Alexander Sorenson is Lecturer of German and Comparative Literature at Binghamton University, State University of New York. His research and teaching interests center upon interdisciplinary themes and issues related to the environmental humanities, such as the interface between philosophy, literature, art and the history of science. We spoke to Alexander about the difference between German realism and English and French realism; what the symbolic meaning is behind one the most recurring motifs in German Realist literature—death by drowning; and the deep connections between this drowning motif with Ovid's Metamorphoses as well as Shakespeare's character Ophelia in Hamlet.

This is Renegade Files Episode 12, The Socorro UFO SightingOn April 24th, 1964, Socorro Police officer Lonnie Zamora was returning to the station at the end of an uneventful day. What happened next marked the end of his boring days for the foreseeable future. On that afternoon Lonnie Zamorra witnessed what has become one of the most enduring Unexplained UFO Sightings in American History. This is a case with a credible witness whose character has remained sterling for decades. It is also a case with a few, very late in the game, and frankly desperate debunking attempts, which are worth going over for their sheer comedic value. We will examine the claims put forth by Officer Lonnie Zamora, investigate the physical evidence of the sighting and its aftermath, and entertain some of the straw-grasping attempts to explain away this unique UFO event. So grab your Geiger counter, your 8mm home movie camera, and your mirror shades and come with me once again to the American southwest, as we explore The Socorro UFO Sighting.Merchandise https://www.bonfire.com/store/renegade-files/Patreon https://www.patreon.com/renegadefilesWebsite http://therenegadefiles.comIf you listen to Renegade Files on Spotify, Click the new Review Button on the left below the main show description to leave a 5 star review if you think we deserve it, which helps the show find new listeners. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/yumu-review/message

Submergence into the Subconscious Another raw, open, transparent #solocast from Niamh as she shares her journey of navigating the subtle realms of the subconscious and how these sometimes seemingly minute unconscious programs, patterns and imprints can keep us playing out a limited expression of life both on a personal level but also on a transpersonal level too. This #solocast is to bring a voice to the inner dialogue, to give you an opportunity to go on a deeper exploration of your own subconscious and bring to light a greater awareness of your own perceived limitations and ultimately to free yourself from the tyranny, the cyclical loops and archetypal behaviours that have been keeping you from experiencing your true expressed potential. A conversation of radical self sovereignty and self responsibility for those that are on this journey. If this episode resonated with you and if you would like to reach out for support, guidance in anyway please contact Niamh info@attuneme.org or visit our website www.attuneme.org for more information about this work.

Trevlig lyssning!

This week we take on a smart book. Maybe too smart. Rider first stumbled upon Submergence by JM Ledgard when it was given as an example of complex grown up literature within an article about the popularity of Young Adult work. The trio decided to give it a try, and are pretty unanimous in its brilliance. But does brilliance make a book meaningful? Or…fun? Specifically, the group discusses how the worldliness and scientific complexity of Submergence might not be enough to make up for its minimal plot. Up first, the triumphant return of Judging a Book by Its Cover. Will the trio be able to tell things about a book from the first paragraph? Will they maybe know exactly which book it is? Karen explains that the essence of the emerging church is a theological question about how best to represent Jesus within their zip code. While there probably is no such thing as a typical COTA service, Karen describes a goth mass there.
