Hello, I'm Rick Taylar, and this is Weight Loss Mindset! Ever lost weight and then put it all back on again? It's like your own body is fighting against you? How can you win this struggle with yourself without too much suffering? The most crucial time you need to be aware of when losing weight is just after you've lost some. Why? Because the body wants it back! It's not easy keeping off the weight after a diet. Most, if not all, people who lose weight stack it back on. The worst part is, they put on more weight. Isn't that horrible? Here's the simple reason you regain your weight Losing weight reduces your stored fat and energy stores. It sets off a chain reaction and triggers your hormones to let your brain know the amount of fat in the body is at a critical level. There's a hormone called leptin. Your fat cells make this hormone to decrease your appetite. So, of course, when you have less fat, the appetite suppression is lifted, and the cravings start. Don't give up. It's not over just yet. I know that all sounds like bad news when you desperately want to lose weight, but don't leave feeling defeated just yet. Change your mindset and realize the body isn't sabotaging you. It's only making you aware of what you're up against. When you know what you're up against, you can take measures to counteract the natural responses of the body, so you don't regain your lost weight. You can do this using behavioral or environmental interventions. Different kinds of foods and supplements reduce hunger and don't contain lots of calories. Things like Protein-rich foods and fiber-rich foods. Try drinking enough water before every meal. Try eating slower over 20 minutes, so your body has time to feel satisfied. Go to the website at weightlossmindset.co, and you'll find it. Some excellent nutritional supplements stimulate the brain to help suppress the appetite. They're worth a try for that added support. I'll make a note of the best ones for you in the show notes for this episode. Conclusion You've worked hard to lose some weight, and it's starting to come back. Don't panic and give up at this critical stage. Understand it's merely your body's natural response to the process. Don't let your body win, though. You're fighting against your body's natural response. As you start losing weight, your calorie needs drop too. The Presidency on Tuesday said the federal government has approved a five-year nutrition action plan that will help to reduce hunger and malnutrition across the country.The spokesman to the Vice President, Laolu Akande in a statement said the plan was approved by the National Council on Nutrition, which is chaired by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.The statement said that the approved plan will reduce the proportion of people who suffer malnutrition by 50%; increase exclusive breastfeeding rate to 65%.It will also reduce stunting rate among under-five year old to 18% by 2025 through the scaling up of priority high impact nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions.

If food waste were a corporation on the Fortune 500 list, it would rank right after General Motors. With this information in mind, Joe Labriola, Executive Director of Second Helpings Atlanta joins us on today's Around Atlanta episode to talk about the hunger and food waste epidemic in Atlanta and explain the simple, yet highly effective food rescue program that the non-profit oversees. Prior to joining Second Helpings Atlanta in May 2015, Labriola was the Vice President of Product Marketing at PGi, the Chief Marketing Officer at Enterprise Information Management and spent 30 years at IBM before he retired in November 2010. Labriola states that somewhere along the corporate career path he realized this was just not feeding his soul and it was time for Career 2.0. When a job posting for Second Helping's first ever Executive Director crossed his path, he knew he had to take. Second Helpings Atlanta is a non-profit food rescue organization whose mission is to reduce hunger and food waste in the metropolitan Atlanta area by rescuing healthy, nutritious, surplus food and delivering it to those in need. In 2018, the nonprofit had a hugely successful year and also went through a rebranding process. They conducted over 8,000 food rescues, meaning volunteers rescued nearly 1.4 million nutritious meals and raised the level of awareness so high that they helped fuel their expansion by 22 new donors.  Since its launch in 2004, Second Helpings Atlanta's network now includes more than 80 Food Donors, 45 Partner Agencies and over 450 volunteer drivers. Volunteers at Second Helpings Atlanta rescue nutritious, perishable food (dairy, deli, bakery, produce) and prepared food from over 80 Food Donors and deliver it (free of charge) to a network of over 45 Partner Agencies (food pantries, community meal providers, shelters) who feed the hungry every day. “We use something we developed called our 90 Minute Model, where we connect our volunteers with routes that get them from their home, place of work or worship to a nearby Food Donors, using their own vehicle, where they pick up donated food, transport and deliver it to a Partner Agency and return home in 90 minutes or less,” explains Labriola. “We believe this process gives our 450+ volunteers a high impact volunteer experience that has a low impact on their busy schedules.” A unique aspect of Second Helpings efforts is that they focus exclusively on healthy, nutritious food because many of the clients of the Partner Agencies are surviving on diets consisting mostly of processed food which can contribute to serious health issues later in life. Additionally, Labriola states, “Because the food we deliver is free of charge, money previously spent to purchase groceries can be re-diverted into providing more core services, allowing our Partner Agencies to make a bigger impact in the community without the need to raise more money.” During the interview, Labriola states some astonishing facts about highly complex food rescues from large scale event venues such as Mercedes Benz Stadium and SunTrust Park. He also mentions that Second Helpings Atlanta was one of three organizations selected by the NFL to do a food rescue during the events that lead up to the Super Bowl.
