In today's episode, we speak with Callie Vinson about...Finding passion for running during & after her 200-pound weight loss journeyThe lessons she learned as she upped her mileageBuilding confidence through running & chasing new goalsTraining her gut & finding calorie sources that work for before, during and post-raceThe mental preparation that goes into running 200 milesThe Rising Hearts Foundation and elevating indigenous voicesAbout Callie:She began running in 2013 as a way to lose weight after realizing she could barely walk a mile to meet a friend for brunch in Chicago. It was a slow-go getting started—she picked up a stress fracture, had to learn the real value of food and how to eat better vs eating out every meal. She struggled simply running around the block—but she kept at it and eventually, one day, ran 13.1 miles around her neighborhood and decided she wanted to try a marathon. The 2016 BOA Chicago Marathon was her first race (ever) and she finished! It was around this time too that she reached a total of 200 pounds lost. After that, she tackled her first 50 miler. Then, her first 100 miler and in 2022 her first 200+ mile finish at the Moab 240.It wasn't until she moved to Arizona that she truly started trail running, and now she's just two weeks away from the Western States Endurance Run, oldest 100-mile trail ultra in the country, which includes 17k of vert and 23k of descent. Needless to say, there's been a lot of learning this training cycle — not just with performance on trail but also how to fuel properly for a hot, hot, hot mountainous race. It'll be a challenge, but like Callie likes to say, "We're runners and easy just ain't our thing." Christine is the overall winner of this year's Outlaw 100 135-mile race! They called her “The Little Engine that Could” during the race. You'll have to listen to find out why! She was also 2nd female at the 2021 Moab 240 Mile race! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her and talking about her impressive race resume, how she picks her races and her simple race strategy that has obviously worked great for her! Christian Stenner is a man with very diverse interests. We invited him on this podcast because Kim connected with him when he was running the Sinister 7 100 miler this summer, however as she got to know him she discovered ultrarunning is just one of the many things to which he devotes his time. Christian lives in Calgary, AB with his wife and his dog. In addition to his day job, he is an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces specializing in leadership development of youth in the Army Cadet Program. He is a search and rescue coordinator specializing in cave rescue, a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the Explorers Club, and is dedicated to sharing unknown parts of the world with others while contributing to citizen science. If you aren't sure what citizen science is...keep listening! This summer Christian did the Canada Army Run “Sandbag Edition” by combining all the distances offered to run approximately 42km with a 40 lb sandbag on his shoulders in order to raise awareness and funds for Soldier On.Although Christian describes himself as “a low performance athlete who runs and attempts to run ultramarathons with mixed success,” one could question his meaning of success. A member of the Altra Running Team, he placed third man in the Sinister Triple this year, completed the 2019 Lost Soul 200K, and raised $11,000 for Wellspring Calgary in the 2018 Challenge the Chief firefighter stair climb. We don't know where he gets all his energy, but Christan Stenner is a man on a mission and we hope he inspires you to challenge yourself, combine your passions, and help someone in the process!CORRECTION: Kim incorrectly stated that the ground reaction force increases by 5-10% with each foot strike. Monica has been running since 1994 with the exception of about 6-7 years to deal with infertility and eventually expanding her family. She was lucky enough to be welcomed into the Masters Age-Group category last year and has nothing but good things to say about competing as a runner over 40! This week Eugene and Matt head back to the Mountain Time Zone for an amazing conversation with iRunFar editor-in-chief Bryon Powell. We talk recovery from Hardrock, how good it is to be back at it racing post COVID, and how 2020, whilst very challenging, did allow a chance for a reset. Matt has a legitimate fanboy moment and shows Bryon his dog-eared copy of Relentless Forward Progress that Powell signed in 2014. Bryon's passion for the sport and knowledge of the culture is legend, and this discussion touches on a lot of it, from Bryon's athletic beginnings and the start of iRunFar, to what the future holds - both of the sport in general and for iRunFar. We also discuss how running can remain part of your life without being the defining part of your life. Once a runner, always a runner. As usual, we've got results, Stuff You Should Know, Greatest Run Ever and all the racing results you need. Enjoy.
Today's guest is Jon Kinner (@ultrajonk). Jon's an endurance athlete who followed his dream of nordic skiing to Western Colorado University. Jon grew his passion for exercise and fitness into a career as an elementary PE teacher in Golden, CO, and earned a Master's in Sport & Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado as well. As you'll hear in the show, one missed bus ride and Jon accidentally discovered his affinity for long distance running and he quickly progressed to marathon racing, eventually qualifying for and running in the Boston marathon in 2010. That wasn't enough... He ran his first 50 miler in the spring of 2011 and since 2014, has successfully finished six 100 mile ultramarathons. In this episode we go deep into the mantras he's developed over all those miles, his strategies for preparing his mind and body for the worst on race day, and how running provides an incredible mirror into our lives. Jon and I have been meaning to sit down and have this conversation forever, and I'm glad we got to share it with you. To the show!!
CONSISTENCY is a principle that's made the biggest difference in my ultra-running training and my work. Consistency means putting in the work. Every. Day. No matter what. (BTW... If you want a hand with this, send an email to scottsambucci@salesqualia.com with the word *CONSISTENCY* and I'll share how I can help.) On the trail, I have a mantra – "Relentless Forward Progress." You might think this only applies to starting up the next 2000' climb, or coercing yourself to the next aid station 12 miles away at 3:30am. But Relentless Forward Progress is most important when it comes to the CONSISTENCY of effort of EVERY DAY. It's about doing the work that needs to be done, before there's urgency. Before the next action becomes critical. Consistency is doing your 20 outreaches every day to fill your #sales funnel. Consistency is keeping your daily stand-ups & team meetings, even when they're not convenient. Consistency is doing quarterly performance reviews so that your team knows exactly where they're doing well and how they can improve. Consistency is investing the time every week to learn even if that means telling a prospect that Thursday is already booked. (Don't worry – you can have the meeting on Friday. They'll be fine with it...) Today’s episode shares it with you.

RFP Podcast Episode #17 – Are you content? This word makes me think. When we are content, we are grateful for what we have, where we are, and where we are going. However, when we are content, is that preventing us from growing, becoming better, and working to be the best version of ourselves? The past seven days this word showed up in a podcast and conversation and I reflect on it in this episode of Relentless Forward Progress.
