DESCRIPTION In this episode, Jo & Vicky look at the negativity bias that all humans have – the tendency to fixate on what is wrong and get unnecessarily worked up about it. Beating yourself up for past mistakes you made years ago, constantly comparing yourself unfavourably with others and being overly critical are all examples of our negativity bias taking over, which leaves you feeling stressed and deflated. In a gentle and sometimes funny way, Jo & Vicky share how to recognise negativity bias in yourself and stop it from ruining your day and holding you back. KEY TAKEAWAYS Every human has some level of built in negativity bias. Some people are naturally more positive than others, but positivity can be learnt by even the most negative person. Using the example of social media, Jo & Vicky explain exactly how to recognise when your negativity bias is getting in the way and what to do about it. Comparing yourself with others is mostly pointless, each business is unique, so what others are doing might not be right for you. Being clear about what you want helps stop you wasting time and energy, so you progress faster which makes it easier to stay ahead of negative thoughts. Continually looking back and kicking yourself for what you didn´t do is very counterproductive. Failure is absolutely not a bad thing. You need to fail to learn. Be realistic, things are going to go wrong. Reframe, you learn new skills and become more resilient. Don´t be afraid of being wrong and stop beating yourself up when you are. You're constantly learning and growing, so being wrong sometimes is normal. Stopping yourself getting angry about little things makes a huge difference to your overall positivity e.g. It's not being a keyboard warrior or shouting at the telly. Constantly whingeing about things with friends is an easy trap to fall into. BEST MOMENTS “Humans literally go to the glass half empty first.” “Train your brain to look at something other than the negative.” “If you're asking them what they would do, you're asking the wrong question.” “Allow yourself to fail…graciously.” “Be aware of how you are reacting.” “Stop comparing yourself to everybody else, you are on your own journey, and that is all you need to worry about .” EPISODE RESOURCES An overview of negativity bias studies - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3652533/#:~:text=There%20is%20ample%20empirical%20evidence%20for%20an,to%2C%20learn%20from%2C%20and%20use%20negative%20information SOCIALS AND IMPORTANT LINKS https://www.tiktok.com/@letstalkdogbusiness https://www.youtube.com/@LetsTalkDogBusiness Website www.caninebusinessacademy.com Community Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/caninebusinessacademycommunity/ Let´s Talk Dog Business Strategy Book - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lets-Talk-Dog-Business-Strategy/dp/1068791705 Email hello@caninebusinessacademy.com ABOUT THE HOSTS Meet Jo and Vicky! I had this moment yesterday walking home from the gym where I just felt SO good in my body - you know those days when everything flows? It got me thinking about the client calls I'd had earlier where I literally watched two entrepreneurs' shoulders drop when we shifted their business models to actually work WITH their energy instead of against it. We've been taught that if business feels hard, we need to manifest our way out or regulate our nervous system more. But what if your business strategies could just feel like an exhale? In this episode, I'm sharing what that looks like in practice, plus how your Human Design energy type and 6th house in astrology can completely transform your daily work routine. In this episode, I share:

Braving Business: Tales of Entrepreneurial Resilience and Courage in the Face of Adversity
In a popularly demanded re-run of Braving Business, we sit down with Kat Weaver, a 2x accidental entrepreneur who turned crisis into opportunity—twice. Kat launched her first business from a college dorm room, built it into a successful company, then faced a devastating fire that could have ended everything. Instead of giving up, she used storytelling to win 22 of 23 pitch competitions, secure six figures in funding, and eventually sell the business for a successful exit—but not before nearly losing the deal four times. After a viral FedEx video featuring her pitch tips, Kat realized she had a gift for helping others. That's when she founded Power to Pitch, a company that helps early-stage founders perfect their pitch, land investors, and secure funding faster. Now, she's on a mission to help founders raise $100 million in grants and venture capital—and she's well on her way.In this conversation, Kat shares:How losing everything to a fire transformed the way she thinks about storytelling in business. The most common mistakes founders make when pitching—and how to fix them. Why negotiation is everything—and how to turn a “no” into a “yes.”What VCs are really looking for when they hear a pitch (and what they secretly hate). The mindset shift that took her from college entrepreneur to expert in securing funding.Kat's tennis background taught her grit and sacrifice, and she applies that same relentless energy to helping founders win in the fundraising game.Key Takeaways:Every founder needs a great story—investors don't just buy into numbers, they buy into vision.Resilience is everything in entrepreneurship—persistence separates those who raise capital from those who don't.Everything is negotiable—you just have to know how to frame the conversation.Connect with Kat Weaver:To get the pitch guide, they just have to DM the word “PITCH” on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/iamkatweaver/?hl=enLinkedIn: Kat WeaverContact Us: Visit www.bravingbusiness.com for more information, resources, and episodes.Kat's entrepreneurial journey is proof that storytelling isn't just important—it's the difference between securing funding and getting overlooked. This episode of Shark Theory, hosted by Baylor Barbee, delves into the dual nature of life's challenges and opportunities. As a sudden storm disrupts Baylor's morning, he reflects on the broader metaphorical storms we face in life. He begins by expressing gratitude towards military personnel and first responders, reminding listeners of the freedoms they protect. As the storm rages outside, Baylor transitions into discussing how inconveniences for some can be blessings for others, illustrating his point with the rain's negative impact on his golfing plans but its beneficial effect on recently planted trees. In this thought-provoking discussion, Baylor highlights the importance of seeing the flip side of adverse situations. He advises listeners to find ways that life's challenges might benefit them, likening life's adversities to storms that necessitate adjusting one's sails to continue progressing. Through the powerful metaphor of navigating a ship through turbulent weather, he stresses the importance of persistence and adaptability, even when progress seems stalled. By recounting the intriguing 1968 Rat Utopia study, Baylor underscores the necessity of adversity for growth, warning of the dangers of a conflict-free existence. Throughout the episode, Baylor encourages his audience to embrace life's storms and leverage them for greater appreciation and growth when sunnier days return. Key Takeaways: Every adverse situation offers potential benefits; it's crucial to seek out these positives rather than focusing solely on drawbacks. Adjusting one's perspective and strategies in the face of challenges can lead to continued progress and personal development. Adversity is a necessary component of growth, preventing stagnation and fostering resilience. Patience through life's metaphorical storms can lead to enhanced appreciation of good times and personal achievements. Even in seemingly perfect circumstances, challenges are crucial for maintaining motivation and fulfillment. Notable Quotes: "In almost every situation, every situation that I can think of, at least somebody benefits." "As frustrated as I am about...my tea time canceled, I bet those trees and plants really, really needed this." "You have to adjust your sails because you say... I don't want to sit here and just give up simply because the wind ain't going." "Sometimes you just got to wait it out." "The storms really help us appreciate the good days. They are equally as necessary to our growth."

Braving Business: Tales of Entrepreneurial Resilience and Courage in the Face of Adversity
In episode 3 of season 4 of Braving Business, we sit down with Kat Weaver, a 2x accidental entrepreneur who turned crisis into opportunity—twice. The mindset shift that took her from college entrepreneur to expert in securing funding.Kat's tennis background taught her grit and sacrifice, and she applies that same relentless energy to helping founders win in the fundraising game.Key Takeaways:Every founder needs a great story—investors don't just buy into numbers, they buy into vision.Resilience is everything in entrepreneurship—persistence separates those who raise capital from those who don't.Everything is negotiable—you just have to know how to frame the conversation.Connect with Kat Weaver:LinkedIn: Kat WeaverContact Us: Visit www.bravingbusiness.com for more information, resources, and episodes.Kat's entrepreneurial journey is proof that storytelling isn't just important—it's the difference between securing funding and getting overlooked. This is one of the most common gaps business owners face when they are struggling to increase profit. In today's episode, we dive deep into an often-overlooked strategy for business profitability: Monetizing every role in your company. Many business owners fall into the trap of hiring without a profitability plan, leading to unnecessary financial strain. We'll discuss how to ensure every role contributes to the bottom line, how to avoid the “see-saw effect” of back-end expenses outweighing front-end investment, and how to build a debt-free, scalable business. If you're ready to turn every hire into a profit center for your business, this episode is for you! Key Takeaways: Every role in your company should have a profitability plan. The "see-saw effect" of heavy back-end expenses with little front-end investment can lead to burnout and unsustainable business growth. Business owners should aim for a debt-free model to maintain financial freedom and control. Monetization isn't just about sales – finance, operations, marketing, and client services all play a role in profitability. Your finance team is crucial in reducing lost revenue from missed payments, defaults, and renewals. Operations should streamline sales and marketing efforts, optimize vendor management, and cut non-essential expenses. Marketing must align with sales to generate quality leads and accelerate conversion. Sales is not just about new customers – referrals, renewals, reactivations, and upsells should be a primary focus. Client services should have a sales metric, as they naturally interact with customers and can drive significant revenue. Timestamps: 0:33 – The importance of monetizing every role in your business. 1:11 – Why every role is either contributing to profitability or detracting from it. 2:08 – The impact of rising business expenses and why strategic hiring is essential. 3:20 – Avoiding the “see-saw effect” of back-end expenses outweighing front-end investment. 4:49 – How to ensure your team members contribute to the bottom line. 6:05 – The difference between hiring profit-aware employees vs. non-profit-aware employees. 9:19 – The financial role: Capturing missed payments, renewals, and reducing revenue loss. 11:40 – The operations role: Supporting sales and marketing, optimizing vendors, and reducing costs. 13:18 – The marketing role: Expanding brand reach and ensuring quality leads. 13:58 – The sales role: Managing new sales, referrals, renewals, and upsells. 15:21 – The client services role: Why they should also have a sales metric. Super Habits are like superpowers: as you develop any one of them, your life becomes calmer, more productive, more joyful, and healthier. - Dr. Andrew Abela Summary Have you ever wanted to stop yelling at your kids? Be more courteous to your spouse? Or be more orderly at home? Enter Super Habits! These are not just new things for you to learn to do, these are life-changing actions that will make you happier, healthier and more successful in many areas. In this interview, we spoke to Dr. Andrew Abela, author of the book Super Habits and his wife Kathleen who explained to us how to apply this book to family life. They gave us some great insights and showed us how Super Habits can be the answer to what we all need in our parenting and marriages. And the best part is that these habits are already present in us, we just need to activate them. Listen in! Key Takeaways Every virtue is a habit anyone can cultivate, not just a characteristic or personality trait. We can all grow and change. All new habits create new neurological pathways in our brains, but the advantage of Super Habits is that these are pathways that are native to us already, we already have the “muscles”; we just need to use them. Super habits do three things - they make us happier, healthier, and they have a positive effect on multiple areas of our lives. St. Thomas Aquinas has the best system of organizing the virtues! We all need fluency in the language of virtues. All growth in Super Habits is slow and steady so keep going! Virtue happens when we channel our desires correctly - not squash them. Growth in Super Habits is the answer to “helicopter” or “bulldozer” parenting We need to be aware of the full range of virtues for the full flourishing of the human person. Couple Discussion Questions In what ways have we already developed some Super Habits? How did we do that? What Super Habit will help us in our parenting? How can we support each other in cultivating it? Scripture: Genesis 1:26-31 Key Takeaways: + Every human being possesses dignity as an image bearer of God “But human rights are just like Heaven, and, like God, it's just a fictional story that we've invented and spread around. It may be a very nice story. It may be a very attractive story. We want to believe it, but it's just a story. It's not a reality. It is not a biological reality. Just as jellyfish and woodpeckers and ostriches have no rights, homo sapiens have no rights, also. Take a human, cut him open, look inside. You find their blood, and you find the heart and lungs and kidneys, but you don't find any rights. The only place you find rights is in the fictional stories that humans have invented and spread around.” – Yuval Noah Harari, TED Talk + You Matter + All People Matter + Christianity Matters + Every human being is fully dependent upon God Image: I make a sacrifice to the God → The God gives me what I want Acts 17:24-25 Image: God reaches down in unmerited grace → We respond in joyful and obedient thanks Ephesians 2:8-9

How a Crime Scene Can Transform Your Relationships Host: Dr. Ed Tori Podcast: Influence Every DayEpisode: 027 Episode Summary: In this episode, Dr. Ed Tori explores how a key forensic principle—Locard's Principle, also known as the "exchange principle"—can radically change the way we view our relationships. Locard's Principle teaches that "every contact leaves a trace," a concept used in solving crimes, but Dr. Tori applies it to our everyday interactions. Whether you're at home, at work, or in your community, every interaction leaves an emotional or psychological trace on the people around you. Dr. Tori breaks down how positive and negative traces build over time, shaping the "body of evidence" that defines your relationships. He challenges listeners to "stop winging it" and start being more intentional with their interactions, noting that even small moments can have lasting impact. From acts of kindness to handling conflicts with care, how you "clean up" the emotional debris left behind matters deeply in maintaining healthy relationships. --- Key Takeaways: Every contact leaves a trace: Much like forensic evidence at a crime scene, every interaction—whether positive or negative—leaves an emotional and psychological imprint. Emotional debris: Negative interactions, such as conflict, anger, or dishonesty, leave behind emotional debris that accumulates over time if not addressed. How you clean up this debris, through apologies and behavioral change, is crucial to the health of relationships. Positive traces: Acts of kindness, active listening, and creating environments of psychological safety leave behind positive traces that build trust and connection. Intentional interactions: Stop winging it! Be deliberate about the traces you leave behind in your relationships, at work, and in your community. Every moment is an opportunity to leave a lasting, positive impact. Building a body of evidence: Over time, your actions contribute to a "body of evidence" that defines your character in the eyes of others. What kind of evidence are you leaving behind? --- Memorable Quotes: "Every contact leaves a trace. Will that change how you behave at work, at home, or in your community?" "We're leaving emotional and psychological traces, often without even realizing it." "Negative interactions leave behind emotional debris. Are you cleaning it up, or piling more onto the mess?" "Your relationships are too important to wing it. Be intentional about the traces you leave behind." --- Actionable Tips: Reflect on the emotional traces you're leaving in your daily interactions. Are they positive or negative Repair any negative traces by apologizing sincerely and changing your behavior moving forward. Be intentional with your next interaction—whether it's at work, with family, or in public—what kind of trace will you leave behind? Build positive evidence: Create an environment of psychological safety, actively listen, and perform small acts of kindness to strengthen your relationships. --- Resources: Learn more about influence and communication at Dr. Tori's Influence Book Club: InfluenceBookClub.com Explore Dr. Tori's resources on becoming more intentional in your interactions: DrTori.com 00:00 Introduction to Locard's Principle 01:01 Applying Locard's Principle to Daily Interactions 01:46 Unseen Traces in Our Interactions 03:49 Negative Interactions and Emotional Debris 05:33 Positive Interactions and Building Evidence 07:39 The Impact of Media and Environment 08:24 Conclusion: Be Intentional with Your Interactions

In the second half of this conversation, Danny Silk shares the seven “dragons,” or fears, that all men must slay. From confronting self-doubt to navigating competition among other men, Danny explores what holds most men back and how you can take immediate action. Plus, you'll discover the importance of community and brotherhood in your journey to becoming a dragon slayer. Key Takeaways Every man must confront these seven fears: God, himself, women, men, nature, machine, and provision. If you don't set your heart to serve your wife, you will set your heart to conquer her and be the winner. Men bond through doing and adventure and through risk. Your role as a man is to think ahead and bring benefit to everyone you're leading. Fatherlessness comes from the breakdown of brotherhood. Danny Silk Danny Silk is a renowned speaker and prolific author who draws on decades of experience as a counselor, social worker, husband, parent, grandparent, and more. He is the President and Co-Founder of Loving on Purpose, a ministry to families and communities worldwide. Key Quotes 14:49 - "Quit putting it off because you don't want to feel stupid. You already look stupid. So go do something about it. Be the man. There's that end of it as well. And then there's, in the middle of it, which is get out there and take some risks. Get out there and learn some new skills, find some guys that love to work on that stuff and learn from them." 18:14 - "You really are looking down the road and you're leading, so people are following that. And in that is your responsibility to bring benefit to everybody on the journey with you. That's your role as a man, is to think ahead and to build benefit for for your family, for your legacy. I'm thinking generationally, I'm not just thinking momentarily. I'm not living paycheck to paycheck. I'm living generation to generation. So, then as a provider, you had better open up your clarity of where you're headed and who's going to be benefiting for you ever being on this planet." The most popular question I get, by far, is how to balance empathy and accountability. often a false impression of empathy that makes us ask this question in the first place.Today, I'm talking with Andrea Butcher, CEO of HRD, a Leadership Development Company. Andrea is a visionary—she knows how to lead organizations from big picture to execution. Today we talk about what emerging leaders are asking for in leadership development programs, which skills they want to strengthen, and what is vital to help all leaders in today's landscape be successful. We discuss how the work of leadership is self-development, how empathy and accountability co-exist, and why clear communication is so vital because you can't hold someone accountable to an expectation that was never set. She shares a lovely story about showing up as yourself, and another about how to respond to someone who has dropped the ball. To access the episode transcript, please click on the episode title at www.TheEmpathyEdge.com Key Takeaways:Every leader should have a coach. Everyone can benefit from having a safe place to struggle through challenges. As humans, we connect through weakness and vulnerability. But it takes confidence to feel those emotions and show that vulnerability while still recognizing your worth. Asking for feedback from trusted employees and advisors is a great path forward in becoming a better leader. It will do a lot to build trust and reinforce the relationship too. "You can't hold someone accountable for an expectation that has not been set. So much of the time it's the lack of clarity that's getting in the way." — Andrea Butcher Episode References: The Empathy Edge Podcast: Claude Silver: Leading With Heart At Vayner MediaThe Empathy Edge Podcast: Anna Liotta: Understanding Generational CodesExecutive Coach Ed Batista article on empathy and accountabilityAbout Andrea Butcher, CEO, HRDAndrea is a visionary—she knows how to lead organizations from big picture to execution. Are you open to exploring the role of psychedelics in expanding consciousness and spiritual growth? Join me and Paul Austin as we dive into the spiritual dimensions of psychedelic experiences. In today's episode, I chatted with Paul Austin, the brains behind Third Wave and an expert in the psychedelic world. We discussed how psychedelics can transform your life, and it's not just about tripping out. Paul highlights the importance of setting intentions, preparing mentally and physically, and being totally honest during the assessment. When it comes to the actual trip, it's all about surrendering to the journey and being open to whatever comes up. Afterward, it's crucial to integrate what you've learned into your life, and maybe even try microdosing to maintain the benefits. Here we covered the whole process, from choosing the right practitioner to the role of community and how to control the microdosing. Key Takeaways: Every individual's journey with psychedelics is unique, so it's important to approach the experience with an open mind and without expectations. Building a strong community of like-minded individuals is crucial for support and guidance on your psychedelic journey. Ultimately, the goal of psychedelic therapy is to help individuals lead more fulfilling lives by fostering self-awareness, emotional resilience, and spiritual connection.
