Satan desires to corrupt every aspect of a woman's life—from her relationships and friendships to her self-perception, empathy, and even her motherhood. In this podcast, Scott Brown and Jason Dohm discuss this battle with Tilly Dillehay, author of Dear Hemlock. Her new book—which is modeled after C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters—offers an eye-opening exploration of the struggles women face, shedding light on how feminine virtues can mask hidden vices whenever they fall for the Devil's lies, as Eve did in the Garden. Rather than succumb to Satan's deceptions, women must conquer them with a clear-eyed commitment to God's Word.

(Note: This episode is from Tonight with Dr. Steve's special Thursday livestream.) The liberal media is officially melting down. They're going through a cataclysmic existential crisis as they see their entire world being dismantled every hour of every passing day, and it hasn't even been a week yet. Just think how much the world has changed in just a matter of days, and in many respects, Trump hasn't even gotten started yet. And so, it's obvious the legacy media is in a full-blown nervous breakdown. In the second part of this episode, I chat with Tilly Dillehay about culture, family, and the oppression of the devil. Tilly is a pastor's wife and homeschooling mother of four in the smallest county in Tennessee. She is the author of several bestselling Christian books and her new book My Dear Hemlock provides an imaginative twist to The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. As we head out of the holiday season and into the new year, we may be tempted to swing from extremes when it comes to food. We've enjoyed more than we should and now we are going to focus on rigidity. Tilly Dillehay challenges us to examine our relationship with food and our own tendencies that take us away from God's good intent: to enjoy the gift of food for the flourishing of our bodies and relationships. Tilly talks about "four poles" of extremes and how we can shift our mindsets away from extremes toward health. As a woman who struggled with an eating disorder for years, Tilly knows how food can be used as an exterior control tool for inner turmoil. Her solution to a healthy approach to food is grace and relationships. When we seek more of who God is and his purposes here on earth, we become less obsessed with food and more likely to enjoy and use it with a healthy lens. This isn't a conversation about how to lose the COVID-20 you gained in 2020 or how to cook with a calorie count in mind, it is a step back that asks What was God's intent with food in the first place? And how can I experience his goodness through meals with others?

Today, Tilly Dillehay and I are talking about envy, the topic of her book, Seeing Green.  Tilly explains the difference between envy and jealousy and covetousness.  (Did you know they were different?)  She shares why she wrote a book on this subject, how it was extremely personal to her and how she has found that many women struggle with this, but it’s not something that’s often talked about. Tilly shares her teenage dream of being a jazz musician and how when she heard her younger sisters sing for the first time, she was touched by their beautiful music, but also felt the deep horror that this beauty was so close to her, but didn’t belong to her.  Tilly tells us how this pain continued and how she pulled away from her sisters, not even realizing what exactly was effecting her.  She later came to understand that is was envy, confessed it and worked to reconcile those relationships.  Tilly and I talk about glory and how it relates to envy.  In her book, Tilly writes about seven different glories people may have that could result in us being envious.  She also tells us that the glory you are pursuing, is the one you would be most likely to see and envy in someone else.  Lastly, Tilly shares steps we can take if we find envy in our own hearts.  Tilly holds a degree in journalism from Lipscomb University. In the past, she has been the editor of a weekly newspaper and of a lifestyle magazine, and now she serves as homemaker and mother to two little girls and a brand new baby boy.  She writes at www.justinandtilly.com and contributes occasionally to The Gospel Coalition.  She is the host of The Green Workshop, an event for women on the subject of envy that is held at local churches.     MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Seeing Green: Don’t Let Envy Color Your Joy   The Weight of Glory by C.S. Today's episode features Tilly Dillehay, author of Seeing Green: Don't Let Envy Color Your Joy, and today Tilly offers some very insightful wisdom when it comes to being envious of others. My prayer as you listen is that you will be able to identify what exactly you are envying in another woman so that you can confess it before the father and instead of feeling steeped in envy, move toward a relationship filled with praise – both for that woman and for God who crated her.
