The Love, Happiness and Success Podcast With Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby
“We talk all the time, but I still feel alone in my marriage.” If that sentence has ever crossed your mind on a Tuesday night, mid-load of dishes, with your partner three feet away, you are not imagining it. And you are not the only one. In this episode, I sit down with Debra Fileta, the licensed therapist who has spent more than twenty years in clinical practice helping couples figure out exactly this. Debra is the author of nine books and the host of the nationally syndicated podcast Talk To Me, and her newest book, People Skills, is built around an idea that I think is going to be a relief for a lot of you. Most relationship pain is not a love problem. It is a skill problem. And skills can be built. In This Episode The three levels of communication, and why almost every couple stalls at level two without realizing it Why “we talk all the time” is not the same thing as feeling close, even after twenty years of marriage The thirty-minute weekly ritual Debra and her husband John have used for fifteen years to keep their marriage from drifting Why being “nice” is not the same as having strong people skills, and the people-pleasing trap that masquerades as kindness How to tell the difference between a one-time conflict and a relationship pattern that is pointing at something deeper The volume-dial reframe for couples where one partner feels everything at a 7 and the other at a 3 The empathy practice that takes thirty seconds and changes the way you see almost everyone in your life Why “I keep attracting the wrong people” is the wrong question, and the better one Debra asks instead Why This Matters This episode is for anyone who has caught themselves thinking, something has shifted between us and I cannot put my finger on what. For the partner who feels like they are always the one initiating real conversation. For the couple who used to talk for hours and now mostly talks about logistics. For anyone who has wondered if needing more depth in their marriage is asking too much. It is not. And the way back is more learnable than you might think. Welcome back to Cheers with Nat – the podcast dedicated to cheering on women in drinks. Before we get started with Episode 2, I wanted to share an exciting update about last week's guest, Georgia Kelly. In true Cheers with Nat fashion, Georgia has also just moved beyond beer! Last week, on the very day her episode was released, she started a new role as a sales rep for Disaronno. Please do take a moment to pop onto LinkedIn and congratulate her, as that's what this show is all about – cheering on women in drinks. What a start! And we've got another incredible guest up next. In today's episode, you're going to hear from Karina Aggarwal, better known on Instagram as GiggleWater411. Considering one of the things Karina loves most about her work is that no two days look alike, we start by digging into her job as a brand strategist and consultant and what it actually entails. We then go all the way back, discussing her childhood interest in Egyptology (and the surprising parallel with her work today), how she created her current role, the hobbies that keep her grounded outside of work, and more. Just before we get into the episode, I wanted to share a little content warning that we also talk about Karina's recent battle with cancer, which she's been very open about on her social media. If you have a loved one living with cancer, like I do, I know these conversations can be tough to hear, but Karina's story is a really inspiring one. She lets us in on why she chose to share her battle so publicly, the positive impact she's had on others by doing so, and the life lessons she's learned from this experience. --- What stuck with me from this conversation: On imposter syndrome: "For me one of the things that has always helped is to know that I've done as much as I could from a preparation point of view… The confidence then comes to say, if there's something that I don't know, it's really ok for me to say, 'Oh wait, that's an interesting question. Let me try to find out about that. I'm not sure.' It doesn't diminish everything else that I know." On her role as a brand strategist: "It may eventually be about selling the product, but you want to establish what the brand is, you want to know who the right audience is to speak to, and how do you speak to the audience." On social media: "The idea is not to say this is the best whiskey or the best beer, it's always to say this for this reason is why I like to drink it or why it's on my bar." On her journey with cancer: Why she shared it publicly: "I just realised that I wanted people to hear from me. Like, I wanted them to know where I was at at that point in my head. That it wasn't a sob story. Yes it was a huge thing and I was sort of getting used to it. But that I was ok." The impact on others: "The other thing that became really important through the journey is that, again, when I first put it out there, I encouraged women to go and get tested. I said it's not something that we are told and I don't know why that is… and a lot of women write to me and said, 'We went. We took our best friends, we took our sisters, we took our mothers. We had been putting it off for a while.' But it was almost like, if it happened to you, it can happen to us." The impact on herself: "I've never been a patient person. I wouldn't say I am one now. But it did teach me a little bit to, you know, pick my battles a little better. Slow things down a little bit. Not need to be everywhere all at once." On scuba diving: "I struggle with getting my mind to shut down… but being in the ocean and diving and just looking at stuff and thinking about how the symbiosis is between these things and how it functions, that really calms me. It stops my mind from wondering." Who is your Inner Child, and what are they (still) saying? It's amazing how strongly our little selves show up in our adult lives. Buckle Up – in this hilarious, profound conversation, Glennon, Abby, and Amanda invite their inner children to come forward and share their delights, blessings, and curses with the Pod Squad. Together, we spiral around: - Why some of us become the family “feeler” and others the “fixer,” and how we can all become more whole; - How to honor the part of you who planned, dreamed, or disassociated to survive, without letting that little kid run your whole adult life; and - How Abby is using music, dancing, and play as an antidote to her anxiety.

We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. You'll hear all the inside scoop on what it's like to be a dive pro, with our guests ranging from brand new instructors to seasoned course directors. On our first Pro Dive, Walter chats with Jordan Wilson, a brand-new Master Scuba Diver Trainer who landed his first job in Grand Cayman this month. Walter and Jordan crossed paths in Utila, Honduras and became fast friends. They talk everything from sailing, Divemaster training, Instructor Development, and hammocks. Jordan's originally from the UK but has found his passion in Caribbean diving. Tune in to hear his story! ~Reminder~ Free Descent is intended as entertainment only and should not replace formal dive instruction. Always follow the direction of your divemasters and instructors and remember to dive within the limits of your training and experience. Stay safe and have fun out there!
Every scuba diver must visit this location at some point in their life. My only regret is not going sooner. We noticed that it's just as mind-blowing to non-divers and kids as it is to certified divers. I also believe it inspires many to go and get involved in the world of scuba diving. In this interview, I speak with the executive director, Lisa Mongelia while at the DEMA Show. She not only gives us some foundational history, but some of the most interesting points and facts about the museum itself. I also found the little hidden Playmobile divers to be wildly fun, in an Easter-eggy kinda way! The history of Diving Museum is a first-class operation with extremely fine attention to detail. This is every diver's bucket-list destination, and it's perfectly situated in the Florida Keys, on Islamorada. From sound effects to things you can touch, we got the vibe of being transported somewhere else. I was shocked at the number of dive helmets and suits that exist out there and loved the timeline and facts along the floor as we walked from one exhibit to the next. They displayed everything from earliest Seibe Gorman dive helmets to the Mark V, as well as all regular scuba diving milestones and even the submersible Jim Suits (atmosphere dive suits). This was one of my all-time favorite maritime attractions, and I will be back! PS I think what really makes this one pop is tha fact that it's right in between SO much scuba diving (between Key Largo and Key West). It just fits. Aniela went on to study Oceanography at Southampton university and during her studies became a PADI divemaster, working the summer breaks at a dive centre in Southern Italy. Aniela has been working as a hydrographic surveyor for three years now which involves mapping the seabed for various scopes such as scientific research, projects concerning green energy installations- wind farms, and communication links. Most of the projects she works on involve the use of ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) which use cutting edge technology allowing high resolution data, especially in deep water. Aniela's passion, aside from the underwater world is communication - Being able to convey her love for the big blue. Join me on the podcast as I sit down with Mark Evans, co-founder of Rork Media and Editorial Director of Scuba Diver Magazine. We delve into his fascinating career journey, intertwining scuba diving with journalism, his profound passion for the sport, and his commitment to delivering top-notch information to the global audience. Mark's love affair with diving began at the tender age of 10, and it has only deepened over the years. In this episode, we explore Mark's hectic schedule and gain insights into the workings of Scuba Diver Magazine, as well as the exciting launch of the inaugural Go Diving Show ANZ, scheduled for this September at the Sydney Showground. It's at this point I would highlight that the show is FREE to enter and also has free parking! Mark's journey includes his tenure as the editor of PADI's Sport Diver UK magazine, which unfortunately came to an end in January 2017. Undeterred, Mark, along with colleague Ross Arnold, seized the opportunity to fill the gap in the market by founding Rork Media. Just a month later, Scuba Diver magazine emerged, offering readers quality content and expert insights. As Editorial Director of Scuba Diver, Mark oversees three magazine editions: UK, North America, and Australia/New Zealand. But his ambition doesn't stop there. Recognizing the need for modernized in-person events, Mark and his team introduced the Go Diving Show in the UK. After three successful years, including a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, the UK show attracted over 10,000 attendees. Now, it's Australia's turn to experience the excitement. The Go Diving Show boasts a stellar lineup of speakers across various stages, including the Main, Photo, Australia/New Zealand, Inspiration, and Tech stages. Attendees can indulge in interactive experiences like VR diving, try dives, encounters with Bruce the rodeo shark, mermaid sightings, and even catch a glimpse of a podcaster you may recognise.Alongside these attractions, a diverse array of exhibitors, ranging from tourist boards to conservation organizations, will surround the stages, providing a comprehensive showcase of the diving world. Join us as we unravel the journey of Mark Evans and explore the vibrant world of diving journalism and events.LINKS:GO Diving ShowScuba Diver MagazineRork MediaDiver Net websiteFOLLOW ON SOCIALS:FacebookHave some thing to share with us? What do scuba divers and astronauts have to do with referrals? I haven't gone off my rocker, stick with me here. I read about this concept in a book called Every Word, and although the concept in that context wasn't about business, it SO applies to business. In this episode, I'll share what your business and referrals actually have to do with scuba divers and astronauts—and how this concept can help you find perspective in the right way.
