Easy Strategies to Move Out of Your Comfort Zone

How do you know when you're in your comfort zone? Do you ever pay attention or think about if you're working and living to your full potential? Or are you just coasting along, following the status quo and enjoying life? Every human alive has a comfort zone. It's that space where things come easily, life is predictable, and the idea of making changes makes your palms sweat. Surprisingly, many people move through life just accepting every day as it comes, without the desire to grow or explore how they can learn and achieve more. Some older parents or grandparents actually get insulted at the idea of self-improvement, as if you're not grateful for the life you've been given. Quite the opposite is true. Self-improvement is a natural part of human evolution and we actually have the power to create changes in any area of our life where we're not satisfied. Many people go through their whole lives not understanding that power. This might sound like a heavy topic but it's an important one, especially if you feel you're not reaching the goals you've set for yourself. Keep in mind that comfort zones appear in every aspect of our lives. Career is the obvious one but it also shows up in our finances and relationships, too. In this episode, we're talking about the 4 stages of moving through your comfort zone into a new way of being. Be sure to take notes and be honest with yourself as you answer the questions. There's no shame, blame, or guilt. We all have different journeys, we'll face different hurdles, and we'll have a different timeframe for breaking free of our comfort zones. The most important thing is to be consistent with your actions and be willing to learn throughout the process. Remember, we don't develop our confidence and skillset when things are easy. Journal prompts: What holds me back from consistency? Am I ready and willing to see new opportunities for amazing things to happen? What can I do that's new this week? What can I learn? In which area of my life do I feel most stuck? Which of my current habits are not serving me right now? Quotes to remember: "What you don't acknowledge, you can't fix. Your awareness is your power." “Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real.” “This process is about progress, not perfection.” "It's not about someone's approval; it's about OUR achievement." “Your brain learns through the struggle. It wants to be challenged.” “Stop focusing on 'having' ... focus on the 'being' and 'doing'.” Resources mentioned in the show: FB Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mondaymorningmojo Download the Wheel of Life Workbook: https://www.myfcoaching.com/wheeloflife How to Fill Out the Wheel of Life (video): https://youtu.be/Cv-Fw5dgSiE Connect with Anna: Email: agibbs2@kw.com Facebook: @CoachAnnaGibbs Instagram: @CoachAnnaGibbs YouTube: @Annagibbsatkw Coaching: coachannagibbs.com To learn more about the supplements and products Anna uses to improve her overall health and well-being visit: https://plexusworldwide.com/annagibbs

Everyone talks about the concepts of value-pricing and value-selling and it sounds really good in theory. But in reality, a lot of agencies don't know how to apply it or are too scared to start taking a value pricing approach. So they go back to their tried and tested ways of pricing on fixed project fees or selling on time. So in today's podcast I want to give you five tips and strategies that you can begin using right away to start moving towards a value-based pricing and a value-based selling approach.  Time Stamp [01:56] Today's episode is sponsored by my free masterclass: “3 ways to raise your agency's prices and profits without losing clients”. I'm running this workshop 4 times this month (if you're listening live) or you'll be able to watch a replay. So check out the link below and invest 60 minutes of your time to learn some practical strategies that you can start implementing straight away.  [02:21] A story of toothache to explain value-pricing [03:23] A definition of value based selling [03:44] An example of quoting for a web design project [04:18] 5 strategies to move towards a value-based pricing and selling approach that will enable you to charge higher fees and create strong relationships with your clients [04:39] Strategy 1: From the first conversation you have with a prospect focus on the outcomes they are looking for and how they tie back to their business goals [06:35] Strategy 2: Make sure you understand how the wider business will assess the success of your campaign not just the marketing resource that you might be dealing with.  [07:07] Strategy 3: When you agree to write a proposal make sure you're constantly referencing the outcomes that the client is seeking from your work.   [07:28] Strategy 4: Price on the outcomes.  This doesn't mean you're making any kind of guarantees or offering ‘payment by results', it just means that you are getting everyone's mind focused on the transformation the client is looking for from being in pain to not being in pain. [08:11] Strategy 5: Don't discount!  If they want a lower fee and discuss which aspects of the project they don't want to include! [08:44] Pricing is 50% mindset and 50% application Quotations “Getting your pricing right is 50% mindset and 50% application.” - Rob Da Costa “Brave agencies will spend 90% of their time in a prospect meeting in fact-find mode and 10% presenting their agency.” - Rob Da Costa Rate, Review, & Subscribe on Apple Podcasts “I enjoy listening to The Agency Accelerator Podcast. Are you looking to grow your podcast? You've come to the right place! This episode shares how to get your podcast unstuck and find success. Whether you're just starting out or have been podcasting for a while, the tips shared here will help you get your audience clicking with your content. We'll provide guidance on finding and following effective strategies for growing your podcast. Weight Loss and Podcasting Instead of focusing on the goal of "I need to lose 40 lbs" focus on the actions that lead to weight loss. Starring at the scale won't make it move, and starring at your stats doesn't make them move easier.  What Do We Want Our Audience To Do? When I thought about what we want our audience to do that leads to more podcast growth, it came down to these: FIND: We need our audience to find us. To be easily found we need to know what they are looking for and word it in a way they will use. CLICK: We need our audience to click on our listing, click on our titles, click on play and click follow. FOLLOW: When your audience follows/subscribes to your show you are becoming part of their routine. Make it EASY to follow you SHARE: We want our audience to share the show with their friends. According to Jacobs media 70% of new listeners discover a podcast from their friends.  Your Show Is An Experiment Yes we would love to get our show perfect from episode one going forward. I didn't follow my own advice (and didn't get any other opinions) and named one of my shows (about the future of podcasting) "Leading the Bleeding" (as we talk about the bleeding edge of podcasting). I named another "test" show Podcast Rodeo Show (I bet you don't think its full of podcasting tips - it is). If you have to explain your show title - your might regret it later.  FIND MY SHOW MY NAME TEST When I say to someone, "I'm doing a show called ______. What do you think it's about?" and they guess correctly, I've got a good name (Especially if there are some keywords in the name).  I see people put the name of their show asonegiantword and I'm pretty sure your audience isn't going to type that in. If you want to be found by Goolge, you need a website. Check out www.trypodpage.com to make a site with Podpage, and to learn podpage, see www.learnpodpage.com  GET YOUR AUDIENCE  TO CLICK Here are some things that get people to click on your show: The name of the show. The name of the episodes The artwork An easy to find play button on your website FOLLOW AND SUBSCRIBE Search in podcast apps is getting better, but nothing beats having follow/subscribe buttons on your website. This way, when you tell people to go to your website on the special page made to follow and subscribe, it makes it easy; they don't have to "Find you," and you are reinforcing your brand. There is a great plugin, Social subscribe and follow, that makes it easy to add subscribe buttons to your WordPress Website. Here is my Follow Page, and Subscribe page. SHARE THE SHOW When your audience shares your content with their friends, you have a decent chance of getting a new listener. At Christmas, EVERYBODY was talking about the show Yellowstone. Consequently, I came home and started watching.  You do need to work on your pitch in a way that makes people want to go listen. You should practice this. When someone asks, "So, what is your show about?" they should hear a response that is um, well, kind like, um, you know, um..... There are some cool plugins for WordPress like Novashare, Social Snap, the Monarch USE THESE CRITERIA FOR MAKING A DECISIONS I worked with someone who had named their show DCBN Lifestyle. When I asked (cause they didn't explain it in the show) what it stood for it was, "Don't cook bacon naked" which made me laugh. Which one would be found easier? DCBN or Don't cook bacon naked. The audience doesn't know you've abbreviated the title and if they can't find you they will never know.  If you're thinking of naming your episode School of Podcasting 861 or How to get your podcast unstuck, which one are you going to click on? Should use create separate artwork for your episodes? She we use episode numbers in your title? Sometimes it is hard to decide (and there is nobody to ask). What do you do then?  Go with your gut. Your podcast is not a statue, and you can always change it later. GROWING YOUR PODCAST AUDIENCE Make it easy to find you by having a name the audience is looking for, easy to say, spell, and find. Have artwork that makes you stand out (and wasn't done in crayon) with episode titles that make them click. Have buttons on your website so people can follow and subscribe to your show, and while they on your website they can use the share buttons as you ask your audience listening in their favorite podcast app (because your show is everywhere) to share their show with their friends. We want to grow our audiences, let's focus on those steps that lead to our audience growth.  It all starts with knowing who your audience is, and what they want.  QUESTION OF THE MONTH This month the question is one I often do in January. What are your top podcasting pet peeves? Those little things that drive you nuts. Leave Your Answer at  www.schoolofpodcasting.com/question Deadline is 1/27/23 Where Will I Be? I've played with ChatGPT, which is somewhat like a search engine where you can ask it to write you a blog post, and it will. Remember, Google wants good words that deliver value. It does make me nervous as I can see where people could "use this for evil. I played with Revoicer (another one is Blakify is another one), which takes a script and has a robot read it. It's impressive, but almost all AI I deal with still needs a human to step in and polish the content (which, in some cases, is blatantly wrong).  We had a discussion on the Podcasters Roundtable about this and other things happening in 2023. Welcome back to The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we cover the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning (for schools) and emotional intelligence training (in the workplace) with tools, ideas and strategies that we can all use for increased results. I'm Andrea Samadi, and launched this podcast to share how important an understanding of our brain is for our everyday life and results--whether we are a teacher in the classroom, or in the modern workplace, and release content to help all of us, specifically on the topics of health, wellbeing and productivity. This weekend, I heard a message from New York Times Best Selling author of the book, High Performance Habits, Brendon Burchard[i], that got me thinking about where we are right now in the world today. He said that while there might have been times during the Pandemic where we laid low, or held back in protective mode, the pendulum has swung the other way now, and that there is a high need for us ALL to be “more productive as a nation”[ii]  as we enter this next phase of the economy, and showing up with our A-game is not just timely, but crucial. I know that listeners of this podcast are high performing, with learning new things at the top of your list, so with this in mind, for today's EPISODE #233, I wanted to go back and review our TOP 12 Most viewed YouTube Video Interviews, as chosen by you, the listener, so we can all go back to the basics, and review some of the most important lessons learned on this podcast, since we launched just over 3 years ago. I used to love listening to radio icon, Casey Kasem's American Top 40[iii] back in the 1980s on my clock radio when I was in high school, where he would leave you in suspense as he counted backwards, to the #1 song, but for this countdown, I will start with our #1 most listened to episode, with something I remember about each one, or the speaker, and a link that we can all use to revisit, and “Sharpen our Saw”[iv] as Dr. Stephen Covey would say, as we can go back and review these most listened to episodes with the 7th Habit. Since I keep an eye on the numbers of this podcast, whether it's with the audio interviews, or video, I thought it was interesting that the Top 10 list holds 8/10 people who were in our early interviews, or the 1st 100 interviews, with 2 people who came in later, and rose to the top. While I think ALL interviews hold important lessons, let's begin with our Top 12. Let the Countdown Begin… The #1 most watched interview, is our first interview with Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey, EPISODE #77 on “Developing and Delivering High Quality, Distance Learning”[v] that we can all remember came right as parents and teachers were thrown unexpectedly into the world of online learning. Watch this interview by clicking here https://youtu.be/7nLe3P50j4Q and review their tips to help all of us succeed in this every changing world. Don't miss their return to the podcast for EPISODE #161 with their new book with John Almarode, “How Learning Works”[vi] where they tie learning and the brain What I will never forget with both these interviews is the timing of them. I'm sure no one will ever forget just how disastrous it was bringing our children to at home learning, and by the time we got to revisit everyone, for EPISODE 161, we were right in the middle of the Pandemic, and I remember in the second interview, we ALL had terrible colds. None of us cancelled this interview, that we did at 6am PST but we all said prayers for family members who were struggling with COVID, and we covered the content, using all of our energy to do so. I do receive emails about 2 two specific interviews from Education Departments in different parts of the country who ask if they can use them as models for their students on best practices for interviewing as well as for the content provided, which brings me to think about the fact that regardless of how we are feeling before we have to present something, “A Pro is at their best, regardless.” (Bob Proctor).   The second most watched interview was with Howard Berg, The World's Fastest Reader, with over a 90% comprehension rate on “Simple and Easy Strategies to Improve Reading, Comprehension and Recall.” Watch this interview here https://youtu.be/Al0B6HzxtEk This was such a fun interview, as Howard is an incredible teacher who I had no idea was like me, a former swimming teacher who learned about the importance of the student “wanting to learn” to swim that he translated into learning years later. I had met Howard years before I asked him to do this interview, and followed his work, using one of his speed reading strategies with my youngest daughter to help her to stay focused with reading. (It's a common strategy of putting your finger on the page while you are reading, but Howard can show you that this practice can significantly improve reading speed and comprehension with many other important tips to improve memory and learning, that I think includes using humor to engage your students. The third most watch interview is with Suzanne Gundersen on “The Polyvagal Theory in Practice” that you can watch here https://youtu.be/WCFrygUG-UI Understanding the Polyvagal Theory, and how our body shifts between rest and digest, fight or flight and total shut down became important for educators in the classroom to understand the states of minds of their students, and why they were acting certain ways, with strategies that can be used to calm down a student who might be struggling. I'm not going to skip this bit of feedback that you can read in the comment section of this interview, because it's important that when we receive constructive criticism that we hear it. This interview on stress reduction, I do hear often “why did you choose that hyper music for a stress-reducing interview?” The answer is pretty simple, I try not to be defensive, and hear the criticism, so I can take it in to learn and improve, but I honestly had no idea what music to use when I first started out. I can see now that I should have chosen a calmer selection of music for this interview.  We are all learning together here.  The 4th most watch interview is with Dawson Church on his Bliss Brain Book and Daily Meditations. Watch the interview here https://youtu.be/bH8yVKHjFN4 While I still use Dawson Church's meditations EVERY morning, that you can access through his book, I really could have used them in the interview when my landscapers came, and my dog Nitro went cray, barking for what felt like an eternity.  Dr. Church was a pro and explained “The Neuroscience Behind Remodeling our Brain for Happiness, Resilience and Joy” without skipping a beat. When this happened, I could see his calm brain in action, and it really did show from my end, knowing there was a lot of noise that I did cut out.  The fifth most watched interview is about Dr. Anna Lembke's popular book, “Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence” where she takes us through the fact that “we are all running from something” and looking at where we are out of balance using her strategies to help tip us back to balance, towards increased energy and productivity. I had to reach out to Dr. Lembke after seeing her on Dr. Huberman's podcast, and she continues to show up on podcasts in my stream to this day, as this topic isn't losing its importance. Watch this interview here https://youtu.be/5Pu82wZRZwo What I loved about this interview was that she was all about “finding balance” and explained how it was possible to do this. She shared that we don't need to give up those things that we love, but take a break from them, and you will notice a brain reset in the process. In 6th place, we have Dr. David Sousa with his series “How the Brain Learns” that was handed to me from an educator over 8 years ago, who urged me to go in the direction of neuroscience. Dr. Sousa's series that's now in its 5th edition, is one of the books I picked up when first beginning to understand how our brain learns to read, do math, how the ELL brain learns, or the special needs brain learns—each book explains the science behind learning and the brain. Watch our first interview here for EPISODE #78 https://youtu.be/4welQLkKm5I and then review our second interview when this book went into Its 5th edition here https://youtu.be/148InRAxFts In 7th place, we have Marc Brackett with his early interview, EPISODE #22 on his book, Permission to Feel that you can watch here https://youtu.be/CeOzi8ZrFO4. I still follow Marc's inspiring work, but what I love seeing the most is when someone's work comes full circle. If you follow Marc on Instagram, you would have seen the post about his niece, Esme, who recently graduated from high school, and Marc posted a beautiful photo of the two of them, and wrote that he hopes that he is “as good an uncle to her as her grandfather (Marc's Uncle Marvin who inspired his work) was to him.” (Marc Brackett). When I think of the thousands of schools using Marc's Ruler approach, and the mark he's made on the world, I can't even begin to imagine how much he's inspired this young lady. I might just have to find her, and interview her to find out! Licensed and board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) Jessica Minahan comes in 8th with her book “The Behavior Code” that helps us to all understand and teach the most challenging students. Jessica's work was referred to me by Greg Wolcott, who we have interviewed on this podcast, twice, and Greg often sends over ideas and suggestions for speakers to feature. I wish I knew about The Behavior Code when I was a first-year teacher, facing a classroom filled with behavioral students. You can watch this interview here https://youtu.be/oQqFN110gMM  Mark Robert Waldman, comes in 9th with EPISODE #30 on “Brain-Based Experiential Learning and Living” where Mark began exploring the importance of mindfulness with creativity, and productivity that I learned first-hand in his Neurocoaching Certifcation Program, (that took me 2 years to complete). His program is the ONLY program led by University faculty who are currently doing peer- reviewed brain-scan research in the field of Network Neuroscience. If you watch this interview, you will see how Mark loves teaching everyone how to maximize our brain power for improved results, when it comes to money, happiness and success. He is now working on a new book with Andy Newberg, MD. On “Balancing Your Default Mode Network” Watch our interview here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54bmB6_gPGc  The 10th spot goes to Todd Woodcroft who at the time was an Assistant Coach with the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL. He's since moved up to a Head Coach Position with D1 Men's College Hockey, but if you follow his work, you would see that he still remains closely tied with the NHL, male and female player development as well as youth development. Our interview on “Embracing the Daily Grind in the NHL” is applicable for all of us, whether we are a teacher in the classroom, a coach, or working in the corporate world, as he makes a strong case for the daily habits that are embraced, not feared at the pro sports level. What's interesting with this interview, is that it's another case of things coming full circle, as many of the people Todd mentions in this interview (2 years ago), or who he worked with, have now moved forward in their career, using these principles, including himself, which to me shows that there is a science to success. When we “embracing the daily grind” or do things a certain way, we can attain predictable results. Watch this interview here https://youtu.be/uNFT4-Yg_kI  Kelly Roman comes in at #11 with our interview on the Fisher Wallace wearable medical device that combats insomnia, anxiety and depression. I just released EPISODE 231[vii] where I recap my personal review of this device that I didn't even know existed until interviewing Kelly Roman. You can watch our interview here https://youtu.be/jCtbngfXoYg that Kelly says is his all-time favorite interview. I think it's neat to look back to this interview, when I had no idea that a device like this even existed, to see my personal review that improved my sleep by much more the gold standard of 20 minutes each night. When I wrote this review of the device, I began getting emails about my experience, and whether I still use the device, leading me to release that recent update, sharing that I still do in fact use the Fisher Wallace device to keep my WASO scores low, and now that I know it increases serotonin, I'm sure it does help my mood to be more even keeled and worry less about life's usual stressors.  John Ratey, MD comes in 12th on our countdown with our interview #116 on “The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.” You can watch this interview here https://youtu.be/ZTa1zwpQcxQ  for a reminder of how important moving our body is for the proper functioning of our brain.  When I reviewed Dr. Ratey's interview, I was reminded of the intense research I do on each guest. I'm not sure where I read that Dr. Ratey spent some time as a Zen Monk, but I think it was something he hadn't thought about for some time. I often refer back to Dr. Ratey's interview where I first began to make the connection with the importance of exercise for learning and retention.  I could keep counting down and reviewing the Top 40, like Kasey Casem's Show, but I would be here writing all night.  To close out today's EPISODE #233, I wanted to go back to what I heard Brendon Burchard mention over the weekend, with the importance of ramping up our learning, and that we must become more productive as a nation. It's not the time to shrink back, and be protective, but lean forward, review our goals, notice what's working, and what isn't, “Sharpen Our Saw” and then move forward with everything that we've got. I hope that reviewing our TOP 12 most watched interviews gives you some ideas to gain more clarity and perspective with whatever it is that you are working on, raising your ambition to do just a bit more, and show up, with you're A game for a strong last half of 2022. So in today's podcast, I want to give you five tips and strategies that you can begin using right away to start moving towards a value-based pricing and a value-based selling approach.  Time Stamp [01:08] Today's episode is sponsored by my free masterclass: “3 ways to raise your agency's prices and profits without losing clients”. I'm running this workshop 4 times this month (if you're listening live) or you'll be able to watch a replay. [07:23] Strategy 5: Don't discount! If they want a lower fee and discuss which aspects of the project they don't want to include! 3 Easy Strategies for Dealing with Tantrums in Your Classroom

The Teaching Behavior Together Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 15, 2022 5:00

Hi everyone and welcome to this episode of the teaching behavior together podcast, today we are going to chat about dealing with tantrums. Tantrums can be rough in the classroom, they can really disrupt the lesson you are teaching as well as trigger other student behavior. Here are some of my go to strategies when dealing with tantrums. My first tip when dealing with a tantrum is to ask the child what they need. I would say something like “tell me (or whatever form of communication they use) what you need.” And wait. It might take a little bit of time, but I give the wait time necessary for them to process what I asked and identify what they need. At times they may not be able to identify what they need because they do not know what they need. It might seem like forever, because minutes during a tantrum, are like extra long minutes, but giving wait time can increase the likelihood you will get a response. If we keep asking questions and prompting, it might delay the student being able to tell us what they need. You might also ask something like “do you need a break or a walk?” if you think that would be more appropriate for the student. Give them a chance to identify what they need and allow them access. Next, if I have to give directions, I keep them as short as possible and I include what I want the student to do within the direction. I might say something like, I need you to walk over here.” Or something similar to that. If I am giving directions it is to keep the student safe. Maybe the tantrum is happening in the hallway and a class is about to come in from lunch, I want to maintain the safety and dignity of that student so I might direct them to a different location. If you give long or complicated directions the student probably will not be able to process them and it probably won't help the tantrum, it might even make it worse. Keep verbal directives to a minimum as they require the student to process information which is challenging to do when they are elevated. Lastly, I model regulation strategies. Essentially you want to co-regulate with the student. Demonstrate some go to regulation strategies and wait it out with them. I know this can be really challenging, again minutes during a tantrum seem really long. Modeling a strategy can help students engage in that strategy and hopefully allow them to calm down their body. We want our students to be able to return to a state of calmness no matter how long that takes. Of course we want it to be sooner than later, but sometimes these things just take a while. As a bonus time, teaching regulation strategies when students are calm is the best way to ensure they will have tools in their tool box to engage in strategy that will allow them to be successful at calming themselves. I highly suggest teaching and working on self-regulation on a regular basis in your classroom. If you need a calm down kit, there is a free one in the description of this podcast, download it today and set up a calm down corner tomorrow in your classroom.  As always, I love it when you share with me how these tips work in your classroom over on Instagram. Dr. Marita Schauch joined us IN STUDIO today, which was loads of fun. She is the author of The Adrenal Stress Connection as well as this really fascinating book called Making Sense of Women's Health: A Naturopathic Solution. Quick back story... We were shopping at our local health food store and her picture was up all over the walls advertising a free talk she's going to be giving one Women's Health the coming week. Kate and I looked at each other and both had the same thought, "We should see if she wants to come into the studio and talk with us!" It's amazing how life works right? A week or so later she showed up to our little studio and had a fun and inspiring conversation. Dr. Marita Schauch arrived a bit early to our studio which was awesome because we got to meet each other in person and spend a few minutes having some good conversation before the show started. So on this show we talked mostly about women's health issues and some of the most common issues and health challenges she's seeing in her practice. You'd be surprised at what younger and younger women and girls are coming to see her for. It's a sign that in our modern toxic world, if we don't take steps to get rid of these chemicals and toxins from our bodies our health will eventually break down given enough time. We talked about pregnancy a little bit as well as vaccinations and hormone issues relating to the thyroid and more importantly (which I wasn't aware of) the adrenal glands. I learned a lot of really great information here and I hope you will too. Please pass this show on to any family and friends (especially women!) who think might be interested in this type of unique health information! I hope you liked the show. Today’s guest is Julia Bocchese, an SEO consultant and Pinterest strategist for creative small businesses. Her goal is to make SEO and Pinterest strategies approachable and easy to implement for all small businesses so they can reach their ideal clients organically. She lives in Philadelphia with her Siberian Husky sidekick and her husband. And on the side, she runs a travel photography site and goes to grad school for history to study Vikings.   In this episode, Julia provides a lot of strategy and tips on how to use Pinterest for your freelance business, whether you’re brand-new to Pinterest or you need to ramp up your efforts. I was concerned that Pinterest was only for businesses that are heavy into images like photographers or fashion bloggers, but Julia assured me that most businesses can benefit from Pinterest. Please know that Julia is hosting a virtual workshop on Pinterest on Tuesday, May 26, so check out the link under Resources below for more information. Pinterest is a visual search engine, not a typical social media platform. Followers don’t matter as much as they do with other platforms. You can still get a lot of traffic and engagement with just a handful of followers. You can spend less time on Pinterest as well, scheduling out pins and not engaging with people directly as much as on other platforms. Pinterest pins can rank high in Google, so keyword research is important in Pinterest. People think of Pinterest as visual mood boards for your individual interest, but it can be very helpful for businesses. Pinterest can be for almost all businesses, except for brick-and-mortar local businesses like a drycleaning business. Pinterest also allows you to have secret boards, so you can have your personal interests, such as recipes, fashion, home decorating, on your business Pinterest account too. You can also have secret lists of your competitors or clients you want to keep tabs on. You can pin any type of content you create, like blog posts, videos or podcast episodes. Create vertical images—you can take a stock image and put a text overlay with your content title over it using Canva.com. Canva has Pinterest templates you can use. Pinterest’s algorithm favors “fresh content,” meaning a new link or a new image. So, create multiple graphics for the same blog post so you can pin more than one pin. Space them out across a few weeks or months. You should pin something every day, but you can schedule them through an app called Tailwind and only spend a few hours a month scheduling for the entire month. If you’re just getting started and don’t have a lot of content to post, it can be helpful to post other people’s contents; those can also be scheduled in Tailwind. Follow people in your industry to see what pins work well for them, but it doesn’t matter how many followers you have, unlike other social media platforms. There are a few ways to find out if your ideal audience is on Pinterest, such as searching on Pinterest for topics you have written about or cover in your business. Look for people in your industry. You can also find out who has pinned your website content by typing in: www.pinterest.com/source/YOUR WEBSITE NAME. This shows you which of your content is gaining traction. If no one has pinned your information yet, Pinterest might not be the best platform for your business. SEO is important for Pinterest. Pinterest doesn’t have a great keyword search tool yet, although you can type in topics in the Pinterest search tool and they will auto-populate. Optimize your pins’ headlines and descriptions with strong keywords and be smart about who you are targeting. You can rank high in Google with pins—and not just in the Google image search. If you have a limited amount of time for Pinterest, focus first on creating great content to pin. Then, create a few graphics to pin for your new content. Use Tailwind to fill out your schedule for the month. Then, look at your analytics at least once a month to see which pins and which content are performing the best. You will need to have a business Pinterest account to see Pinterest’s analytics and will need to claim your website through Pinterest. It’s easy to switch your personal Pinterest account to a business account. It can take a long time to build up your Pinterest efforts, similar to Google. It could take up to three months to start seeing traction. But pins can live on for months and years, unlike tweets and Facebook posts. Biz Bite: Have a CEO Day Each Week. Get this book!   How happy are you? Now what you tell your friends. Not what you tell yourself. The truth.   Sleep I talked about this before but it needs repeating because the data shows so many people around the world are not getting enough sleep.     Minimum is 8. I've read estimates up to 10 hours. You need to sleep as long as you need to … as long as it is at least 8 hours.   Read Arianna Huffington's The Sleep Revolution (affiliate link).   Movement You gotta move. Every day. No excuses. I don't care what you do to move…just move.   What did you think of this episode? I want to know. Getting to the gym, a spin class or outdoors for your long run can be a challenge with a busy work, family and social schedule. As a triathlete, I know this well.  FueledByMOTM is a new Marni on The Move weekly segment offering tips, advice, and answers to listener questions.  On this premiere episode, I share my strategies for fitting my workouts into my busy schedule, stay motivated during training, and set goals to achieve success.  Many of you have been asking me how I find the time to train for triathlon and how I stay inspired in my training and workout routine. This isn’t a new question, as my friends and family have asked me for decades!  While this segment is focused on triathlon, these tips and advice apply to any sports or fitness routine. Before I trained for triathlon, I was a runner, yoga practitioner, and fitness class junkie. The only way I ever got to the gym or studio is by approaching training the same way I approach running my business. Whether I am spearheading initiatives within my own company, The Salup Group, building a brand strategy, communications and content campaign for a client, or producing events and FIT+LOVE’s annual fitness festival, I set achievable goals, build a team, map out a plan of action, build it into my schedule and get it done. FueledByMOTM is my new weekly podcast segment and Marni on the Move series offering easy-to-follow, actionable, tips, advice and answers to listener questions on topics we cover in depth on Marni on the Move from career, fitness, beauty, sports, wellness and more.  Either myself or one of my 60 plus podcast guests will be sharing, commenting and answering listener questions in each 20 minute or less epiode. This week on Relationships 2.0 my guest is Jeffrey Bernstein, PhD author of Mindfulness for Teen Worry: Quick & Easy Strategies to Let Go of Anxiety, Worry & Stress About the book: Is your worrying keeping you from reaching your goals? In Mindfulness for Teen Worry, a clinical psychologist offers quick, easy-to-learn mindfulness skills teens can use anytime, anywhere to stop worries from growing and taking over. Let’s face it—being a teen isn’t easy. And if you’re like a lot of other teens, you probably worry about getting good grades, fitting in with a certain crowd, or what the future will bring after high school. These are all completely normal worries, and signs that you are tuned in to your life and thinking about your goals. But what about chronic worrying—the kind that keeps you up at night, ruminating about that paper you just turned in, or that thing your friend said to you at lunch (what did she mean by that?), and so on. Sometimes worrying isn’t helpful. In fact, it can get in the way of living your life! So, how can you start putting worry in its place before it takes up too much head space? Mindfulness for Teen Worry will show you how living in the moment will dissolve worry and help you stay grounded in the here and now. You’ll learn powerful and easy-to-use mindfulness skills to manage the four most common worry struggles teens face: school pressure, coping with friendship and relationship problems, improving body image, and handling family conflicts. You’ll discover why you worry and the long-term destructive impacts worry can have on your life. And most importantly, you’ll be introduced to simple, effective techniques to help you become more mindful—like harnessing the power of the breath and how to relax your body in times of stress. If you struggle with worry or anxiety that gets in the way of being your best, this fun and friendly guide will help you maintain a mindful life in a frenzied world. About the author: Jeffrey Bernstein, PhD, is a psychologist with over thirty years’ experience specializing in child, adolescent, couples, and family therapy. He holds a PhD in counseling psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and completed his postdoctoral internship at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Pennsylvania. He has served as an expert advisor for The Today Show, Court TV, CBS Eyewitness News, NBC 10 – Philadelphia, and appeared on National Public Radio. He has authored five books, including 10 Days to a Less Defiant Child, 10 Days to Less Distracted Child, Liking the Child You Love, Why Can’t You Read My Mind?, and Letting Go of Anger, a card deck for teens.

Over the last few years, I've noticed that one of the big reasons my students struggle with list building is that they lack consistent original content in their marketing strategy. It's an easy trap to fall into. After all, creating content takes time, effort and creativity. You might even be thinking "Amy, all my focus is going into creating my product for sale. How am I supposed to come up with fresh original content every week?" Well, good news--this episode is all about helping you create just one piece of amazing content each month. You heard right. Each. Month. When you have that one piece of amazing epic content, you can spin it out into every marketing channel in your toolbox with the overall goal of building your list. Content Comes in Three Stages I think there’s a lot of confusion out there around content. It seems simple, but when I sat down and started mapping what successful content looks like in different contexts, I'll admit that even I got confused! So I checked in with a good friend from my corporate job days. She’s the best at dissecting content and explaining where it shines the brightest. And what she showed me is that there are three main stages of content: Paid Free lead magnet Just plain free (not even for an opt-in) Notice I said "stages." All three of these types of content are related to each other--which means every time you create one kind of content, the other two are super easy to create out of it. Click here to find out how you can use the main themes within your paid product to create epic content that builds your list! Easy Strategies for Getting More Mileage Out of Your Epic Content Now, like I said earlier, the "meat" of the strategy we’re diving into in this episode is getting deliberate about your content creation so you can extend it across all your marketing channels. When you really get intentional with your content (and create it with your email list in mind), you're all to get huge mileage out of one piece. After all, we take our content creation seriously. So why not put a bigger focus on getting it in front of more people while we’re creating it? In this episode, I'm going to walk you through three roadmaps for extending one piece of epic content into every major marketing platform you use. To make it extremely easy for you, I've put together some free worksheets that show how to break up your content into different platforms within each roadmap. Click here to get them now! EPISODE FREEBIE Get Your Free Cheat Sheet: "The List Builders Blitz Campaign" FREE DOWNLOAD To get the most out of today's topic, you'll really want to listen to the whole episode. But I'll outline the roadmaps for you here: Strategy 1: Start by writing an epic blog post that includes an epic upgrade (something your readers can take more action on to get more value). From there, you'll move to emailing your list, creating videos, doing a Periscope, and more. Click here to get all the steps now! Strategy 2: Start by creating an epic podcast episode with an upgrade. From the podcast, you'll create a blog post. Not just show notes, but something that brings immense value even to people that may not have heard your podcast. Next you'll email your list, create a video, and more. Click here to get all the steps. Strategy 3: Start by creating an epic video. The first thing you'll need to know is how to provide the content upgrade in your video...click here to find out! Next, you'll take the audio from your video to create a podcast, use the audio to create a blog post...the list goes on. Find out the details on each of these strategies, including what constitutes an "epic" piece of content and what to put in the initial content versus what to put in the freebie, by listening to the whole episode. Click here to listen now! The End Goal = Your Email List Now, this whole strategy takes a little thought and effort to execute properly. That's why you won’t be using this strategy with every single piece of new content you create. Like I said, I’m suggesting you be selective with this concept and put it to work about once a month. That gives you lots of room to pace each appearance of the content within your various marketing channels (and to repost it at least once) without making it seem like overload. Bottom line, the mindset around your campaign should always be about building your email list by getting people to your freebie. When you're creating core quality content with your email list in mind, it uplevels everywhere that content appears.
