lives and we're most satisfied and we're most most fulfilled…people can pursue minimalism for whatever reason they want.” Joshua Becker and his young family were introduced to minimalism 12 years ago during a short conversation with their neighbor and he immediately became a pioneer of the Modern Minimalist Movement with his blog, Becoming Minimalist. Through his blog, Joshua's story and writing have inspired millions around the world to find more life by owning fewer possessions. We've all heard about the minimalist lifestyle- maybe you're picturing a bearded hipster drinking coffee in his perfectly white dining room or an Instagram worthy, perfectly styled modern kitchen. It turns out that's not what minimalism is all about- it's about priorities. We felt that that summer is a great time to hit reset on a number of things in life, including the vast amount of clutter that many of us surround ourselves with. Here to talk with us today about minimalist living is Joshua Becker. While beginning the process of removing possessions from his life, Joshua started the site Becoming Minimalist and has written several fantastic books over the years including The More of Less, The Minimalist Home, as well as the recently published Things That Matter. Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching.
