Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 30th August. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. GM CHEVY BOLT EV BATTERY FIX COULD BRING MORE RANGE - Owners of 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV models have had to contend with a reduced driving range for many months, as GM attempted to find a remedy for a battery related fire issue that culminated with a plan to replace all battery modules. - Now GM has confirmed that it's stepping up by offering a significant range boost for those earlier Bolt EVs.  In a communication to some owners sent over the weekend—spotted by friends of Green Car Reports—the automaker emphasized that the all-new lithium-ion battery modules installed in older Bolt EVs will offer “GM's most advanced Bolt chemistry.” - Their pending 8-percent boost in battery capacity is described as “resulting in a range improvement in equivalent driving conditions,” and includes a new 8-year/100,000-mile limited parts warranty covering the battery after the module replacement. - Think of it this way: It's not unusual to see 10 percent battery degradation after a few years of EV ownership. Now for the inconvenience, any range drop will be erased, and they'll likely be getting more range than the cars did when new. For a company that's depending on the reputation of its upcoming Ultium EVs for a decade of growth, that sounds like a smart move. At the Chengdu Motor Show, the firm showed off an 82.5KWh capacity power pack inside a vehicle from Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors. Under normal temperatures, SVOLT says its battery can deliver approximately 373 miles of range on a single charge and allow a car to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in under five seconds. Original Source : https://www.engadget.com/svolt-colbalt-free-battery-scale-production-234534595.html SVOLT UNVEILS COBALT-FREE BATTERY, CLAIMING FIRST COMPANY TO REACH 'SERIES PRODUCTION' - The company currently employs nearly 3,000 people worldwide, half of whom work in research and development (R&D). In fact, SVOLT has shared that over the past several years, it has dedicated 1,200 R&D personnel to cobalt-free batteries alone. - According to a press release from SVOLT, the manufacturer unveiled what it calls “the world's first cobalt-free battery pack to reach series production.” - However, while SVOLT should be recognized for bringing its EV pack to production, it's tough to justify its claim as the first. For example, Tesla removed cobalt from its lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries last year for the Standard Range Model 3 in China alongside CATL. Panasonic was also developing similar techniques alongside Tesla earlier this year. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/08/30/svolt-unveils-cobalt-free-battery-claiming-first-company-to-reach-series-production/ ANOTHER TESLA REPORTEDLY USING AUTOPILOT HITS A PARKED POLICE CAR - Another Tesla has hit an emergency vehicle, apparently while using the Autopilot driver-assist feature, adding to a problem that is already the subject of a federal safety probe. - The Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident just before 5 in the morning Saturday along Interstate 4 in Orlando. No one was seriously injured in the crash, though the Tesla did narrowly miss hitting a state trooper as he left his car to assist another driver who had broken down on the highway. - "The driver stated that [the Tesla] was in Autopilot mode," said the report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Original Source : https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/30/business/tesla-crash-police-car/index.html THE PLYBERTRUCK IS A TESLA CYBERTRUCK REPLICA MADE WITH WOODEN PANELS - since its unveiling in 2019, the tesla cybertruck has racked up a lot of interest with creatives around the world continuously dreaming up new iterations of the vehicle. with production pushed to 2022, the longing to have one has increased significantly among fans, inciting them to create their own version of the long-awaited truck. such is the case of the plybertruck, a cybertruck replica that ditches the car's stainless steel body and replaces it with wood. - the plybertruck by CJ cromwell was created to participate in the gambler 500 rally - under the plybertruck's wooden body there's a first-generation acura MDX, as reported by carscoops. ‘so while it's obviously not electric like the real cybertruck, we have no doubt that it met the $500 purchase cost cap,' Original Source : https://www.designboom.com/technology/plybertruck-cybertruck-wooden-panels-08-30-2021/ BIPARTISAN TEXAS LAW SMOOTHS THE PATH TOWARD A MORE VIBRANT EV MARKET - On September 1, a bill that helps businesses build a better, brighter future for electric vehicles in Texas will become state law. - SB 1202, makes it possible for companies or individuals that own or operate equipment used solely for electric vehicle charging services to avoid being regulated as electric utilities or electric retail providers. - Electric vehicle charging stations are different. EV owners are not reliant on any particular stand-alone charging station; they use any given charging station and have no further relationship with it after they depart. Any regulatory framework for charging stations should be tailored to what Texas regulators and drivers want from the nascent charging marketplace. - The new law will help ease Texas EV owners' worries about long distance travel — one of the most common barriers to EV ownership. Without the possibility of utility-style regulation, EV charging companies can now develop charging stations more quickly and extensively. This way, a vehicle can obtain information about its surroundings and feed the driver with warnings to slow down if, for example, they entered a school zone. - Audi worked with Qualcomm, a wireless technology company, and Commsignia, a software systems provider, to test C-V2X tech in a 2021 Audi e-tron Sportback. VW Group's strategy to bring down the cost of electric vehicles involves developing common platforms to underpin models across its many brands to conserve costs. - Since these architectures will be used all over the world, "the potential to put an Audi car, production-wise, into the U.S. is even higher than now," Duesmann said Friday on Bloomberg Television. "The likelihood of us producing in the U.S. is there." - Last month, CEO Herbert Diess told Bloomberg TV that the company will decide this quarter on building more electric models in the country. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   GENERAL MOTORS TO ENGINEER, PRODUCE AND SUPPLY PARTS FOR NIKOLA BADGER Nikola Corporation (NASDAQ: NKLA) and General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) today announced a strategic partnership that begins with the Nikola Badger and carries cost reductions through Nikola’s programs, including: Nikola Badger, Nikola Tre, Nikola One, Nikola Two and NZT. As part of the agreement, Nikola will utilize General Motors’ Ultium battery system and Hydrotec fuel cell technology, representing a key commercialization milestone for General Motors. General Motors will engineer, homologate, validate and manufacture the Nikola Badger battery electric and fuel cell versions. The agreement with Nikola extends General Motors’ utilization of its fuel cell technology to the Class 7/8 semi-truck market and represents a high-volume commercialization of its leading Hydrotec fuel cell system and complements the company’s battery-electric propulsion. Fuel cells will become increasingly important to the semi-truck market because they are more efficient than gas or diesel. General Motors sees additional growth opportunities in multiple transportation, stationary and mobile-power end markets. General Motors’ battery development work is ongoing. Its Ultium battery technology roadmap includes silicon anodes and lithium metal anodes, which will improve vehicle range, affordability, and reduced dependence on rare and costly metals. It is already demonstrating automotive-grade durability and significantly higher energy density. Nikola will be responsible for the sales and marketing for the Badger and will retain the Nikola Badger brand.   General Motors to receive $2 billion equity stake in Nikola in exchange for certain in-kind contributions General Motors to engineer, validate, homologate and build the Nikola Badger for both the battery electric vehicle and fuel cell electric vehicle variants as part of the in-kind services Nikola anticipates saving over $4 billion in battery and powertrain costs over 10 years and over $1 billion in engineering and validation costs General Motors expects to receive in excess of $4 billion of benefits between the equity value of the shares, contract manufacturing of the Badger, supply contracts for batteries and fuel cells, and EV credits retained over the life of the contract General Motors to be exclusive supplier of fuel cells globally (outside of Europe) to Nikola for Class 7/8 trucks, providing validation and scale in a multi-billion dollar total addressable market Badger is anticipated to enter production by year-end 2022   https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/home.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2020/sep/0908-gen2fcs.html   TESLA QUICKLY COMPLETES $5 BILLION STOCK SALE "A week ago, Tesla announced it would sell $5 billion worth of stock at market prices "from time to time." Tuesday it announced it had completed that sale as of Friday." says CNN BUsiness: "The exact number of shares sold, and thus the average price of each sale, was not disclosed. Tesla shares have fallen sharply in the recent sell-off of tech stocks. Shares reached a split-adjusted record high close of $498.32 on August 31, but have lost 16% of their value since then through Friday's close. And shares were down another 11% in pre-market trading even before the Tuesday's filing."   As of recording, Tesla was down 21% to $330.71   https://edition.cnn.com/2020/09/08/business/tesla-stock-sale/index.html   TESLA MODEL 3 SALES IN CHINA SPIKE 7% IN AUGUST "Tesla Model 3 sales in China spiked 7% in August compared to July. Tesla’s most affordable all-electric sedan sold 11,811 units last month, compared to 11,014 vehicles in July." reports Teslarati: "Tesla’s sale of the Model 3 has significantly contributed to the electric vehicle market in China. According to the EV Sales Blog, Tesla’s sales figures through July accounted for more than 13% of the total Chinese EV market share. According to the Wall Street Journal, new-energy vehicle sales have surged 43.7% in August compared to the same month in 2019. Tesla has sold nearly 71,000 Model 3 sedans in China in 2020, making it the most popular EV in the country by a considerable margin. Tesla has taken advantage of the government subsidies that are offered by adjusting the prices of its Standard Range+ Model 3."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-china-sales-august-2020/   VW CEO HERBERT DIESS TEST DRIVES THE TESLA MODEL Y "You've likely already heard that Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess during a recent trip to Germany. We learned rather quickly that Musk got to test drive the all-electric VW ID.3 on the airport runway. He also got to check out the upcoming ID.4." says InsideEVs: "Diess shared that he also got to drive the Tesla Model Y, which he calls a reference for Volkswagen in many ways.  Diess went on to say that the Model Y, much like the ID.3, has a major advantage since it's built as an EV from the ground up. Unlike other automakers, Tesla and VW aren't building electric vehicles on an ICE platform, though VW did in the past. Diess says other automakers won't be able to produce the best EVs if they continue to rely on gas-car platforms."   https://www.linkedin.com/posts/herbertdiess_we-are-ready-for-take-off-activity-6708652868141907968-QIIh/   VW CONFIRMS ID.4 TOWING CAPACITY, SHOWS UTILITY PERFORMANCE IN NEW VIDEO "VW has confirmed the upcoming ID.4 electric SUV’s towing capacity in a new video showing the utility performance of the vehicle. Over the last month, VW has been hyping the launch of the ID.4 electric SUV by gradually releasing more information about the vehicle. Most recently, we got our first look at the ID.4’s interior and VW started production in Germany." says electrek: "Now the German automaker is out with a new video of the ID.4 electric SUV showcasing its utility capacity with different maneuvers — including towing a trailer. The automaker confirmed that the electric SUV is going to have a towing capacity of up to 1,900 kg (4,200 lbs), which is reasonable for an SUV of this size."   https://electrek.co/2020/09/07/vw-id4-towing-capacity-utility-performance-video/   PURE-ELECTRIC VOLKSWAGEN ID.6 SUV SPIED TESTING IN THE ALPS "Our spy photographers have snapped a near-production ready version of the pure-electric Volkswagen ID.6 SUV, ahead of its expected Chinese-market release next year. There’s still no official word yet on whether the new model will be sold in Europe – but the fact that this test mule was spotted undergoing development in the Alps could mean it’s more likely." writes Luke Wilkinson for AutoExpress: "The ID.6 will also adopt the same “face” as the rest of Volkswagen’s pure-electric ID. range, with similar headlamps and C-shaped grille surrounds. The rear of the vehicle looks almost identical to the imminent ID.4 SUV – albeit scaled up to luxury SUV proportions. Volkswagen has used a similar lighting design and tailgate layout, while the rear spoiler appears to be a larger facsimile of its smaller sibling’s. There’s no official word on range for the flagship model yet, but the ID. Roomzz concept was powered by and 82kWh battery pack, which Volkswagen said offered a range of 280 miles according to the WLTP cycle. A 150kW fast-charging system will also likely be provided"   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/106589/pure-electric-volkswagen-id6-suv-spied-testing-alps   2021 AUDI Q4 E-TRON SPIED "It hasn't been a week since we've seen the Skoda Enyaq iV – the electric crossover to use Volkswagen's MEB platform dedicated exclusively to zero-emissions vehicles. It's one of the three full-electric SUV siblings in this range to use the platform, the other two being the VW ID.4 and the Audi Q4 E-Tron." says Motor1.com: "the Q4 E-Tron prototypes here are still covered in swirls, though it won't be hard to imagine the production design. Of note, the prototypes seen here seem to inherit the concept version's styling and proportions, sans the huge wheels and bigger side mirrors. It won't be long until we see the Q4 E-Tron completely rid of its wraps since Audi confirmed that it will debut this year together with the E-Tron GT electric sedan."   https://www.motor1.com/news/442884/2021-audi-q4-e-tron-spied/   BYD STARTS OPERATIONS AT ITS LITHIUM IRON PHOSPHATE BATTERY FACTORY IN BRAZIL BYD recently began operations at its third plant in Brazil, which is also the South American country's very first factory for lithium iron phosphate batteries, at the Manaus Industrial Zone (PIM). The manufacturing plant, located in the northern state of Amazonas, is dedicated to the production of lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, and is primarily focused on installing these onto electric bus chassis. With an initial investment of R$15 million (USD 2.7 million), the factory, covering 5,000 square meters, will foster the electric mobility market in Brazil and allow for future expansions if necessary. The new plant has a production capacity of up to 18 thousand battery modules per year, and it is expected to deliver 1,000 battery modules by September this year.   https://www.byd.com/en/news/2020-09-01/BYD-Starts-Operations-at-its-Lithium-Iron-Phosphate-Battery-Factory-in-Brazil     FOR WRANGLER 4XE, JEEP PLANS TO BUILD SOLAR-POWERED CHARGERS ON OFF-ROAD TRAILS "The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid combines limited zero-emission driving with rugged off-road capability. But there aren't many places to plug in out in the wilderness. It appears Jeep has thought of that. The automaker plans to build solar-powered charging stations on off-road trails in California and Utah, Jeep North American boss Jim Morrison said in an interview with CNET" says Green Car Reports: "Locations will include Rubicon Springs, the halfway point of the famous Rubicon Trail (which lends its name to a Wrangler trim level), as well as select trails in Moab, Utah, a popular location for off-roading where Jeep enthusiasts host an annual Easter Safari."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129513_for-wrangler-4xe-jeep-plans-to-build-solar-powered-chargers-on-off-road-trails   GM TO UBER DRIVERS: WOULD YOU LIKE A BOLT? "General Motors is partnering with Uber to put more people into electric vehicles.  GM said Tuesday it is offering the ride-sharing company's drivers a discount on the purchase of a new Chevrolet Bolt. The drivers will get employee pricing on the Bolt and 20% off on Bolt charging accessories." according to Detroit Free Press: "The employee discount is available for current eligible Uber drivers in the United States and Canada, GM said.  The Bolt starts at $37,495, including the delivery charge. That means with the employee discount the average Uber driver could see a savings of $2,500-$2,900 off the suggested retail price, depending on the plan chose. GM said its data suggests ride-share drivers will have "significantly lower maintenance costs" when using a Bolt compared with traditional gas-powered vehicles." Show #790   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 26th May 2020. MERCEDES-BENZ LAUNCHES ITS ELECTRIC EQV MINIVAN FOR ~$64,000 "Mercedes-Benz is launching its electric EQV minivan in Europe for €71,388.10 (incl. 19% VAT), which is the equivalent of a sticker price of about ~$64,000 USD." says Electrek: "The electric EQV MPV was first unveiled last year when we learned that it is equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack, but the company is limiting the usable capacity to 90 kWh. They believe it’s going to result in 405 km (250 miles) of range on a single charge. To charge the battery pack, the EQV is equipped with an 11 kW on-board charger and it can DC fast-charge at up to 110 kW, which Mercedes claims can charge the battery pack from 10 to 80% in less than 45 min. The electric van will be available as part of its V-Class lineup in Europe, but no availability has been confirmed for the North American market."   https://electrek.co/2020/05/26/mercedes-benz-eqv-electric-minivan-price/   CarBuzz said: "Like the EQC SUV, the EQV features a similar sealed-off grille design. Riding on 18-inch wheels, it’s certainly one of the smarter vans around. Although still unconfirmed for the local market, the EQV will be offered elsewhere with two wheelbase lengths, the longer one stretching to 135 inches. It can seat up to eight passengers and accommodate 36.4 cubic feet of their luggage. Pretty nifty for a zero-emissions vehicle."   https://carbuzz.com/cars/mercedes-benz/eqv   And Green Car Reports says: "A new feature offers a particularly efficient and comfortable driving style: recuperation level DAUTO. According to the maxim “drive ahead and save energy” information from the security assistants, the navigation system and the camera get connected and adjust the strength of the recuperation situation—specifically and in real time. In addition, four driving programs help the customer to choose individually between the maximum of comfort and the maximum of range while driving."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2020/05/20200526-eqv.html   KIA IS CONSIDERING AN ULTRA-SMALL ELECTRIC CAR "Kia is examining plans to build a purely electric miniature car in the style of the Citroën Ami. Although the South Korean company has not revealed a timetable for these plans, it seems that Kia is already considering a new distribution model for the electric microcar." says Carrie from Electrive: "In a candid interview with AutoExpress Emilio Herrera, COO of Kia in Europe confirmed the company’s considerations. The mini electric car for urban areas – if it is realized – will be offered for rent globally via a subscription model. “The idea is to have a dedicated platform from Kia that we could possibly share with Hyundai,” Herrera said. The Kia manager did not name a timetable for a possible market launch of the small electric car. AutoExpress is expecting a corresponding production model in 2022. Citroën introduced the Ami at the end of February. The small two-seater in a strongly stylised design is to be available at prices starting at 6,000 euros or a monthly leasing rate of 19.99 euros (four years, 10,000 kilometres per year) in France. Pricing models for other European markets have not yet been revealed. Since Herrera spoke of a “dedicated platform” for the very small electric car, it does not seem likely to be the skateboard platform from Canoo. "   https://www.electrive.com/2020/05/26/kia-is-considering-an-ultra-small-electric-car/   RUMOR: IN APRIL TESLA RECEIVED ABOUT 15,000 ORDERS FOR MIC MODEL 3 LR "According to the Chinese media (via Moneyball), Tesla has received in April close to 15,000 orders for the new Long Range Made-in-China (MIC) Model 3. It's an unofficial number." reports InsideEVs: "t's great news that the demand for the upcoming LR (rear-wheel drive) is high because Tesla intends to produce in China some 4,000 Model 3 per week as early as in June. The last month was weaker than expected, as Model 3 registrations amounted to 4,312, up to 3-4 times less than anticipated production output (at 3,000 per week). It's explained that consumers were delaying orders of the Standard Range Model 3 to get a more attractive price (after changes in subsidies). Only time will tell whether sales in China will really stabilize at 4,000 per week (or 12,000 per month) for all versions (SR and LR)."   https://insideevs.com/news/425337/tesla-15000-orders-model-3-lr/   AUDI E-TRON IS THE NEW KING OF NORWAY "Norway remains one of the most fascinating auto markets in the world. With a 70% plug-in vehicle market share in the first 4 months of 2020, there is nothing that comes close to it. That isn’t an overnight figure either — the country has been far ahead of any other market in terms of plug-in vehicle market share for several years."That said, the market leader is now a vehicle that would typically be outside the price range of a working class family in other countries, but Norway is a rich country (very rich country) with adventurous terrain, so it makes a bit of sense. The Audi e-tron isn’t just first — it’s far ahead in the #1 spot so far this year." says CleanTechnica: "A German model that was in the #1 spot for many, many months, the Volkswagen e-Golf, is solidly in second at 6% market share. After that, you’ve got the Nissan LEAF, Hyundai Kona EV, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Tesla Model 3, Renault Zoe, BMW i3, and then a long tail of remaining PEVs. You also have a handful of plug-less vehicles scattered into the overall sales rankings (see charts below)."   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/05/25/audi-e-tron-is-the-new-king-of-norway/   MACRON DEMANDS CARMAKERS TURN TO ‘MADE IN FRANCE’ FOR €8BN VIRUS AID "French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled on Tuesday (26 May) an €8 billion aid package for the auto industry, which includes increased subsidies for electric car purchases" says Euractiv.com: "Negotiations with the likes of Citroën, Peugeot and Renault have been ongoing for weeks and the €8 billion support package does not come without strings, as Macron has made it clear they are expected to do more domestically. It was not immediately unclear if the support plan has specific conditions in terms of moving production back to France, although Renault will reportedly build electric motors at a plant in Normandy rather than in Asia, as previously planned, in order to access state aid. Renault will also lend its weight to the Battery Alliance, a pan-European industrial push to boost battery production and increase supply in check with growing demand for electric vehicles. Macron’s €8bn scheme is also aimed at consumers, who will be able to benefit from new and improved subsidy schemes worth around €1bn. For electric cars, the current premium of €6,000 for private citizens will increase to €7,000, while plug-in hybrids will be worth €2,000."   https://www.euractiv.com/section/electric-cars/news/macron-demands-carmakers-turn-to-made-in-france-for-e8bn-virus-aid/   RECORD €60BN INVESTMENT IN ELECTRIC CARS AND BATTERIES IN EUROPE SECURED LAST YEAR Europe secured €60 billion in investments to produce electric vehicles and batteries last year – 19 times more than in 2018, new analysis shows. Driven by EU car CO2 targets, industry and governments committed 3.5 times more into EV and battery production in Europe than they did in China, according to T&E’s report. Germany got the biggest chunk, €40 billion, coming mainly from the Volkswagen Group, and Tesla which announced a plant in Berlin. The Czech Republic received €6.6 billion, also thanks to VW, which plans to produce 75 all-electric models worldwide by 2029. Italy secured €1.75 billion in EV investments last year from Fiat, while France, Sweden and the UK each got around €1 billion from car manufacturers. Spain received close to €300 million from Opel, and Croatia got €80 million from Hyundai and Kia.   BYD BLADE PRISMATIC BATTERY CELL SPECS AND POSSIBILITIES "Simpler battery packs made with fewer and larger battery cells weren’t possible with compromised platforms like MQB, however in skateboard platforms like MEB – specially made for electric cars -, they are not only possible, they are what makes sense. Only in late 2016, high energy density battery cells started to be available in pouch format, like the LGX E63 made by LG Chem." says PushEVs: "In 2020, assembling big battery packs with tiny cells doesn’t make sense and I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla announces a battery pack made with cobalt-free prismatic battery cells in “battery day”. This would be great, not only for Tesla, but also for electric bicycle manufacturers who would benefit from an immediate increase of cylindrical cells available on the market.  BYD Blade Battery is a module-less CTP (cell-to-pack) battery pack. Without modules, the long prismatic battery cells connected in series are put in an array and then inserted into a battery pack, making it as simple as possible. The simplicity of the CTP technology helps to achieve a good energy density at the battery pack level, even if the energy density of the cells isn’t amazing."   https://pushevs.com/2020/05/26/byd-blade-prismatic-battery-cell-specs-possibilities/   RENAULT CAPTUR PLUG-IN HYBRID SPEC REVEALED Renault UK has confirmed full specifications of new E-TECH version of the two all-new Renault Captur Plug-in Hybrid. The All-New Captur Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) benefits from a new petrol-electric powertrain, making it the most efficient and economical in the range as well as the most powerful. The Captur Plug-in Hybrid uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine alongside a 9.8kWh battery driving two electric motors, enabling an all-electric driving range of 30 miles (WLTP) and total power output of 160hp. Show #643   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 16th November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   BMW I4 FIRST SPECS LEAKED: 530 HP, 373 MILES OF RANGE "The BMW i4 EV will go into production in 2021, part of the automaker's big offensive to launch 25 new electrified vehicles by 2023. The i4 will be BMW's proper competitor to the Tesla Model 3, and based on new information Roadshow learned on Thursday, it should put up a proper fight." according to CNET: "The BMW i4 will initially be powered by an 80-kilowatt-hour battery, producing about 390 kilowatts, or roughly 530 horsepower. Accelerating to 62 mph will take about 4 seconds flat, and the i4 will have an electronically limited top speed of 120 mph.The i4 will use BMW's new, so-called Generation 5 battery packs, which are significantly smaller than the Generation 3 and 4 packs used in the company's current EVs. This makes the cells easier to package in the vehicle's floor, and allows them to be more easily scaled for smaller or larger applications. These Generation 5 batteries are also stronger, meaning they can better handle fast-charging situations. BMW says that, on a 150-kW DC fast charger, the i4 should be able to achieve an 80% charge in about 35 minutes."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2021-bmw-i4-official-details/   VOLKSWAGEN GROUP TO INVEST ~€60B IN HYBRIDIZATION, ELECTRIC MOBILITY AND DIGITALIZATION OVER NEXT 5 YEARS "Under the Volkswagen Group’s Planning Round 68, the investment plan for 2020 to 2024, the Group plans to spend nearly €60 billion (US$66 billion) on the future areas of hybridization, electric mobility and digitalization over the next five years." This amounts to slightly more than 40% of the company’s investments in property, plant and equipment and all research and development costs during the planning period. Compared with the Group’s last Planning Round, it represents an increase of around 10 percentage points. The Group intends to invest around €33 billion (US$36 billion) of this figure in electric mobility alone." "About 20 million of the e-vehicles planned through 2029 will be based on the Group’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB). Most of the remaining 6 million vehicles will be based on the High Performance Platform (PPE)."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/11/20191115-vwag.html   TESLA MODEL 3 PERFORMANCE’S 0-60 MPH ACCELERATION "Tesla Model 3 Performance vehicles are getting faster 0-60 mph acceleration through the latest power optimization software update." says Electrek: "There are now reports that the Model 3 Performance’s 0-60 mph time has dipped below the 3-second mark. We have seen the update make a difference in drag races between a Model 3 Performance that received the update versus one that didn’t, but now we get some new impressive numbers about the performance after the upgrade. In the previous race, the owner said that the vehicle was getting a 3.2-second, 0-60 mph acceleration, which was already a significant improvement. Now DragTimes reports that the Model 3 Performance is getting a 0-60 mph acceleration time just under 3 seconds"   https://electrek.co/2019/11/14/tesla-model-3-performance-0-60-mph-acceleration-dips-below-3-sec-software-update/   TESLA MODEL 3 MID-RANGE NOW GOES 0-60MPH IN 4.9S "When Tesla released the Mid-Range Model 3, it was positioned as an entry-level vehicle that is designed to provide a practical, reasonably-priced way for customers to get into the company’s ecosystem. The Mid-Range Model 3 was thus conservatively specced, with performance figures that were closer to that of the Standard Range Model 3 than the more expensive Long Range AWD variant." reports Simon at Teslarati: "The Mid-Range Model 3 was ultimately retired upon the arrival of the Standard Range and Standard Range Plus. Tesla owner-enthusiast nukem384, who owns a Mid-Range Model 3, recently tested his vehicle’s acceleration after receiving the electric car maker’s most recent performance update. In the Tesla owner’s tests, the Mid-Range Model 3 was able to sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds consistently."   TESLA MODEL 3 MOTOR TREND CAR OF THE YEAR? "Not only did Motor Trend (MT) choose the Tesla Model 3 as one of three finalists for its 2020 Car of the Year award, but it also calls the entry-level Tesla midsize sedan the best sport sedan available today." says Steven Loveday at InsideEVs.   According to MotorTrend: "The 2020 Model 3 is the best sport sedan on the market. The 2020 Model 3’s interior design continues to be modern and minimalistic, but it’s elegant in its simplicity. The 2020 Model 3’s seats offer more bolstering, and rear passengers now enjoy a more ergonomic position, as the bench has been raised for improved comfort. In terms of driving, the Model 3 offers impressive dynamic performance as well as battery-pack range that continues to be the benchmark for electric vehicles."   https://insideevs.com/news/382549/tesla-model-3-motor-trend-car-year/   POLESTAR DETAILS NEW LEASING OFFERS "Volvo’s luxury branch Polestar now offers its first electric model with new leasing rates in Sweden and Germany. The Polestar 2 starts from €599 a month in Germany based on 48 months and mileage of 10,000 kilometres per year."  says Electrive: "Polestar also covers routine maintenance and services, including electric vehicle collection and delivery for the first three years. Polestar follows a unique (or Tesla-like) sales concept with sales being made online and in so-called Polestar Spaces. By the end of 2020, Polestar aims to open a total of 50 stores worldwide. Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, considers the new leasing offers to have “competitive conditions and good specifications,” designed to rival the Tesla Model 3."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/11/15/polestar-details-new-leasing-offers-for-first-electric-car/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   If you had to pick ONE upside to driving an EV, what would be it be?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 251 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Show #624   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 28th October 2019. TESLA TO UNLOCK EXTENDED RANGE FOR WILDFIRES "Tesla owners living in areas affected by the ongoing CA wildfires will be able to tap into the maximum range offered by their vehicles, even if they purchased trims that feature a software-limited battery pack. The update was confirmed by CEO Elon Musk on Twitter Monday morning." says Simon at Teslarati: " owners of electric cars such as the Model S 40, Model S 60, and Model S 70 will be able to gain extra range for their electric cars. This is made possible by Tesla equipping the vehicles with a larger battery pack that is software-locked. The Model S 40, for example, is equipped with a 60 kWh battery that’s software-limited to 40 kWh. Tesla is yet to confirm if the Standard Range Model 3 will also have its full battery capacity unlocked.  Musk’s recent tweet seems to confirm that free unlimited Supercharging will also be enabled for owners in areas that are affected by the ongoing CA wildfires. "   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-range-upgrade-ca-wildfires-elon-musk/   TESLA CUTS PRICE OF SOLAR AND POWERWALL INSTALLATIONS FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY WILDFIRES "Elon Musk says that Tesla is focusing installations for people affected by the California wildfires: “Apologies to those waiting for Solar/Powerwall outside California, as we are prioritizing those affected by wildfires.” The CEO even said that they are offering $1,000 discounts to them" according to Electrek: "Musk has especially been talking about the capacity to avoid power outages by combining solar power with Powerwall battery packs. The CEO says that Tesla Energy is becoming a distributed global utility and it could outgrow its automotive business."   GENERAL MOTORS SIDES WITH TRUMP "General Motors, Fiat Chrysler and Toyota say the reason they’re backing the Trump administration in its assault on California’s decades-old campaign to reduce auto emissions is to avoid fragmenting the industry in search of a single national environmental standard." reports The LA TImes: " Those companies and the coalition, which includes such other manufacturers as Subaru, Hyundai, Mazda and Nissan, filed a brief for the defense — that is, the Trump administration — in a lawsuit challenging its effort to roll back existing auto emission and mileage standards."   https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2019-10-29/automakers-trump-emissions   MINI COOPER SE ELECTRIC CAR PRICES FOR US MARKET "MINI was one of the first auto manufacturers to offer a battery electric version of a production car. In 2009, it began leasing its MINI E, a modified version of the popular MINI Cooper, in selected US markets. That car had an EPA range of 100 miles" according to Steve Hanley for CleanTechnica: "Now the battery electric MINI Cooper SE is ready for its debut in world markets and the company has just announced its starting price in the US will be $29,900 plus $850 shipping and handling. The first cars will reach dealers in America in March of 2020. With federal, state, and local incentives, a new MINI Cooper SE could cost as little as $17,900 and come with special privileges such as access to HOV lanes during commuting hours."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/28/mini-cooper-se-electric-car-prices-for-us-market-announced/   MINI COOPER SE ELECTRIC CAR STARTS AS LOW AS $17,900 Meanwhile electrek notes: "When BMW unveiled the production version of the electric Mini Cooper SE earlier this year, some people were disappointed by the fact that the vehicle was based on the older BMW i3 electric platform. It’s equipped with the i3’s older 32.6 kWh battery pack, which Mini says is good for a range of 235 to 270 km (146-168 miles) based on the WLTP cycle. It means closer to 130 miles on the EPA cycle. The battery pack is limited to 50 kW DC fast-charging and it feeds a 135 kW/184 hp motor."   https://electrek.co/2019/10/28/mini-cooper-se-electric-car-price-us/   RENAULT’S K-ZE OFFERED CHINA HEADS TO EUROPE "Renault is planning a modified version of the City K-ZE small electric car offered at competitive prices in China for the European market. However, the price for Europe is still unclear, as is the brand under which the K-ZE will be sold in Europe." says Electrive: " it is most likely that the European version of the City K-ZE will be offered by the Renault brand Dacia. Renault presented the K-ZE at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, and the car has been on sale since September for 61,800 yuan, the equivalent of just under 7,900 euros. It has an engine power of 33 kW, a torque of 125 Nm and a 26.8 kWh rechargeable battery"   https://www.electrive.com/2019/10/28/renaults-k-ze-offered-china-heads-to-europe/   WORLD’S LARGEST STORAGE BATTERY — 2.5 GWH A site on Vernon Avenue in Queens, New York, once was home to 16 gas powered peaker plants. Only 2 remain in operation today. Soon, all of them will be demolished to make room for a 316 MW/2528 MWh storage battery that will be the largest in the world. The proposal to build the new facility was approved last week by the New York Public Service Commission." reports CleanTechnica: "The proposed storage project will consist of 136 battery storage and inverter units, 64 of which will be double stacked on the property."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/28/worlds-largest-storage-battery-2-5-gwh-to-replace-gas-peaker-plants-in-queens/   FORD OF EUROPE PILOTING GEOFENCING AND BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY "Ford is extending its European plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) trial to Cologne. The study, which is also testing Ford PHEVs on the streets of London and Valencia, Spain, aims to better analyse and show the real-world benefits of such vehicles for the environment and for commercial vehicle owners and operators." says Green Car Congress: "Each of the 10 PHEVs in the 12-month Cologne trial features the FordPass Connect on-board cellular modem, and a plug-in device which enables the geofencing and blockchain capabilities. Whenever a trial vehicle enters a controlled zone, its electric-drive mode is triggered and the zero-emission driving green miles are documented. The emissions mode and time that vehicles enter or leave a controlled zone are recorded to a secure distributed ledger—a blockchain—ensuring emissions data is safely stored and shared among relevant parties including city authorities and the vehicle or fleet owners."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/10/20191028-ford.html   THE FIRST GAS STATION TO CONVERT TO AN EV-CHARGING STATION IN AMERICA From Jalopnik: "About a month ago, RS Automotive opened in Takoma Park, Maryland, as the first U.S. gas station that’s been converted fully to an EV charging station, reports NPR. Its owner, Depeswar Doley, has kept the station looking largely the same as a regular gas station, so sometimes there’s confusion from drivers who pull up with their internal combustion engine cars, looking to fill up."   “A lot of them pull up and get upset”   https://jalopnik.com/this-is-the-first-gas-station-to-convert-to-an-ev-charg-1839412347   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   Set by listener Martin Young: “What were some of your biggest surprises about living with a BEV?”   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 256 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Show #454   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 25th April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Elon Tweets: "UK Model 3 order page goes live next week, followed shortly thereafter by Japan, Australia, New Zealand & Hong Kong. We will delay $1k full self-driving option price increase until May 10 for those unable to order by May 1"   TESLA Q1 FINANCIAL REPORT "Tesla announced Wednesday its Q1 2019 earnings reports." reported InsideEVs today: "The automaker's report showed that profit levels achieved late last year could not be maintained in Q1 2019. Nobody expected high Q1 profits anyway though. However, the results are far worse than expected. The main financial details from the report are as follows:   Musk: "All Tesla cars being built today" have self-driving ability and ability for Robotaxis Reiterates 1 million Robotaxis by 2020 Musk says "massive" deliveries in Europe at end of Q1 as a good problem to have, with half of all deliveries happening in final 10 days of the time period. Musk is proud of the fact people are paying a premium to get a Model 3... not a lot of "mainstream EV" rhetoric used yet Chief Financial Officer Zach Kirkhorn calls this, "one of the most complicated" periods of the company's history, citing some one-time charges and the overseas deliveries that have skewed the report. Automotive revenue losses mostly connected to Model S and Model X declines, pricing changes Musk says Tesla will roll out an "insurance product" next month, but does not divulge details Tesla Semi: "prototypes are working amazingly well," Musk says, "we even use them to deliver some Model 3s" Location for production isn't set, but batteries come from Nevada Model Y production still unset, too, but there are unlikely to be delays whether it's set on Fremont or Nevada Musk alludes to finding space in Fremont to build Model Y, backtracking on the plant being, "packed to the gills" On "self-driving:" Musk says, "we're just going to continue reporting" "Tesla is a far more efficiently operating company than it was a year ago..." Tesla will continue to add stores in locations, "that are no-brainers," will close others that have low traffic. "It's common sense," Musk says. The $35,000 Model 3: "It's just slightly more inconvenient to order..."   Tesla said: "We produced roughly 63,000 Model 3 vehicles in Q1, which was approximately 3% more than the previous quarter. This improvement in production rate was modest mainly due to changes to the production process for the introduction of new variants of Model 3, fewer working days and a supplier limitation. We started production and deliveries of Model 3 vehicles for overseas markets during Q1. To quickly meet international demand, Europe and China Model 3 builds occurred in the first half of the quarter, with builds for local US markets in the second half. This wave of quarter-end deliveries in the US, China and Europe meant that even short delays caused deliveries to be deferred to Q2. To improve our operations, cost efficiency and customer experience, we are in the process of balancing our regional vehicle builds throughout the quarter."   Autoblog says: "The company which is ramping up production of its Model 3 electric sedan, the vehicle Tesla sees as the key to future success, stood by its 2019 delivery forecast of 360,000 to 400,000 vehicles and said it may produce as many as 500,000 vehicles if its factory in Shanghai reaches volume production in the fourth quarter. Tesla said it would make a loss in its second quarter but predicted a return to profit in the third. Musk said that global deliveries were "the most difficult logistics problem" he had ever seen."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/24/tesla-reports-quarterly-loss/   Simon at Teslarati wrote: "Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the company’s executives explained during the Q1 2019 earnings call that the company’s lower-than-expected performance was due to one-time items and circumstances such as delivery delays for the Model 3 in Europe and China. With Tesla back in the red, here is what Wall Street analysts are now saying."   TESLA IS CURRENTLY CONSIDERING A FACTORY IN GERMANY "Tesla already operates its Fremont factory, which supplies vehicles around the world, but Tesla is currently building a factory in Shanghai to supply the least expensive versions of Model 3 and Model Y to the Chinese market and reduce logistics costs related to importing vehicles from the US." reported Electrek today: "The automaker would like to do the same with a factory in Europe to supply its European markets. The CEO says Tesla is currently considering building a factory in Germany"   https://electrek.co/2019/04/24/tesla-factory-germany/   TESLA WILL CONTINUE TO OFFER $35K MODEL 3 DESPITE MINIMAL ORDERS "Some have said that Tesla moving its $35,000 Standard Range Model 3 "off menu" suggests that it will soon disappear. However, that's not the case just yet. CEO Elon Musk promised during the company's Q1 2019 conference call that the base variant will remain available, at least for now." according to InsideEVs.com: "Earlier reports made it seem as though Tesla wasn't planning to keep the car around for very long. This is because the "off-menu" status makes the car more difficult to obtain, and the automaker failed to clarify pricing specifics, whether or not Autopilot was included, and how long the $35,000 option would hang around. Musk's indication that you can still order it is helpful to concerned shoppers. However, it still doesn't clarify when the variant will go away. If you do plan on ordering one, it makes sense to do so sooner rather than later."   https://insideevs.com/news/346495/tesla-keeps-35k-model-3-option/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-   AVENGERS: ENDGAME PREMIERE SEES TONY STARK ARRIVE IN AUDI E-TRON GT "Before fans pile into theaters for the latest and possibly greatest Marvel flick, Avengers: Endgame, the original Avengers cast teams up one last time (we think... no spoilers) for the long-awaited movie's premiere in Los Angeles. And one of the saga's most recognizable stars, Robert Downey Jr., rolled up to the theater in a concept car appropriate for Iron Man himself: the new Audi E-Tron GT." says Jeff Perez fo Motor1.com: "Audi unveiled the E-Tron GT last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show with a 90 kilowatt-hour battery pack and 582 horsepower (434 kilowatts) on tap. With fast charging (zero to 80 percent in 20 minutes) and wireless charging capabilities (at 11 kilowatts), Audi gives the E-Tron GT an estimated range of 250 miles (400 kilometers) on the WLTP test cycle."   EVGO TO DEPLOY AUTOCHARGE TECHNOLOGY EVgo announced that it will be the first public EV charging network to debut Autocharge technology. This innovative technology instantly recognizes a customer’s vehicle and initiates automatic charging after a one-time registration, making it even easier for drivers to fast charge with EVgo.   Autocharge functionality enables EVgo registered customers to start a fast charging session in seconds without the need to open the EVgo app or swipe an RFID or credit card – saving EV drivers time and delivering a seamless fast charging experience. EVgo’s Autocharge rollout reaffirms the company’s leadership position, ahead of industry-wide implementation of the ISO 15118 ‘Plug&Charge’ standard, which is in development but not yet scheduled for launch by automakers.   VOLKSWAGEN I.D. TO INITIALLY BE SOLD AT A LOSS OF $3,340? "We are just days away from May 8 when Volkswagen will open the Volkswagen I.D. pre-order books for Europe. As more people are getting familiar with the offering, potentially we can see some leaks." reports Mark KAne for InsideEVs.com: "According to Auto Motor & Sport, the base version of the I.D. (the name is not yet confirmed) will not be available initially, but it's said that the price will be €29,990. It's not bad for a 48 kWh battery and 330 km (205 miles) of WLTP range. In France, including the €6,000 incentive, it should be available at some point in the future for €23,990. The first I.D. on the market - the launch edition - will be the mid-range version with around a 62 kWh battery and 450 km (280 miles) of WLTP range. The price of this one is expected to easily be above €35,000 ($39,000). The public debut of the car is scheduled for September - Frankfurt Motor Show."   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. After launching its first-ever hybrid wagon with the facelifted Mondeo, Ford of Europe is now announcing it will bring mild-hybrid variants of the Fiesta and Focus to [Europe]" according to Anthony Karr for Motor1.com US today: "the Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid and Focus EcoBoost Hybrid will use a version of the 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost equipped with a belt-driven integrated starter/generator (BISG) which replaces the traditional alternator. The energy from the battery will be released during acceleration to provide torque assistance for a “punchier, more responsive performance, particularly at lower engine speeds.” Also, it will run the car’s electrical ancillaries."   https://www.motor1.com/news/315421/ford-focus-fiesta-mild-hybrid/   BYD REVEALS PLANS FOR ALL-NEW E SERIES OF ELECTRIC CARS Chinese automaker BYD officially launched the all-new “e” product series, which will be operated parallel with the “Dynasty” series. There are three sedan models and two SUV models under the “e” series to be rolled out in 2019. Besides, the automaker will start to accept orders of the BYD e1, the first model for the new series, on April 1." Reports InsideEVs.com: "Products under the newly-launched series are developed on the “e-platform”, a BEV platform unveiled by BYD at Auto China 2018. According to BYD’s planning, the “e” series is positioned as a provider of smart BEVs, focusing on quality, cost performance and new intelligent mobility life, and the “Dynasty” matrix, designed to be a forward-looking leader for the BEV era, more highlights technology guidance, car performance and experience."   https://insideevs.com/byd-all-new-e-series-electric-cars/   TESLA MODEL 3 OUTSELLS BMW 3 SERIES, MERCEDES C CLASS IN EUROPE "In its first full month on the market, the Tesla Model 3 shot to #1 on the European sales charts in its so-called luxury mid-size segment. That's quite an accomplishment for Tesla, the electric automaker that hails from California. Even more impressive is that the Model 3 isn't even available in the UK, as right-hand-drive versions have yet to be produced." Writes Eric Loveday for Motor1.com: "The focus here is on sales in the month of February. Those figures for Europe have just become final. So then, exactly how well did the Model 3 do in regards to sales? Well, it outsold some stiff German competition like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. That's like a punch in the face to the German automakers right there."   Felipe Munoz, global analyst for Jato Dynamics: "As we’re seeing in the US, Tesla is also shaking up the European market. Its long-lasting impact will depend on how quickly the German premium makers, Volvo and JLR react to the arrival of the Model 3 to Europe and how quickly they can bring in their own midsize electric cars.”   TESLA MODEL 3 RIGHT-HAND DRIVE SPOTTED IN CALIFORNIA "A right-hand-drive variant of the Tesla Model 3 has been spotted recently in California. In a photo shared on Reddit by user u/Mr_Salty_Peanuts, a black test version of the midsize sedan is seen driving on I-280 with dealer plates. " reports Teslarati: "The sighting of the RHD Model 3 is good news, particularly for reservation holders in the UK in close proximity to locations covered by Tesla’s current European sales ramp, which only cover left-hand drive territories. Tesla’s online configurators generally open a few months prior to deliveries, meaning if the all-electric car maker’s predictions are correct, customers in RHD locations like the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong will soon have an opportunity to design their vehicles."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-3-right-hand-drive-spotted-in-california/   TESLA DELAYS DELIVERIES OF MODEL 3 WITH STANDARD BATTERY PACK Fred at Electrek picks up today on the case of the Standard Range Model 3 that isn't to be, at least not yet. "Many buyers of Tesla’s new base Model 3 with Standard battery pack starting at $35,000 are reportedly being told by the automaker that their delivery is being delayed. In some cases, Tesla is trying to upsell them."When Tesla finally launched the standard Model 3 for $35,000 last month, it promised 2 to 4 weeks delivery timelines to buyers. We have yet to see evidence of Tesla delivering any Standard Model 3 to date, but the automaker has delivered many Standard Plus Model 3, which was also launched at the same time. Over the previous day, Electrek has received several reports from buyers who had a delivery date for their Standard Model 3 after they have been told by Tesla that they couldn’t deliver the vehicle."   https://electrek.co/2019/03/26/tesla-model-3-standard-battery-delay/   AUDI A4-SIZED ELECTRIC SEDAN DUE 2023 TO FIGHT TESLA MODEL 3 "Audi is kicking its electrification plans into high gear with the launch of the E-Tron due to be followed later this year by its more stylish sibling, the E-Tron Sportback. These two fully electric crossovers will be joined by the Tesla Model S-rivaling E-Tron GT in the second half of next year, with a road-going Q4 E-Tron in the pipeline for a late 2020 launch." Reports Adrian Padeanu for Motor1.com US today: "the aforementioned E-Tron GT (pictured here) will be joined by a smaller sedan similar in size with the A4 to go up against the Tesla Model 3. The new zero-emissions model will ride on the same PPE platform as the E-Tron GT, which by the way will have approximately the same size as the A6 Sedan. the A4-sized EV is earmarked for a 2023 release. If that’s correct, it could mean we will see the production version as early as 2022."   https://www.motor1.com/news/315404/audi-electric-sedan-2023-launch/   COMEDIAN JAY LENO SAYS ELECTRIC CARS 'WILL BE THE FUTURE' USA Today have been talking to Jay Leno: "While Leno has a horde of well-kept antique cars in a custom-built bunker in Burbank, California, the self-proclaimed "big car lover" also has an affinity for modern vehicles with high-tech features." "I have a Tesla Model S. That's the future," Leno told USA TODAY. "I predict a child born today, most likely by the time they're 18, may not have ever ridden in an internal combustion car. I think electric will be the future." "It wasn't until recently with new battery technology that you get hundreds and hundreds of miles (on a charge)," Leno said. "I think we'll see a thousand-mile range pretty soon," Leno said about battery-powered cars.   https://eu.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2019/03/18/jay-leno-electric-cars-are-future/3175820002/   BIG OIL PUMPS $1 BILLION INTO CLIMATE CHANGE LOBBYING, EXECS LAUGH ABOUT TRUMP ACCESS "Major oil companies have spent $1 billion on climate lobbying that is “overwhelmingly in conflict” with the Paris Agreement, according to one new report. And another report reveals oil execs laughing about their newfound access within the Trump administration." Reports Electrek: "While many oil companies have made a public show of their green energy investments, InfluenceMap reports that ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Chevron, BP and Total have used more than $1 billion in shareholder funds since the Paris Agreement on “misleading climate-related branding and lobbying.” Catherine Howarth, chief executive of London-based responsible investment charity ShareAction: "InfluenceMap’s research confirms a widely held suspicion that Big Oil’s glossy sustainability reports and shiny climate statements are all rhetoric and no action. These companies have mastered the art of corporate doublespeak – by boasting about their climate credentials while quietly using their lobbying firepower to sabotage the implementation of sensible climate policy and pouring millions into groups that engage in dirty lobbying on their behalf.”   https://electrek.co/2019/03/25/big-oil-climate-lobbying/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
