Welcome to September 25th, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate one-hit wonders and unsung heroes. By definition one-hit wonders are songs by artists that make us swoon only once before fading into obscurity. So in honor of National One-Hit Wonder Day, which songs fit that description for you? Every comic book fan knows the name, Stan Lee. But you may not be familiar with his partner, Jack Kirby. Together they created Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and the X-Men. Stan was the writer and Jack was the artist. Jack had been working in comics years before the two teamed up, creating his most famous character as World War II broke out. If you've ever seen Captain America punching Hitler in the face, Jack drew that. Shortly after he was drafted by the Army and assigned as a scout because he was able to quickly draw reconnaissance maps. After returning to the United States, Jack met Stan Lee and the rest is history. On National Comic Book Day, celebrate the men and women behind the heroes who may just prove that truth is more amazing than fiction. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
“We offer tailored mentoring to support mentors throughout our programs, men and women from a variety of sectors and backgrounds that are paired with mentees as someone who has already walked the path they wish to embark on, someone to share their journey and offer that guidance.” Emma Griggs- Burawa Project Director
It's another episode of Balls & Whistles, and because of a very busy Thursday Andrew takes you through some of the interviews he has done this week. First off, he was at the Ross County match against Celtic on Wednesday night, so there is immediate post-match reaction from Harry Clarke and then manager Malky Mackay's response to rising Covid concerns as well as the pitch invasion by Celtic fans that sent a steward to hospital. Then we move on to rugby, where clubs have played their final matches of 2021. For Highland's first team, it was a disappointing result away at Heriots, but head coach Dave Carson tells us why he does not feel the National One title - and a spot in the Premiership - is out of reach just yet. Finally focus shifts to Highland Boxing Academy, who held their first club show since the pandemic began in March 2020. Narrowly taking a winning record out of the card, head coach Liam Foy tells us what it was like for club boxing to return after such a long absence. Get in touch with the show on Twitter (@Balls_Whistles) or by emailing ballsandwhistles@hnmedia.co.uk, and thanks as always go to Forest Fires for our theme song Scared of the Dark.

It's another solo week for Andrew so it's time to sit back and listen to some of this week's interviews in full - starting with Ross County's Malky Mackay and Regan Charles-Cook after they emphatically scored their first Premiership win of the season against Dundee. It was not so good for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in their midweek match, losing 1-0 to Arbroath, but they have a chance to bounce back quickly against the Championship's top scorers Partick Thistle. In rugby, big matches await both Highland and Ross Sutherland as the former travels down to Biggar in National One and the latter faces Highland Raptors in a Caledonia North Two derby. Kinlochshiel capped off a wonderful 2021 by completing the set of senior shinty trophies, beating Kingussie after extra time to lift the MacTavish Cup, while Highland Boxing Academy could also boast success at the MTK Lonsdale Box Cup as Sarai Grant won a gold medal.
