The independent horror film, THEY WAIT IN THE DARK (2023), has been getting some rave reviews including a write up in the New York Times. Director Patrick Rea is no rookie when it comes to horror films. He's directed some fine films in the genre this last decade including NAILBITER (2013), ARBOR DEMON (2016), and I AM LISA (2020). THEY WAIT IN THE DARK as stated on IMDB: Amy (Sarah McGuire), a young woman is on the run with her young son Adrian (Patrick McGee) from her abusive ex-girlfriend. When the past rises up to haunt them, they must confront the forces threatening them from both outside and in.Patrick Rea joins the podcast to discuss his latest film. As the IMBD description suggests, the film is both a thriller as a Cluster B personality chases our protagonists across state while inside their hiding place a supernatural presence may be even more threatening than the main antagonist. Listen in and hear what Rea says about his latest slow burn horror film.
The Squad celebrates Valentines week by going a little light hearted this week as they review "So I Married An Axe Murderer'. We are also joined by Director Patrick Rea to discuss his latest film "They Wait in the dark". Music provided by www.purple-planet.com

Today's guest started building a strong work ethic at the age of 12, and never stopped. Understanding she learned through work, it was fundamental that her choice in University had an emphasis on learning through action. She followed her interest in event production to a premier events company in Boston, producing high-end events like a Super Bowl Ring Ceremony at the team owner's house. It was in her time managing Boston's most select night clubs that she noticed a gap; The Ultra Premium club life was Ultra antiquated in how they managed guest bookings. To solve that, she co-founded TabelList to modernize Night Club and event reservations. They soon expanded Nationally, and beyond the club too, landing the most Ultra Premium event of 2017... Fyre Fest! Wow! You may have seen the documentaries, but facing $3.5M in chargebacks! Just Wow! Following that, she took over as CEO, and with 4 others stayed to rebuild the decimated company. Just as things were growing again, she lost her Mom to Cancer. This was all just before COVID hit, shutting down every nightclub and event in the World. A call came in from an old contact from Boston, who needed help managing the growing queues at their dispensaries during Covid. Could their software help? Bring hospitality to Cannabis, please enjoy the Founder's Journey of Kyla Sirni, Co-Founder & CEO of Dispense. One of the hardest things for driven people to do, is to learn when to adapt and persevere and when to move on. Today's guest shares a few stories about how he learned those lessons. As a young kid, he found an early passion for Soccer. It wasn't tallent alone though, he put in the work; hours on the field in practice. Through the sport, he learned a lot about himself; he liked to see and understand the big picture. The perfect spot to get that view was Goalie! That dedication and commitment eventually turned into Olympic prep, which further led to an invite to the Ivy League to play at Brown! On Senior day, his parents drove 14 hours to see their son play; only to see him on the bench, in favor of a younger, taller, Freshman Goalie. He was gutted. Contemplating leaving the team, he reached out to an athlete friend for guidance; the advice was simple, talk to the coach, see what he could do, needed to do, to be on and in the team. Received well, he followed that guidance, did his part, and was eventually rewarded with opportunity when the team needed him. A number of years into professional life, working in the natural products industry, he was given a huge promotion from managing 1 line of business to 15. The workload was crushing. Days stretched into weeks, and into months. He came home every night drained. It was literally killing him. With a Mortgage, Wife, and two daughters, a driven person doesn't just quit, but, as he noted, "If you can't take care of yourself, you can't take care of anyone else". For him and his family, he needed to find the right vein for him. With a background in startups, investing and mentoring, a slight pivot from Natural Supplements to the nascent Cannabis Industry was his next eon. With the synergies and success that followed, it proved to be the correct choice with the huge impact his company has had on the Cannabis Industry. Please enjoy the Founders Journey of Patrick Rea, Co-Founder of CanopyBoulder. Professional Summary: In 2013, Patrick founded CanopyBoulder, a seed-stage, mentorship-driven business accelerator and investment fund focused on data, fintech, software, and IoT in the cannabis industry as well as hemp/CBD businesses. At CanopyBoulder, Patrick raised five accelerator funds and invested in 115 companies in the cannabis industry. Prior to CanopyBoulder, Patrick spent 15 years in the natural products industry in roles including M&A, strategic management consulting, venture finance, B2B media, e-commerce, CEO coaching, and entrepreneur mentorship. For five years, Patrick was a consistent presence on The Arcview Group's selection committee and in 2014 acted as Executive Editor for ArcView's State of the Legal Marijuana Market report. He frequently runs panels at industry events, and has served as a judge for multiple Marijuana Business Conference & Expo Pitch Slams. Patrick graduated with two degrees from Brown University where he played Division I soccer, and resides in Boulder, Colorado with his wife and two daughters. Patrick embraces all that Colorado has to offer to build relationships with his investors and portfolio CEOs, often inviting them to join him trail running, hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding in the foothills outside of Boulder. Company Summary: CanopyBoulder is the leading business accelerator in the cannabis industry. Founded in 2013, CanopyBoulder supports seed-stage cannabis startups through investment and a structured business accelerator program. Happy New Year! This month our focus is helping you use cannabis to build a business. Be it a retail shop, or an online entity you'll need some help! In this episode, Patrick Rea, CEO of Canopy shares why he decided to enter the cannabis space; how Canopy Boulder was formed; tips on applying and what they seek in potential startups; and he closes with his top 5 tips on entering the industry as a early, ancillary startup. 3:55 We didn't set out to starting an accelerator. Which is a good lesson to all entrepreneurs. Show up, engage, be present, and identify a real problem that you can solve, a problem that exists for many people. (Patrick and partners started out wanting to do an investment fund, but weren't seeing volume of investment ready businesses in industry) 5:00 We pivoted to accelerator because the problem was there was lack of investment worthy businesses in the industry. The industry was growing rapidly and needed service businesses such as payroll processing, data, ad networks. 10:35 Having a co-founder proves that you can convince someone else that you've got a really good idea. The business of being a startup is kind of like making friends. You have to build an ecosystem of people who are excited about what you are doing. 15:30 Patrick shares his top 5 tips about getting into the cannabis startup space. For example: "Be humble and realistic about what you can do and "you have two ears and one mouth. Use them appropriately." Please consider supporting EstroHaze via Patreon. In this episode of the horror review/discussion show Screams After Midnight the guys look at the new romantic monster movie 'Arbor Demon.'. Directed by Patrick Rea and starring Fiona Dourif and Jake Busey. twitter: https://twitter.com/Mild_Fuzzfacebook: https://www.facebook.com/mildfuzznetwork
Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. If you don't follow your dreams, you will wither and die? Isn't that what your school teacher said when you were a little kid? But what about the fact when you follow your dreams and you suddenly look back and see that you missed out on other things ... that you didn't compromise ... that you didn't even reach your goals anyway. Movies have subtexts, and the new horror film Arbor Demon seems to have many. Directed and co-written by Patrick Rea, known for his prior horror film Nail Biter, the movie seems to try to say a lot this sophomore effort. When a young photographer finds out she's pregnant, she panics since she and her husband had not planned on children. Prior to her husband leaving on a one month tour with his garage band, she decides to keep the news to herself. Before his trip, the two head out for an anniversary camping vacation only to be terrorized by a bear, hunters, and an unknown terror that may have been haunting the woods for centuries. This new effort by the young filmmaker Patrick Rea did the festival circuit last year and was eventually picked up by Gravitas Ventures. New on VOD, the film has received some buzz across the internet. Not on many folk's radar, some have said it is a pleasant surprise. Dark Discussions takes a look at the movie and does a critique on the film and the many things it seems to be saying. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

Check out this short from from Senoreality Pictures, and writer/director Patrick Rea called TORTURE PORN. Patrick has done some excellent work, such as the short films GET OFF MY PORCH (see my review here), DO NOT DISTURB, and NEXT CALLER (reviews can be found here). TORTURE PORN is just as good as his other films, except this one throws some comedy into the normally grim torture sub-genre of horror films. The film is shot beautifully and has some great effects in it! Check this out now!!!
