All electric with good electric performance and a lot of features to it. Then I hopped into an Audi sedan, a big sedan, the E Tron GT, and it made me think if I was an executive of a large company and wanted to both be pampered and appear to be pampered, I wonder which one I'd take. You would never normally put those two cars in the same in the same ballpark, in the same sentence. I mean, the Audi E, Tron GT and the Kia EV9 are, on almost any level, very different vehicles. But the back seat of large sedans are only comfortable when you push the front passenger seat as far forward as possible. Whereas if you sit in the back of the EV9, there's a lot of room and the top of the range EV9 has heated and cooled seats in the front AND second row of seats. The EV9 is well suited for the executive trip to the airport. In the upper large sedans and it's over $100,000 category, the Porsche Panamera is #1, but don't get too excited about it so far this year (the first quarter of 2024) they've sold 12. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV comes with three powertrain options, priced between $79,050 and $90,650, and will be built in Alabama to compete with the BMW iX and Audi E-Tron. It offers features like 10-degree rear-axle steering, fast charging, and adjustable damping, with an optional air suspension. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating 120,000 Tesla Model Y vehicles due to reports of steering wheels falling off while driving. Two incidents have been reported due to missing retaining bolts, and a recall could follow pending the investigation's outcome. Nissan is recalling some 2023 Nissan Ariya electric SUVs due to the possibility of the steering wheel detaching. The recall covers 1,063 vehicles, and owners are encouraged to check for loose steering wheels and contact a dealership for a replacement. Volkswagen may prefer to build its first battery cell factory in North America, with potential incentives of up to €10 billion under the US Inflation Reduction Act. The company is awaiting the EU's reaction before deciding to build a plant in Eastern Europe, and other European battery manufacturers may also look to the US for subsidies. The long-wheelbase version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz electric van will debut in June in the US for the 2024 model year. VinFast's founder established a rental service for electric cars and scooters in Vietnam, offering a fleet of 10,000 electric cars and 100,000 electric scooters, as well as its own all-electric taxi service in Hanoi. The cars will be VinFast vehicles, and the company seeks to promote EVs by offering test drives and other opportunities. Bafang, an electric bicycle giant, has formed a new brand called T&D to expand its influence into the electric motorcycle industry. It has unveiled its first drivetrains, the FE01 Off-Road Drive System and the LI01 City Commuting Drive System, with up to 60 kW of peak power and 125 Nm of torque, aiming for more affordable electric motorcycles. Chalmers University researchers have developed an induction technology capable of charging at 500 kW with nearly 100% efficiency, nearing commercialization. It is made possible with high-power semiconductors, such as silicon carbide components, and works with four times higher frequencies than previous wireless charging systems. House Republicans have introduced legislation to restrict California's ability to ban gas-powered cars, protecting consumer choice and preventing higher costs. The 2035 rule would affect over 40% of total US car purchases, and the legislation aims to prevent California from implementing stricter emissions standards than the federal government. Lightship, a new company founded by two Tesla veterans, has created an electric-assisted camping trailer called the L1 that can be towed without affecting an EV's range. It has an 80 kWh battery and up to 3 kW of solar power, priced at $125,000, with production starting in late 2024. New York City is banning the sale of electric bicycles, scooters, and other mobility devices that are not UL-certified, reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires. The new law requires devices to be certified to the UL 2849 standard, and while lithium-ion battery fires are rare, they can result in significant property damage and fatalities. Electric vehicle transmissions have fewer components and a simpler powertrain than those used in standard combustion engine vehicles. There are different types of EV transmissions, including single-speed, multi-speed, and continuously variable options. Bosch and Inmotive have developed advanced transmission technologies that offer significant advantages over single-speed transmissions, such as energy savings and improved range and performance. Wyclef Jean Launches the ‘Lightest Electric Supercar' That Can Go 0 to 60 in 2.3 Sec - Haitian rapper and musician, Wyclef Jean, has launched the Attucks Apex APO electric supercar, the lightest-ever electric supercar on the market, with an ultralow weight of 1200 kg, a top speed of 190 mph, and acceleration from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds. The APO electric supercar will start at around $350,000 and is set for its official release next year.

Electric cars are coming. Or more accurately, they're here. Audi's e-tron crossover helped push the company's EV efforts, but the stylish e-tron GT turns the Audi EV portfolio into something you'd be excited to see at your local Cars and Coffee. The Audi e-tron GT comes standard with a pair of electric motors that drive the front and rear axle. These permanent magnet motors supply 496 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque to the wheels, which help this EV sedan sprint to 60 from a dead stop in 3.9 seconds. Those figures increase in RS trim to 590 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque, which shrinks the 60 mph time to 3.1 seconds. Powering the e-tron GT's motors is a 93 kWh battery pack that can feed these motors for 238 EPA-estimated miles. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2022 Audi e-tron GT and puts it through its paces. Wren walks you around the e-tron GT and highlights the car's features and styling before climbing into the interior to explain how it feels. RIVIAN SAYS IT'S ON TRACK TO DELIVER 25,000 VEHICLES THIS YEAR "Rivian said Wednesday the company produced 4,401 electric vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois, and delivered 4,467 during the quarter ended June 30. In the first quarter of 2022, Rivian produced 2,553 vehicles and delivered 1,227. That includes a mix of the Rivian R1T pickup truck, R1S SUV and the EDV commercial electric vans it is making for Amazon. The automaker's top priority this summer is ramping up production at its Normal factory by introducing a second shift. It also plans to break ground on a $5 billion facility in Georgia, which awarded the automaker the state's largest-ever incentives package of $1.5 billion." We estimated that Ford E-Transit sales stand at 559 (based on the cumulative number and previous reports). According to Ford, going into July, both F-150 Lightning and Mach-E dealer stock is higher than in June, which heralds stronger July sales ahead.  Noteworthy is also that over 70% of BEV sales are customers coming from other competitor brands. In the second quarter of 2022, Ford sold 15,527 all-electric vehicles (up 144% year-over-year), while so far this year sales almost reached 23,000 (up 77%)." The 500 kW fast chargers have peak currents of 650 amps – easily some of the most impressive power in the current industry and a clear response to competitors in China.
