Confidence Hack #78: According to DataReportal, as of 2023, the average American spends 6 hours and 59 minutes on a screen. Per day! If you are into health and wellness, then I'm sure you've heard of Intermittent Fasting. It's a trendy way to lose weight based on compressing the time window for eating. Usually, the eating hours are open from noon to 8pm or even as small as 2pm to 6pm.  The concept builds parameters so the person reaching for the donut at 7am (and 8am) won't. Today, you and I will make the term' Intermittent Screen Time Fasting' a thing together. Why isn't it easy for everyone to turn off their phone and put the screen down? Nomophobia. There is actually a phobia, which describes the fear of being without a phone. In a study done by Psychology Today - they found that just by putting down the phone for an hour each day improves: Sleep Quality  Sex life Energy throughout the day Ability to get out of bed faster the next morning Lower depression rates The confidence boost today comes from right here, right now, setting up the hour window (just like intermittent food fasting) that you are going to be on your phone.  Once you commit to a time window, that's what you are sticking to. Try it for a week, and if you like it (which I have an excellent feeling you will), make it a daily habit. Hey! If you love this show, share it with family and friends! It's the best way to help get this info into the hands of people who want to grow and become the most CONFIDENT LEADERS they can be! And please throw us a 5-star review! Nomophobia is a noun that refers to the fear of being without a cell phone.  Our word of the day is a recent addition to the English language that gets its origin from the words ‘no moble phone' as well as the Greek suffix P-H-O-B-I-A which refers to an all-consuming fear of. Here's an example of nomophobia in use: While camping in the woods, I often feel overcome with a sense of nomophobia. But that feeling fades in the middle of a spooky ghost story told around the campfire. At moments like that, the last thing you want is a scary buzz of your iPhone.

Welcome back everyone and thanks for joining me for this Sleep Hypnosis recording that I've written and recorded for those who may be concerned about their smartphone / mobile phone habits and usage - potentially where they may even self-diagnose themselves as being "addicted". "Nomophobia" is the term to refer to someone who has a fear of not having their device on them or having access to it. This is an increasingly important topic as we rapidly develop into a world where we rely on technology more and more, to speed up our day-to-day lives. However, while we are "speeding up" in many areas, our mental health can suffer dramatically, as it is not able to keep up with the pressure and demands of the everyday. This video aims to support those with concerns by helping them drift into a deeply relaxed state and even into a deep slumber, while subsequently being able to access the part of the subconscious mind that controls our habits and behaviours. The aim of the content is not to unrealistically pull us away from our smartphones completely, but to allow us to question when usage is beneficial to our lives vs when usage is detrimental to our mental health.

Let's face it. We are all guilty of checking our phone or doing a sneak peak at our texts on a regular basis. So, at what point does it move from over usage into a full-blown addiction? Researchers indicate that 83% of teens sleep with their phone and there is an older UK study that say as many as 25% of adults will answer their phone while having sex. The same study indicated that one in five people would rather go without their shoes for a week rather than take a break from their cell phone. Another study states that people touch their cell phone more than they touch their partners. Really? Why is this? Whenever you get a text, email or comment on a posted selfie, your dopamine signals in your brain increase. These neurotransmitters are associated with pleasure. However, the positive reaction is only temporary and as the feel-good dopamine wears off, you will go back to the source. Remember the story of Pavlov's Dog. Every time we hear the buzz of a text or magical music of an incoming call, the sounds take us out of our mundane lives and reenforces our sense of importance. It is no wonder Sean Parker when he was Facebook, described it as a “social validation feed back loop”. Get this! There is even a vocabulary for it. Nomophobia: the abbreviation for “no-mobile-phone” phobia. The fear of going without your phone Textraphrenia: A stage of thinking where you believe you heard a message come in or a device vibrate when it actually did not. FOMO: Fear of Missing out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/million-kids/support

Why You Should Consider a Digital Detox!Technology to keep us connected has been indispensable in the last two years.  With so few opportunities to be able to meet family, friends and colleagues, technology has literally been a lifeline for both our mental and business health.  But there is a flip side – a dark side even.   Who hasn't become exhausted and disillusioned by endless Teams or Zoom meetings?  Who didn't feign a headache to avoid that family zoom quiz?  Who among us checks our smartphone as the very first thing we do when we wake up?I'm increasingly wondering if instead of technology being our servant, the relationship has switched and it's really us that's the servant, jumping to attention everytime we receive yet another notification and I thought I would so some research leading to my discovery that I suffer from Nomophobia!  What is Nomophobia?Nomophobia is a genuine anxiety disorder caused by separation from a mobile phone.  My symptoms include an increased heart rate, feelings of panic and an in inability to focus until I'm reunited with my device.  Maybe I need a digital detox? My guest this week knows all about a digital detox – in fact he's made it his business.  Hector Hughes is the co-founder of Unplugged. Revitalise Productivity with Marcey Rader Revitalise productivity means helping people find the time that they swear isn't there. Marcey helps people use their time in a more intentional way. Most people go through their day reacting to people, agendas and crises. People often are not clear about what they are going to do in their next 10 minutes. Instead, their devices ping at them and steal away their time. Those devices we mentioned - mobile phones - are useful tools says Marcey, when we are not allowing ourselves to be dictated by them. NoMoPhoBia - the fear of being without your phone. Have you experienced nomophobia? Awww, must have been hell for you! Marcey tells the story about her analogue watch. She wore it instead of her Apple Watch for an all day event. On that day, it was important for her to focus. But, she kept looking at the analogue watch to see if she'd had an email. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/NoMoPhobia.mp4 Kevin and Marcey both wear Apple Watches. They mentioned closing the move ring. This means they have daily targets for standing, exercising and moving. The move ring. Revitalise Productivity Tip - TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS Marcey does a workshop called Focus Power Ups. One lady on the course told her about her Fitbit telling her to stand up all the time. Which she ignores. But, boy it distracts her. The lady was effectively in a battle of wills with the Fitbit. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Marcey-Rader-Focus.mp4 Kevin pointed out that notifications on devices make you reactive. They deny focus. Notifications are normally on as default. Just turn off the notifications. Marcey recommends that some executives ONLY look at their email inbox once or twice a day. That's not practical for a personal assistant, it does rely on the role. It is sort of a reward. Revitalise Productivity Tip - What are Your 1 to 3 Priorities for Today? You ought not have more than 3. Focus on those that'll truly move the needle towards the place you'd like to be. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Marcy-Rader-3-Daily-Priorities.mp4 Ask yourself what is that top task that I'll complete BEFORE I hit my inbox. That is a real behavioural shift for some people, especially those who check their email first thing in the morning. On the Google Work platform, you can use Inbox pause. That means, you pause seeing your emails until you are good and ready. Her top tier clients are never paused. Hello Sign emails are contracts, so they are let in too. Marcey processes email as a task, for instance. Revitalise Productivity Tip - Focus Do you schedule meetings when you are at your best? Marcey is at her best first thing in a morning. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Marcy-Rader-Focus-Time.mp4 Burnout Overwhelm Too Many Notifications But who's to blame? Devices are designed to get us to use them more. Who's to blame? http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Marcey-Rader-Whos-to-Blame.mp4 We need to take ownership of our own decisions. Virtual Professional Marcey prefers the term "Virtual Professional" rather than "Virtual Assistant". She has hired from countries that are economically and politically disadvantage - such as, Venezuela, Philippines, Guatemala and Kenya. Make the assessment what your time is worth and contrast this with what you would spend on a VA. Marcey recommends Virtual Latinos - go here She also recommends iWorker - go here Before Bed Turn off your devices at least an hour before you go to bed.
