Mikołaj Sondej to pochodzący z trójmiasta marynarz i drwal, miłośnik podróży i poszukiwacz przygód. Serdecznie zapraszamy do wysłuchania rozmowy! Partnerem podcastu jest marka eobuwie.pl oraz Salomon Running.
Today, we are thrilled to welcome professional ultra trail runner and Ironman triathlete Lucy Bartholomew to the show. Lucy has talked so openly about the high highs and the low lows of doing what she is called to in this life, and yet she continually persists to, as she says, uplevel to a new devil. At age 27, Lucy is already a trail running veteran with course records, podium finishes, and many lessons along the way. Lucy has crossed the finish line at the most significant events in the sport, like the Tarawera Ultramarathon, Western States, and, most recently, Ultra Trail Du'Mont Blanc, where she placed 10th. She has also embarked on solo adventures that have taken her to the limit, like the 231 K trek along the Larapinta Trail in Australia's Northern Territory. Salomon Running created a fantastic film, Running Out, which documents this incredible feat. But the piece that caught our attention was last year when Lucy crossed the finish line at Ironman Western Australia and qualified for the Ironman World Championship, which takes place in Kona, Hawaii, in just a few weeks. Trail and triathlon, they said it couldn't happen, and now it is all the time. We love the crossover, we love what we've seen in following Lucy's story, and we're so grateful to have this beam of sunshine with us today. We hope you enjoy the show. Thank you for listening. Be sure to check out NEW PATREON tiers to support this, and the Awake Athlete podcasts; let's keep both commercial-free! In this episode, we discuss: - Finding flow again at Tarawara - UTMB and Ironman World Championship - Pinnacles of the sport side by side - Endurance sports is problem-solving with a little exercise in between - Happening "to" you or "for" you - Process and privilege of getting gritty - The honor of knocking on the pain cave door and being let - Calm, confident, curious - Outrun the love of running - When you think you know it, you don't - All gear, no idea - Biggest learning from Ironman Western Australia - Nutrition changes from ultrarunning to triathlon - Lucy's dad's experience at Western States 100 Endurance Run - Trusting intuition to fuel the body with plants - Favorite dish from her cookbook - Dahl - zero waste recipe - Resonating with professional athlete Heather Jackson - Favorite moment of UTMB Namaste- Jess

Dean Leslie is a South African filmmaker who is the founder of Wandering Fever, a company born out of a love for the wild and the ability to tell stories through film. Dean is responsible for most of Salomon TV’s summer films and has been for the last seven years. He has played a pivotal role in how trail and ultra running is documented around the world.Dean's work has taken him to every continent, chasing down the world’s foremost endurance athletes and documenting the ways in which we interact with some of the world’s most stunning landscapes. Over the past decade he has spent most of his time on the road, a topic we discuss extensively. With Dean's belief that 'passion & balance are mutually incompatible'. We discuss the other spheres of his life which were neglected during his filmmaking career, and how he now has a consciousness in what it takes to pursue a passion. What I admire about Dean's work is that it explores the human struggle in endurance (both the professional and personal ones) with compassion not drama. His films show a curiosity and engagement with locals and the nature, without blindly exoticizing foreign places and peoples. This conversation explores the trajectory of Deans career (from animation to photography to film) and his belief that if you say YES to something you need to be 100% in, regardless of the financial reward. We also discuss:the filmmakers voice in a storyHis relationship with childhood friend Ryan SandesThe relationship and trust he fosters with his subjectsEarly challenge in making running look 'cool', yet its similarity to surfing with expansive landscapes and the solitude figureMeeting fascinating people from Scott Jurek, Tony Krupicka, Caballo BlancoThe early grind of reporting and documenting racesThe importance of looking for niche pockets - where he moved away from documenting races/competition to focus on the human storyHis relationship and autonomy with Salomon TVThe difference between a documentary and an advert.... the truth! The stress and depression that emerged through the Great Himalayan Project, and how he got out of itThe cathartic process of editing.Life as a DadThis is a ripper, you can find Deanhttp://wanderingfever.com/socials @thewanderingfeverVimeo - https://vimeo.com/wanderingfever

In this episode we speak with ultra runner Courtney Dauwalter -winner of the 2019 Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc -the most prestigious trail ultramarathon in Europe. She has also finished first at the Tahoe 200, Western States 100, Moab 240 and many other ultras. And in the quick tip segment you will hear about nutrition strategies for building muscle and promoting recovery. Interview with Courtney Dauwalter photo credit: Scott Rokis PhotographyWe are thrilled to get a chance to speak with Courtney Dauwalter -a runner we have admired for some time. Courtney describes herself as an “ultra runner with a love for sunshine, long inseams, and candy.” Since 2011 Courtney has won 38 marathons and ultras according to UltraSignup, 13 of these races she was the 1st place overall finisher beating all the men! Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc In September she won the famous Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, considered to be the World Cup of ultra running. Over 2,000 of the top trail runners in the world toe the start line. This 106 miles race starts in Chamonix, France, and runs through the Alps (total elevation gain of 32,940 feet), crosses the boarder into Italy, then Switzerland, and back to Chamonix where thousands of cheering spectators and media welcome the champions. Courtney was the first place female with a time of 24 hours, 34 minutes and 26 seconds finishing 1 hour ahead of 2nd place. photo credit: Courtney Dauwalter, InstagramTahoe 200 We also talk about the 2018 Tahoe 200 which is a (you guessed it) 200 mile race around Lake Tahoe -the largest alpine lake in California. Runners must cover the distance in 100 hours (4 days). Courtney did it in 49:54:36 and was the 1st place female finisher (and course record holder). She slept a total of only 21 minutes of the nearly 50 hours of running. To get a sense of the “pain cave” see this video by Salomon Running. Up Next Courtney will be competing for team USA in the 24 Hour World Championships in France. This format requires runners to rack up as many miles as possible on a 1 kilometer loop in 24 hours. The highest distance wins. Also competing for team USA will be Camille Herron (current world record holder), Katalin Nagy, Megan Alvarado, Gina Slaby, and Pam Smith. Follow Courtney on social media here: Instagram | Twitter | FacebookAlso Mentioned in This Episode The Revel Kulia Marathon in Hawaii. This will be Angie’s final marathon in her 50 state quest! Still time to sign up for the race and meet us there. Angelo Poli, metabolism expert and founder of MetPro, joined us to answer the question, “Are there nutrition strategies for building muscle and promoting recovery?”. Since November Angie has lost 31 pounds and got her marathon time back down to Boston Qualifying level using the MetPro system. Visit www.metpro.co/mta for a free consultation call.Shout Out! Today I ran the Medieval Marathon in Kilkenny, Ireland. My goal was to just run and enjoy being in another country. To my surprise, I ended up getting a PR by a few minutes. I came through the finish around 4:19:15, and my previous PR was 4:21:45, and this course had 900ft more of elevation gain compared to my other PR! . . . I spent the second half of the race in the pain cave, but I couldn’t help but revel in the fact I was running in a most beautiful country. I have to give thanks once again to MTA and Coach Chris for getting me inspired and all trained up to PR even when I wasn’t having the best day! -Emily The post Exploring the “Pain Cave” with Courtney Dauwalter appeared first on Marathon Training Academy.

To quote Mr. Warren Pole, "If you fall in Fall running Fell, now you have something!" Nicky Spinks is an accomplished fell runner out of northern England. Nicky and Warren Pole join The Nation to discuss what Fell running is, its origins, and where it fits with trail and ultra running. We discuss one of the famous fell run challenges, the Bob Graham Round. Named after Bob Graham, who in June 1932 broke the Lakeland Fell record by traversing 42 fells within a 24-hour period, at the age of 42. Each summer around 100 of the most highly tuned ultra-distance fell runners will attempt the 66-mile, 27,000 ft of ascent within the allotted 24 hours. Only one in three will succeed. To date approximately 2055 people have completed the single round in 24 hours. Nicky has set records on the Bob Graham Round in previous years. In 2016, on her 10th anniversary of overcoming breast cancer, the 49-year-0ld bested the record for the DOUBLE Bob Graham Round. This covers over 132 miles, 52,000' of ascent over 84 summits. She did this in an amazing 45-1/2 hours! Video about the Bob Graham Round with Salomon Running athlete Ricky Lightfoot Nicky Spinks article re. her Double Bob Graham.
