Every scuba diver must visit this location at some point in their life. My only regret is not going sooner. We noticed that it's just as mind-blowing to non-divers and kids as it is to certified divers. I also believe it inspires many to go and get involved in the world of scuba diving. In this interview, I speak with the executive director, Lisa Mongelia while at the DEMA Show. She not only gives us some foundational history, but some of the most interesting points and facts about the museum itself.  I also found the little hidden Playmobile divers to be wildly fun, in an Easter-eggy kinda way! The history of Diving Museum is a first-class operation with extremely fine attention to detail. This is every diver's bucket-list destination, and it's perfectly situated in the Florida Keys, on Islamorada.  From sound effects to things you can touch, we got the vibe of being transported somewhere else. I was shocked at the number of dive helmets and suits that exist out there and loved the timeline and facts along the floor as we walked from one exhibit to the next. They displayed everything from earliest Seibe Gorman dive helmets to the Mark V, as well as all regular scuba diving milestones and even the submersible Jim Suits (atmosphere dive suits). This was one of my all-time favorite maritime attractions, and I will be back! PS I think what really makes this one pop is tha fact that it's right in between SO much scuba diving (between Key Largo and Key West). It just fits. Just a month later, Scuba Diver magazine emerged, offering readers quality content and expert insights. As Editorial Director of Scuba Diver, Mark oversees three magazine editions: UK, North America, and Australia/New Zealand. But his ambition doesn't stop there. Recognizing the need for modernized in-person events, Mark and his team introduced the Go Diving Show in the UK. After three successful years, including a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, the UK show attracted over 10,000 attendees. Now, it's Australia's turn to experience the excitement. The Go Diving Show boasts a stellar lineup of speakers across various stages, including the Main, Photo, Australia/New Zealand, Inspiration, and Tech stages. Attendees can indulge in interactive experiences like VR diving, try dives, encounters with Bruce the rodeo shark, mermaid sightings, and even catch a glimpse of a podcaster you may recognise.Alongside these attractions, a diverse array of exhibitors, ranging from tourist boards to conservation organizations, will surround the stages, providing a comprehensive showcase of the diving world. What do scuba divers and astronauts have to do with referrals? I haven't gone off my rocker, stick with me here. I read about this concept in a book called Every Word, and although the concept in that context wasn't about business, it SO applies to business. In this episode, I'll share what your business and referrals actually have to do with scuba divers and astronauts—and how this concept can help you find perspective in the right way. I had to go all the way to Hawaii to find the best scuba diving app on the market today! I walked the cities and beaches interviewing the founder of the all-new Buddy Dive Log App. In this interview we discussed the Dive Log interface and what makes it so special. This particular interview takes place on the beaches of Oahu, just North of Electric Beach, with Guest Alexis Jabbour. She's the mastermind behind the Buddy App, now over 2.5 years in the making! With the Summer 2023 launch happening as we speak, Buddy is making waves throughout the industry as a disruptive platform. It's quickly changing the landscape for divers, freedivers, snorkelers, (and eventually) Mermaids! The Buddy Dive Log app has the best of all the agencies like PADI, SSI, NAUI, and goes well beyond the capabilities of manufacturer apps like Garmin, Suunto, Apple Watch and many others. Buddy combines all the features into one, without those segment barriers that divide our already small industry even smaller. And arguably one of the most important features of all, the Share Builder allows divers to customize, then post to social media directly from the app, toggling what (and what not) to display. Further, it allows you to connect your money accounts for tipping and bookings, verifies your certifications or professional memberships (regardless of agency), lets you share your gear, and of course has all the other fun dive log stuff (literally everything) including a photo filter for underwater adjustments. It has the ability to “friend” and chat with other divers directly on the platform, and helps you find divers in a specific area that match your skill level. It's clean, works smoothly, it's easy to use, and looks to be the most comprehensive diver app YET. It got me excited enough to continue interviewing and discussing this incredible new tool (and yup, I use it now!). Not to worry, it's even set up for those that aren't certified yet, so literally anyone can download this app. It's also important to note this app is free in its full form, so no pesky click bait ads. Are you intrigued by the complexities of underwater photography? Nicolas Remy (multi award-winning underwater photographer and founder of The Underwater Club) joins me in the studio to shed some light on this intricate art.Nicolas and his wife Lena caught my attention initially with their stunning photos and furthermore because they dived on rebreathers. To me, rebreather diving to photograph marine life makes inherent sense, and I wanted to explore this fascinating topic with Nicolas in this episode. The extended dive times, the silence, and the opportunity to get much closer to your subject without disturbance are some of the benefits Nicolas highlights, while also discussing the two rebreathers they use, the Revo and Horizon. Not only does Nicolas take a superb shot; he enjoys sharing his skills with others. Teaching people and breaking subjects down into a more understandable format is truly a passion of his. So, Nicolas has quit the corporate world and devoted the last 18 months to fine-tuning The Underwater Club and its contents. It is an exceptional forum for two-way communications and jam-packed with Nicolas' knowledge to be shared with all club members through various means, expanding on his availability as a one-on-one coach.A keen writer, he has also penned content for Scuba Diver magazine and Narked at 90, with additional content in WETPIXEL and OZ Diver. We anticipate the launch of the Underwater Club's website very soon; to stay in the loop you can sign up for the newsletter (and have an added chance to win a prize).  Join me in the studio as Nicolas takes us from his first discover scuba dive on Kangaroo Island, to global recognition for his underwater photography and the formation of The Underwater Club. DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN A PRIZE! With 700+ episodes in our archive, we're excited to revisit some of our favorites with y'all! In this episode, along with Sundance co-hort John Wildman,we throw back to our conversation earlier this year with director Margaret Brown of the film Descendant. We were blown away by this documentary and are thrilled to see it finally make a wide release on Netflix starting today, October 21. Our original episode description is below: Descendant follows the descendants of Clotilda, the last known slave vessel illegally brought to  America, before, during, and after finding the first remains of the ship. Director Margaret Brown shares not only the emotional, but also the environmental issues in historic Africatown (in Southern Alabama where this film takes place), and her own emotional journey in making this film.Descendant is the perfect pairing of the Netflix series High on the Hog as well as the Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America which we have covered on this podcast as well.  You can follow director Margaret Brown on IG & Twitter--Be well, stay safe, Black Lives Matter, AAPI Lives Matter, and abortion is normal. Thanks for listening and for your support!
