A fresh 2026, book to screen Rom Com, based on the novel by Emily Henry, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth (YES, President Snow, but as a brunette). This little snack features a couple that lies to themselves for years that they're not in love, while they date and almost marry other people because they're too stubborn to admit that they like each other. Not gonna lie, sometimes things can be good for just the DRAMA of it all. And this is DRAMA.

Voice Of Costume - Creating Character through Costume Design
Creative leadership isn't control—it's vulnerability, collaboration, and choosing the right moments to stand firm. In this vibrant and deeply reflective conversation, host Catherine Baumgardner sits down with costume designer Colin Wilkes, whose work brings emotional texture and visual storytelling to the Netflix adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation. Wilkes traces a creative journey rooted in rural freedom, theater, opera, and early storytelling—spaces where imagination and observation shaped a lifelong study of people, culture, and place. The discussion dives into how costume design becomes a form of sociology: studying geography, music, art, class, and cultural behavior to make each vacation, city, and moment feel emotionally distinct. Wilkes explains how color palettes, fabric, silhouettes, and background wardrobes subtly signal time, place, and character psychology—often working below the audience's conscious awareness. From Barcelona to New Orleans, airports to weddings, every costume choice anchors the viewer in a believable world. Wilkes also reveals the challenges behind the romance: tight schedules, weather disasters, international shipping, and constant pivots—while still protecting the emotional arc of the characters. The episode explores ego, collaboration, vulnerability, and leadership, emphasizing when to fight for a creative choice and when to let go. Ultimately, the conversation becomes a meditation on purpose-driven storytelling, trust in collaboration, and how clothing can quietly chart growth, intimacy, and connection over time. The "Voice of Costume" is the first podcast created between working costume designers sharing stories, inspiration, struggles, and insights into the creative career of costume design. A behind-the-scenes podcast to showcase the voices of Costume Designers around the world. Listen in on this inspirational, one-on-one conversation with Catherine Baumgardner. Send a textI survived a bad winter storm that knocked out my heat and electricity for almost a week, so it's good to be back!Speaking of drama, Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite books of all time, so I've been following the crazy anticipation for the Emerald Fennell film adaptation of the story that just opened this weekend. Adapting beloved classic stories for the screen isn't easy – filmmakers will never manage to perfectly interpret the story for every fan of the source material, and they have to earn attention in ways that books don't. Some filmmakers really get it right, though, despite the challenges, and when they manage to honor the original story while staying committed to their own version of it, beloved characters live another day. Classic books have survived for a reason, and I think they can handle all of the red latex corsets thrown at them.https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comIt was certain that this movie was going to be hot and look stunning, no matter what.I think this is the ultimate review of the film and I haven't even seen it yet. A Tale of Two Hotties. Is this the greatest love story of all time?! Or is that our trauma talking? The 1939 adaptation of Wuthering Heights is full of romance with a R and scenery-chewing, and resembles the book only a little, but it's glorious.I will watch the whole 1939 movie just for this scene.I think they got everything I loved about this book exactly right."Based on the timeless love story by Jane Austen" and after that, they need to sell us on it because we are Fans. Well, personally I bought everything this version of Persuasion was selling. It's far from a perfect movie, and I haven't read the book, but the casting and direction of Which Brings Me to You is perfection, and I was glued to the screen from beginning to end.The Pop Culture Happy Hour from NPR is a podcast and newsletter that covers the "buzziest" movies, TV, music, books, video games and more. What do book-to-screen adaptations owe their readers? And further, what makes a good adaptation? Should the goal of any adaptation be to appease existing fandoms or attract new ones? These are the central questions that Sunny Adcock and Allie Daisy King set out to answer in today's episode of Booksmart, using Emily Henry's 'People We Meet on Vacation', recently released on Netflix, as their case study.
Poppy and Alex are two friends who meet at college and then vacation together every summer for several years. Will they be more than friends? Who knows? These rom-coms are so unpredictable! /s Ashley & Matt review the new Netflix movie in this episode.
We all have that platonic friend who is incredibly hot, that we spend a decade going on vacations with and definitely never have romantic feelings for, and does not create tension in our relationships, right? We start with a brief word on what's happening in Minneapolis, then it's back to entertainment with Oscar nominations, a little Oscar trivia, and a truly dumb, dumb, dumb celebrity feud: Blake Lively vs. Justin Baldoni. Lively's emails are revealed, Taylor Swift gets pulled into the drama, and on a lighter note — Carbles. Must-watch TV includes Bridgerton's return, Finding Her Edge, and People We Meet on Vacation. Patrick Dempsey is great in Memory of a Killer on Fox/Hulu, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie keep the Heated Rivalry torch burning in Milan, and Sydney Sweeney sparks conversation with her bra stunt promoting a lingerie line with the worst name imaginable.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week, we try to escape the Heated Rivalry haze with another romance book to screen adaptation, this time with Emily Henry's "People We Meet on Vacation".

The book-turned-Netflix rom-com that has the internet in a chokehold… it’s time for our brutally honest review of People We Meet On Vacation. We’re unpacking Emily Henry's beloved novel and putting it head-to-head with its Netflix adaptation — from what translated beautifully on screen to what absolutely did not. We get into the cast, the chemistry (or lack thereof), and Emily’s very strong gripe with main character Poppy (… can someone say Pick Me?).Plus we're breaking down the one scene that never should’ve made it into the film, and another that's we’re genuinely devastated was left on the cutting room floor...things get so heated at one point that Emily nearly walks out of the room. In this episode, I sit down with Colin Wilkes, the costume designer behind the film adaptation of Emily Henry's People We Meet on Vacation, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth. We talk about what it means to feel too much, and how that emotional intensity shows up through clothing, color, and character dynamics. Colin breaks down how wardrobe helps tell a love story, shapes who characters are before they even speak, and quietly mirrors the tension, tenderness, and timing that make this story hit so hard. If you love storytelling details, emotional nuance, and the invisible art behind your favorite films, this one's for you.
Any takeaways from this episode?College friends. Annual vacations. Questionable boundaries. And the illusion that everything works better when life is on pause. This week on RomCom Rescue, Kira Sabin and Dr. Isabelle Morley break down Netflix's People We Meet on Vacation, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth — a friends-to-lovers story that should work… but maybe doesn't.We talk about:Why “vacation chemistry” is not the same as real-life compatibilityThe outdated question of “Can men and women be friends?”Emotional intimacy, blurry boundaries, and what actually creates problems in relationshipsWhy attraction alone doesn't mean you should build a life togetherAnd the big miss that kept this romance from fully landingFair warning: we liked parts of it… and still had a lot to say.
This week I'm joined by Emily Bader, the star of Netflix's People We Meet on Vacation. We cover how she landed the role, the adorable moment she found out she was cast, and what it felt like stepping into a book with such a devoted fanbase. We talk being called “perfectly cast,” filming in heat and rain across the vacation locations, Tom Blyth's surprising dance moves, the iconic blue wig, and how she's taking in this massive moment. This episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services.
