AI and Podcasting - Talking to Computers“Branded podcasting was one of the first things that I thought this would be perfect for, and I still personally believe that branded podcasts are one of the biggest untapped opportunities in podcasting because there are just so many companies out there that don't yet have a podcast. And podcasting really is, you know, on the up. Soon it will be ‘you have to have a podcast,' it's not just a nice-to-have, and I think voice technology will spur that on as well. We're already asking for a lot more audio on demand, so I feel like more and more companies just need to have more content on demand through voice interfaces, you know, as a catalyst.” -- Carl Robinson This episode's the second half of my interview "AI and Podcasting" with podcast host, AI data scientist, and Rumble Studio CEO, Carl Robinson, as we talk about what podcasting's growth means for businesses, balancing digital convenience with a human touch, and just how intelligent is artificial intelligence. As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. If you have questions for me, visit www.audiobrandingpodcast.com where you'll find a lot of ways to get in touch. Plus, subscribing to the newsletter will let you know when the new podcasts are available. Both those things really help – and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. You can leave one either in written or in voice format from the podcast's main page. I would so appreciate that. An Untapped OpportunityAs the second half of our interview begins, Carl tells us how Rumble Studio's conversational AI is particularly suited for branded and company podcasts. “Branded podcasts,” he says, “are one of the biggest untapped opportunities in podcasting because there are just so many companies out there that don't yet have a podcast.” We discuss podcasting as a labor of love vs a business necessity as well as the role sound quality plays in our listening habits, and whether there's a happy medium to be found. “If I turn on a podcast,” Carl explains, “and it's at all difficult to listen to I'll just turn it off immediately but I don't think I'll listen to a podcast just because it has fantastic sound quality.” The Human QualityNext, we talk about how software tools like Auphonic and Resound have made professional audio quality easier to attain than ever, and whether over processing might remove something vital and human from the end result. “If you remove the human quality from the voice,” Carl tells us, “that's the same as it becoming unintelligible.” We also take a look at the ease of digital voice transformation and how its misuse could add to our skepticism toward online media. “If nobody believes in the information they're seeing on these platforms,” he notes, “the platforms will die a quick death.” Like a Digital ParrotAs our interview comes to a close, we take a deeper dive into the future of AI, just how authentic it might become, and what that might mean. “If you train it long enough,” Carl observes, “with enough data, it sounds incredible... but it's so far from being sentient it's not funny” He explains how machine learning algorithms work and how, like a digital parrot, chatbots emulate human speech and interaction without truly understanding what it is they're saying. “Those models that you create,” he observes, “don't understand anything that you're saying. There is no understanding of...
AI and Podcasting - Talking to Computers“I'm sure one day you won't be able to tell the difference, and maybe it's not a bad thing, because everybody wants to be at their best. You know, we wear nice clothes and put on makeup and everything else, and, you know, maybe one day you'll do the same for your voice, so you won't sound tired or hung over or whatever...” -- Carl Robinson This episode's guest is the co-founder and CEO of Rumble Studio, a startup that helps creators, agencies, and brands create podcasts ten times faster and easier using cutting-edge voice technology. Rumble Studio is the first and only company to record asynchronous guest interviews using conversational AI, which allows anyone to create audio content at scale, no skills required. He's the host of the Voice Tech Podcast and has interviewed more than one hundred experts in the field of voice technology. Earlier in his career, he led a product team at a chatbot startup and became a published voice AI data scientist. His ambition is to democratize audio content creation so that businesses large and small can establish a presence on the audio channels of the future. His name is Carl Robinson and you'll want to hear what he has to say about podcasts and the state of audio in general. The future of sound is already here, so, let's get to it!As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. The People Behind the CurtainOur interview starts with Carl's earliest memories of sound, the video-game chiptunes and sound effects that helped define his childhood. He tells us how his career began with voice technology and, as a result, soon segued into podcasting. We discuss his early work with healthcare chatbots at a time when they relied much more on human guidance: as he puts it, "I was one of the many people behind the curtain." Carl tells us how the idea came to him that podcasting could be automated to scale using voice technology, and how underutilized it was at the time. "That was around the time," he says, "when Alexa and everything was taking off so it was a great time to have that realization." Wearing Your Best VoiceCarl tells us how he finished his work in Beijing and moved to France to help develop machine learning models in the earliest days of voice interface. He spent much of his time, he says, talking to computers – or, as Carl explains, "dreaming of talking to computers because there wasn't that much talking to them." He tells us about the pioneering research into simulated emotional tones and how he's working these days on voice transformation, apps that process and change a person's inflections, accent, and even who their voice belongs to, in real-time. We talk about some of the companies that are on the leading edge of that process, such as Sanas.AI, Veritone, and Respeecher, and how one day we may see choosing our best digital voice as casually as picking an outfit to wear to an...
It's a simple but brilliant idea - why not try to assemble a beer brewed in each of the 32 countries playing in the upcoming football World Cup? It's the kind of thing you wonder about doing with your mates down the pub... but Gus Hully has actually done it. He's become a beer celebrity, being interviewed on media outlets around the world. But now it's time for the big one... the Nant Fawr Brews podcast. Gus has great stories to tell. Why the Senegal beer troubled him for so long and required him to borderline stalk a random fella called 'Russian Rat' on Instagram. How he solved the puzzle of sourcing "beers" from alcohol-free countries and why his choices inspire both joy and sorrow amongst beer lovers and football fans all across the globe. To see Gus with his beers, and follow his journey through the tournament drinking them, find him on Twitter - @ballstothis Massive thanks to my friend Tom Baker for finding out about Gus's challenge and coming up with the idea for this episode. Please be a part of the podcast by suggesting guests or coming on as a guest yourself. Just email me - andytaylormovies@gmail.com I'd love you to be on a future episode by recording your answers to 'The Beer Questionnaire' - using this new tech called Rumble Studio you can hear me ask the questions but record your answers in your own time (it's fine to just answer as many of the questions as you want - you don't need to do all of them if you don't want to). Ransom is my guest this week. Also known as The Revenant Alien (and he explains what he means by that in the episode). Ransom is a fellow podcaster and creative but worried he was not into beer enough to be on the pod. But, as you'll discover during this chat... a) Ransom has a lot more to say about beer than he thought and b) beer acts as a brilliant springboard into a whole world of other topics. We talk everything from IPAs that look like orange juice, to perfectionism, Rage Against The Machine, ancient Czech lager recipes... and even near-death experiences. Pour yourself a cold one, settle in and enjoy. I mention at the end of this episode that you can have a go yourself at The Beer Questionnaire - this new software called Rumble Studio will allow you and I to do a "virtual interview" - it will record your answers, send them to me, and I can use the audio in a future episode. It would be brilliant to get some of these in, so please do get clicking on the link below and recording (it's fine to just answer as many of the questions as you want - you don't need to do all of them if you don't want to): https://app.rumble.studio/forms/open/3f2a9501-a0cc-4094-a798-1b73db26d04a **** Episode notes... Stay tuned to the end of the interview where I'll give you some actionable insights that I learned from my guest. These insights are also in the show notes. As always, thanks for listening. Now on to my guest for today, Carl Robinson, founder of Rumble Studio, which offers technology to help podcasters cut down on the time needed to make a show. Carl studied computer science in England and first worked as a management consultant, then moved to China to found a startup with a friend. They had success with one app but not so much with the other. Carl went back to being an employee, and returned to school to pursue a master's in data science in France, where he still lives. While doing an internship for his studies, Carl started a podcast that focused on voice technology and AI. Though it was a lot of work, Carl acknowledges that all the conversations he's had with his guests have helped him to better understand the landscape of voice technology and the possibilities for AI. He combined this knowledge with a problem he identified: the amount of time and work it takes to put into creating a podcast. When Carl was approached by an entrepreneur incubator, he jumped at the chance to develop the idea he had for making podcasts more efficient. He joined forces with co-founder, and they developed the technology that became Rumble Studio. This technology allows podcast hosts and their guests to have asynchronous conversations and provides a streamlined solution for recording, editing, and promoting the episode. We also talked about the potential the technology has for helping companies obtain customer feedback, among other possibilities. Now, let's get better together. Actionable Insights Carl's advice to entrepreneurs is to always be curious and always be learning. His own curiosity and drive to learn helped him connect with people in the industry through his podcast, ultimately helping him see opportunities. Carl also stresses the importance of being able to see into the future and not just paying attention to the now. The key is finding that innovative idea - and having the guts to follow through with it. Thinking of starting your own podcast? I offer the advice I was given, which Carl attested was good advice: Do at least 5 interviews before publishing your podcast. Be consistent by doing one interview a week, do them for one year, and don't worry about the numbers. Podcaster Carl Robinson host of https://voicetechpodcast.com/ (Voice Tech Podcast) Tell us about your journey in podcasting. I started podcasting when I was doing an internship for this Master's degree, I was doing it in France. Studying machine learning A.I. Tell us about some podcast rain that's happened to you because of your show. One of the surprising things for me was interviewing two billionaires in one day. How has your podcast helped you to deepen relationships? It made me a speaker, it made me more confident, it led to structure my thoughts, it made me more empathetic as well. Communication skills and the ability to relate to people and continue a conversation. Talk about the startup and how podcasting led to that. I was doing the voice tech podcast and after I finished my internship I kept it going and it grew so doing really well. Because my podcast is all about voice technology, I thought this is really coming along. I looked online and there was really no automated creating a podcast and so that's really where the idea of Rumble Studio came along. Have you leveraged your podcast to build and grow your business? I've got a lot of connections in the voice challenging world thanks to me having interviewed a lot of them or worked with them. Podcasting Works, But It's Time Consuming A lot of people really want to do a podcast or they are doing a podcast and the thing that bothers them is that it's quite a lot of work. Is it possible to find a way to make podcasting easier and more scalable? Create Podcasts Without Even Being There Rumble Studio is an online Saas application that helps creators, businesses and agencies to create audio content like podcasts faster, easier and cheaper. We use asynchronous interviews. It's not live interviews but rather an automated interview where you prepare your questions in advance. You add them into Rumble Studio and or use one of our templates and then you can send a public link to one person or as many and each person who gets that link clicks it. They go through and they get interviewed by Rumble Studio. They get their own version of the interview and the studio takes them through the interview questions one question at a time. How The Aynchronous Interview Works The questions can be text only or they can be audio. If you've taken the time to record them up front, the guest hears your voice, asking them the first question. They click record and they answer it by recording their answer. If they make a mistake they can redo. If they want to build up their answer over time, they can record multiple segments so it's a zero pressure environment. You can really think about what they're going to say before they say it rather than just blurt out the first thing that comes into their head and then when they're ready they move to the next question. The creator then gets that audio back from one or multiple guests. They can put it together with your own audio, jingles or follow-up comments. Then you just export it into one or more episodes. Audio Processing On The Fly We remove the silence, we level the volume, add some eq and make it sound as good as we can without any editing. Just Give Guests Your Link You get just a single link and you can send that individually on email, instant messenger or whatever. You can make it public, you can put it on your website, you can even put it on your social media if you dare and anyone who clicks that link will go through and get the same set of questions and produce audio content for you A Perennial Interview Generating Too You can actually create a permanent interview. We have customers right now who just set five questions, they put the link up and it just sits there for months, just gathering more and more information and audio content from the people as they click on the link. —————————————————————————————————— Get Julian Leahy's #1 recommendation for starting and growing a business online: http://roadto3.com ★☆★ Subscribe to Julian's channel here ★☆★ https://roadto3.com/subscribe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whenitworked Blog: https://roadto3.com/blog/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/whenitworked Podcast: https://whenitworked.com Follow Road To 3 Marketing Education: https://www.facebook.com/roadto3com Follow Julian personally https://www.facebook.com/julian.leahy.96/ ★☆★ Who Is Julian Leahy? ★☆★ The Pink Puzzle Incident (AKA My Bio) https://roadto3.com/the-pink-puzzle-incident/

Welcome back to How To Build An App!In previous episodes, we've addressed the question of whether you can found a tech startup as a non-technical founder.Ultimately, the answer is YES but you absolutely need to find someone for your team that does have that technical background. Our guests this week, Carl Robinson and Joris Guerry, are a prime example of how well it plays out when you follow this advice and they have a bit of an interesting backstory.Carl and Joris were paired up through Entrepreneur First, which basically put them through the entrepreneur version of speed dating to find a cofounder! You'll hear more about that story from them in this episode.Together they founded Rumble Studio, a SAAS company that allows users to produce spoken audio quickly, easily, and affordably with a unique conversational A.I.In this episode, Carl and Joris explain in more depth what Rumble Studio is and the ups and downs they have experienced throughout the development process. The intriguing element of this episode is that Rumble Studio is still a work in progress so the conversation includes current problem-solving strategies, the trial and error processes Carl and Joris are currently experiencing, and how they are preparing to launch the full product.---Learn more about Rumble Studio here: https://rumble.studio/ Follow Carl on Linkedin here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carlrobins0n/ Follow Joris on Linkedin here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jorisguerry/ ---This show is produced by Strides Development, a full-service app development agency. Guest: Carl Robinson, CEO of Rumble Studio and Host of the Voice Tech Podcast Topic: Rumble Studio: Creating Better Audio Production Tools Carl joins Dave on the podcast this week to discuss what he and his team are building at Rumble Studio and have a broad-based conversation about the innovation occurring in the audio production space. As the two discuss, audio is in its infancy as a medium and like any form of media is undergoing a significant transformation as it matures. We're seeing this in real-time as new audio formats are being introduced and popularized, such as social audio. What Carl's team is aiming to build is a platform that enables asynchronous podcast production, enabling an entirely new format of audio production. With Rumble, creators are able to generate a full podcast episode through an asynchronous exchange between host and guest(s), allowing for each side to incrementally build out the conversation, in their own time. As Carl and Dave discuss, this type of format lends itself to a number of interesting possibilities that live podcasting isn't well situated for, ultimately agreeing that we're entering into a new era of audio with a variety of new formats of content emerging.
