It's officially official! Max Verstappen claims his fourth World Driver Championship in as many years at this years Las Vegas Grand Prix. This huge news is matched with other huge news as we discuss the addition of GM Cadillac to the F1 grid in 2026. This episode is rounded up with some Indycar silly season updates and questions about the F1 movie scenes. We had major FOMO not being in Vegas on the weekend, but we were so excited to see all of our favourite motorsport content creators creating A+++ content. Adam and Arafat quiz Mohammed on the events of the Vegas GP since he wasn't able to watch.
After a hectic Vegas GP, Bryn Lucas hosts the latest edition of the Autosport Q+A alongside Haydn Cobb and Jake Boxall-Legge. On the show this week, you, the Autosport audience, asked where Max Verstappen ranks on the all-time list of F1 drivers after capturing his fourth World Championship and pondered what more he needs to do to be on the level of Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, and Juan Manuel Fangio. There's also a breakdown of what our experts think would happen if Verstappen swapped cars with McLaren's Lando Norris. Who would win the title? Also on the show; analysis of Carlos Sainz and whether he was right to be so bullish with teammate Charles Leclerc, ranking the American tracks on the current F1 calendar, and asking whether the excitement over Williams' Franco Colapinto has died down after a couple of high-profile crashes in recent races. Ben Hunt and Mark Mann-Bryans head to the Casino to finish rounding up the Vegas Grand Prix weekend. Together they sit down and discuss Max Verstappen finishing fifth to win his fourth consecutive World Championship, becoming just the fourth driver to ever do. There's a deep dive into his managing drive in Vegas, as well as the key moments across the season that cemented the title, and just how far up the all-time list he sits with his fourth title secured. George Russell is also discussed at length as he led a brilliant Mercedes 1-2 finish in the race itself, with Lewis Hamilton mounting a charged comeback through the field from 10th on the grid. Ben and Mark also ponder that with Mercedes dominating in a controlled manner, what could Lewis be letting himself in for when he joins Ferrari next year, who had to deal with Charles Leclerc having a heated rant on teammate Carlos Sainz in front of him in the battle for the final podium spot. And finally, more on Alpine and the battle for sixth in the Constructors as Gasly's P3 grid start was ruined by a power-unit failure. Learn more about your ad choices. Ben Hunt and Mark Mann-Bryans take up their putters and head to the mini-golf course as they discuss Qualifying day at the Vegas GP. Between swings, the duo discuss George Russell taking his fourth pole position of the season ahead of Carlos Sainz and a surprise third for Alpine's Pierre Gasly. There's also more discourse on the differences in pace between Russell and teammate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying. Beyond that, there's a discussion on a huge crash in Q2 for Franco Colapinto, as he hit the outside wall at 50G's on his final hot lap, his health status for the race tomorrow, and the costly damage for the team as Williams suffers its fifth major crash in the last two weekends. Finally, Ben and Mark give their predictions for the podium for tomorrow's race. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Mark Mann-Bryans and Ben Hunt return after Friday's running to review FP1 and 2 in Las Vegas. The main story was Mercedes' dominance. Lewis Hamilton led both Friday practise sessions, fresh after responding to comments by his team boss about his "shelf life" during the final break in the calendar. Mark and Ben break down Hamilton's response on and off the track and discuss how the cold of Las Vegas is helping Mercedes set the pace. There's also discussion about a relatively easy start for new FIA Race Director Rui Marques and the driver's reactions to previous director Niels Wittich's departure, the Red Flag for Alex Albon in FP2, and where Red Bull fit amongst the pecking order after another slow start to the weekend. We are back this week to preview the Vegas GP. We also recap the big boxing match that took place over the weekend, get heavy into the beer chat and even dabble in some model airplane chat. Enjoy!
In a special edition of Autosport's F1 coverage, Emily Selleck chats with Ben Hunt and Mark Mann-Bryans from the famous Bellagio Fountains to cover Media Day for the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix. In an extended preview, the trio discuss why Max Verstappen winning the Drivers' Championship in Vegas would be a monumental win for F1, Lando Norris' feelings in the media sessions about his dwindling title fight chances, as well as McLaren dropping its infamous "Papaya Rules". Also included is a discussion as to why Ferrari may be the dark horse this weekend and take the Constructor's Championship, and what Vegas has done to ensure a smoother Grand Prix on its second running. Haydn Cobb and Kevin Turner join Bryn Lucas on the latest episode of the Autosport Q+A. This week, the trio discuss who will most likely succeed in the final three races of the 2024 season and if the sport can expect similar convergence to 2021's Championship fight between teams in the future. They also ponder whether Red Bull has a chance to reclaim second or even first in the Constructor's Championship. There are also discussions on whether the “free tyre change” rule under Red Flags needs to be changed after the Brazilian GP, concerns over the FIA's leadership after the departure of many of its staff, whether Greg Maffei stepping down as Liberty Media's CEO increases Andretti's chances of making the grid in the future, and Kevin is asked if Valtteri Bottas leaves F1 as the sport's “greatest teammate”. Some hints: the Sphere, the Bellagio, Elvis, capitalism. This was Liberty's big shot and they shot to kill. We break down the massive numbers behind the race, how it compares to the Super Bowl and what could come next from here with this playbook? Also, Daddy Stroll cashes in part of Aston, but what's the nepo discount there? As we approach a silly off-season, who needs to do some trust falls? Finally, homegrown shoeys + Moms of F1 merch to come!Next up, the season finale in Abu Dhabi! Welcome to our Thanksgiving episode! Before we dive into the wild world of sports, Mike and Jess discuss Turkey Day. Jess opposes the classic meal choices and is sick of turkey; Mike challenges her being over it all in her late 20s. Ham, roasted chicken, whatever your preference – they agree there is NO rule when it comes to the main dish. Changing topics to college football, Mike points out the match-up of the weekend will be Ohio State against Michigan. One team that wasn't on Jess' radar this season was Louisville, but now she has them in her conversations after they secured a spot in the ACC Championship game. They debate who is making the college football playoffs, as well as the Big 12 Championship game. Jess questions if it's going to be Texas and Oklahoma. Mike makes his case for the Heisman Trophy winner either being Oregon's Bo Nix or Washington's Michael Penix Jr. They can't leave CFB talk without ignoring the haters who keep poking at Notre Dame's independence and their contract with NBC (which has been going on for 33 years!) Moving on to breaking NFL news, Matt Canada was fired from the Steelers today. Jess isn't shocked they let Canada go but is more surprised that they made the decision mid-season. They breakdown the Steelers game against the Browns, the decision as a whole and what the team needs to do to make the playoffs. Staying on NFL, the Chiefs dropped the ball (literally) against the Eagles on MNF in a Super Bowl rematch. Jess has concerns with KC's problems moving forward. Golic and Smetty round out today recapping the fiasco that was the Las Vegas Grand Prix and if the race was a success. Have a great holiday and we'll see you next week! The inagural Vegas GP is in the books, and wow! Amidst all the negativity, problems in FP1, parading celebrities around that have no clue about F1...the racing was absolutely fantastic! Max takes win number 18, but not without a fight. The inaugural highly anticipated Vegas Gp started off badly as a undone meanwhile cover caused significant damage to Carlos Ferrari. Outside of that fans were treated badly after being booted from an FP2 session only to be offered voucher tickets afterwards not even a refund which reflected badly on the F1 organizers. Thankfully after that we were treated to some brilliant racing that saw Charles of Ferrari battle it out with Max. In the end it was a thrilling record win for Max, but you can say without a doubt the driver of the day, and the weekend was Leclerc !!Twitter page
