Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, but it doesn't have to be. You can achieve so much more with business collaboration and support from others. So this week, Tanya Alvarez of OwnersUp sits down with A.J. to chat about the importance of community building for entrepreneurs and how she's helping owners to team up and scale faster. They go into the details of finding the right network, keeping each other in check, and growing faster together.About Tanya AlvarezTanya Alvarez is the founder of OwnersUp, a platform revolutionizing how service-based founders scale their businesses. She's a Miami native with Colombian heritage who built a 7-figure ad agency (Blink Ads) from scratch at just 25. But Tanya found her entrepreneurial journey isolating and overwhelming, which motivated her to create OwnersUp. Now, she helps other successful business owners to collaborate, share challenges, and hold each other accountable. Beyond her business successes, Tanya is a proud parent and a seasoned marathoner, having completed the Boston, NYC, and a Half Ironman marathons despite living with a rare bone condition. She's also an avid traveler who has visited over 42 countries and loves learning about other cultures. What potential pitfalls to look out for in business collaboration?Business collaboration often comes with a multitude of benefits. However, not all collaborations are created equal, and certain pitfalls can turn an exciting partnership into a tricky situation. Here are some potential issues to be aware of:Speaking Different Business Languages: Entrepreneurs, although united in their drive for success, often have unique paths, ideologies, and business languages. If these do not align, collaboration can be difficult. It's essential to find a common ground and clear, effective communication language from the get-go.Differing Expectations: A collaboration can quickly go downhill if expectations aren't clarified and agreed upon upfront. From financials to time commitment, ensure everything is out in the open and agreed upon to minimize potential surprises down the road.Culture Clash: Every business has its unique culture. If the company cultures of the collaborating parties don't go well, the partnership could face challenges. Ensure both parties share common values and vision before sealing the deal.Successful business collaborations depend on paying attention to potential problems. If you address these issues from the start, you can achieve a better partnership and accomplish your common goals.Key Insights:Build your support network. Start by actively seeking out communities of fellow entrepreneurs, both online and offline. Don't just network—seek genuine connections where you can both offer and receive support and guidance. That's how you'll build a strong support system that will help you thrive personally and grow professionally. Not every opportunity is worth pursuing. Create a system to evaluate new opportunities that come your way so that you're not distracted by shiny new objects and lose focus from the bigger picture. This can be a checklist of criteria or a monthly review with your mentor or even a peer group. This process will help you assess if an idea is worth pursuing and help you stay focused on what truly matters for your business.Establish a routine that works for you. Schedule weekly planning sessions to reflect on your personal and business goals. Use this time to adjust your workload and plan future activities, but also incorporate time for rest and personal interests. This routine will help you ensure you're headed in a good direction with your business but, at the same time, keep you grounded and balanced in all aspects of your life.Decide what success means to you. Take the time to define success for yourself, considering both your personal and business values. Once you are clear on that, let these ideas help you make decisions for your business that align with these values, moving steadily toward your vision of success.Use business collaboration for accountability. As an entrepreneur, partnering with a like-minded individual or joining a business-focused group can keep you accountable. This involves sharing your goals, tracking your progress, and tackling any setbacks together. Regular check-ins inspire motivation, helping you stay committed to your entrepreneurial vision.Tanya's best advice for entrepreneurs:“Entrepreneurs are always looking into, like business growth, profit… But what about yourself? Your own well-being? Who keeps you in check on that?”Connect with Tanya:LinkedInInstagramOwnersUp WebsiteResources Mentioned:Benjamin Franklin's Daily RoutineFollow Beyond 8 Figures:LinkedinXWebsite

MethodThe R.A.P. method, developed by Tanya Alvarez, is a systematic approach designed for entrepreneurs to enhance their daily productivity and maintain focus on their most impactful tasks. It's a reflective process that encourages regular review and assessment, allowing for the prioritization of actions that drive the most value for their businesses.Review (R): Reflect on the day's activities, noting accomplishments and areas of improvement. This is a time for celebration of what was achieved and understanding what could be done better.Assess (A): Evaluate the day on a scale of one to five to determine what made it a five and what didn't. This helps in identifying what tasks or actions contribute to the most productive days.Prioritize (P): Decide on the top three tasks that, if completed, would make the next day successful. These should be tasks that align with the overall business objectives and personal goals. This method goes beyond simple task management; it's a strategic approach for entrepreneurs to align their daily actions with their larger business goals. By implementing the R.A.P. method, founders can ensure that their efforts are not just busywork but are meaningful steps towards their company's growth and success. It's a tool for turning the chaotic hustle into a directed effort that pays off in the long run.

This mission is the source of developing a platform where owners team up and scale faster.Tanya's big secret about defying the odds is always to have a small group of people encourage you to move forward, be your cheerleaders and champions rooting for you, and will refuse to let you fail. It's all about time management and compartmentalizing to get things done. Removing bias to start prioritizing goals, and becoming aware of the problem. When your default is what you're most comfortable with and doing things you prefer, or being biased when you think there's only one way to achieve a goal when there are so many other opportunities out there. Values are the first that Tanya focuses on in the process of facilitating entrepreneurs. When you make decisions that are not clear or prioritized, you will start feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. If you start pursuing goals based on your values, your life becomes seamless. Declare your values, exercise them, find out what lights you up, and picture what you want. Then you'll start seeing the pattern of what you value most. The next step is to rank your values, and then figure out if they will add or take away from you. When dealing with business goals is to go through the lens of capacity. How many clients do you need where you can't take on more, or what is each of your employee's capacity? The next one is sales. What is your closing and marketing conversion? Do you have leads? The third step is once you figure out three different variables. Number one is how much effort and time it'll take you. Number two is impact, looking at the outcome. The last part about goal prioritization is removing the bias. After ranking what's gonna give you the best return on your time and investment, the next thing you wanna do is ask your group of people to validate it.It's a compounding effect when you're part of a group. Not only do they help you remove bias, and let go of the feeling that you're the only one who has to do everything. Once you let go, outsource, and delegate it is an amazing epiphany. In this episode:[01:50] Tanya is like Gung Ho, teaching others how to defy the odds.Having a group of people encouraging you to move forward and refusing to let you fail.Going through that rollercoaster of life and entrepreneurship.[04:00] Having something so much more important to work for.Making sure you're focused on the right things and prioritizing what's important to you.Time management and compartmentalizing to get things done.[07:00] When your default is comfort and only doing what you prefer.Having projects based on bias. How Tanya facilitates entrepreneurs to conceptualize and focus on getting things done.[10:30] Make decisions based on your goals and values.Dealing with business goals is going through the lens of capacity.Having three different variables of effort, impact, and bias removal.[13:30] When you build systems before having a pipeline. Not knowing if the system will resolve a pain point you're resolving...

GP practice owners are business people as well as clinicians – this budget week, we hear about some of the issues that concern them most. GP practice owners are a bit like ducks, says Dr Jared Dart, a director of the Australian General Practice Alliance (AGPA), a GP practice owner and the co-founder of Welio, a telehealth platform designed to enhance practice viability. “They look like they're floating, but under the surface they're paddling fiercely,” he says in this week's episode of The Tea Room. “And the biggest problem is practice principals have nowhere to go. A GP can retrain or go on sick leave, but principals only have one option: to sell, and unfortunately, many are doing just that.” AGPA, formed in 2016, aims to represent the interests of GP practice owners like these. This week, Treasurer Jim Chalmers had inflation firmly in his sights when framing the first Labor Budget since 2013. Inflation is now one of the toughest challenges facing owners. “Medical inflation over the past two years has been particularly high,” says Dr Dart. “Our costs are at least 10% higher in our practice, and that's across the board – from electricity, wages and consumables to cleaning and rent. “Add into the mix things like payroll tax, which could bankrupt a practice principal, and you can understand why the stress is significant.” But it's not all darkness. Dr Dart firmly believes in the GP-owned business model, which puts purpose before profit, and says he stands on the shoulders of those who owned his practice before him. “They delivered the babies, they did the house calls, they took out the appendices, and the goodwill that builds over time is incredible,” he says. However, he also believes practice owners don't have adequate representation on the Strengthening Medicare Taskforce, which could compromise the panel's success. “They are missing out on the opportunity to take the perspective of people who run and implement general practice every day,” he says, “and the challenge I see is that the taskforce may not actually want to hear the truth.” Hosted on Acast. Overcoming self doubt and finding one’s light… Tanya Alvarez, Co-Founder of Owners Up (a community of solopreneurs that help you achieve your business goals and technology that tracks your accomplishments – (bio)), joins Julie Chan at the MouthMedia Network Studios.Challenge despite success, a passion to help, and the genesis of Owners Up Alvarez revisits her purpose reading from Chan a year ago, being born in NY and raised in Miami by single parent, growing a company at the age of 25 to more than $1 Million in revenue and selling it, starting a fifth company, the importance of always having a team around you, giving entrepreneurs a success structure to take on the world, how she pulled out of raising money for a company to get more life balance, and her passion was helping entrepreneurs but didn’t want to be labeled a business coach, wanting to make a difference, putting entrepreneurs in groups of five and a providing a successful facilitator, weekly calls, software to write goals along with a daily wrap up, and the ability to chart data for skills/weaknesses, data and metrics. How the “you from a month ago” can coach you when encountering obstacles.Seer of truth, seeking transformation, and white light vs. dark light Chan reviews Alvarez’s prior purpose meeting with five to six pages of channeled text of blocks, actions, thought impressions, and images made up of something like a metaphor resembling streaming video. Chan’s reading includes images of a seer of truth and detail, seeking transformation, finding wisdom, truth, and value potential that no one else can see and helping them to bring it into fruition, zooming into what is causing the pain, the white light of love, and a ball of dark light, and asking where is your light.Fighting ego, a need to blend in, and audaciousness, vulnerability and leadership Label vs. impact of efforts, getting to the point of being able to say yes to the offers such as getting on the stage, and how having a team around her Alvarez can do big challenges. But speaking was another thing, being in the spotlight. Deciding what you want to do, who to impact, the importance of being seen. How fear goes away after practice. Alvarez’s interview with CNN on TV as a big growth from a life of wanting to blend in, and the impact of keeping the goals in mind and in front of you. Being audacious, vulnerable, and a leader. What is Alvarez’s superpower? How to not stay in negative modes, and how helping someone helps shake negativity. And, looking at your life through a certain “tint”. Plus, being held accountable, prioritizing values, the defaults for sabotage, and knowing one’s goals will happen.
