In this post, entitled Co-dependency Happens When You’re Not Looking, we cover the following topics:Any family who has an active addict or alcoholic in their midst is vulnerable to co-dependency, without exception.Co-dependents are best defined as people whose lives have become unmanageable as a result of living with an alcoholic (or addict) in a committed relationship.Co-dependents are tied to their alcoholic or addict by an emotional chain which means they are only OK when their addict is OK. The co-dependent spouse of the addict or alcoholic feels overly responsible for every aspect of her spouse’s well-being and neglects her own needs.Families where the disorder is active learn to stuff their thoughts and feelings: “Don’t talk, don’t trust, don’t feel” becomes the unspoken mantra. The co-dependent can indeed liberate herself from her spouse’s disorder whether her spouse is still using or drinking or not. She can begin her recovery with the help of professionals and with the loving guidance of a sponsor in Al-Anon.

Hi, guys and welcome to another episode of the Delivering WOW Dental podcast. Today is going to be a little bit of a coaching session and today, we're going to be talking about how do you assume leadership? How do you level up, to be able to run a successful dental practice? So, what I see happening, so many times, is doctors are reaching out to me and they're blaming their team, right? They're like, "Oh, well, my team does not want to do vision boards. My team does not want to do scorecards. My team does not want to stay past 4:00 PM. My team does not want to, my team does not want to." Right? Then, I look at practices where the teams are super pumped up and excited to actually help the business grow. I want to talk to you guys today about, how do you get that team that is excited to be able to work alongside you, to be able to create a really amazing place inside of your community? What I see happening, so many times with practices, is that, to be honest with you, you have not necessarily done due diligence in hiring. What I mean by that, for you who are practice owners who are listening to this podcast, it's super important, before you even think about hiring a team member, that you're super clear about what you are expecting out of them. What is going to be their job description, right? Also, making sure that they are clear, in terms of what is expected of them, right? For example, if they are an office manager, it's not going to be possible for them to say, "Well, I can't come in until 10 o'clock." Or, "I can't work on Thursdays." Right? It's not going to be possible, because the office manager or the team lead, they are the one who is essentially running the business for the doctor. Taking the doctor's vision and carrying it out, ensuring that all projects, in terms of community service and marketing projects are being done, whether they're doing it or not, right? Overseeing to make sure that it's done. Making sure that processes are continuously being built, systems. Written documentation of processes, making sure that the practice is growing week-to-week. That scorecards are being done right. If you're getting resistance, doctors, from your office manager, saying that they are not able to do the things that need to be done, to be able to run the business, then either, to be honest with you, you've made a bad hire, right? It's not the right person for your culture. Or even more so, what happened is that a lot of times, we have not been clear about our expectations. What I find a lot, is that doctors are really amazing people and they are very kind. Sometimes, they're very afraid to step up and be a leader. If they are not happy with something that they're seeing in their business, they keep quiet. I can tell you one thing that I've always said in my business, is that if somebody is going to be disappointed, it's not going to be me. It's not going to be me. I'm going to make sure that what we believe in is going to happen. If that means that, for example, we have made a decision that we are going to do one marketing campaign every month to help all the community, then it has to be done. Or, if we're going to give headphones and iPads to our patients while they're having a procedure done, so that they can listen to music, it has to be done, right? As you're stepping into leadership, for many of you guys, it's super important that you understand that the business that you are running, you will get what you deserve, or you will get what you put into it. Or, you will get what you envision for your business, right? If you have a vision to be able to have a business where people are working alongside you, then first, you have to visualize that. Number two, you have to look at the employees that you have right now and think, "Are they there with my vision?" One thing that we do inside of our platinum program and our inner circle, is we always want to make sure that we can get the teams aligned and we see who is on our team or not. Who's going to be a part of our practice vision or not. We find that out really early. Typically, what I find is, when we work with practices within the first year, there's changes in their team. Why? Because the doctors become better leaders. They know clearly what they want, they know what they're going to tolerate and what they're not. They're going to be better at hiring and being very clear and specific about what the roles are, right? So, one of the things that we do with teams, of course, are the vision boards. Some people think that that's a little, silly exercise, but it's actually not a silly exercise. Having vision boards allows you to see what team members are going to give you pushback, or what team members are going to be excited, because guess what happens? Once the business grows and everybody works together, the team can achieve whatever is on that vision board. If they truly believe that they are in the right place with the right doctor, with the right teammates, then there's nothing that the team cannot do together. As I start looking at, how can I grow businesses, how can I work alongside practice owners so that they can get to time and financial freedom? It is super important to be very clear, in your mind, about the business that you are going to have. Not one that you wish or hope that you're going to have. Not Looking at what others have and being envious. I see some of the people that we work with, they've got amazing teams and they come to us and they're like, "You know what? We've just flatlined. We have been in other coaching programs and nothing has changed. Our team wants to be able to get to the next level and we a need next level of training to be able do that." I love when those practices come to us and then we have some that are, quite honestly, a mess. There's a lot of resistance and negativity on the team and the doctor is afraid to step up and be that leader. So, if you're listening to this and you are that leader or that future leader in your business, I encourage you, make that decision today, right? Make that decision today, that you're going to have that practice that you dreamed of. We spent a lot of time going into dental school and have put a lot of time, effort, expense and tears into building an amazing business that's going to allow us to be able to help a ton of people inside of our community. It's no way that we're going to be able to do that alone. We have to have dedicated people who are working side-by-side, arm-by-arm with us, so that we can achieve the goals. We start looking at, "We need to have weekly scorecards done so that we can know if the doctor production per visit is high or low. We need to make sure that the whiteboards are being done. We need to make sure that the AR is kept below a certain amount." Right? There has to be consistent processes. If you have a team that's giving you pushback or making excuses, you're never going to achieve your goal, right? A lot of those key metric tools that we utilize are there to be able to even highlight and see weaknesses. You look at, for example, if a hygiene production per visit is low, I can look at it and say, "Well, why is this so low?" When I'm reviewing scorecards at practices and then the doctors are like, "Well, my team member offered sealants to patients, but they told them 'no', so they're uncomfortable talking to the patients about sealants." I'm like, "Okay, well this is an opportunity for training." Like, "Don't accept that." Like, "Your team has to be trained on how to have verbal skills. They have to know that 4 out of 10 people are going to tell them 'no'." Just expect that. So the first four, you're like, "All right, that was one of my four." Then, the fifth one tells you, "Yeah." You have prevented a health problem and them having a cavity, right? The benefit is definitely more than being afraid to have a conversation or communicate, you know what I mean? Anyway, I hope this helps. I am just about to pull into my office right now, but I just wanted to send out that message today to you and I hope it speaks to you. We will chat soon. Again, if you have not joined us inside of our Facebook group, please join us at the Delivering WOW hangout. Once you're in there, please make sure that your introduce yourself so I can know who you are. I love Facebook Live videos, so if you can even come on and do a Facebook Live and introduce yourself, tell us a little bit more about you, we would love to get to know more about you and your practice. All right, guys, take care. Until next time, keep delivering WOW.
Hi everyone and welcome to Your Social Media Journey. My name is Shikhita and this is episode number two, this is where the real podcast starts. If you wish to find out more about me and my credentials, check out my first introductory episode - here, we are going to jump straight into today’s topic: CONTENT.To understand why content is so important, lets start with an example. In a magazine, when we see advertisements, our eyes usually glaze over. The first few pages of a magazine do not get much of a look in. However, once we get to the editorial content, we start getting genuinely interested in what the content has to say. Now if that editorial content talks about a specific product, a travel destination or a brand of chocolate, we are definitely more interested in that brand. But, if the same brand advertises about just how good it, on the very next page, our eyes are likely glaze over again . Know what I mean? Social media is just that - you are building your business’s editorial content, first, and then you will direct people to your product or sale.By the way, if you like this podcast, please do take a moment to leave me a review, especially if you are listening on an Apple device. It takes moments and goes a long way towards supporting this podcast.Right lets get started. I have first hand experience of building an audience online - and this treasured audience is now my biggest cheerleader. Let me take your through my business journey and how I have used social media to reach out to my ideal customers.I started using Facebook for my business, Fair Cake, back in 2009. Then, all I did was post pictures of cupcakes I was making at home. My entire business was just that, selling cupcakes. I had quit my job in 2007 and set up my business from home. I made a very basic five page website, I am not sure we even had Wix or SquareSpace then! My customers found me on Google, gave me a ring, I made cupcakes, packed them up and either delivered them myself or got my customers to pick them up. Of course, before the cupcakes went out, I took pictures. Lots of pictures. That was pretty much it. A quick side note - Fair Cake now is an entirely different business. It is a cookery school that specialises in teaching people how to make cupcakes and large cakes, including speciality cakes such as those for weddings and special events. And its entire metamorphosis from a simple cupcake business to a well established and loved cake school was shared on social media. I will discuss this huge change and how this came to be in future podcasts. If you wish for me to talk more about it, send me a DM on Instagram or an email.Once I joined Facebook in 2009, I realised that just a few pictures for my website were not cutting it and I needed more content. It might seem weird now, but the word “Content” was not a thing back then! Anyway, I realised that I needed to get people’s attention - because this audience, my Facebook audience, was NOT LOOKING for cupcakes. This was a major moment when I realised that my website traffic was people actively looking to buy my products, cupcakes, but my Facebook audience was simply a large bunch of potential customers. There were NOT looking for cupcakes, so no point putting a great big “for sale” sign up.That was, for lack of a better phrase, all hail Oprah, my AHA moment. I might get into trademark trouble by using the phrase, watch this space! So that is it. That is the sum total of all my social media knowledge. Do. Not. Sell.Ok, wait, of course there is more! But that is a pretty good place to start. Your next question is, what do you do on social media, as a business, then? Well, several things. Lets list them -1. Create content2. Keep potential customers interested in your content3. Build a reputation4. Engage with your customers - answering questions, comments and such like5. Once you have all of that, then you can point your potential customers towards something your are selling6. Repeat the whole cycleAnd it is this, this creating content that makes social media a different beast to, say, owing a website. You see, on your own website, you can dump a whole lot of pictures and words, and perhaps some videos. If you have an e-commerce website, you will have the means of selling products or services and taking payments. Once you have set everything up, you will more or less relax and focus on being found on different search engines - to get people actively looking for you to come and buy from you. So you can get away with static content. Let me give you an example. If you sell home made chutneys and jams, you will have pictures of your chutneys and jams, perhaps in beautiful jars, perhaps on top of perfectly imperfect table tops (you know what I am talking about!) and with a silver spoon next to them. Or maybe not. Maybe you will have simple images of your chutney jars on a white background. That works, too. Lets get out of this image jam here :) Anyway, you can add products to your own website. Mr. X is looking for chutney jars as a return gift for a very posh party he is throwing. He looks up posh chutney jars on Google, your website comes up, he has a look around, is impressed by what you are offering and places an order for 12 jars, because he has 12 posh people coming to his posh dinner party. Job done. Stay with me, we are just getting started, this will all make sense!Great, you made a sale. All that setting up of website etc. was done once. But wait, what if you can hear crickets after Mr. X has checked out. What if no one else seems to be buying your chutneys and jams? This is exactly where social media comes in. You see, while all this was happening on your website, you could be creating content for social media and putting that idea into your potential customers heads that even if they did not feel like buy a chutney or jam jar themselves, it makes for a great hostess gift. Or host gift. Now it is up to you to actively seek out more Mr. Xs! The way to do this is by creating content that is very relevant to what you are selling. No point in taking pictures of your latest shoes haul if you are making chutneys and jams, now, is it? But this is exactly the mistake I see people make on Instagram and Facebook. A number of businesses end up sending confusing messages to their followers. YES, it is important to inject a bit of personality into your social media presence, but that line becomes very blurry indeed. So how DO you create content, endlessly, to keep an interested following - so much so that when they do need your product or service themselves, or are in a position to recommend someone, they recommend you? For some people, this comes naturally. These are usually creative people - they make things, they have an eye for a good picture, they are confident in front of a camera and are definitely not shy. It is not to say that if you do not have these qualities, you will not be a great content creator! On the contrary, if you are ready to do some planning and can organise your work, you will probably do a whole lot better than someone who is simply relying on their creative skills.Lets go into some specifics, shall we. Here are four content ideas, that you can flesh out for your own business.1. Product pictures2. Behind the scenes3. Special events4. CollaborationsLets talk a bit more about each of these in detail1. Product pictures - Product pictures are great, but mostly businesses tend to have quite boring product pictures for their website. Coming back to the chutney/jam example. If you already have these on a white background, great. But ideally, you want these a bit more interesting - and here is the good part, you can learn how to take good pictures. If you have a smart phone, and chances are that you do, head over to YouTube and sit through a few tutorials on how best to use your phone camera. I am being completely honest here, a large number of us simply do not understand or use these incredible cameras that we have in our pockets! As an example, I am linking two products in the shownotes. One is a Fortnum and Mason jar of Manuka honey, as pictured on their website and one is of the same jar photographed for their Instagram news feed.Website: https://www.fortnumandmason.com/products/manuka-honey-500-mgo-200gInstagram: https://www.fortnumandmason.com/products/manuka-honey-500-mgo-200gIf you go to the links via the show notes, or from my website, you will see this - their website image is a very websitey image - very clear, photographed brilliantly and to the point. The Instagram image, which, as of today, in spring 2019, has more than 1400 likes and multiple comments, is less, shall we say, formal. This is the perfect picture for social media. It shows a lot more than an image of the honey jar, it shows the packaging and has a slightly blurry background, but with fairy lights. It shows how the honey is special, it is sitting on other honey jars and looks lovely and homey and comfy. The look and feel of the two images is very different and you can tell exactly why each is perfect for its purpose. The Instagram image simply connects more with the audience ! If you read the captions on both - their website and their Instagram picture of the SAME product, you will see that they are different. We will definitely talk about captions in a lot more detail in another episode!2. Behind the scenes - This is a great way of connecting with your audience and finding the like minded potential customers and clients. I remember that in the early days of Facebook, when I was experimenting a lot, I posted an image of my rather messy office desk. I invited photo replies from my followers of their own messy desks - and lo and behold, there was a connection! My post resonated with my followers and before I knew it, I was inundated with images of messy desks! The reason this worked was because it connected with my audience on a very basic level. When my workshop is all set up before a cake class, I always shoot a quick video. By the way, I am pretty much never in the video! I am fairly camera shy. The videos are a reminder to my audience that I have a physical workshop, that we do not offer online cake courses and that THIS Is where everyone learns baking. And it works - images of my workshop yield some of the highest levels of engagement. Behind the scenes is a powerful tool and you do not have to be on camera. Showing off your process of work, absolutely works and you get an instant connection with your audience. The best place to do so is on Facebook and Instagram stories - the footage is usually very raw and you can use gifs very effectively.Behind the scenes connects you to your audience in a way that no website can - they see who you are, why you do what you do and your personality shines through. In this increasingly competitive business world, if your customers and clients see a little bit of themselves in you, they are more likely to buy your product or services. Think about it - you probably have your own favourite shops that you shop from. Sometimes, price and quality remaining the same, we simply PREFER one shop to another. Its because we feel more comfortable there. This comfort is what behind the scenes does for you and your business on social media. It connects you and your customer on a level that up until now was simply not possible.3. Special events - This is a big one and I sometimes wonder if magazine editorial calendars were simply commercial decisions! Lets take it from the start - New Year, Valentines Day, Mothers Day, spring, Easter, May bank holidays, Fathers Day, summer, August bank holiday, summer holidays in general, back to school, autumn, halloween, thanksgiving, pumpkins, Christmas and then winter. Then, peppered among all of this will be your local holidays and events. I know that Diwali, Rakshabandhan and Holi are big Indian festivals, then there is Eid and Chinese New Year. Lets not forget the National Donut Days of our social media calendars. My point is, if you are wondering about WHAT to post about, you can always find a special event. Your job is to weave the special event into your work and make it into content. Simple graphics celebrating the event are the simplest ideas. A simple illustration that is true to your brand style simply saying “Happy Mothers Day” is great content. Do stay true to your own branding though - if you are a chutney maker and you have big hairy dudes on Harley Davidsons saying Happy Mothers Day on your news feed (unless they appear elsewhere, eating your chutney!) - that won’t quite work out, would it? Incorporating special events into your news feed is a great way to connect to what your audience will be thinking about around that time of the year.4. Collaborations - Collaborations are a great way to increase your visibility on social media. If you are unsure about how to go about collaborating, do not worry. Everyone starts somewhere. Simply send a message requesting a collaboration to an account that you like. Ideally, it should be similarly sized as yours and have a similar audience. Collaborations could be going on Instagram live together. It could be working together to produce new pictures and videos. Collaborations make your account more interesting and break up the news feed a bit - they are excellent because you get access to a whole new set of people who are probably your ideal clients - and so does your collaborator. It is a win-win situation! So there you have it, four of my tried and tested content creation ideas. There are a million other ideas out there, but these are four pretty solid ones to start with. In future episodes of this podcast, I will talk about simple photography - they keyword being SIMPLE. You do not need fancy equipment for social media photographs. If you have fancy equipment, great, but you really do not need it. I will also talk about simple graphic design, using ready made content and caption writing. If there is anything specific that you would like me to talk about, please do send me a direct message on Instagram, my account is @yoursocialmediajourney.Thank you for listening. Are you ready for a refresher course on business valuations? Mary Beth Koester is Rea's Director of Valuation & Transaction Advisory Services joins unsuitable to walk us through the basics: What is a valuation, why do business owners need one, and what other valuable services does a valuation support? We'll answer these questions and more using some real-life examples. Why Should I Get a Valuation (If I'm Not Looking to Sell)? When most business owners think of valuations, they tend to think of it in the context of a liquidity event, such as a partner passing away, estate planning, or succession planning. However, it's also just part of a good business strategy and planning for the future. If you are a business owner or executive, you will be interested in these other topics discussed in this episode: How the stock market affects business valuations Valuations for “lifestyle companies” How you can use valuations for business planning & risk assessment If you liked this episode of unsuitable on Rea Radio, let us know by hitting the like button or by sharing it with your followers on social media. Gil Friend, Chief Sustainability Officer at the City of Palo Alt, joins Sustainable Nation to discuss: Leading sustainability in silicon valley The role of a Chief Sustainability Officer in government Addressing the complex issue of transportation in cities Advice for other sustainability professionals Gil Friend's Final Five responses: What is one piece of advice you'd like to give sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? For sustainability professional, I would say diversify your education and background. We need to be thinking about biology and ecology. We need to be thinking about business and finance. We need to be thinking about physics and engineering. Need to be thinking about a politics and persuasion and fundamentally how to have engaged powerful conversations, even with people who don't see things the same way we do. What are you most excited about today in the world of sustainability and regenerative development? Let me answer both of those separately. In the world sustainability, I'm most excited about the growing attention to getting the prices right, to exposing the subsidies that support the fossil fuel industry, and to putting a price on carbon so the marketplace can actually help us make intelligent decisions about where we invest and where we buy. With regard to regenerative development, I think just the fact that that word is on the landscape is a very hopeful sign. You know, sustainability in itself not a terribly exciting concept. It speaks to kind of keeping things the way they have been in the way that they've been isn't good enough. So more and more people are talking about how do we build regenerative economies that actually grow the creative and productive capacity of our communities. And I'm pleased to be participating in a first conference on building a regenerative economy scheduling San Francisco for early May. So we'll see more about that. And what was the name of that conference? Regenerative Economies What is one book you'd recommend sustainability professionals read? Drawdown. Recently released the edited by Paul Hawken with a team of a couple of hundred, a brilliant researchers who've looked in detail, how do you slow climate change, but how do you reverse it? How do you slow the emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, but actually draw them down, reduced carbon in the atmosphere. A hundred analytically vetted, detailed supported strategies that can actually do that. Full of detail, full of inspiration, a really critical handbook for us all right now. What are some tools or resources that really help you in the work that you do? Great question. I would say the general class of visual visualization tools, I find really powerful. Tools that help people see the trends and the patterns in the data. Not Looking through reviews of spreadsheets or pages and pages of text, but simple pictures and graphs that show the change of trends over time. The ratios of things we care about. So not just energy use, but energy use per dollar of revenue per capita population. And the comparative benchmarks that show my city, my company, my department in my household is doing compared to others, because that's one of the most powerful ways of unlocking, not just the competitive spirit, but the sense of possibility. If someone is doing the same thing that I'm doing and doing it better than me, in theory, I could do it better. There's something to learn there. So that's been very powerful tool for us. Finally, where can our listeners follow you and the work that you are leading at Palo Alto? Thank you for asking. They can follow me on twitter at Gfriend, and on linkedin. They can follow on my website at natlogic.com. You'll see my writing there and I've just started doing a monthly column at Green Biz. First one just published last week was about how businesses can learn to navigate the anthropocene. And I think we don't have time for the definition, but you will find it right at the top of the article there.

The Double-Edged Sword of Going PublicThe past week has left Ashley in tears because she has realized that going public with her initial Facebook Live video has brought a mountain of social pressure to perform. She commented that she felt like the world was watching, and says, I never thought that it was ever going to be like that. I really thought that my first video was just going to be for me mostly, and then maybe some close family members, who paid attention on Facebook. She continues, And it just skyrocketed. It went viral overnight. It was definitely a blessing I met you, and we've created this amazing platform for anyone who wants to do a start-up. But it's also a double-edged sword because now it's a very public proclamation of this is what I'm going to do and this is what I'm going to achieve, and hopefully, I don't fail publicly. It's interesting to listen to her discuss the social pressures of being a budding celebrity. It's something many of us think about, but few of us ever experience. Will she rise above the social anxiety of having all eyes on her, or will she buckle under the fear of failing in public?2. Hiring the Right People for the RoleAshley learned her first major lesson in human resources. She said that the person she thought she knew well failed in the front desk position because the woman wasn't experienced. She knew nothing about insurance and quit after the first two days! It's a tough call. Do you hire people with experience or do you hire people you know and like?Having a great personality and attitude is helpful for taking good care of customers, but that's not all there is to it. Ashley has now realized the importance of hiring people with experience.Luckily, a well-experienced person has expressed interest in filling the role. Will she show up and meet all of Ashley's expectations, or will Ashley need to keep looking for a suitable front desk manager?3. Not Looking at Money in Business Can Hurt YouAshley talks about how she never wanted to open the practice for the sake of money, but now realizes she should have looked at the practical aspects of running a business better.Clients are nearly banging down Ashley's door to get a seat in the brand-new, stylish facility. The problem is, she hasn't finished setting up the insurance system and a way to collect money. Without these things, she won't be able to meet her overhead. She's even questioning how much time she's spent in marketing, and whether she should have looked at finances and systems instead.Ashley warns anyone seeking to set up a dental practice to make sure they have systems like insurance set up months in advance of opening the doors. This week's episode is intense as she describes what it feels like to be responsible for several people's income, but with no way to collect money at the register. Will Ashley be able to accept insurance-carrying patients soon, or will she be forced to use her bank loans to pay her employees?Help-A-DentistAshley wants to know about membership services and is asking all listeners to help. What do you use for in-house membership plans? There are many options, but she needs help deciding. Do you do it yourself? Do you auto-debit every month? Do you use Compassionate Finance? Ashley needs help. Jodie grew up to lose both parents due to cancer and she herself, developed hyperthyroidism and had to take medication that left her lacking in energy. She didn’t really get her brain and life back until when she saw a herbalist – then her mind started to clear and she started looking at nutrition – which lead to cleaning up her diet. It was a slow process because she was still fatigued and tired with two young children though getting better all the time. Having a Degree in Agribusiness she has had a keen interest in food production. But realised that industrial factory farming was denaturing food. That wheat may have two fungicide treatments and insecticide treatments, plus it will have a coating before it sprouts into a plant (see neonicotinoids) http://www.ourplanet.org/greenplanetfm/karen-wealleans-pat-baskett-dangers-of-neonicotinoids?A=SearchResult&SearchID=3175113&ObjectID=12741231&ObjectType=35 but there is no scientific research on all of this. Supermarket foods today are problematic as there are so many ‘snack bargains’ available and in many ways we are reluctant or unable to address this addictive behaviour. Mainstream media is basically failing in addressing this due to vested interests and advertising revenue from the ‘food’ industry. Especially in relation to very recent new chemicals being introduced into food, since most of these chemicals were not around 20 years ago and thus we were not eating them way back then. Michael Moore the documentary maker in the US has put on record how big food researchers, explore ‘crave-ability’ and scan people’s brains to see the dopamine spurt when exposed to certain food, - how it sounds and tastes - as scientists want to know what is going on at deeper levels within our brain using hard science. The addiction’s are more than sugar, they are carbohydrates – wheat, potatoes and salt in that mix – and we are not addressing the addictive nature of these foods. Because to the snack food industry - with addictive foods, you will always get a repeat purchase. The other fact of the matter is - that Main Stream Media ‘MSM’ in many cases state that chronic illness that’s in the world today - has a genetic factor – when it could actually be up to 85% plus related to diet and exposures and we know that most exposures comes in through the mouth. That wheat may have two fungicide treatments and insecticide treatments, plus it will have a coating before it sprouts into a plant (see neonicotinoids) but there is no scientific research on all of this. Plus, there are chemicals in bread to keep it as fresh as possible. Including the possibility of soy and corn products – as seen on a great amount of supermarket food packaging and many of these may have been derived from GMO sources as well. Most mum’s will possibly only read one article every few years to warn them of what is in food – but it usually happens only when a child becomes ill, or the parents go down with an ailment, will they then start to look at what they are eating – meanwhile their life becomes very stressful and they suffer a drop in energy – losing momentum for vibrant living and well being. We need an active and diverse media in NZ but regrettably this it is not happening. That we have to wake up to the fact that we do not have ‘conscious’ media in NZ - especially covering the multiple interrelationships around products and their safety. Governments are supposedly to be trusted, however we are rapidly noticing that they are not taking the electorate into consideration when once they did. There are fiduciary obligations that should not be breached. The NZEPA - Environmental Protection Authority is poorly funded (just like in the USA where it is deliberately underfunded) That the NZ EPA, just can not keep up with the onslaught of chemicals and new products and flora and fauna entering NZ that they just can not research and check out prior to being allowed into our environment or market place. Plus, with trade and the need for the economic wheels to keep turning – there has become a slow compromise of standards, as overworked EPA can not keep up with their responsibilities and activity that is continuously increasing. This is because the guidelines - the protocols that the scientists have to asses, in this case pesticides are both outdated and have an exceptionally narrow focus. This has resulted in that ‘we’ are not engaging in the in-depth studies of insecticides, pesticides and fungicides. They are NOT LOOKING at the full formulation. Most farmers know that the full formulation is more toxic. None of these full formulations when sprayed on a crop, are looked at from a combined formulation. They are all only looked at separately. This means that when you mix all the effects of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides together - the accumulative effect of all three - have a knock on effect that has not been researched or studied. So we have an underfunded Government scientific institution given a contract with very limited scope that they ‘only stay within the parameters of what they have been given to study.’ They are not told to look outside these areas – so they are not really looking out for the public good, for in many ways the perception is they are just ticking the boxes. Therefore we have children today being exposed to a huge onslaught of chemicals (Remember the slogan Clean Green NZ) – plus the sugar load – no wonder our children are become sicker at a younger age due to this toxic overload - especially from wheat products. So though we seem to live longer (with more drugs to keep us alive) we are having more young becoming ill as a result to all these chemical exposures. Note, that the biotech corporations give the Government their specs and data and there are definitely limitations with the data offered, solely because they want to get their product onto the market as soon as possible and they are not always forthcoming with data that could compromise them. Doctors are not able to speak out as ‘big Pharma’ is looking over their every move and doctors risk losing their license if they become critical of the chemicals that are persuasive in the food chain. As a result doctors in NZ are 15 years behind with what is truly going on. They are doing their best, but without Government sanctioning of top quality, honest food education, their task in many ways is like being the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. There is a need for honest Government talking about clean food – no junk food advertising – that we are today so far from a responsible Government. The 2016 NZ Government Health Strategy came out recently but it was more like a communication strategy talking about prevention but they never mentioned what prevention was - they never talked about clean food or the tsunami of sugar addiction. This interview mentions the challenges to communicate to NZers, especially mothers about ‘good practice’ and safe eating and it is a huge task - as most magazines sell the sizzle - the hype of fancy dishes looking and smelling tempting and delicious. Not their health contents. Mothers are endeavoring to share and use FaceBook to communicate their needs and it is not helping parents fast enough to find the answers because they are often looking in the wrong place - when the game is to simply clean up your eating act and take in more organic produce that has never been sprayed or been fed chemicals. MSM – just won’t go there. (Just like in the USA) That Glyphosate is sprayed now on our pastures and it’s on our food crops, on our pathways, it’s in our drains, along our roadsides, around our parks and no Council is testing for ‘Roundup’s - glyphosate in the groundwater – ‘none’ nor are they looking for it in our drains, creeks and river systems – WHY? Even Monsanto’s studies in Europe have found it in Europe’s groundwater and river systems. Recently 41 Green MP’s from 14 countries in the European Union were tested for Glyphosate in their urine and all 41 averaged 4 times the allowable amount for the EU and the Green MPs would eat and drink more organic food than the average European, by far. We are just not looking at the fungicides and insecticides and the run-off from the land into the drains, creeks and rivers – So the question being asked is - where is the hard science testing for all these chemicals and the cumulative effects of them? Most farmers are not told of the hidden dangers especially of the cumulative effect. Only when insects, bird and marine life become affected will we see that this matches the ill health that children are starting to be impacted by. There is hidden secret science that is being kept from us because MSM are basically in the hands of big business. Is Glyphosate in NZ milk products? Evidently no one in NZ is using the ‘latest leading edge technology’ to test for glyphosate in milk that has passed through the mammalian system. See Monica Kruger – European study http://www.gmoevidence.com/dr-kruger-glyphosate-is-toxic-to-dairy-cows/ Basically science and the systems that the NZ Government have set up are failing people in NZ, and by default overseas buyers of our produce? Note that Glyphosate can be sprayed on wheat crops – so do some research yourself. As well as oil seeds – canola and your vegetable oils like soy used in convenience foods most are GMO’s and have been sprayed with Roundup. Baby formulas and infant formulas, become very problematic when there is no robust testing. In the NZ dairy industry – we need transparent protocols because Glyphosate is being used on NZ pastures before stock is grazed on it. NZ farmers are being TOLD that it is SAFE – so when one day the newsflashes on at 6PM screaming out that overseas somewhere - tests have found glyphosate in the milk – we can then look to Monsanto’s scientists for accountability. This could be impacting animal health, sperm and egg levels causing deformities – we have not seen the tests. Bread – what is it doing to us and our children? Because of chemicals in our food we can not always see what’s actually happening in our food. Because anti fungicides keep the fungus at bay, same as preservatives in meat - stop it from spoiling early. We have to become far more aware. Safer regulation makes for safer food – the EU has good regulation ERPA in NZ is much closer to trade based interests than to Mothers … Europe has recently made a recommendation in regard to Roundup and Glyphosate based herbicides that it should not be sprayed on food crops anymore and the major adjuvants or ingredients in the formulation – called POEA – should be taken out of Roundup and it should never be used around parks and where children congregate or play. These recommendations are light years ahead of the NZ EPA and country wide regulations. Julia Rutledge professor http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/profiles/staff/people/julia_rucklidge.shtmlnzh How do we get the message out? Talk with your friends over a cup of tea and coffee, at cafes, at school events, at sports in weekends. Use FB appropriately plus link to good alternative media and be adroit - put your needs out among your friends. Web search – put blog in front and after a few pages of commercial posts you get to some very interesting info Listen to Ted talks or other programs – even GPFM. When it comes to children eating industrial farmed food we are at present in a global emergency. It is that developing babies, to infants, to children all the way up through their teens whose health is in balance. This is the critical time in the formation of all of their organs and growing body. For adults it is different we are in essence fully formed so it is not as critical when compared to growing children. So the imperative is to get organised to make sure we have a healthy future for all children and grandchildren. www.rite-demands.org http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2016/05/03/glyphosate-food.aspx https://www.amazon.com/How-Not-Die-Discover-Scientifically/dp/1250066115

A presentation crafted in a devotion to the art of creating a style unique, the collection of songs reveals one of the Americana movement's most honest and compelling talents. Born in Freetown, IN, Pedigo's mid-western charm is matched by his ability to capture a listening audience with handcrafted lyrics, expressive vocals and Chet-like pickin'. With the will and work ethic of a Heartlander, Pedigo's passion led him to the heart of Music City where life as a recording artist, songwriter, musician, husband, father and friend shaped a sonic chapter of Pedigo's life called THE CROSS EYED SESSIONS. Mastered by five-time Grammy Award winning producer Ray Kennedy, the project captures the authentic and organic recording process within each song. Arriving in Nashville, he caught the ear of legendary songwriter Earl Bud Lee ("Friends In Low Places"/Garth Brooks, "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking"/Blake Shelton) who nurtured Pedigo's inherent song-crafting ability. In 2006, Pedigo recorded his first full-production record WHAT I WAS RUNNING FROM (featuring Buddy Miller on guitar) and released the single "Mama's Wedding Gown" (produced by Larry Crane) the following year. The complementary music video qualified the tune as a finalist on the CMT Music City Madness Singer/Songwriter's Competition Top 20 Video Countdown dubbing Pedigo as "the hard-rocking heartthrob from the heartland."
