As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After months of deliberation and soul-searching Father and Son publish their last and final episode of The Middle School Mind podcast. After nearly 18 months and over 35+ episodes, on this episode: We say goodbye to our listeners We talk about what's next for Son We hear from some of our past guests Of course we get a little silly And we play one last game So sit back, relax, grab the Kleenex and stick around for our very special goodbye episode. We think kid's voices are under represented in the podcast space. Even though we are leaving, we encourage you to visit Kids Listen. This organization is a grassroots organization of advocates for high-quality audio content for children. The Middle School Mind is a proud member of Kids Listen and, with our show ending, we encourage kids and families to find other interesting and engaging podcasts for kids. Through this adventure, we connected with the creator of Sound Carrot. This website was founded by a father/daughter team with the goal to help younger listeners find amazing children's podcasts. We hope this resource helps parents and kids find other kid's voices that you want to listen to and hear more from. We also believe that kids can create their own podcasts! Last summer we launched a three-part series encouraging kids to make their own kids' podcasts. You can find the episodes here: 1.20 Make Your Own Kid Podcast 1 1.21 Make Your Own Kid Podcast 2 1.22 Make Your Own Kid Podcast 3 Thank you to The Middle School Mind listeners and even our future listeners. We enjoyed making these episodes together and sharing them with you. This time was special for us and we will look back at this show as an amazing point in time where we talked about what was on Son's mind or relevant pop culture during this time. If you loved listening to the show and want to connect with us, e-mail us at: middleschoolmind.podcast@gmail.com. We are happy to connect if you want to talk about creating your own podcast for your child or, potentially, if you are interested in having your middle schooler take over The Middle School Mind, let's chat. We always knew that The Middle School Mind was going to last at most, 3 years, with Son and I. But amazing shows like Star Trek had Star Trek: The Next Generation and Saved By The Bell had Saved By The Bell: The New Class introduced a new cast of characters while providing new stories and fresh perspectives. It would be amazing to have a Mother/Daughter voice leading the show or a parent/child from a different part of the country or even a completely different country! It's the unique perspectives that help us all learn and appreciate each other. Enjoy The Goodbye Episode and thank you for being part of our show. As Inc. Magazine reported, “Isaac Lidsky may possess the most eclectic resume in business. Over the years, he has been a child television star (he played series regular “Weasel” on NBC’s “Saved By The Bell: The New Class”), a Supreme Court clerk (for Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg), and the co-founder of an internet startup.” The full list of his accomplishments is far longer: Lidsky graduated from Harvard at 19 with an honors degree in mathematics and computer science. He then founded [x+1] with MediaMath’s Joe Zawadzki, which was later acquired for $230 million. Fascinated by the burgeoning field of “cyberlaw,” Lidsky left [x+1] and returned to Harvard to attend law school and graduated magna cum laude in 2004. As a U.S. Justice Department lawyer, Lidsky argued more than a dozen appeals in federal court on behalf of the United States and never lost a case. Along the way, he founded Hope For Vision, a nonprofit organization to fund the development of treatments for blinding diseases and within 5 years grew it to a dozen cities nationwide and more than $5 million. In 2011 Lidsky returned to his entrepreneurial roots. He purchased a small, struggling residential construction subcontractor and led the development of a proprietary suite of logistics and ERM software to transform it. His reinvented construction services company grew more than tenfold in its first five years, and today it boasts annual revenues in excess of $250 million. In 2016 Lidsky set out to share with others his empowering approach to living and leading, and he was promptly recognized as a visionary thought leader. His first book, Eyes Wide Open, hit the shelves as a New York Times best seller in March 2017. TED invited Lidsky to present a mainstage TED Talk at TEDSUMMIT 2016 in Banff, Canada, and it was viewed more than a million times in its first 20 days. Lidsky now consults and speaks to organizations around the world on issues including leadership, accountability and self-empowerment. In 2018 Lidsky returned to his adtech roots, founding Underscore CLT and taking the helm as its President. Lidsky is determined to lead the development of a new technology infrastructure for digital marketing, using blockchain and related technologies to mitigate the industry’s longstanding structural challenges and to deliver on its untapped promise. Perhaps most striking, Lidsky is only 39, and he is blind. Born with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare degenerative disease of the retina, from age 12 to 25 he slowly lost his sight. As his bio makes clear, however, neither his youth nor his blindness have limited him.Eyes Wide Open - http://www.lidsky.com/book/ Connect With Isaac  Website - www.lidsky.com Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/IsaacLidsky/ Instagram - @isaaclidsky Twitter - @isaaclidsky  Are you looking to find your purpose, navigate transition or fix your relationships, all with a powerful group of men from around the world? In this episode, Tim has a great conversation with an extraordinary man, husband, father, leader, businessman and author. Lidsky shares what he’s learned from going blind at a young age and how it is one of the best things that’s ever happened to him. OUR CONVERSATION: We are disabled with self-limiting assumptions we tell ourselves We all misperceive success and values We all have our blindness in our human condition We are creating the reality we are experiencing How we convince ourselves that the things we are thinking and doing are objective truths The world is full of examples of people who’ve overcome unspeakable circumstances and found meaning and joy in life Not taking control of writing your own narrative is a choice Positive habits Isaac has built into his life Having a real vigilance to separate out the difference between what you know, you think you know and what you need to figure out How we try to identify and cling to heroes and villains in the face of fear How fear shows up and fills in the blanks in your life with the most awful scenarios possible What fear did in his life when Isaac started losing his sight The importance of practicing your disciplines daily Every instance in our life can yield knowledge, wisdom, and strength The importance of quieting the noise and getting back to our strength Living your life with an open heart and open mind An open heart begins with being open and accessible to yourself first Own your emotions and the responsibility for your emotions The importance of introspection The power and ruthlessness of words Writing and how it is an invaluable tool How we speak to others like attorneys and listen like five-year-olds (THIS NEEDS TO BE FLIPPED) Confronting life’s challenges with initiative, humor, grace and an empowering new vision How effort without purpose is entropy How we have ultimate agency over every thought and action Isaac’s Uphill challenge that he had to overcome Three things Isaac is optimistic about over the next 12 months RESOURCES: Book: Eyes Wide Open by Isaac Lidsky Website: Lidsky.com Instagram: isaaclidsky Facebook: @IsaacLidsky LinkedIn: Isaac Lidsky Twitter: @isaaclidsky TedTalk: What reality are you creating for yourself? Isaac Lidsky is an entrepreneur, bestselling author, and coveted speaker. But that brief description doesn’t do justice to his remarkable resume. Lidsky was a child television star, appearing as series regular “Weasel” on NBC’s “Saved By The Bell: The New Class.” Lidsky left his acting career and went on to graduate from Harvard at 19 with an honors degree in mathematics and computer science. He returned to Harvard to study law and became the only blind person to clerk on the U.S. Supreme Court (for Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg). He later took charge of a struggling construction company and grew it tenfold. Lidsky was born with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare degenerative disease of the retina. From age 12 to 25, he slowly lost his sight. Using insights from his experiences, he authored the New York Times bestseller, Eyes Wide Open: Overcoming Obstacles and Recognizing Opportunities in a World That Can’t See Clearly. He founded a nonprofit organization to fund the development of treatments for blinding diseases and within five years grew it to a dozen cities nationwide. - Get your FREE copy of my e-book. According to Inc. Magazine, Isaac Lidsky has “the most eclectic resume in business.” He was a childhood actor, starring on Saved By The Bell: The New Class as "Weasel." He graduated from Harvard University with an honors degree in math and computer science when he was 19. Then, he founded an internet advertising technology business that has thrived to this day, before returning to Harvard for law school, graduating magna cum laude. As a Justice Department attorney, he argued cases in federal appellate courts on behalf of the United States and never lost a case. He was a Law Clerk to two U.S. Supreme Court Justices - Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Today, Isaac runs Florida's largest residential construction services company, ODC Construction. There's a lot more to the story: From age 12 to 25, Isaac slowly lost his sight to a blinding disease. Far from limiting him, his blindness turned out to be a blessing. The vision he gained is empowering and liberating. His main stage TED Talk was viewed more than a million times in its first 20 days, and his recently published book, Eyes Wide Open, is a New York Times best seller.  Perception is never a passive process to take in the objective truth of the reality around you. In every moment, you are making educated guesses to construct an internal, conceptual understanding of the world. You frequently mistake this conception for the genuine article. You take this for granted. Isaac Lidsky went from being a successful teenage actor on TV to losing his sight and learning to reassess every unconscious assumption he had about life as a result. Isaac contends that going blind the way that he did is one of the best things that ever could have happened to him, as he learned to see his life beyond the illusions of his mind that would have kept him a prisoner of bad luck and circumstance. As Isaac began to lose his sight gradually over the course of more than a decade, he gained uncommon insight into the layers of meaning his mind automatically added to his perception. As micro blind spots formed in his vision, his brain would do everything it could to immediately compensate for them, often with wildly inaccurate guesses (such as perceiving a urinal as a sink in a bathroom). The mind is always attempting to sort incoming stimuli into the categories it knows. When the old categories we carry are not adequate for new types of information, we run into conflict with reality. We cease to be able to communicate with each other. We make terrible choices about what to do with our lives because we cannot align our actions with what is real. As Isaac had to learn how to reinterpret his most fundamental perceptions of the world, he took less and less for granted about the way his mind worked. For that reason, he is thankful for the new outlook being blind gave him. Even in communicating with other people, there are so many signals we take for granted in the subtle realm. We may completely overlook body language, tone, etc., or rely on them too much and form faulty assumptions from what we think we perceive in the many nuances of how someone presents themselves. The easiest way to clarify the true meaning of communication is to break concepts down to their simplest possible terms (“explain like I’m five), or clearly outline the premises behind an evaluation. If a blind person were to enter a building having been told an inaccurate layout of its structure, his false impressions would conflict with his experience and make it impossible for him to get where he was trying to go. Instead, if he went in knowing nothing, he would be able to derive the truth of the situation through his own unbiased observation. The same is true with everything we ever do in life, as we are all blind and, yet, mostly unaware of our disability. We refuse to draw new categories when our blindness creates obstacles, and so we suffer without end.   Isaac Lidsky: www.lidsky.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Lidsky   Eyes Wide Open by Isaac Lidsky: https://www.amazon.com/Eyes-Wide-Open-Recognizing-Opportunities-ebook/dp/B01HCGYXZW/   Isaac Lidsky “What reality are you creating for yourself?” TED talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/isaac_lidsky_what_reality_are_you_creating_for_yourself   Travel As Transformation by Gregory Diehl: http://amzn.to/2fDzgkM   Man’s Search For Meaning by Victor Frankl: https://www.amazon.com/Mans-Search-Meaning-Viktor-Frankl-ebook/dp/B009U9S6FI/   Isaac Lidsky on The Doctors explaining his blindness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kezluf7I_5M   Isaac Lidsky playing Weasel Weasel on Saved By The Bell: The New Class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM13axKEkDY
