On July 7, the First Baptist Church in Floresville had the opportunity to show their love and appreciation to Penny Smith, their beloved office administrator, who has served the church faithfully for 17 years. Penny started this position on Nov. 1, 2005, and has been described as “the heart of our church” or “the glue that holds us together” ever since. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Curtis Stigers, Award Winning Singer / SongwriterAbout Harvey's guest:Curtis Stigers is an American jazz singer. He achieved a number of hits in the early 1990s, most notably the international hit, "I Wonder Why" (1991), which reached No. 5 in the UK and No. 9 in the US.Stigers was born in Hollywood, California and grew up in Boise, Idaho.  He started his music career as a teenager, playing in rock and blues bands, as well as receiving an education in clarinet and saxophone in high school in Boise.  He acquired much of his motivation for pursuing jazz from jam sessions led by Gene Harris at the Idanha Hotel. His song "Swingin' Down at Tenth and Main" is a tribute to those times with Harris. This episode is dedicated to addressing sexual assault on college campuses. When you think about college, you think about freedom, and dating, and parties. However, there’s not enough discussion, especially with new students, the darker side of college life. College has so many factors that make it a breeding ground for sexual violence and misconduct. So much so, that the government has regulations that govern the reporting of claims, training of staff, and support of victims. The federal policy is called Title IX. Every institution is required to have a basic policy. You should familiarize yourself with it, understand what constitutes misconduct or sexual violence know your where you can report sexual assault claims. This information is found on your colleges website and in your student handbook. Our guest on this episode will explain Title IX and more.
