This past July, Russ McKamey (owner of the World's Most Intense Haunted Attraction, McKamey Manor) was arrested for attempted murder. McKamey Manor is known for being an attraction where guests are physically and verbally abused. They can have teeth extracted without novocain, be buried alive, have their worst fears preyed upon amongst other things. Though guests are given a safe word to quit the experience, it is rarely respected. Let's talk about what the charges were, why they were ultimately dropped, and look into the history of how McKamey Manor became the horror show it is. McKamey Manor is known as one of the most extreme haunted houses in the world. Unlike traditional haunted houses where you walk through spooky scenes, McKamey Manor is more like a psychological and physical endurance test. Participants sign up for what can be hours of intense and frightening experiences, including being bound, gagged, and subjected to extreme situations that push them to their limits. To take part, people must sign a detailed waiver, pass a background check, and even get a doctor's note. The owner, Russ McKamey, personally runs the experience tailored to each participant's fears. However, the manor has been highly controversial, with many questioning whether it's just a haunted house or something much more dangerous. Despite the criticism, some people are drawn to it for the challenge and the thrill of seeing how far they can go. Check out the full episode now on all platforms. Russ McKamey is a gut with unique interests. For years now, he has hosted the premiere haunted house/horror survival challenge in the country. You have to apply, meet criteria, pass interviews and sign a 40 page waiver to qualify as a participant in a customized 8-10 experience of hands on interaction. Many are suspicious that Russ is a troubled man and is using the year round not for profit service as a way to explore his dark fantasies and derive lurid satisfaction from the suffering and terror of others. We continue in the realm of all things spooky this week with the story of Russ McKamey and his infamous Manor, Survive 8-10 hours and win $20,000. To this day not a single person has made it to the end, come find out why.
On this week's spooktacular special episode for October, Felicia & Lauren both take us through a couple of extreme haunted houses! Felicia kicks it off with the grandfather of extreme haunts - Blackout. This notorious NYC/LA-based immersive horror experience, tailored to people's individual fears, was created in 2009 to be the antithesis of the traditional haunted house and has been called “more performance art than haunted house" by its creators. Participants had to sign a liability waiver as Blackout's performers are able to touch and physically interact with the participants. And yet it still pales in comparison to Lauren's pick this week: the infamous McKamey Manor. McKamey Manor was created in San Diego by madman Russ McKamey, who describes it as a "survival horror boot camp experience.” If you beat McKamey and the manor, you receive a $20,000 grand prize. No one has ever won this prize, but participants do have to sign a 40 page waiver. The experience may involve guests being physically assaulted, waterboarded, forced to eat and drink unknown substances, or being bound and gagged, but the list goes on. And as you can imagine much controversy surrounds McKamey Manor and its creator. Listen with caution this week for a very spooky and memorable episode. This week I delve into the controversial and extreme haunted attraction known as McKamey Manor, an extreme haunted house attraction that has sparked intense debate and controversy. Located in Summertown, Tennessee, McKamey Manor is not your typical haunted house attraction. It bills itself as an extreme haunt experience that challenges its participants physically and mentally. The experience is not for the faint of heart; it involves extreme simulations of torture, confinement, and other traumas. What I'm trying to say is, you have to have at least one loose screw to want to participate. Participants must sign a 40-page waiver, undergo a background check, and pass a physical and mental exam before being allowed to take the tour. Once inside, participants are subjected to a grueling, hours-long experience that includes simulated drowning, extreme temperatures, and physical and psychological torture. The attraction has garnered significant criticism, with some describing it as a form of torture and exploitation. The owner, Russ McKamey, has defended the experience as a form of "survival horror" that pushes participants to their limits, claiming that no one has completed the experience to this day. However, many former participants have spoken out against the attraction, describing their experiences as traumatic and violating. Some have accused McKamey of manipulating and gaslighting participants and have criticized the attraction's lack of transparency and oversight. Exploring the complex issues surrounding McKamey Manor, including the ethics of extreme haunt experiences, the role of consent, and the legal and regulatory challenges posed by extreme attractions- this episode will force you to ask yourself, “how far is too far?” Have you checked out the new, super blank website? And Jack told of the horrors one lives through during a "tour" at McKamey Manor, which are more than anyone but Russ McKamey himself could dream up and inflict on a person.

She also covers the infamous McKamey Manor. "The Manor", as it's affectionately called by owner Russ McKamey, is a "home haunt" in Russ' backyard where his "actors" and himself torture people for hours on end, without a safe word, while filming it all. Warning: This episode contains audio that some may find disturbing, listener discretion advised. This week Hanna kicked off spook season with a word of caution for all of us who are seeking out attractions during the Halloween month. Always vet your haunt. The controversy that surrounds McKamey Manor cannot be understated. This place is so extreme that one employee says “death is a possibility,” and the messed up part is McKamey Manor's founder has a 40-page waiver to cover his hide in the event it goes south, so authorities cannot touch him. This is not a haunted house folks. It is torture. Participants (we are going to go ahead and call them victims) may not fully grasp what is going to happen to them within the confines of this house. The tricky part is that it has fallen into some legal loophole, claiming to be something that it clearly is not. Even within the extreme haunt community Russ McKamey is not accepted due to his sick Jigsaw like game.Below you will find a link to one of many petitions to shut down McKamey Manor.https://www.change.org/p/tennessee-state-senate-shut-down-mckamey-manorAll audio contained in this episode is used under the fair-use law and remains the intellectual property of its respective owner. McKamey Manor is a "haunted house" where guests are tortured, beat up, and nearly drowned, and it has a waitlist of over 20,000 people. In the late 90s and early 2000s, an amateur haunted house enthusiast, Russ McKamey, started hosting "haunts" in his backyard. Over the years he began to attract attention as these haunted house experiences became more and more extreme. By the late 2010s, he started to become nationally known for the fact that McKamey Manor had somehow devolved into an 8 hour torture session where guests consented to being beaten up, drowned, covered in bugs and snakes, and pushed to their psychological breaking point. This week on Realm of Darkness hosts Reeni and Ashley cover McKamey Manor. The McKamey Manor, originally founded in San Diego by Russ McKamey is an American haunted house considered a pioneer of "extreme" horror. The McKamey Manor facility in Summertown, Tennessee has also been the subject of many complaints in Lawrence County, tune in LIVE to wltkdb.com at 7 PM CST as Reeni & Ashley discuss and explore these complaints and more.
We feel like we tortured you enough with Tanzler, so we decided to take it easy on you this week and only talk about dark web rooms built solely for the purpose of torturing and murdering a human being for the entertainment of the rich and powerful. Red Rooms. Surly, that can't be real, right? WEEELLL. That brings us to the real life horror of Russ McKamey and his legal torture chamber of McKamey Manor.
Can you take fear too far? This week Jess talks about Russ McKamey and his barn of terror.
Buried Alive. Seriously, This Might Be Too Scary! No one's outlasted the horror-survivalist experience of McKamey Manor, a year-round extreme haunt that involves mind control, hypnosis and being buried alive. To hear owner Russ McKamey tell it, no one will. McKamey calls his extreme haunt "a game" and a "survival horror boot camp experience." It can last more than 10 hours at places around Summertown, Tennessee, and Huntsville, Alabama. McKamey warns no one has ever "beat the manor" or even gotten to the final Alabama level. Anyone who did will win a $20,000 prize. It seems odds are heavily stacked against those who travel from as far as the Netherlands to try.
Folks, every year around the month of October, millions of people flock to haunted houses to get their pants scared off! One such house is McKamey Manor where you may lose more than your pants if you are not careful. Russ breaks down how this Manor came to be and how its became more & more extreme throughout the years. To this day, no one has been able to complete the Manor's 10-hour run time even with the allure of a $20,000 dollar grand prize. Do you think you have what it takes to make it through McKamey Manor? Do you think you can beat Russ at his own game? Before you draw any assumptions, take a listen to this episode on Crime & Entertainment.

McKamey Manor. As soon as I heard about America's Most Extreme Haunt I wanted to know more. So I went online and did a little research and eventually ended up in contact with the owner and operator himself: Russ McKamey. I asked him to be on the podcast because I just HAD to know the details of what goes on in this place, and I wanted this info straight from the horse's mouth. He obliged and here we are.McKamey Manor is the most famous (or...infamous?) Extreme Haunt there is, with a waiting list of 20,000+ people, all vying for the chance to participate in one of the Haunt's "tours". The Manor's popularity has been a double edged sword though, putting Russ under some major scrutiny and making him the target of several hate groups. They say what Russ does is torture, Russ says it's all smoke and mirrors. Believe what you will, but I want to be sure to mention the fact that all the participants are consenting adults who are well aware of what they are getting themselves into when they decide to enter The Manor. I really enjoyed this conversation with Russ. It seems to me like he keeps safety at the forefront of his mind and is really just a guy who gets a kick out of giving his participants a good scare. They asked for it, after all. So take a listen, form your own opinion and, who knows? Maybe you'll decide you want to face McKamey Manor yourself.Watch some real McKamey Manor action on YouTubeVisit McKamey Manor's Website Tell me what you thought of this episode at strange.ish.podcast@gmail.comFollow me on IG for more content! @strange.ish.podcast
I sit down with Rich Ponder who knows the owner of Mckamey Manor. Here is the requirement list to do the haunt, it speaks volumes. 1. 21 and above, or 18-20 with parents approval. 2. Completed "Sports Physical" and Doctors letter stating you are physically and mentally cleared. 3. Pass a background check provided by MM. 4. Be screened via FB face time or phone. 5. Proof of medical insurance. 6. Sign a detailed 40 page waiver. 7. Pass a portable drug test on the day of the show. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jason-brenner/support
Happy Halloween! We are back with this year's edition of the Halloween Spectacular. This year, we interview Russ Kckamey, the owner and creator of what is considered by many, America's scariest and most extreme haunted house experiences, McKamey Manor. These events involve a long selection process, hours of extreme horror, with what seems like no limits. Mckamey Manor is known throughout the world. and proves to be one of the most intense, and controversial experiences around. Think you have what it takes? All it costs is a bag of dogfood. We also talk about 2020 Halloween costumes, stories about people getting rid of their own body parts, and we rewrite some movie classics into horror movies. Have a listen!
Erin and Nicole aren't 100%, but they think they've landed on the main reason anyone would consent to Russ McKamey torturing them in his "extreme haunt" experience: it has to be a sexual fetish, right? Why else would you want to visit McKamey Manor?! The name promises terry cloth bathrobes and a mint on your pillow, but it delivers a near drowning in a dirty bathtub and a helmet full of diarrhea water. McKamey Manor has been known as an "extreme haunted house" for years. When originally homed in San Diego, Russ McKamey (owner) employed "actors" who would subject the "guests" to physical assault (including whips, tasers, mouse traps), waterboarding, being bound and gagged, and psychological torture. In recent years, Russ moved McKamey Manor to small town, rural Tennessee and no longer uses "actors". Though the location and the haunt has changed, is Russ able to escape the controversies that have surrounded the Manor? Grab a drink and join us this week as we explore McKamey Manor and the controversies that have followed it across the country. Our booze of choice this week: Guinness. Ashley and Cam kick off the spooky season by telling you all about the chilling world of extreme haunts, and just how far people will go to give themselves a fright! Jeepers Creepers! Ashley goes over the history of haunted houses and how they've become more and more intense and well... extreme, over the years, while saying "super" a ridiculous amount of times. She also covers the infamous Mckamey Manor. "The Manor", as it's affectionately called by owner Russ Mckamey, is a "home haunt" in Russ' backyard where his "actors" and himself torture people for hours on end, without a safe word, while filming it all. The videos are then put on YouTube as torture porn for others to enjoy (or be utterly disgusted and enraged by)! There was a lot to go over with the happenings at, and the mysteries surrounding, Mckamey Manor, so we decided to make this a two-parter. Make sure to tune in next week when Cam talks about Blackout! It was one of the first extreme haunts, and is still one of the most intense. It promises a "psychosexual immersive horror experience", and it delivers! A few weeks back, before we sat down to record our Hot Chicken episode, Bucky came rolling in, fired up about some "Haunted House" called McKamey Manor. He proceeded to describe to Juicebox and Old Boy, in detail, the history of this "Haunt" and it's owner/proprietor Russ McKamey. After 45 minutes of Bucky trying to convince us that he could make it through the Haunted House that no one has made it through Juicebox finally got fed up, yelling "Shut up about this stupid torture house!" Fast forward three weeks and here we are talking about it on a podcast, much to Juicebox's displeasure. We'll dive into some of the things that could happen to you if you decide to attempt the Manor (spoiler, it's torture), speculate on what the real point of all of this is and ponder what type of person would want to attempt this (Bucky). Enjoy?

(originally published on Oct 30) If you're in a state of post-Halloween blues, and aren't ready to let go of spooky season just yet, this is the episode for you. Matt, Sal, and (briefly) David discuss horror films, Stephen King's theory of why people enjoy horror fiction, H.P. Lovecraft being a racist weirdo, Sal's eccentric cousin, Tahoe Tessie, "extreme haunted house" McKamey Manor, and short stories and music to enjoy for Halloween. Excuse the slight crackle in the audio, don't know what happened. Extra Stuff Fun fact I forgot to bring up during the pod: the voice of the killer in "Scream" was provided by Roger L. Jackson, a voice actor also known for voicing Mojo Jojo on "Powerpuff Girls." And: "Scary Movie" was the original working title for "Scream," ironically. Russ McKamey does charge for his "service": one bag of dog food. And: no one knows if the $20K prize is legit since no one's ever made it through to the end of McKamey Manor. McKamey Manor used to be a notorious terror attraction in Rancho Peñasquitos, but now the manor haunts in new locations in Tennessee and Alabama. This is a haunted house taken to extreme --- YouTube videos of tours of McKamey Manor when it was based in San Diego showed participants vomiting, weeping and bruised, a young man crying out to be released as his head is shoved under water and other unsettling imagery — much of which is “smoke and mirrors,” according to the proprietor Russ McKamey. In its new locations, McKamey Manor is still getting criticism for the tours, including a petition on Change.org to close down the attraction. McKamey has denied allegations by people who claimed that they suffered serious physical and emotional injuries during his tours, saying he captures all the experiences on video he can use to dispute false allegations. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
Haunted houses, roller coasters, scary movies - these are all fun ways to get your adrenaline pumping and a nice healthy dose of fear. But for some, this just doesn't cut it. These thrill-seeking adrenaline junkies seek to experience a type of terror that can only be achieved by being beaten, buried alive, waterboarded, and psychologically tormented. Fortunately for them, many extreme haunted houses will happily make all their nightmares come true.

In this episode we talk about the film Hell Fest. We give our thoughts and reactions to the film and give a little rundown of the action. Then, we turn our attention to a few extreme haunted attractions around the country (and the world). We end with a long discussion about Russ McKamey and his extreme "home" haunt "The McKamey Manor" (it turns a little dark at that point). Anyway, turn the lights off and take a listen. Hope you enjoy and as always ... keep it creepy.

This week's episode got a little topsy turvy! We go right into the stories and bring banter up at the end. It's not a change in format, just a wacky life week working its way into the show. Sarah starts us off with the story of the Hannah House in Indiana, a good ol' fashioned haunting to bring us back to earlier days. Stephanie touches on the phenomenon of torture tourism and one of the more infamous destinations: McKamey Manor. Run by Russ McKamey, people pay (in 50lb bags of dog food donations) to go through a night of living hell. You'll be weirded out, but also incredibly amused by what we have to tell you.
