Sachin Pilot trying to crashland Congress I BJPs Prospects in Rajasthan | Sanjay Dixit
What is really happening between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot on and off fight? Who has the upper hand in Rajasthan? What are the prospects for the BJP in Rajasthan as the Rajasthan govt already has freebies in play? Is Vasundhara Raje the best bet for BJP? Or could... someone else could be the best bet? Who could all that be? Sanjay Dixit of Jaipur Dialogues & former IAS walks us through the past present & future of Rajasthan Politics #SachinPilot #AshokGehlot #VasundharaRaje #Rajasthan #Election2023 #RajasthanElections #Congress #BJP
1. Congress is caught in a big crisis, being unable to decide between Siddaramaih and D K Shivakumar --after impressive win in Karnataka; Shivakumar camp is firm that he should be given the opportunity to head the government as he had revived the party organisation at a time when it was hit by defections and desertions. His supporters also pointed out that Shivakumar enjoyed the backing of powerful caste groups such as the Vokkaligas and Lingayats. They also argued that Siddaramaiah's emphasis on personality-based politics did not make him a team player, and alleged that the supporters of the former Chief Minister had sabotaged the election of former KPCC chief G. Parameshwar from Koratagere in 2013. However, supporters of Siddaramaiah argued that he not only enjoyed the support of the majority of the newly elected MLAs but is also responsible for Congress' mass outreach among AHINDAs, an acronym for the rainbow coalition of religious minorities, Other Backward Classes and Dalits. 2. In Rajasthan, young Sachin Pilot, then Congress chief in the state, was seen to have led the party to victory in 2018 but the Gandhis, as seen often, chose the old guard, in Ashok Gehlot, for the CM's chair. It was a decision that has kept the Rajasthan Congress divided into two, though unequal, groups. Pilot mounted a mini-revolt against the party but couldn't pull off his coup in 2021 because Gehlot had the numbers. However, Gehlot's revolt in 2022 was by no means mini: he said a defiant no to becoming the Congress national president, a one-stone-two-birds ploy of the Gandhis aimed at clearing up Rajasthan for Pilot. A similar conundrum was seen in Punjab where Navjot Singh Sidhu, as state party chief, was leading the 2022 assembly election while his bªte noire, Amarinder Singh, was the CM. On the eve of the polls, the Congress played the Dalit card by making Charanjit Singh Channi the chief minister but the Amarinder-Sidhu and anti-incumbency mess was too much to be cleared by such last-minute gimmicks. The AAP won the border state, one more step toward replacing the grand old party as India's potent opposition force. 3. Will Karnataka set the political mood for 2024 Lok Sabha elections? The results of the Karnataka Assembly elections has given the much-needed momentum to the entire Opposition camp--not just the Congress but other parties who believe that the recent crushing defeat to the BJP juggernaut has proved that no citadel is completely impregnable and no leader is invincible. The fact of the matter is BJP did not do well in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh in 2018 Assembly elections but it still swept the four states in 2019 Lok Sabha elections #Karnataka #siddaramaiah #dkshivakumar #BJP #Congress #RajasthanElection #MadhyaPradeshElection #chattisgarhElection #Election2023 #SachinPilot #AshokGehlot #RahulGandhi #SoniaGandhi #PriyankaGandhi

Nothing seems to be going easy for the Congress. Even selecting and electing a non-Gandhi family member as the Congress president has proved to be a tall order. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot claimed that he didn't know anything about a pro-incumbent revolt in the state legislature party even as Sachin Pilot waits in the wings to become Chief Minister. After an apology to party president Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Gehlot opted out of the Congress president's race. The contest is now between Malikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor.

The grand old party of Indian politics is in shambles. With a weak presence in Parliament of only 44 seats, the Congress has lost much of its voice and influence. Its state governments are racked by internal dissent and the leadership cannot seem to makeup its mind.Much of the blame is laid at the door of the Gandhi family - Sonia Gandhi and her two children Rahul and Priyanka - and their grip on the party. But is that the only reason? On this episode, host Sidharth Bhatia is joined by Prof. Neera Chandhoke. She has been studying Indian politics for a long time. She was Professor of Political Science at Delhi University, and is now a Distinguished Fellow at Centre for Equity Studies. She has authors several books on politics and civil society, and contributes regularly to newspapers and online news portals.Sidharth and Prof. Chandhoke talk about the Indian National Congress' loss in seats, popularity and even relevance, the BJP's systematic attacks and trolls on Rahul Gandhi having stuck, the problems with the Congress Party currently, whether the Congress is in crisis, how the top leadership can't stand each other, why they need to hold internal elections as to the leadership of the party itself, the Gandhi family's hold on the party, and lots more. In this first segment, Manoj CG talks about how the Rajasthan political crisis appears to have finally come to an end, what it reveals about the Congress and Sachin Pilot’s future in the party. Next, Apurva Vishwanath talks about the Supreme Court judgement that expands on the rights of Hindu women to be joint legal heirs and inherit ancestral property on terms equal to male heirs (14:52). And in the end, we take a look at the incident of mob violence in Bengaluru that killed 3 people and injured 50 policemen (25:25).
Congress leader Sachin Pilot responded to him being called ‘nikamma’ by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Speaking to Hindustan Times’ National Political Editor Sunetra Choudhury, Pilot said he was deeply hurt by the comments and chose not to respond to them. “I have to admit when I heard some of the language used against me, it did deeply hurt me. I felt I was wronged and aggrieved and then to hear the things that I heard. To say the least, it wasn't charitable and unparliamentary, of course. But two wrongs don't make a right, I'm not going to retort in the same tone and tenor. It's unbecoming of people in public life to take the level of discourse to a point where people think it's unbecoming. I chose not to respond,” he said. Listen to the full episode for more!
After meeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi & Priyanka Gandhi, Sachin Pilot dropped his rebellion and decided to return to Rajasthan a month after breaking ranks with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The Rajasthan CM said he will hear out and resolve the issues. In this episode of Politically Correct, DK Singh breaks down who is the real winner of the present scenario.
Sachin Pilot is back in the Congress party fold. Pilot's short lived rebellion, which took shape on 11 July, concluded with a tweet at 1am on 11 August. In his tweet he thanked Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, as well as Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for “noting & addressing our grievances.” Earlier on Monday, Pilot had met former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Rahul's Tughlak Road residence. Soon after the meeting, the Congress party put out a statement saying: “They have had a frank, open and conclusive discussion. Shri Sachin Pilot has committed to working in the interest of the Congress party and the Congress government in Rajasthan.” While Pilot's short lived rebellion may appear to be a closed chapter in Rajasthan politics, several key questions around Pilot's return require a deeper probe. Why and how did he return to the Congress? How does one assess Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot's handling of the political crisis? What role did Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra play? And can one say the BJP's Rajasthan edition of ‘Operation Kamal' to topple the Congress government has ended in failure? The thirty days between Sachin Pilot landing in Delhi from Jaipur with 19 MLAs and his patch up with Congress, witnessed high drama that unfolded with dozens of twists and turns. The Rajasthan assembly speaker, the governor, the high court, the supreme court all became the unwitting cast of a political crisis that kept the state on the brink and nearly toppled its elected government. The only predictable part of the unpredictable twists was MLAs being lodged in 5-star resorts, far away from their elected constituencies. We are joined today by The Quint's political editor Aditya Menon who will guide us through the political rollercoaster.

In this week’s NL Hafta, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kripal, Mehraj D Lone, Manisha Pande and Anand Vardhan are joined by Suhasini Haider, diplomatic editor of the Hindu. The conversation kicks off with discussing how Iran dropped India from the Chabahar-Zahedan rail project. Abhinandan asks Suhasini how this might affect India. “There’s this kind of FOMO. Right now, you don’t want to be cut out of any geo-strategic game, especially when a country like China is signing a massive deal with them,” she says. She also talks about the scanty coverage of foreign policy issues in the current political climate. The discussion moves on to “cancel culture”. Has it been taken too far, or is it a “conspiracy” by boomers to call post-millennials “too soft”? In Manisha’s opinion, “Cancel culture kills innovative thoughts.” Mehraj brings up the privileges and narrowed gaze of cancel culture. He adds, “There’s no greater threat to free thought than self-censoring.” The panel also discusses whether cancel culture is an elite fad of the West, and if it works in the Indian context. On the ongoing political crisis in Rajasthan, Raman believes it was triggered by chief minister Ashok Gehlot, whom he says was promoting his sons and the Gujjar netas in the state. Sachin Pilot, he says, was “hardly functional” as deputy chief minister, and “at this juncture, it was important for him to revolt”. Mehraj thinks the victimhood of Pilot is “amusing, as there’s no ideological battle here” .The panel also compares Jyotiraditya Scindia and Pilot, discusses the curious case of apologies by Indian comedians, and debates whether ideology really matters in Indian politics. It became clear soon after the news of Sachin Pilot's rebellion in Rajasthan broke that his path to an advantageous exit from the Congress was going to be less straightforward than Jyotiraditya Scindia's just a few months ago. As Pilot has now been sacked from the posts he held in Rajasthan and looks set to formalise his exit from the party, we look at his track record, analyse the narrative that he was denied opportunities that were due to him and look at where he may go next. Can he negotiate a comfortable position like Scindia or is he ready for a long battle to redemption? Guest: Varghese K. George, Associate Editor, The Hindu. Sachin Pilot has finally declared war on the Congress. This was long waiting to happen, ever since the Congress top command chose veteran leader Ashok Gehlot over him as Rajasthan chief minister after the December 2018 assembly election. Pilot made no bones about his resentment or of being short-changed. Since then, he has done precious little to cement his position as a politician or administrator, sulking all the time, targeting Gehlot and turning into a rebel without a cause. In this episode of Politically Correct, DK Singh analyses analyses the situation to know if this is a struggle of a power-hungry dynast or a victim of the Congress structure.
Catch the latest news of 14/07/2020 ** Two more coronavirus deaths, and 270 new cases of the virus, in Victoria.// **The Congress in Rajasthan, India is on the brink as rebel leader Sachin Pilot was sacked as Deputy Chief Minister and removed as state party chief.
The Congress on Tuesday sacked Sachin Pilot from the posts of Rajasthan's deputy chief minister and the party's state unit chief, appointing Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra in his place. Cracking the whip on the rebel party leader, the party also removed his loyalists Vishvendra Singh and Ramesh Meena from the state cabinet. AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala announced the decision after a Congress Legislature Party meeting held here amid a tussle for power between Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Why Congress is facing a crisis The ruling party in Rajasthan is facing a crisis after the rebellion by Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and dissident MLAs. Pilot has been upset about the fact he was denied the Rajasthan chief minister's post after the December 2018 assembly elections. Sachin Pilot skipped the second Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, even as the Congress decided to remove him from the posts of the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and the Rajasthan Congress chief. At least 102 Congress MLAs from the state demanded action against Pilot. While Gehlot's supporters were shifted to Fairmont Hotel in Jaipur, the Pilot camp released a video showing around 15 MLAs sitting together at an undisclosed location. It is said that top Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi, P Chidambaram and Rahul Gandhi all have been trying to get in touch with Pilot, but the crisis is stuck at stalemate. It's a power tussle between the old and the new in Rajasthan, and the bone of contention is the seat of the Chief Minister. After almost two years of a simmering internal rift in the Congress's Rajasthan unit between the current Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy CM Sachin Pilot over the post, the feud has come out in the open over the weekend.Pilot who has been camping in Delhi after an open revolt against Gehlot, skipped a legislative meeting on Monday that had mandated the presence of all members. He also claimed to have the support of 30 MLAs which if true could reduce the Gehlot-led government into the minority. On the other hand, as many as 100 MLAs arrived at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's residence on Monday to prove the government's majority. The two leaders had been at loggerheads since 2018, after Gehlot got a third shot at being the Chief Minister of the state even as Pilot hoped it would be his turn, but what aggravated the political differences between the two now? Will Rajasthan see a repetition of what happened in Madhya Pradesh with the Kamal Nath-led Congress government? Will the Gehlot government be able to withstand this crisis or will Sachin Pilot bring down it down?Producer and Host: Shorbori PurkayasthaEditor: Shelly Walia Music: Big Bang FuzzListen to The Big Story podcast on: Apple: https://apple.co/2AYdLIl Saavn: http://bit.ly/2oix78C Google Podcasts: http://bit.ly/2ntMV7S Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2IyLAUQ Deezer: http://bit.ly/2Vrf5Ng Castbox: http://bit.ly/2VqZ9ur

Acclaimed journalist Rajdeep Sardesai is the author of several books including Newsman: Tracking India in the Modi Era and 2014: The Election that Changed India. This week's Reporters Without Orders features our host Amit Bhardwaj with Rahul Kotiyal, special correspondent Prateek Goyal and Snigdhendu Bhattacharya from Hindustan Times.Amit starts the podcast by asking Snigdhendu about the Bharatiya Janata Party's Rath Yatra in Kolkata, which was supposed to be hosted on December 7 but was blocked by the Trinamool Congress. They discuss how the whole thing was rebranded from a Rath Yatra to a "Save Democracy" programme. The panel moves on to the rumours surrounding Varun Gandhi leaving the BJP and joining the Congress and how news reports constantly feed these rumours. Rahul adds: “In the Congress, the sky is the limit for Varun Gandhi and he'll be a threat to Rahul Gandhi if he joins.”Amit talks about Kamal Nath becoming the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and his race for the position. The panel also talks about the cut-throat competition between the two parties and how the BJP's anti-incumbency factor played out in the state. Rahul notes: “The BJP's strategy is to praise the Modi-Shah duo and blame it on local leaders if they lose elections.”Next, they discuss the reason behind the strong win of the Congress in Rajasthan, and where Vasundhara Raje failed and Sachin Pilot succeeded. Amit says the unemployment factor amongst the youth and the farmer crisis contributed. Prateek quotes people of Rajasthan saying, “Modi tujhse bair nahi, Vasundhra teri khair nahi” which the Congress claims was given by the RSS while the BJP blames the Congress. Nevertheless, the slogan claims that Narendra Modi still has a certain hold in Rajasthan, but Amit says Modi's charm has diminished as “voters of Modi are in a toxic relationship which you know is not working out, but you just don't want to quit it”.For this and more, listen up!
