Gene Casey's Roots-Rock Music Captivating Fans on an Adventurous Journey. In this episode your host Steve Yusko get you acquainted with Gene Casey, the artist behind some fantasitc Alt-Country Music.  Gene  formed the Lone Sharks, “the house band of the Hamptons,” where bars were plentiful and audiences – both the local and the celebrated – were robust and loyal. Over the course of the next few decades Gene and the evolving line-up of Sharks “played – and tore up – every roadhouse, bar, and honky tonk from Manhattan to Montauk” (Bop Magazine), sharing the bill and backing legendary roots rock & roll acts as Wanda Jackson, the Band, Bo Diddley, Sleepy LaBeef, NRBQ, and the Ventures.Gene's original music met with great acclaim with local and international indie radio play. Several of his roots-drenched songs have been used in “A Prairie Home Companion” and on the soundtracks to television and feature films, including “Justified” and “Sons of Anarchy” ; the 2012 thriller “The Tall Man” starring Jessica Biel, the 2013 release “The Killing Season” starring Robert DeNiro, and Rob Reiner's “Being Charlie.”In 2014 Gene and the Lone Sharks were inducted into the Dan's Papers “Best of the Best” Hall of Fame, having been honored over 20 times.  received the Long Island Sound Award by the L.I. Music Hall of Fame, “for contributions to the Island's musical landscape.”2017 saw the release of “Guitar In The Rain” an album celebrating the roots of contemporary Americana with original songs that evoke the romantic sweep of 60s pop, classic C&W and the raw untamed spirit of early rock & roll.2020 brings “Free Country: Essential Recordings” a compilation of some of the best songs culled from 20 years of  work, as well as  a unique arrangement of the public domain standard, “Home on the Range” where all of Gene's influences and obsessions seem to converge.Connect with The Long Island Sound Podcast Intro/Outro song in this episode: “Fading out Fast” from Mike Nugent's album, Mike Nugent and the Blue Moon Band . 082  - Dave Pomeroy :: When You Stop Listening to Your Inner Voice, It’ll Stop talking   Dave Pomeroy is an American musician, known as a Nashville vocalist, songwriter, and producer, but is best known as a bassist. He has played electric and acoustic bass for many world renowned artists, both in the studio and in concert.   ****Listen to this episode and subscribe! www.richredmond.com/listen   The Rich Redmond Show is sponsored by The School of Rock Nashville and Franklin! https://locations.schoolofrock.com/nashville https://locations.schoolofrock.com/franklin   DAVE POMEROY Dave Pomeroy was born in Naples, Italy to an Air Force family in 1956. He fell in love with music shortly after birth and started playing the bass at the age of 10. He moved to Nashville in 1977, and after early gigs with Sleepy LaBeef, Billy Joe Shaver and Guy Clark, joined Don Williams' band. Dave toured and recorded with Williams for 14 years, which eventually led to a freelance career as a studio bassist and independent producer. He has played bass on more than 500 albums with artists like Elton John, Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, Trisha Yearwood, Earl Scruggs, Emmylou Harris and The Chieftains. Dave has performed live in concert and on television with many major artists such as Steve Winwood, John Fogerty, Willie Nelson, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Earl Klugh, and Dr. John. In 1997 Dave was voted ‘Bassist of the Year’ at the Nashville Music Awards. As a solo artist, bandleader, and producer, Dave has released 14 projects on his own label, Earwave. In 1999, he created and hosted the radio series “Nashville Unlimited," for Nashville Public Radio which featured "live in the studio” performances and interviews with a wide variety of Nashville's finest singers, songwriters, and musicians. He has continued that tradition with his annual “Nashville Unlimited Christmas” concert, CDs and radio broadcasts, all of which benefit Nashville’s “Room In the Inn” homeless program, for whom Dave has raised over $100,000 since 1992. A featured columnist for Bass Player Magazine since 1995, Dave has also contributed as a writer to various books about bass playing and the music business. He has had his songs recorded by Chet Atkins, Don Williams, and The Sweethearts of the Rodeo, whose new album he also produced. He remains active as a session player and still plays live gigs around Nashville and tours occasionally with Three Ring Circle, his “jazzgrass” instrumental trio with Rob Ickes (dobro) and Andy Leftwich (mandolin/fiddle). Dave was elected to a three-year term as President of the Nashville Musicians Association, AFM Local 257 in December 2008. He is also a board member of Leadership Music, The Academy of Country Music, Bass Player Magazine and The International Recording Musicians Association. In Dave's own words... "Nashville has the most fantastic creative community in the world and has enabled all my musical dreams to come true. This Train (is Bound for Glory) - Chords, Lyrics and OriginsOur version of this Classic African-American Spiritual features a New Orleans Style Piano, Ukelele, Muddy Waters style Delta Blues Dobro, Guitars, Drums, Swing Acoustic Bass, and FiddleOriginsFirst recorded in 1922 by the Florida Normal Industrial Institute Quartet, This Train (or 'This Train is Bound for Glory' or 'Dis Train' as it is sometimes known) is an African-American spiritual. The oddly-named Florida Normal Industrial Institute Quartet were an early African-American barber-shop act who sang the song a cappella. This Train was later made famous by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, who recorded it twice: initially, using an acoustic guitar, in the 1930s, and then again, using an electric guitar, in the 1950s. Her 1950s version is now seen as a precursor of Rock-n-Roll. It was also famously recorded as 'This Train is Bound for Glory' by Woody Guthrie. Guthrie's autobiographical novel, 'Bound for Glory' takes its title from the song.GThis train is bound for glory, this train.G DThis train is bound for glory, this train.GThis train is bound for glory,CNon gonna ride it but the righteous and the holy.G D GThis train is bound for glory, this train. This train don't carry no gamblers, this train; This train don't carry no gamblers, this train; This train don't carry no gamblers,No High Flyers, no midnight ramblers,This train is bound for glory, this train. This train don't carry no liars, this train; This train don't carry no liars, this train; This train don't carry no liars,No Hypocrites, compromiseers, and Truth DeniersThis train don't carry no liars, this train.© 2015 Shiloh Worship Music COPY FREELY;This Music is copyrighted to prevent misuse, however, permission is granted for non-commercial copying-Radio play permitted- www.shilohworshipmusic.comFrom Wikipedia:Early history:The earliest known example of "This Train" is a recording by Florida Normal and Industrial Institute Quartette from 1922, under the title "Dis Train."[3] Another one of the earliest recordings of the song is the version made by Wood's Blind Jubilee Singers in August 1925 under the title "This Train Is Bound for Glory". The next year the song found its way into print for the first time in the Lomaxes' American Folk Songs and Ballads anthology and was subsequently included in Alan Lomax's 1960 anthology, Folk Songs of North America.[2]In 1935, the first hillbilly recording of the song was released by Tennessee Ramblers as "Dis Train" in reference to the song's black roots.[2] Then in the late 1930s, after becoming the first black artist to sign with a major label, gospel singer and guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe recorded "This Train" as a hit for Decca. Her later version of the song, released by Decca in the early 1950s, featured Tharpe on electric guitar and is cited as one of several examples of her work that led to the emergence of rock 'n roll.Other recordingsOver the years, "This Train" has been covered by artists specializing in numerous genres, including blues, folk, bluegrass, gospel, rock, post-punk, jazz, reggae, and zydeco. Among the solo artists and groups who have recorded it are Louis Armstrong, Big Bill Broonzy, Brothers Four, Hylo Brown, Alice Coltrane, Delmore Brothers, Sandy Denny, D.O.A., Lonnie Donegan, Jimmy Durante, Snooks Eaglin, Bob Gibson, Joe Glazer, John Hammond, Jr., Cisco Houston, Janis Ian, Mahalia Jackson, Ella Jenkins, Sleepy LaBeef, The Limeliters, Trini Lopez, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Ziggy Marley, Ricky Nelson, Peter, Paul & Mary, Utah Phillips, Pete Seeger, The Seekers, Roberta Sherwood, Hank Snow, David Soul, Staples Singers, Billy Strange, the Tarriers, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Hank Thompson, Sublime, Randy Travis, The Verlaines, Bunny Wailer, Nina Hagen, Girls at Our Best!, Buckwheat Zydeco and Jools Holland.[2][4]”Come and check out our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ShilohWorshipGroup/videos  Free Christian Worship Music on the iTunes StorePlease check out our free Christian Worship Music on the iTunes Store.
