Welcome to the Arete Coach Podcast, hosted by Severin Sorensen. In this episode, recorded via Zoom on September 13th, 2024, we are honored to have Hannah Finrow, a Master Certified Coach (MCC) with the International Coach Federation (ICF). Hannah is renowned for her expertise as a Life Coach, Executive Coach, and global coaching expert. She serves as a premier fellow coach at BetterUp and has held leadership roles at CoachTrainingEDU, including VP of Marketing Education. In an engaging conversation, titled, " "Don't ever stop being Hannah," Hannah Finrow shares her inspiring journey from being one of nine children to becoming a highly respected coach with over a decade of experience. Her career began in service-level positions, including management roles at Taco Bell and Jamba Juice, before discovering her passion for coaching. Over the past years, Hannah has dedicated herself to helping individuals unlock their potential, enhance their leadership skills, and embrace their authentic selves. Recognized globally, Hannah has contributed more than 10,000 hours to coaching, mentoring, and training. This episode delves into Hannah's profound commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and coaches to find their unique voices, perfectly aligning with the Arete Coach Podcast's exploration of excellence in executive coaching. Hannah Finrow's journey to becoming a Master Certified Coach offers valuable insights for executive coaches. Her emphasis on authenticity and "being" rather than just "doing" highlights the importance of personal growth and self-awareness in coaching. Hannah's approach demonstrates that effective coaching goes beyond techniques and tools; it's about creating a space where clients can explore their true selves and unlock their potential. The podcast underscores the significance of listening and intuition in executive coaching. Hannah's practice of "pausing for intuition" and her willingness to ask seemingly unrelated questions based on her intuitive insights showcase the power of deep listening and trust in the coaching process. This approach can help executive coaches move beyond surface-level conversations to facilitate profound breakthroughs with their clients. Hannah's perspective on the "gap" in coaching provides a crucial framework for executive coaches. By focusing on the space between where clients are and where they want to be, coaches can help clients identify areas for growth and development. Additionally, Hannah's multidimensional approach, incorporating elements like poetry and metaphor, illustrates how executive coaches can leverage diverse tools and perspectives to enhance their practice and create more impactful coaching experiences. The Arete Coach Podcast seeks to explore the art and science of executive coaching. You can find out more about this podcast at aretecoach.io. What role does marketing play in a post-truth world? Can we believe in ourselves enough to sell the image to other people? Hersh consults with Lorraine Ball, Marketing Strategist, Marketing Educator, and host of the More Than A Few Words podcast, to get a handle on what's always worked, what doesn't work, and what authenticity really means.Lorraine shares her stories of the glass ceiling effect, beginning as a Brooklyn girl working the phones for an oil company in West Texas: she could put on a Texas drawl, but she was still a woman, and it was a struggle to break into the C-Suite. Her goal was to be a VP, but every path was blocked. She cut her own swath, forging ahead toward success, noting that it took 30 years for that company to finally welcome women into the executive ranks.Key Takeaways:It's not about influencers, it's about influencing - What keeps your customer up at night? This central question will inspire your authenticity Our “glorious failures” are what clients pay us forIf Lorraine can shed her NY accent, so can youse!Related Links:https://morethanafewwords.com/

I went to school for accounting, did a master's degree and got my CPA license which is a certified public accountant. I went through that whole process of about five years and then I started my career in 2017 and pretty much right away hated it. I did not enjoy the work I was doing. I didn't find it fulfilling. I knew that even if I switched to a different field within accounting I wasn't going to enjoy the work and there was just something in me that was like there has to be more to life than going to a nine to five and sitting at a desk and punching numbers into a computer all day not. So it was only about a year into my job when I started thinking that I needed to make a change. At the time I was really passionate about fitness. I had been on my own fitness journey for a few years. I really enjoy being a personal trainer and being a fitness coach and helping people reach their goals in that way. That sounds really fulfilling to me and I also was seeing all of these coaches online that were coaching their clients from anywhere in the world. They had the freedom to set their own schedule to work when they wanted to and I wanted that. I wanted that freedom and that fulfillment and so I enrolled in a course to get my personal training certification. I ended up quitting my job in december of 2018 which was a year and a half after I started and then I launched my online coaching business which started as fitness coaching. So now it's obviously evolved into doing business coaching, social media management and I have my own podcast as well. —————————————————————————————————— If you found this helpful, drop a comment below. Always Have A Clear Promise Align the right product to the promise Align the right process to the promise Align the right people to the promise There are 3 components to a good promise. 1) What's the person? Who are we addressing? What is their problem? What is their pain point? What are they suffering from What's your unique solution to give them a better life? Everybody buys a better life so if you have the solutions to the problem to give them a better life and you can frame that in the right copy then you're going to be able to have a framework that's going to take this person from their problem to the solution The way that this happens is through the delivery of the right product, the right process and the right people. It's Not Just The Right Individuals I break that down into three different components. Your ideal client – Who do you want to work with? Your ideal team member Outsourced partners – any of the other people that make up the sphere of influence to deliver the promise. It might be your marketing partners, it might be your bookkeeping people, might be your human resources people that you outsource. When Burnout Hits You Hard We all have some level of burnout that we've experienced before, whether it's from finals week and we get tired at the end of that or from all the work that we did or it's from our family during the holidays and we're like, “I don't want to see you for a while”. The level of burnout that I got to was almost this kind of “shutdown level” of burnout and I didn't realize it was happening. It happened over the course of about six months and it took me by surprise. I didn't know what's going on. It started in about January and I would complete a project and instead of being excited or proud that I completed it, I would think to myself negative thoughts that the client will not like it or it will somehow not be good enough. Over the course of those next six months things started to progress. I would get done with a meeting and I'd be really frustrated and I would just like to rage quit and just be really angry or I would avoid client emails and I didn't want to open them because they were always needy or needed to do this or that and so I just left them alone. I got to a point where I would work 15 minutes and then I would be so bored with what I was doing I had to take a break. I had to go outside and walk or something like that but it would turn into an hour-long break. I was working by the hour and being paid by the hour. That's not really a good way to make money. Optimizing Your Linkedin Profile It is important to understand that the way people visit our profiles the first thing they see when I look at your profile is the banner and the profile photo. These give a very quick impression and it needs to be meaningful for your ideal reader. Simply uploading a banner is something that probably 99% of Linkedin users have not done and it will take 30 seconds with Canva and 30 seconds uploading it. The Best Content For Linkedin The best content I found to work on Linkedin is educational content. If you think about your ideal client and ask yourself, what are they struggling with and what educational content could I think of that would make them understand what I bring to the table. You have to think about the terminology you would use when someone searches for your specialty. What The Prospect Sees In The First 5 Seconds. Think about the first five seconds where they see the banner and the headline. Is it going to make people scroll down to get more information from the featured section on your profile? Have A Call To Action On Your Linkedin Profile The call to action should be instructions to go to your website here or download this piece of information. Digital Portfolio Inventory I recommend identifying the evergreen content that you have and leveraging it on Linkedin on your profile and sharing it in specialized groups. I call this a DPI, Digital Portfolio Inventory. You simply look at every content piece you have from the perspective of your prospect. You are simply informing them or giving them information that will help them run their business and you give away information that makes them view you as a trusted advisor. —————————————————————————————————— If you found this helpful, drop a comment below. Getting Fired Before Christmas The process started back in 2018 when I lost my job you know I had worked for a for-profit school and I had been in post-secondary education for over 15 years and one day in December 2018, less than a week before Christmas, I got a knock on my door and it was from our campus president. He said Mark , I need to see you in my office. So I go and our regional directors are there, all the other management team is in there and they tell us that they're closing their doors and not just for today and they're closing the doors for good. To add insult to injury they said they're doing that at five o'clock today. So literally I had about a six hour notice. I had no job a week before Christmas. Comfort Is The Casualty Of Growth I went home and called my wife. I told her that I was gonna be there for lunch today and she said great. I said but I'm not coming back to work, we're closing our doors. She immediately was kind of taken back and shocked. She didn't panic, she was the glue. She said to me” You know you've always had a passion for speaking to people, affecting change. You know you always had that adage that comfort is the casualty of growth.Well here you go you got comfortable and it stopped you from growing and now is your opportunity to take what you've done and take it to the next level. Time To Get Busy So after about three or four weeks of feeling sorry for myself, angry and agitated. Then I just started journaling about my feelings and about what was the lesson that I'm supposed to learn throughout all of this. A New Door Opens That opened the door in my mind. I kept continuing writing and decided to put out a youtube video. One Youtube Video Created A New Opportunity. On January 16 2019 I launched my very first youtube video that got well over 100 views and 100 likes which is unusual for a first video to get. It seemed to be getting traction so I just kept at it. Then in June of that year a good friend of mine came to me. He wanted to introduce me to a gentleman that owned a radio station, Star 107 FM based out of Columbus Ohio. We had a conversation and the gentleman's name is David Bynum. David liked what I was talking about and offered me an opportunity to present “The Process” on the radio every second Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. —————————————————————————————————— If you found this helpful, drop a comment below. Authoring A Book Elevates Your Status Let's just imagine two people and they both look very professional and they introduce themselves and one says, “Here's who I am. I have all these credentials”. The other person says and I am a published author. That author status elevates you! Get Through The Filter Everyone's filtering all the time as to whom should I believe, whom should I trust and who should I listen to. Everybody wants to get this wisdom to be as successful as possible, whether you're a solopreneur, or have a growing business. Writing A Book Got Me A $500K Contract I was on the women's business graduate advisory board while I was working on a book about strategic alliances with the head of internal alliances at Accenture. I met somebody by the name of Jocelyn Carter Miller. She is well known for successfully bringing Motorola into Latin America and rose to being Vice President Of Motorola Inc. I asked her a very significant question which was, “what's one thing that you haven't done in your career you'd like to do” and she said “I'd like to write a book” So I went back to my publisher Jossey-Bass and shared with them that I'd like to do one about the corporate side of networking. They agreed and we ended up working on the book together. After working with Jocelyn on the book, she asked if I would like to deliver a proposal to come in and work with her to help us look at best practices for building a world-class marketing initiative out of Motorola. I agreed and it ended up being a half a million dollar contract. My passion is about supporting authors as much as I can. The Pie Formula For Writing A Book Easily The crust of the pie is 30% of your book. It's your outline. That's so important that I spend a long time with authors to help them go through the outline All the great ghost writers I've spoken with will tell you that if you create a great outline you can write a great book. Using Amazon Reviews To Research For Your Book Idea One of the best places to research is Amazon. I consider Amazon a million dollar research tool because you can go in there and look at the thousands of categories. I usually recommend moving up from the one star reviews because it will make you feel good. You can look at any fantastic best-selling author example James Clear who wrote Atomic Habits. You can look at his one star reviews and you can see some things that readers wanted but that he failed to cover in his book. You can then write a book that is similar to The James Clear Book, but includes all the topics that he left out. Add 10% Of Your Personality To The Book The final piece of the pie is the garnish. It's going to be all about your personality and that's the final 10 percent. The remaining majority of the pie is your content. Podcasting Works, But It's Time Consuming A lot of people really want to do a podcast or they are doing a podcast and the thing that bothers them is that it's quite a lot of work. Is it possible to find a way to make podcasting easier and more scalable? Create Podcasts Without Even Being There Rumble Studio is an online Saas application that helps creators, businesses and agencies to create audio content like podcasts faster, easier and cheaper. We use asynchronous interviews. It's not live interviews but rather an automated interview where you prepare your questions in advance. You add them into Rumble Studio and or use one of our templates and then you can send a public link to one person or as many and each person who gets that link clicks it. They go through and they get interviewed by Rumble Studio. They get their own version of the interview and the studio takes them through the interview questions one question at a time. How The Aynchronous Interview Works The questions can be text only or they can be audio. If you've taken the time to record them up front, the guest hears your voice, asking them the first question. They click record and they answer it by recording their answer. If they make a mistake they can redo. If they want to build up their answer over time, they can record multiple segments so it's a zero pressure environment. You can really think about what they're going to say before they say it rather than just blurt out the first thing that comes into their head and then when they're ready they move to the next question. The creator then gets that audio back from one or multiple guests. They can put it together with your own audio, jingles or follow-up comments. Then you just export it into one or more episodes. Audio Processing On The Fly We remove the silence, we level the volume, add some eq and make it sound as good as we can without any editing. Just Give Guests Your Link You get just a single link and you can send that individually on email, instant messenger or whatever. You can make it public, you can put it on your website, you can even put it on your social media if you dare and anyone who clicks that link will go through and get the same set of questions and produce audio content for you A Perennial Interview Generating Too You can actually create a permanent interview. We have customers right now who just set five questions, they put the link up and it just sits there for months, just gathering more and more information and audio content from the people as they click on the link. —————————————————————————————————— Get Julian Leahy's #1 recommendation for starting and growing a business online: http://roadto3.com ★☆★ Subscribe to Julian's channel here ★☆★ https://roadto3.com/subscribe Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whenitworked Blog: https://roadto3.com/blog/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/whenitworked Podcast: https://whenitworked.com Follow Road To 3 Marketing Education: https://www.facebook.com/roadto3com Follow Julian personally https://www.facebook.com/julian.leahy.96/ ★☆★ Who Is Julian Leahy? ★☆★ The Pink Puzzle Incident (AKA My Bio) https://roadto3.com/the-pink-puzzle-incident/

This is when you don't do something when you could have done something. It's an error that is caused by abstaining from taking action. The Problem With Goal Setting If you give yourself a definition of success that is based on achieving a goal, what's going to happen on a subconscious level is that you're going to start prioritizing making errors of omission over making errors of commission. If you take no action at all then you haven't moved away from the goal. You haven't gone the wrong direction. So you're actually better off by staying exactly where you are than moving backwards or risking moving backwards. If you're not confident that you can move forwards or directly towards the goal you're going to avoid moving altogether. Incentivizing RIsk Avoidance If you're not confident, which is normal if you're just starting a venture, you're not going to be that competent probably because you're at that beginning stage of learning and so if you have those definitions of success you're going to avoid taking action over taking wrong actions. That's the exact opposite of what you want to be doing. Goals Should Orient You Not Intimidate You The point of goals is to orient you in space and to provide a reference point. Achieving a goal just for the sake of it will not make you feel satisfied in the long term. Goals work the best when they help you develop and get clarity in what you are doing. The Power Of Failure Failure is all about prioritizing making errors of commission because that's how you can actually see what direction you're moving in and then reflect on it. Then make a change and tweak things along the way. It's going to give you signs that you are going in the right direction. A New Definition Of Success I define success as reflection and angular change. Conscious, angular change. When I talk about reflection and angular change it's a definition of success that requires me to prioritize making errors of commission over making errors of omission. If you're doing it consciously, it forces you to change as a person. It's changing your orientations and direction. It's not just gliding along with inertia without thinking about it. It's All About Community Building When it comes to organic content or paid advertising I think it's worth looking at the fact that you can build a community online without paid advertising to start and there's a lot of things you can do organically to get out there. You can interact and comment on other places that your audience and your target audience will be likely to be. That's free, apart from your time which is not always free but that doesn't cost your business any money at the time. This is powerful especially for a small business, individual entrepreneur or start ups. Curating Content From Others If you are more established you have customers and supporters that are looking to actually create content in your own community. You could save a ton of time on new content creation and not worry about the expense of filming original design pieces by curating content from your supporters and followers as they share their own experiences with your business. Just Ask For Content Create a challenge that people can participate in. Get them to share their submissions on your own platform, whether it's using your hashtag or not. You are able to use those submissions later. If you can also put out content that's impactful or informative that people can actually respond to, you can then remix those responses and those comments. Easily Get Instagram Followers With The $1.80 strategy. It's just a matter of choosing content from 10 different hashtags within your niche and then commenting on nine posts every single day that you choose from that are maybe relevant to engage with. Three Simple Steps To Exceeding Goals 1) Focus On Building A Business That Reflects Your Authentic Self. We really focus on creating a business foundation that's aligned with who they are because I believe that the way you create your competitive advantage comes from you and who you are, your unique experience and your unique take. 2) Get Clear On The Customer Journey We focus and get clear on your customer journey and we lead with value. So really understanding who you serve, how and their journey with you from the beginning, when you meet them to when they become clients. It's all based on the concept that I call “lead with value”. Creating win-win situations for your clients. 3) Planning And Executing A plan that's not executed well doesn't do anything. So you need to have a simple plan. When things get complicated it's very difficult to implement plans consistently. Consistency is important. So having a simple plan that you're able to implement is crucial. Focus on the most important things. High value tasks that bring you business. Some entrepreneurs get drawn into activities that feel more safe like perfecting the website forever or deciding on business cards or things like that that don't really get you in front of your potential clients. Preparing For Growth Getting clear on your messaging so that once your business grows you can successfully handle it. Some of those actions might be building a team right or establishing certain processes and so on to prepare for growth. You need to be ready to absorb the clients that will flow in. There IS No Magic Bullet Marketing Mix There isn't one magic formula to your marketing. You just pick the marketing activities that resonate with you as long as that is also aligned with who their client is. If your clients are not using tiktok, then maybe you should be on Facebook for example. Crisis Or Opportunity? We found ourselves in a position where nobody was hiring so I started a web design business whose focus was on creating simple and effective websites for entrepreneurs and small businesses. It turns out my sales skills sort of outpaced my web design building skills because before we knew it we had a functioning company that had a pretty good client following and so we decided to pursue that. Making Yourself Scalable From The Start We were generating traffic, we were paying for ads and we were in a position to begin scaling. The advantage we had being a new business, you're not overly attached to your processes and you're able to do some things differently which are going to allow you to scale. It's important to do that in the beginning so that you don't get too big quickly, to the point where it's going to be difficult to undo what you've got and get yourself free from the business. Getting Sales Fast Is Key We did paid ads, we did paid social media, we did organic and free social media. We experimented with seo and outbound plus inbound sales. Outbound would be like picking up the phone and cold calling local businesses where inbound would be having those customers come to you typically through paid ads and things like that. Scaling Your Paid Ads Strategically what we did is we monitored their traffic generation capabilities essentially and really monitored the data to see which of these is out producing the others and then we narrowed that field down until we found things that were generally speaking outperforming the others. We tracked everything so we knew what was working. Refining Our Offer Based On Data' Data that you get from google analytics from and facebook analytics is so specific that you can refine important things like pricing based on which offers are working best in your campaigns. It's important to have a well-executed process so that your sales folks can filter through the noise and they can identify which people want what service. How Has Podcasting Impacted Your Business? When I first started, I decided I was going to talk about innovation in various aspects and look at it from the business, marketing and sales tactics mindset but then we expanded out into a lot of peripheral activities. I chose to reach out to a lot of the people that I had strong relationships with in my corporate career and they were spread all over the world and I thought the podcast is a great way to reconnect with those people and have conversations about what they're doing right now. Very quickly they introduced me to other people in similar situations to them and I started to realize this is a great way to learn stuff. I get to speak to an expert in their field for sometimes an hour and learn everything that I want to learn in that time by asking questions. I get to share it with my audience so the audience started to build up as I spoke about the podcast as we promoted it. After about episode 50 or so I started to realize that this was actually bringing me business. People were actually talking to me after the podcast guests were saying hey we need your help with something. They saw how I approached things and I liked the way I did that and so they thought you know they trusted me enough to allow me to help with other areas. Then I got very intentional about using podcasting as part of the marketing process. Does Podcasting Still Work As A Marketing Tool? There's a number of different ways that you can take advantage of the platform whether you're looking to start your own show as a means of communicating with your audience. It's a very fun and innovative way to do that and it allows you to create good content. If you want to utilize the podcast space as a value driven guest, that is a tremendous way to build your brand, expand your network and showcase your expertise. You find shows that align with your mission and your message and you make guest appearances and you make a serious impact on those shows and when the audience hears you, the idea obviously is to provide so much value that they seek you out for more. They follow your call to action, they come into your world and then you can provide them value in any way. Podcasting Is A Marathon Not A Sprint I tell anybody that I'm working with, if you're going to get into the podcast space you want to make sure that you're 100% committed to it. What If You Never Want To Have Employees The majority of people that I would work with got into the business because they love what they do. Maybe they come from the corporate world or they come from agency work or they come from some kind of bigger structure and they were always kind of frustrated with how things were done. Are You Doing What You Love Or Are You Just Doing Admin For Yourself? Creative and passionate people are led by something. But in the process of being your own boss you realize how little of it is actually delivering that service. Your time gets sucked up by all the marketing, admin and all of the things that go along with having a business. They get taken away from the service that they actually wanted to do in the first place. Defining Your Ideal Client A typical project is helping people to define their ideal client. The temptation is to either say everybody could benefit from my service or my ideal client is somebody just like me. You're not going to hire yourself so your ideal client is not you and it's not just everyone. You might be somebody who is brilliant at providing a certain service but you don't necessarily know all of these marketing/branding strategy things. It can be confusing when you step into the online world as a business owner. It's so noisy there's so many people trying to sell you courses, programs, coaching and branding and websites and ads but if you don't start with strategy you're going to end up throwing money into a vacuum. I talk about strategy as a way of getting leads and clients but strategy is really creating a meaningful business that's sustainable for you and actually suits how you want to spend your time. You have to ask how you want to spend your day?. What kind of income that you want to get? How does that income come to you? Take a look at what content you are putting out there and work out what is the most sustainable way of showing to get leads and clients online.
