Infamous for spending years in completing a film, Bollywood's ‘perfectionist' Aamir Khan has confirmed that his next film will release in December 2024. The veteran actor was last seen in the Forrest Gump remake L gaal Singh Chaddha in 2022. Details regarding the actor's upcoming film have been kept under wraps. However, it has been revealed that the film will be released on the 20th of December 2024, and it will clash with Akshay Kumar's Welcome To The Jungle – the third film in the Welcome franchise. Co-incidentally, another Aamir Khan film, Taare Zameen Par, locked horns at the box office with the first Welcome film in 2007.

Its quarterly loss has widened. It is facing scrutiny for a series of mid-air technical snags. And its CFO has quit. India's budget airline SpiceJet is in descent. So what is next for the airline? SpiceJet was hit by a somewhat similar storm in 2014. And a change in ownership had steered it out then. After the Indian skies, let us shift our focus to its roads -- which are all set to witness a big change in the next few years. This change will stamp out pollution and noise from the traffic. Electric vehicles are set to take India by storm. They are trickling in, one by one.  And foreign as well as domestic companies have lined up a host of variants. The stage is set for the electric vehicle revolution in India.  Hindi cinema too seems to have run into rough weather, just like SpiceJet. PVR and Inox Leisure are bearing the brunt of Bollywood's failure at the Box Office. The poor performance of Laal Singh Chaddha, and Shamshera have forced investors to dump multiplex stocks amid fears of sub-par earnings. Going forward, analysts see a rocky road for related players as lack of good content, and the rise of OTT platforms keep moviegoers away from theatres.  Supply-chain disruption, soaring crude oil prices, shooting inflation and resultant market uncertainty had forced global investors to rush for “safe haven” currency-- the US dollar. It is also called the world's reserve currency. But what exactly is reserve currency? Listen to this episode of the podcast to know more.

The jaw-dropping success of movies such as KGF Chapter 2 and RRR had lifted spirits of multiplex owners, who were looking to shake off the pandemic blues after two long years. However, latest regional movies including Liger have failed to cheer the Box Office. Besides, Bollywood movies such as Laal Singh Chaddha, Shamshera and Dobaaraa, too, have faced public backlash. All of this, analysts say, will lead to a bumpy road for listed players like PVR and Inox Leisure. Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities says only handful of regional movies do well nationwide. Revenue from South Indian movies unlikely to fill the gap. Multiplexes need good show from Bollywood movies. Pinning hopes on regional movies is too optimistic.  Shares of PVR and Inox Leisure have slumped around 14% each over the past one month as revenue from Bollywood movies account for 40-45% each for both these players. In comparison, the BSE Sensex was unchanged during the period. Financially… ...PVR reported highest-ever revenue and net profit of Rs 1,000.4 crore, and Rs 68.3 crore, respectively, in the June quarter of FY23.Inox, meanwhile, reported record revenue of Rs 589 crore, and profit of Rs 74 crore. However, this was largely driven by higher food and beverages revenue, lower employee costs and higher other income. Further, Net Box Office Collection, as a percentage of revenue, improved only 2 percentage points for both, PVR and Inox Leisure. Moreover, Inox Leisure clocked a mere 6% increase in footfalls above the pre-pandemic levels, while PVR is yet to recover the lost ground. G CHOKKALINGAM, FOUNDER AND CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER, EQUINOMICS RESEARCH says, movie goers are switching to OTT. Low budget movies are being released directly on OTT platforms. Big ticket movies make their way to streaming apps after two-three weeks of Box Office run. OTT will eat into multiplexes' revenues in the long-run.    Against this backdrop, analysts see another 10-15% correction in stock prices. They also expect weak earnings to put pressure on price-to-earnings valuation multiples.  On Friday, stock-specific action and auto sales data will guide investors. Globally, market participants will await the US jobs data.

I will keep this view spoiler-free and neutral, discussing only cinematic merits. Remaking classics is a high-risk, high-return game. It's either a hit or a miss, rarely do we get an in-between experience. Laal Singh Chaddha will be viewed by multiple audience segments, so I will share views basis the audience type so that one can relate better. Category 1) Indian audiences who have never seen Forest Gump. Those who have not seen the original may take a liking to the adaptation since their reference to the context will be limited. You may struggle with the PK resemblance or the mannerisms, but it is what it is. The boycott rhetoric should not have any bearing on what the movie is trying to portray, and you should view it as a standalone movie without any excess baggage. Category 2) Indian audiences who have seen Forrest Gump. Replicating an original cult classic is akin to finding water on Mars. Emotions are high, and rationale suggests why even bother remaking something near perfect? Yet, if you can wear a neutral hat, switch off Tom Hanks from your mind; chances are you may like the movie, though strictly cinematically, it has room for improvement. Category 3) International audiences with limited understanding of Indian cinema. There are tons of local cultural and historical references which might be alien to you; therefore, the movie may be less relatable unless you view it as a single standalone movie. I'd get you started gradually with shorts (20mins) like Chutney, Juice, and Interior Cafe(easily available on youtube) to get warmed up to Indian artistry at its finest, then gradually make their way into mainstream movies. I hope this gives you all some insight, but as they say, someone's chicken is somebody's burger! Art means different things to different people. It's official! Shah Rukh Khan will make a guest appearance in Aamir Khan's upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha. The news was confirmed by Aamir himself during an interview. The film which is an official remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, also features Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh. Aamir plays the titular character in the film which is slated to hit theatres on Thursday.

Adapting / remaking a cult classic is fraught with danger, yet it needed to be remade to introduce Indian audiences to Forrest Gump , thought the makers of Lal singh Chaddha! However, the troll army dug out an old tweet, taken out of context mostly, and now have launched a bonafide campaign against the movie! Nobody has seen a single frame of the actual movie and they are already dissing it online. On the other hand if you ahve actually seen the movie and do not like it, that's absolutely fair. As a filmaker they'd want to know where they went wrong? Link to Part 2 And as most critics often do, they point out technical flaws , which becomes the basis of their assessment. the final judgement is of the viewer, whether to accept it despite it's flaws or reject it, even if there were no flaws. So in this episode I dive into the mechanics of trolling and understand the motives and business impact of a troll movement. Liking or disliking a movie is a personal choice, imposing it on someone else, is not.
