One of the truly classic hiking trails in the United States, let alone the world, Buckskin Gulch swerves through a subterranean paradise for the senses. Attempt this visually-arresting walk as a day trip, or walk the entire 20 miles over the course of four days.Located in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (near Kanab, Utah) and Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness (Arizona), Buckskin Gulch trails takes hikers through the veritable layer cake of the Colorado Plateau's geographical wonderment. It is the longest and deepest slot canyon in the Southwest and offers obstacles like rock jams, pools, quicksand, and the potential for flash floods. Yet a day hike option via Wire Pass Trail is moderately easy, and should be a must-do tour on any hiker's list. For more visit www.the-overland-podcast.com

Welcome to The Real Estate Investing School Podcast! In this episode, host Brody Fausett sits down with Tony Robinson, real estate investor and host of the BiggerPockets Rookie Real Estate Podcast, to break down a unique hotel deal in Kanab, Utah. Tony shares how he transitioned from corporate life to scaling his real estate business, eventually securing this 13-room hotel near Zion National Park through creative seller financing. Listeners will hear firsthand how Tony overcame setbacks with two failed attempts at raising capital for larger deals and learned to “scale smarter” by focusing on smaller, achievable opportunities. Tony dives deep into the numbers, outlining how he structured the deal with $200K down, favorable seller-financing terms, and a $600K raise to cover renovations and working capital. Brody and Tony discuss the importance of finding great partnerships, managing investor relationships, and leveraging equity strategically for future growth. This candid conversation highlights the power of perseverance, creative deal structuring, and maintaining a mindset of providing opportunities for investors, rather than simply asking for money. “People can't believe how we live out here on the land, and under the stars. Maybe it's just the freedom of it. Once you get that red dirt in your blood and your socks, you can't get rid of either one of them. It just stays with you, and you're going to find that out if you stick around very long.” Norris Church, Kanab The Western is as finely layered as the red rock deserts and dusty towns that serve as their backdrop. Ever since they first appeared on the silver screen, Westerns have been rife with opposing viewpoints, contradictions and complexities as varied as the people who watched them. Gunslingers, shoot outs, declarations of love and revenge – the heroes and villains of Western movies have come to define the American psyche in ways that no other genre ever has. This is the first of our insight episodes, audio documentaries that dive deep into the subjects that make places come alive: from anthropology and history to music, art and more. But today, we're going to the movies. Utah celebrates 100-years of movie magic this year. It has served as the backdrop for everything from alien planets to Jurassic worlds. But it's most famous for the Westerns that were shot here. It's easy to see why they were. Walk amongst the high buttes and slot canyons of Utah, and it's hard not to feel like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid might jump out at you at any minute. This episode will take you to the places where some of the most iconic Westerns were shot, from Monument Valley to Kanab. We're going to dive into the past and learn what it was really like making them and explore how the films made here have helped to shape a vision of the old west – good and bad – that has spread around the world. Whether you're a movie buff or you've never watched a Western before, we guarantee after listening to this you'll be itching to hop on a horse and ride off into the sunset. Kanab, Utah is not only the backdrop of many westerns, but it is also home to Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends Animal Society is a nonprofit animal welfare organization. BFAS does outreach nationwide with shelters, rescue groups and members to promote pet adoption, no-kill animal rescue, and spay-and-neuter practices. Best Friends Animal Society's mission is Save Them All and they are making amazing strides to do just that. When they started, 17 million animals a year were being euthanized and today, that number is down to 355,000. Ethan Wayne visited BFAS in Kanab, UT and sat down with founder Francis Battitsta and CEO Julie Castle. Self reliance and grit are amongst many qualities that Francis and Julie share with John Wayne and we hope you enjoy this episode! TTB 173: The Cowboy Culture Matt Jacob is a photographer who's main artistic discipline focuses on capturing the evocative, dynamic, and complex lives of humans within different cultures and subcultures around the world. Today we discussed “The Cowboy”, a series where Matt spent time on the Button Family Ranch in Kanab, Utah, USA. In Matt's own words; “I was fortunate to be allowed to spend time with the Button family on the Button Cattle Co. ranch and farm and get to know the history of their generational way of life and what the future might look like in their business, given the externalities that are placing more and more significant stress on the industry, e.g. climate change, geographical sanctions, meat trade, politics and global import/export economics.” The Travelers Blueprint is an indie travel podcast where each week we like to bring you insight from travel authors, adventurers, conservationists, digital nomads, tour guides, and through our own personal experiences.
