It's no secret that we love music related documentaries. It's always interesting when the talking heads get their brains picked on an equally interesting subject. One particular doc that has gotten attention is the "Records Collecting Dust" and it's sequel. Being vinyl fanatics, it's so cool diving into some our fave artists record collections with them. These amazing docs have inspired us to do our own audio version. We share our first vinyl, some cool collectibles and a fistful of essential platters. Featuring some amazing records ranging from Sodom to The Crue to Bob Newhart (??). What are some of your faves? In our "News, Views and Tunes", we attend the 2024 Ai-Kon anime/manga con and discuss the Legend of Seth Putnam. Musically, we crank Paul Di'Anno's Warhorse, Destroyer 666, Iron Reagan, Overdrive (Swe), Steel Vengeance, Executioner (Boston) and The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black. Horns Up!

As you know we kicked off our 2nd year doing our 125 Roller Coaster Challenge riding Twisted Timbers at their media day so we figured, maybe we can be one of the first riders on Cedar Point's newest roller coaster, Steel Vengeance. Yes, we know this episode is a day late but we have a good excuse, PAUL JUST CAME BACK FROM FLORIDA!!! This episode is part one of a three part series focusing on this trip. Paul went to Sea World Orlando, Paul finally got to Universal Islands of Adventure, and the focus of this episode, Paul went back to Busch Gardens - Tampa and he got to ride IRON GWAZI. Yes, he will be discussing this amazing new RMC but he will also be answering some additional questions. How is the Mardi Gras events at this park? How is the paint job going for Montu? Do people actually like Tigris? and is Kumba still the king of the B&M rattle? Paul got to spend two days at this amazing park and got over 15 rides on the new purple tracked beauty thanks to having a Plat pass (the episode name is starting to make sense now isn't it). Will Iron Gwazi live up the hype? Is it better than Steel Vengeance? How does it compare to VelociCoaster? Check out this episode and we can't wait to share part two of this adventure entitled "Breakin the Ice" Let's Get Social YouTube - 125 Roller Coaster Challenge - your home for shorts and coasters Instagram & Facebook - 125rollercoaster Twitter - 125rollercoast We met a few of you guys on this trip, we can't wait to meet you in the queue in 2022
When our listeners have a suggestion or a really cool idea, we love it and will make sure we cover it. A month ago we had a suggestion from an anonymous listener on the Audible platform (we actually didn't know we were on it) who asked us our thoughts on the next RMC conversion which is a fantastic subject so here you go. Which current roller coasters do we think RMC should turn into the newest Twisted Timbers, Steel Vengeance, and of course Iron Gwazi? While you have to listen to the episode to hear the coasters, here are the parks that get mentioned : Morey's Piers, Indiana Beach, Hersheypark, Mt Olympus, Silverwood, Universal Orlando, Dutch Wonderland, and numerous Cedar Fair, Sea World and Six Flags parks. We go over the Dinn and CCI coasters that would make good layouts along with five parks we think need an RMC. Finally we give your our top 5 (actually 6 because Janine mentioned one that Paul forgot about). So you love RMC coasters, this is our thoughts on who might be next to be CONVERTED. Can't get enough of Paul & Janine? Check out the BXG Podcast episode 81 where they sit down and discuss Cedar Point, Top Coasters and of course the sad history of Geauga Lake Amusement Park. We had an amazing time being interviewed and make sure you follow our friends at BXG Podcast if all your cultural insights and fun. Next week's episode will focus on Paul's recent trip to Busch Gardens Tampa and Sea World and will have his opinions of the parks and of course Ice Breaker and Iron Gwazi. It will come out on Thursday due to being out of town (hard to pre record this episode when you have to ride them first). Love to meet you and will be at Busch Gardens Tampa on the 18th and Sea World on the 22nd. Let's get social!!! Cedar Point Month concludes with this episode and we are again focusing on the coasters and in particular what we rode during Coaster Mania in 2019. Paul & Janine discuss this fantastic event put on by the park for coaster enthusiasts and we finally discuss what a lot of people consider to be the greatest coaster ever made - Steel Vengeance. Other Highlights in this episode include: Top Ten rankings of the coasters at Cedar Point by Paul & Janine Which is better - Millennium Force or Magnum XL200. And if you ever wanted to taste a mayfly, where do you go. This has been the best month in our podcast history with over 600 downloads and we want to thank everyone for their support. Jake Kilcup is the COO of Rocky Mountain Construction. RMC is a fabricator and manufacturer of amusement rides and roller coasters. The company, based in Hayden, Idaho, USA, has become synonymous with the transformation of old wooden roller coasters into new hybrid attractions. In this episode, Jake tells about how he got started with RMC and what it's been like growing the company over the last 12 years. Reprofiling coasters "We're trying to capture as much of that adrenaline rush as we can while still eliminating the risk." Jake is very open about the high profile reprofiling projects RMC has been involved with such as New Texas Giant and Steel Vengeance. Working with great designers, they work diligently to recreate a feeling on a coaster layout that you may get when careening down a mountain or driving a dune buggy on a sand dune. Unlike fans who wait with anticipation before a ride opens, the RMC crew is knee-deep in all of the design and build details right up to opening day. Jake says that sometimes an opening day will sneak up on them, when a fan can tell you how many days and hours it will be before the scheduled opening to the public. Leaning on the process "Oh yeah, that's the story we sold." When asked about the process of designing a roller coaster, Jake took us through the process from meeting with the client, to the pitch, to design, testing and opening. It's a long process, and Jake feels, based on RMC's track record, that leaning on, or trusting the process, is the key to smooth operations. There will always be changes and roadblocks throughout the journey of building a large “gravity machine” and if you understand where you want to go and how you are going to get there, you can trust the established process. Once the ride is built, the process of seeing if what you sold to the client is actually what you built. Jake reiterates that with great design and build teams, more often than not the story you sold will be the story you deliver. Designing for the demographic “We make it rideable for the demographic. It's smooth, it's safe, it's fun.” Depending on the client needs or wants, RMC can design a coaster to fit the demographic the park is trying to appeal to. Some coasters will hold appeal for emerging coaster enthusiasts as well as more seasoned riders. In the case of a Steel Vengeance, for example, the intensity, height and speed will not be attractive to all riders, and that's okay. The excitement of building coasters is that you can have such a wide variety of experiences and they can all be great. Season Two has begun and we are kicking it off with Cedar Point Month!! That's right, this is the first of four upcoming episodes focusing on this gem of an amusement park on the shores of Lake Erie. Paul is flying solo (Janine is opening a new store this month so her time is LIMITED) and this episode is focusing on the roller coasters that were ridden in 2017 by Paul & Devin for the first year of the 125 Roller Coaster Challenge. That's right, no mention of Steel Vengeance yet (or Mean Streak, Disaster Transport, etc...) because those are coming in future episodes, this one is about the lucky 13 coaster they conquered that day. So if you love Millie, Magnum, Rougarou, and Gemini. Sit back and enjoy this episode as we kick off season 2. You want to win cool stuff like Greg and Adrian have already? During our Quick Hits segment, we talk about several of this week's most interesting stories in the amusement industry, including: Copperhead Strike has seatbelts and people are upset Cedar Point’s Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island Cedar Point letting people carry cell phone in line for Steel Vengeance once again Some great overseas construction pics World Record for most naked people on a roller coaster this weekend We'll talk to our old friend Hagrid to get an update on his new roller coaster at Universal Orlando. Ride This One is back bitches! After a long holiday season where Slater decided he was going to participate in the Wall-E Lifestyle we are back. The theme park community is in shock when they found out Kings Dominion's 20 year old Volcano the blast coaster was getting put to an early grave. What's going in its place? No idea, but slater thinks it's a 500' coaster that goes down into a ravine and has a splashdown effect. Slater looks like a genius when he shows off his knowledge of Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s 315’ star flyer. Along with more I told you so’s where he talks about Busch Gardens Tampa’s Gwazi being currently under construction. Is it possible that Gwazi will be taller than Cedar Point’s Steel Vengeance? The first beyond vertical drop on a RMC Hybrid Coaster? It’s quite possible we shall see. We also discuss how Disney’s new Star Wars Rise of the Resistance might be able to take the place of Ellen’s Energy Adventure for a place to take a nap, since the ride will be 40 minutes long, 40 minutes to get busy in a galaxy long long ago and far far away. We learn that Six Flags Magic Mountain’s West Coast Racer is delayed to a bunch of bitchy home owners who are worried about noise. Why would you build a house next to a theme park when you are worried about it being too noisy? Silver Dollar City is rumored to have a new plan in place to fully remove fire in the hole, and possibly being moved to firefighter’s landing. These are just a few things that you will here on this week’s episode of Ride This One Podcast. _________________________ Website - www.RideThisOne.com Call or Text the show! 26-RIDE-THIS (267) 433-8447 Follow The Show! A good story from our own experience about letting go of the outcome. We took the family to Cedar Point, the roller coaster capital of the world! The favorite ride was Steel Vengeance, their new hybrid coaster built from wood and steel. I could get all carried away with the fun we had there, but it would be better storytelling for you to just listen. The theme park challenged me in so many ways from fear of heights too, yes, letting go of the outcome. Just like twisting upside down and trusting the safety harness on your chest to keep you in, we must trust in our own ride of life. We talk about how fear and critical voices can keep us from creating, speaking our truth, or doing our own healing work. Letting go of the outcome can also help us enjoy the present moment with the people we love. (Theme music: Ethan Anderson) Stream "Letting Go of the Outcome" Relationship Podcast Gems: Helpful as a creative to let go of negative outcomes or critical hecklers. Not in control of the recovery work Jon was doing. I could only do my part, and stay in my own healing work. Letting go creates space for us to enjoy the moment. Connect every day with your desire. Let go of the outcome so you can communicate hard things with your lover. Give them the opportunity to be there. “It’s badder if you know you can fall out.” Your Next Steps: Join our email list for new episodes and articles.
Odds are, you are planning your summertime theme park trips. But how much will it actually cost you to visit parks across the country? We'll talk about it in our First Drop segment. During our Quick Hits segment, the guys talk about several of this week's most interesting stories in the amusement industry, including: Universal Studios Hollywood closing Jurassic Park RIver Adventure to do a Jurassic World overlay Steel Vengeance not part of Fast Lane Plus Ghost Town in the Sky looking at reopening? A Disney Dragon caught on fire during a parade. Then, our Interactive Topic takes a look at the idea of a park charging a special fee to give people access to new lands or hotly anticipated new attractions. How much would YOU pay?
