Hello to you listening in Pasadena, California! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. I've been binge-watching The Big Bang Theory TV series as I do this time each year to humor me through our Pacific Northwest November to May Rain Festival. As you might know a consistent theme is the characters' devotion to comics and superheroes. Why? The characters are highly intelligent, socially awkward nerds who have difficulty navigating society whereas the superheroes possess save-the-day abilities, rare powers, and bravery. Comics can be a safe place to fantasize living idealized versions of themselves as the nerd-turned-hero. But what do the Superheroes have to say about living life as a Superhero? Following are 7 quotes: 1. “When you decide not to be afraid you can find friends in super unexpected places.” — Ms. Marvel 2. “Everybody's story begins “once upon a time,” and it's up to us to cherish the time we're given to ensure we live happily ever after.” — Scarlet Witch 3. “I have no idea where I'm going to be tomorrow but I accept the fact that tomorrow will come and I'm going to rise to meet it.” — Donna Troy 4. “The fate of your planet rests not in the hands of gods. It rests in the hands of mortals.” — Thor 5. “The future is worth it. All the pain. All the tears. The future is worth the fight.” — Martian Manhunter 6. “The door is more than it appears. It separates who you are from who you can be. You do not have to walk through it… You can run.” — Franklin Richards 7. “A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple as putting a coat around a little boy's shoulders to let him know the world hasn't ended.” — Batman Story Prompt: For a long time your character has felt that she is more than she appears to be but does not believe she has what it takes to show up fully in her power until one day a door appears in a wall and she .... write that story and share it out loud! This weeks podcast chat is with hugely inspiring (award winning) Musical Comedian Emer Maguire who discusses how many barriers and challenges she's had to overcome to carve out her career. She sheds some light on what life is like with these 'labels' (for want of a better word) and how she's carved out her successful career in a way that feels authentic to her. I LOVE how real Emer is and in her own words she can't be anything else. Do you ever feel like who you are is holding you back? Can you really change your personality — or are you stuck with it for life? Today, Jay sits down with award-winning journalist and author Olga Khazan, whose groundbreaking book Me But Better explores the science of personality change. As a staff writer at The Atlantic, Olga has spent years investigating what shapes who we are — and whether it’s possible to become more confident, resilient, and fulfilled by intentionally shifting our traits. Jay and Olga explore the surprising research showing that personality isn’t fixed — and that with consistent effort, anyone can become a different version of themselves. Olga shares how she transformed traits like anxiety and self-doubt by applying science-backed tools and testing them in her own life. They dive deep into how habits shape identity, why a strong “why” is essential for lasting change, and how the traits we envy in others might point us toward who we’re meant to become. They also unpack the difference between being “authentic” and being stuck — and why growth often looks like discomfort before it feels natural. In this episode, you’ll learn: How to Change Personality Traits You’ve Had for Years How to Shift from Anxiety to Emotional Balance How to Use Habits to Redefine Who You Are How to Identify the Traits That Align with Your Goals How to Stop People-Pleasing Without Becoming Cold How to Make Growth Feel Authentic — Not Fake True change doesn’t come from pretending to be someone else — it comes from becoming the person you were always capable of being. This episode is a powerful reminder that you’re not stuck. With intention, action, and the right mindset, you can grow into someone new. Description: In this new podcast, Dr. Jordan describes how technology and social media have caused teenagers and young adults to feel so socially awkward today. When it comes to creating close connections, girls have evolved from being scuba divers to jet skiers. They used to have in depth conversations/connection (scuba divers) to now have very little connection and racing along alone (jet skiers). Remember when eye contact, please-and-thank-you, and real conversations were just... normal? These days, it feels like we're raising kids in a world that's slowly forgetting how to be human. We see it everywhere—from the cashier who barely looks up, to parents missing “watch me!” moments at the playground because they're glued to their phones. It's not just about manners—it's about teaching our kids how to truly connect. The good news? It doesn't take much to turn the tide. Let your kid order their own food. Chat with “safe strangers.” Put the phones down at dinner and just talk. These little things? They add up. And they make a big difference. If you're ready to raise kids who can look people in the eye and hold their own in a conversation, you're not alone. Let's build a generation that knows the power of putting the phone down and showing up—for real.Episode Highlights: Culture shifts in the world.Raising respectful kids.We should talk more.Look up!Links Mentioned in Episode/Find More on A Force to Be Reckoned With:Jointheforce.usFollow Bethany on Instagram @bethanyadkinsFollow Corey on Instagram @mrcoreyadkinsFind us on Youtube!Email Bethany at bethany@adkinsmedia.co This show has been produced by Adkins Media Co.
Ireland's newest media brand, Onic, has launched with a commitment to re-shaping the future of the audio and digital landscape in Ireland. Onic, formerly Wireless Ireland, is home to some of Ireland's best-loved radio stations: Dublin's FM104 and Q102, Cork's 96FM and C103, Live 95 in Limerick, LMFM and U105 in Belfast. The group's representative sales house, urbanmedia, will also become Onic. In a significant move, Onic also confirmed the launch of 10 new services on the much anticipated DAB+ trial across the broader Leinster area, a suite of new digital streams, an expansion of talkSPORT Ireland and newly refreshed websites. Onic has also invested heavily in visualised studios and is delighted to announce new POD and VOD offerings under the Onic Originals banner. In the coming months the group will launch the Onic App and Player, a space where it will bring all the group's live audio, podcast and visualised content together in a single destination. This new brand reflects the organisation's strategy to strengthen connections with audiences, partners and communities. With its extensive network, Onic enables brands to deliver their messages effectively, reaching diverse demographics across multiple regions - both nationally and internationally. This enhanced accessibility maximises campaign impact, creating deeper connections between brands and their audiences. Highlights from the Onic announcement include A suite of DAB+ and digital services delivering expanded consumer choice, and complementary audiences to our existing brands. These will target audiences in niche formats including Rock, Kids, Country and RnB amongst others. The expansion of talkSPORT Ireland, having secured exclusive Premier League football rights on Saturdays for the next four seasons, alongside the launch of a number of digital products. These include MNÁsplaining, a female sports focused show hosted by social media star Kayleigh Trappe, and the Beyond The 45 and 65 a GAA series featuring GAA icons Owen Mulligan, Lee Keegan and John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer amongst others. Onic Originals will include new podcasts later in the year hosted by established Onic talent including Kathryn Thomas from Dublin's Q102 and Thomas 'Crossy' Crosse from FM104. In addition to established talent, Socially Awkward will be hosted by some of Ireland's sharpest young voices - Brandon Caufield, Shanice Griffin and Daniel Devlin and On The Kase, led by the charismatic Kasey Campion. All are shining examples of emerging talent that will appeal to younger audiences. A roadmap of consumer products, including aggregator App and Player to enhance the user experience and deliver even more choice for our audiences. A new range of cross-platform marketing and advertising opportunities for our commercial partners as we weave our new digital products into our existing radio stations to deliver national reach. Sean Barry, Managing Director of Onic, said: "Onic will be a beacon for authenticity and trusted quality content. Every day our audiences welcome us into their lives and allow us to share their day. Individually and collectively, at home or on the go, we are their trusted companion, connecting in a deep and meaningful way. We never take this for granted. Onic is a new force in Irish media, building on a brilliant heritage, setting the standard for audio and video content in the years to come. We are excited to bring together a raft of authentic and talented voices, accelerating progressive innovation and driving engagement and connection across our audiences." Brian McCarthy, Group Commercial and Operations Director, added: "We have always strived to connect our advertisers with our audience in a meaningful way, and the launch of Onic gives us even more touch points to create dynamic, effective marketing solutions for our clients. Our enhanced product range will deliver new audiences and provide advertisers with opportunities to showcase their brands in a trusted and progressive environ...

Can the traits that make you feel socially awkward actually be the key to unlocking extraordinary success? We've all experienced a time when we felt like an outsider looking in. But for some, this isn't a rare occurrence, but a constant struggle. In fact, research shows 10 – 15% of the population is socially awkward. But there is a strong correlation between social awkwardness and giftedness. You just have to learn how to use it to your advantage. I'm excited to welcome Ty Tashiro to the show today. Ty is a psychologist and interpersonal relationship expert. He's spent decades researching human intelligence, neuroscience, personality, and sociology to help us better understand this widely shared trait. He's also the author of Awkward: The Science of Why We're Socially Awkward and Why That's Awesome. There are few things more psychologically devastating than social exclusion. But being awkward can be like speaking a second language. By taking the same focus and persistence that you naturally give to things you love and applying it to your social life, you can figure out how to fit in without losing yourself. Listen in as Ty shares how you can turn your unique quirks into your greatest superpower and never grapple over an awkward social interaction again. Vinny Fasline | The Isaac Abrams Show 135Comedian Vinny Fasline joins me this week in stufio to riff on all kinds of silly subjects. We do a little "would you Rather" and end like we always do, with "whats the best meal you've ever had' - this answer may suprise you. Vinny and I have been on the road touring with headliner Drew Lynch, and we've gotten to know each other pretty well now. Vinny is a very talented and funny comedian and a helluva a guy. I had a great time getting to know Vinny better outside of tour - since this episode was recorded we shot a sketch together and played 3 theaters in GA. I really hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do. Thanks for watching and listening and as always "LOOK OUT FOR SNAKES"Here is Vinny's bio from his website:After being diagnosed with a brain tumor and having surgery in 2000, Vinny found an outlet for his experiences through stand up. He then became the face for Gilda's Club in Pittsburgh, an organization started by Steve Martin and Gene Wilder for comedy legend Gilda Radner helping people dealing with cancer, their families and friends. Vinny quickly became a regular at the Pittsburgh Improv, and soon there after, moved to Los Angeles. In 2013 he started the live stand up comedy show “Socially Awkward” that is now featured every month at the famous Hollywood Improv Comedy Club and The Comedy Store.Check us out on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/TheIsaacAbramsshowFollow Isaac on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/theisaacabramsPhotography : https://www.flickr.com/photos/isaacheckert/albumsTik Tok : https://www.tiktok.com/@theisaacabramsFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/IsaacAbramsShow
Awkwardness gets a bad rap, but the trait is often an indicator that someone is extraordinary. Psychologist and author Ty Tashiro has spent a great deal of time studying (and living!) social awkwardness. He's fascinated by how the same traits that cause us social embarrassment can also drive exceptional accomplishment. As a fellow awkward person myself, I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Ty about the advantages of being awkward, what the socially fluent can learn from awkward people, and the best way to navigate conversations in loud clubs. This...is A Bit of Optimism. In hour 1 of The Annie Frey Show, Annie and the crew discuss Hunter Biden crashing a House Contempt hearing. Annie is then joined by General Keith Kellogg, a Retired Lieutenant General, a former National Security Advisor to the Trump Administration. Kellogg shares his frustration with Washington and their willingness to point out issues but not find solutions. He discusses the government's approach of the Israel/Hamas War as well. They wrap up the hour with Wiggins America where they discuss how to handle socially awkward situations according to a Harvard expert.
