Sam, Tom & Bruce are held up in the warmth of the Woburn clubhouse as they talk about exhibition golf (following on from the latest and somewhat disastrous 'Netflix Cup', as well as shows like 'The Match') and talk about whether exhibition golf can ever be pulled off successfully. So we tuned into an episode of Shell's Wonderful World of Golf series, watched for ourselves and came back with some thoughts. It's a great episode this one which touches on equipment changes (announcement due from the R&A / USGA imminently), as well as course set up, green speeds, styles of play and much more. Let's be real, golf is in its offseason right now and no one is really paying attention. It's cold outside, the sticks are collecting dust during the winter, and the PGA Tour is essentially on break until January. Despite this (or probably because of this), new golf events and entertainment are popping up. Namely, TGL (TMRW Golf League), a new digital first simulator competition with many stars of the PGA Tour, is getting ready for launch in January. Also, Netflix just premiered the Netflix Cup, a competition including top golfers and F1 drivers streamed live from Vegas. These events are a little strange, but maybe the newness will captivate a whole new set of golf fans. The guys discuss and share their takes on the new breed of golf entertainment on the rise!
Netflix's first live sporting event was certainly a spectacle and if it's any indicator for how the rest of the weekend will go…well let's just say we won't be surprised. Yes the Pro Golfers carried the teams and yes it was basically a Netflix commercial for 1.5 hours but the content was entertaining, Carlos could make the move to golf if F1 doesn't work out and now we know karma is officially not on Alex Albon's side. Also if you were one of the many people who tuned in just for the drivers and know nothing about golf, don't worry, Hannah and our notes from our golfer friend (shoutout Josh) do wonders to explain what actually happened and what we can take away from this event. Non Netflix Cup additions in this episode - Lando might be entering his rep era, Lewis Hamilton is larger than life, the Vegas Sphere better not disappoint us this weekend and we, at Track Talk, finally let the cats speak.

This week we discuss the Netflix Cup, F1, and Morgan Wallen.
It's whiparound Wednesday, and Andy is confronting the possibility that he might have made a mistake adding a second dog to the house. Brendan begins with the Netflix Cup, an assault on the senses in a place that excels at that, Las Vegas. What was that? Who was it for? Was it good at all? They react as they watch and the Cup drags on. Then they bounce around on all manner of golf tidbits, from disputing a 100-hole “hike” at a par-3 course, the Tour's absurd new pace of play policy which introduces a new acronym, Ale Tosti going to Japan, Atlanta Drive's full roster, and Mike Block making another ace with the cameras rolling. There's also ample time given to Frank Nobilo's comments that “golf is in a weird space” right now with the amount of money given to a pro sport that is "outrated by volleyball." It is out of whack, but are we too far gone and will it course correct. They close with a schedule for the week and some deep thoughts about the mis-numbering of birthdays.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Netflix is producing its first live sports event, The Netflix Cup, which will bring together figures from its sports docuseries "Drive to Survive" and "Full Swing." The move marks a major step for the one major streamer that has previously avoided entering the live sports space. Plus, we take a look at the NBA's recent experiments — from the midseason tournament to a more competitive All-Star Game —with "Run It Back" co-host Michelle Beadle.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There's a lot going on in the world of professional golf and the theme has been, well, a total lack of clarity as to where we are and where we're headed. LIV, mergers, the ~fall series,~ Netflix Cup, TGL, all this junk and we still are left with little to no sense of how these entities interact, nor what each of them are going to be down the road. One thing we do know is that the LIV tour's OWGR application being denied is a big deal. This potentially leaves in question the viability of LIV players who aren't exempt for majors for the long term having the ability to play in the events that pro golfers care the most about. If we have learned anything in the last few years, it's that the real golfers all still care about the majors. In light of recent of events, this seriously heats up the idea of LIV players figuring out how to get out of there to be able to have access to the game's biggest events. The potential merger means a lot here, but what we do know if that it's going to be an asbolute show.Thank you for joining us today for our show. We appreciate the ongoing support!Cheers,- The Tie GuysWebsite:https://www.thetiepodcast.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/thetiepodcast/?hl=enTwitter:https://mobile.twitter.com/thetiepodcastGoodWalk Coffee:https://goodwalkcoffee.comCODE: thetie for 20% offBDraddy:bdraddy.comCODE: thetie25 for 25% off

Andy and Brendan are a bit punchy in this late night recording before they both take on some travel early Wednesday. They begin with a bunch of random questions and a moment of silence for the Spikemark-gate drama that embroiled NCAA golf all fall. Then they turn to a sad note on the passing of Ivor Robson and what they remember about him. The “Netflix Cup” is discussed briefly, but quickly devolves in some incredulous yelling about the new Stealth collaboration with an F1 team sponsored by an energy drink and software. The schedule for the week discusses the Zozo and Champions Tour but then takes a longer look at the LIV Team Championship week in Miami. Is the format worthwhile or overly confusing? Would it be better if the league were not a joke? News hits TGL rounding out its roster with four more names, including Hatless Pat and Broomstick Lucas. Then they close it out with Buddy Ball coming to the Hero World Challenge and its loaded field.
Rick Gehman is joined by Kyle Porter, Patrick McDonald and Mark Immelman to preview the Zozo Championship, talk TGL roster spots and Netflix's crossover with the PGA Tour and Formula 1. 0:00 Intro + the Philadelphia Phillies 4:30 24 Golfers have committed to play in the TGL in 2024 16:30 “The Netflix Cup” brings Drive to Survive and Full Swing together in a live event 21:30 Is this Netflix's signal that they are ready for live sports? 33:30 The best field of the FedEx Cup Fall at the Zozo Championship 45:45 Best Bets #PGADFS #PGAFantasy #Golf #PGAFantasy #GolfGambling #PGATourPodcast #Golfing #GolfBetting #Masters #PGATour #FantasyGolf #Golf #GolfGambling #PGATourPodcast #Golfing --- SUBSCRIBE TO THIS CHANNEL: https://youtube.com/FirstCutPodcast Get your First Cut merch here: https://paramountshop.com/collections/the-first-cut-golf AUDIO ‘First Cut' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts and wherever else you listen to podcasts.
