Regardless of whether you know the name Norman Greenbaum or not, you most DEFINITELY know his hit 1969 song “Spirit In the Sky”. This uplifting single has appeared in countless movies, TV shows, and commercials, with its use showing no sign of slowing over five decades later. In this episode I spoke with author John Stangeland regarding his book Aline MacMahon: Hollywood, the Blacklist, and the Birth of Method Acting. During the 1930s and 1940s, MacMahon starred in countless films and was among the most influential actors of the era, her talent revered as highly as peers Katherine Hepburn, Paul Muni, and Bette Davis. Her pioneering use of a new acting style brought to America from Russia by Konstantin Stanlisavsky―now widely known as the Method―began a revolution on the screen and made her an industry darling. Doug Hess is the host!

This Oral History Interview is with Larry Miller of Stangeland Vineyards. Larry talks about how he found an enjoyment for wine, and how his family happened to own a site that was ideal for grape growing. From there, Stangeland was born and slowly grew, first as a vineyard and later as a winery too. Larry also talks about the growth of the Oregon wine industry, specifically around him in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and about the people he's met through the wine industry who have been meaningful to him. This interview was conducted by Rich Schmidt on February 18, 2022 at Stangeland Vineyards in Salem.

Remember when libraries were dark stately places with only books and magazines? Where if you talked at more than a whisper some stern librarian shushed you? No one likes to be shushed! And forget about eating or drinking. While those stately libraries still exist, new libraries have computers, 3d printing, video production, and even lattes. New construction is almost always modern, with naturally lit rooms replacing those dark bookstacks. Libraries have become community centers, voting centers, and social services centers, too. Joining us are two well-known Modernist library architects, Raleigh North Carolina's Louis Cherry and from Oslo Norway, architect Siv Helene Stangeland.

Jæren ligger litt sør for Stavanger, altså sør-vest i Norge.
