Meg hadn't realised how her drinking at social events to ease her anxiety, was going to eventually turn into a secretive habit. In a heartfelt conversation, Meg opens up about how her drinking evolved into a coping mechanism for social anxiety. What started as a way to ease into social situations gradually became a reliance on alcohol for solitude, revealing the often-hidden story of concealed drinking. Her journey sheds light on the slippery slope into isolation and dependency, addressing both the physical and mental challenges of managing a trembling condition in the public eye. This episode also celebrates her sobriety journey and highlights the transformative process of rediscovery. After two years of living alcohol-free, Meg credits Annie Grace for guiding her through layers of shame toward self-trust. For those who relate to her experiences, she offers hope and emphasises the availability of resources to support an alcohol free life. It's an honest exploration of the journey to recovery, aiming to connect with and empower those seeking to break free from addiction and reclaim their true selves. "Apart from that I love it, and in a lot of ways it was the first album that I fell in love with without influence from my family, it also feels weirdly “too close” in the current political climate. John Colapinto of Rolling Stone wrote about the album that it "gives voice to the disenfranchised suburban underclass of Americans who feel wholly unrepresented by the current leadership of oilmen and Ivy Leaguers, and who are too smart to accept the "reality" presented by news media who sell the government's line of fear and warmongering." And If that's not the world we are living in now…It was an album that changed me as a person, a freshman in high school in a lot of ways discovering who I was for the first time, this album became my anthem for a time and was the soundtrack behind a new version of myself and my departure from youth." -Abby Thank you so much for listening to this episode of the Album Files! Over the past few weeks, our episodes have ignited debates, sparked objections, and received acknowledgment. Today's episode is all about engaging with you, to address some of the intriguing questions that have surfaced. In a recent episode, Sam discussed powerful tips for upgrading your life in 2024 and shed light on the secrets to living to 100, emphasising the significance of socialising. While many embraced the idea, some introverts expressed a preference for solitude. Sam, donning his metaphorical lawyer hat, delves into the importance of social connections and aims to convince even the most reserved listeners of the merits of socialising. Sam's eight-area framework explores fundamental human needs, with the Tree of Friendship representing the primal instinct for belonging. Sam addresses objections from introverts, highlighting research that emphasises the health benefits of regular socialising. He emphasises the need for introverts to find a balance by adjusting the duration and intensity of social interactions to suit their preferences. Sam also tackles a question about dealing with toxic family members. He advocates setting boundaries to prioritise your health and happiness, stressing the importance of the relationship you have with yourself as the foundation for a fulfilling life. The episode further explores the challenge of sticking to New Year's resolutions. Sam provides insights into the psychology of goal-setting, emphasising the need for goals that truly inspire and the importance of daily rituals and systems for maintaining motivation. To keep the conversation going, please reach out with questions, comments, or objections.

The research, carried out by the Department of Agriculture, University of Limerick and National Health Intelligence Unit, found that over 80% of those requiring hospital treatment were emergency admissions. In this week's episode, I reminisce on my teenage years where I spent a lot of time at school and on the bus, looking forward to the next disco. I analyze the behavior that was considered the norm during this time and the challenges of learning to socialise in anti-social environments. I also touch on how being in anti-social settings can impact our ability to socialize as adults and heighten our insecurities.
Alcohol is never my thing as you know many people who drink to socialise don't usually drink in there own . I asked myself do we really enjoy alcohol or we just want to fit in society when we at a party or just chilling with friends at the bbq. The more I think about it the more I see it as some form of addiction and an inability to say no to alcohol in front of people , we worry of not being cool and drunk . From now I've decided to stop totally and just enjoy myself without any alcohol in my body . Im someone out there can relate to this . --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/phonchrist/message
In this episode we discuss the socialisation period, what it is and what it isn't, what to do and what not to do. J.P Scott and Fuller conducted extensive research in over a period of 14 years on generations of 6 breeds of dog; Basenjis, Beagles, Cocker Spaniels, Shetland Sheepdogs and Fox Terriers and their crossbreeds. J.P. Scott & Fuller were the first to discover what they termed as the critical period for socialisation in 1957. Now more commonly referred to as the sensitive period for socialisation; the knowledge that Scott and Fuller gave the world is that all puppies have a well-defined neonatal, a transitional and a critical (or sensitive) period, and what happens to them during these periods shapes what kinds of dogs they grow up to be. A more recent study in 2015 by Mary Morrow et al., looked at a total of 98 purebred puppies representing 3 breeds, namely Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Yorkshire terriers, and German shepherds. The results of this study support the hypothesis that emotional and behavioural development, as well as the onset of fear-related avoidance behaviour, varies among breeds of domestic dogs. On this episode of Scouting for Growth, Sabine VdL talks to Dylan Bourguignon, CEO of SO-SURE. He is on a mission to restore customer trust in insurance He has set up his digital insurance platform with a unique model that delivers win-win insurance. In this conversation, the pair discuss Dylan's journey setting up SO-SURE, why he moved into insurance, and how useful sales strategies and skills have been to scale the business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Having been an engineer twice over, I went into strategy consulting and then private equity for 10 years, and acquired an MBA on the way. In the latter part of my time in private equity, I was focused on insurance and I got to understand the entire value chain of insurance and how there was a chasm between the consumer experience of insurance and the margins the industry was making. As an investor, I was looking for businesses that were addressing the issue, sadly there weren't any so I decided to do it myself. Whenever you try to change the equation for consumers, if you just try to focus on a single element that matters to them, whether it's distribution, policy admin, or claims, as individual segments of the value chain, you're only optimizing a sub-optimal point. If you really want to have a step change in customer experience, you really have to take control of the entirety of the value chain and redesign it. That's what we've done. Our platform does deliver a risk pooling model, it delivers a network model. Think about it as Mutual 3.0 (the next stage of a John Lewis Partnership model.) The idea is that I buy a policy, I'm covered, I can then connect to my friends and family who I trust, and every time I connect to them, I and my friends each get £10 added to each of our reward pots. We can all connect to as many people as we want until my reward pot is worth 80% of the value of my premium. At the end of the year, if I and my friends have not claimed, the money in my pot is paid out to me. My pot is not dependent on my friends' connections, only with those networks of people I connect directly with. Embedded insurance is a bit like "the emperor's new clothes." I feel that it is just like dressing up something that's been around for a long time. "Dixons" was selling insurance with laptops in the 90s already. The only difference is now the ability to make it part of the consumer experience when you purchase a product, as distribution partners you can also build a better understanding of their customers and you can use some of that information to provide a more relevant and bespoke solution for the customers in terms of the insurance. There are all sorts of charges that the industry needs to be mindful of. Think about the issue of over-insurance. If you insure for loss/ theft/ damage for every single item that you own – a couch for example – is that not covered by your home and content insurance already? The solution that we're creating for consumers needs to be relevant and we also need to be delivering through an impeccable moment of truth -- a superb claim experience -- that needs to be as seamless as the purchase itself. BEST MOMENTS ‘For us at SO-SURE, we needed to gain control of the customer experience from purchase to claim. What you quickly realize is that there's no way of fundamentally changing the paradigm for consumers unless you have control over the entire value chain – policy admin, claims, distribution.'‘Consumers don't trust the promise that when things go wrong their back is going to be covered. Unfortunately, this is broken. Nobody has the consumer's best interest at the heart of what they are doing. We've addressed all those issues in our redesign of the consumer experience. It's so critical to focus on what the customer's experience is going to be when they claim and how it can be a good experience.'‘Win-win means amazing if you need us. Our insurance products are incredibly competitive, up to 40% cheaper than our competition, it's very clear and written for consumers, and when you claim we fulfill the claims within 24-72 hours, 10 times faster than the competition. If you do not claim you get rewards (95% of people don't claim on insurance.) If so you can get up to 80% of your money back if you and your friends in your pool don't claim. What's not to love?'‘Be yourself and don't stop believing.' ABOUT THE GUEST Dylan Bourguignon is on a mission to restore consumer trust in insurance. Recently a major outage took nearly a third of Canada offline. No phone, no internet… even access to 911 got shut down in some places. Recently a major outage took nearly a third of Canada offline. No phone, no internet… even access to 911 got shut down in some places. So why does one company get so much control over a vital service… the internet? This is the story in the USA as well as Canada, so at Darts and Letters we wanted to look for a different way. We also don't necessarily believe the market is the solution… so what is? How do we make a more democratic, socially driven internet? Gordon Katic interviews Ben Tarnoff, author of Internet for the People, to help us answer these questions - and most importantly, we ask whether the internet is indeed a series of tubes. —————————-SUPPORT THE SHOW—————————- You can support the show for free by following or subscribing on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or whichever app you use. Day 29 April Intentional Healing 1. Being in the moment or the power of now! Focusing on what is in front of you This is a Stoic concept. However, the Stoics had different tools which worked together to improve presence. We also require the best approach and tools. Without tools and an understanding of what it means to be present, we can bypass emotions. Being present requires practice of self-parenting foremost, and then once proficient, it becomes easier to manage ourselves and come back to the now. Self-parenting is being present. Ways we practice a quick return to presence or mindfulness Observing thoughts and reframing Boundaries Less complaining more parenting. More forgiveness and more presence. More letting go and more feeling. SIFTSEM Marcus Aurelius said, "Do not be anxious. Nature controls it all. Soon you will be no more! " 2. This month was building up to this day. This was my birthday gift to you! Day 28 April Intentional Healing When you are triggered, it can mainly be due to different perspective. Whether it comes in the form of a behaviour, a thought or an attitude, that is where you feel negative emotion. When you parent yourself, looking into your thoughts and root cause. Then consider what you would like to hear, to see and do that for yourself. Whether you triggers originate in childhood, look into what you would have wanted done differently, and do it for yourself. Speak to your inner child and repeat those words. Take that action for the sake of your inner child. Adjust your mindset for the sake of your inner child. 2. Daily Evaluation Ask yourself these questions What have you done differently today? What creativity have you explored? Who inspired you today? How did you love yourself with five love languages today? What can you do differently tomorrow? 3. Grounding activity today Journaling is very grounding. However, your journaling benefits from including emotional healing. Perhaps start with a SIFTSEM, then sit down and start journaling. Once you have parented yourself, focus more on reframing your thoughts and creating fit for purpose solutions. To anyone new Start self-care with SIFTSEM. Camp Cope - "Running With the Hurricane" from the 2022 album Running with the Hurricane on Run For Cover. Melbourne, Australia-based trio Camp Cope find the calm within the storm on their latest full-length Running with the Hurricane. While their 2018 album How to Socialise & Make Friends channeled the intensity of '90s artists like Alanis Morissette or Courtney Love, the new LP takes a quieter approach. During the pandemic, guitarist/vocalist Georgia Maq returned to her post-rock world of nursing. Her work in COVID-19 testing and vaccine administration had an impact on her songwriting. As she explained to NPR, "Before when we'd made records, it was just like, 'Let's just record us live so that when people see us live, they won't be disappointed.' This was more like, 'Well, we're all gonna die of coronavirus, so let's just try to make something quite beautiful.'" Matt Pink, how to socialise without alcohol and LOVE IT!Matt Pink aka Better_Life_Guy is making waves in the alcohol-free space. His social media is inspiring tons of alcohol-free adventures and the sober curious to have fun, be social and love their AF adventure. What I love about Matt's story is that he trained with me in the early stages of his AF journey and is now out there inspiring many others to do the same. On a personal note - this is my major focus - trying to inspire more people to get out there and inspire others! To take his development to the next level, Matt will also train with me again to become an accredited coach to add a world-class qualification and even more credibility to what he is doing in the alcohol-free space.I am super proud of what he has achieved and will always be a massive supporter. On September the 18th, Matt is hosting, in his words, ‘The first-ever no-booze cruise up the Thames in London.” Since the time of recording this event has sold out many times over.I will be joining Matt on the 18th throwing some shapes, well maybe not, and having a great time without any booze in sight! You will love this chat about sober socialising with Matt and why we believe when you stop drinking your social life gets even better!Alright let's do this!
‘Socialise. Go to fashion events, fashion parties, try to talk to as many people as possible. Fashion weeks are always a good moment,' Photographer / Creative Director Eva Losada tells Writer / Editor / Broadcaster Lara Johnson-Wheeler. While she wouldn't refer to herself as a stylist, Eva Losada, also known as Eva Al Desnudo, has a distinctive style that has certainly shaped her career. Having started out in the industry as a street style photographer, Eva was snapped in her signature dark lip and stand-out selection of clothes as often as she herself was snapping. She now covers the global fashion weeks, working backstage at brands such as Dior, Raf Simons, Undercover and more. A regular contributor at Highsnobiety, Eva has been nominated within the British Fashion Awards' New Wave: Creatives category twice. In this episode, she talks to Lara about her aesthetic, meditation in the face of rejection and building a fashion community.
