Welcome to The Winston Marshall Show.Back in 2021, I quit my band Mumford & Sons. That's a story for another day. But the long and short of it is that I decided it was better to live honestly than to stay silent, better to speak freely than to self-censor. Well, two and a half years later, I can truthfully say, it's a much better way to live. It's the only way to live.I then joined The Spectator and started my show Marshall Matters, , , Yeonmi Park, Posie Parker, Michael Shellenberger () and many, many more.It was a privilege.Well now I'm going independent. I'll continue interviewing leading writers, authors, artists, journalists, musicians, scientists, entrepreneurs and heterodox voices across the world. Back then, I started because I was trying to make sense of what the hell was going on. Well, it's 2024 now, and things are a whole lot more fucked up.So it should be interesting.I'm excited for you to join me on this journey, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.Welcome to The Winston Marshall Show. This is the remastered/re-recorded episode of Yeonmi Park's interview on JRE that we covered almost 2 years ago. It was redone with the purpose of bringing the story to light. It's the story of her journey to freedom and her escape from North Korea. We go through the social structure, language, and the over all lifestyle of the North Korean people forced upon them. We highlight China's involvement in North Korea as well as Yeonmi's take on the parallels between North Korea and Americas current use of censorship. We encourage you listen to the entire episode that we broke down, but again if you can't that's where we come in!
For our final episode of the series, we're delighted to welcome world renowned activist and North Korean defector, Yeonmi Park. After escaping from North Korea as a child, Yeonmi suffered at the hands of human traffickers in China, but still speaks openly about her experiences and uses her profile to shine a light on this worldwide issue. We discuss her story and how we can all use the privileges of our freedom to highlight how many people aren't afforded such luxuries. In this uniquely sobering SITC interview, Ms. Park details her early years: foraging for plants and eating bugs to stay alive in "Socialist Paradise," her family's involvement in the black market, escaping to China and being sold into slavery, and seeking freedom in South Korea by way of the Gobi Desert. The conversation then moves to Yeonmi's time studying at Columbia University in New York City. With insight from her time spent in a dictatorship filled with indoctrination, censorship, and mob rule, Park speaks to the current American landscape. The interview took place on March 30th, 2023 — 16 years to the day of her escape from North Korea in 2007 — at the Union League Club in New York City. To learn more about Socrates in the City, head to socratesinthecity.com. Yeonmi's Books "In Order To Live" and "While Time Remains" are available at socratesinthecity.com/shop/. About the Book While Time Remains: A North Korean Defector's Search for Freedom in America by Yeonmi Park. February 14, 2023 NATIONAL BESTSELLER The North Korean defector, human rights advocate, and bestselling author of In Order to Live sounds the alarm on the culture wars, identity politics, and authoritarian tendencies tearing America apart. After defecting from North Korea, Yeonmi Park found liberty and freedom in America. But she also found a chilling crackdown on self-expression and thought that reminded her of the brutal regime she risked her life to escape. When she spoke out about the mass political indoctrination she saw around her in the United States, Park faced censorship and even death threats. In While Time Remains, Park highlights the dangerous hypocrisies, mob tactics, and authoritarian tendencies that speak in the name of wokeness and social justice. No one is spared in her eye-opening account, including the elites who claim to care for the poor and working classes but turn their backs on anyone who dares to think independently. Park arrived in America eight years ago with no preconceptions, no political aims, and no partisan agenda. With urgency and unique insight, the bestselling author and human rights activist reminds us of the fragility of freedom, and what we must do to preserve it. Part 2 of Yeonmi Park's interview with Joe continues this hour... you don't want to miss it... why she escaped North Korea for a bowl of rice!
On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, climate change has nothing to do with science and it never has. If government has the power to regulate air and water, then there are no limits to the power it has. They want to regulate you. It's also a way to destroy government sovereignty. No scientist will say carbon dioxide is a pollutant - it can't be because you're exhaling it. Later, Speaker Kevin McCarthy calls in to discuss his debt ceiling plan, which would raise the debt ceiling in exchange for spending cuts. The real problem isn't the revenue, it's the expenditures. President Biden wants to spend more money than we did at the height of the pandemic. If we do nothing, in the next 10 years we will pay $10.5 Trillion just in interest alone. Afterward, VP Mike Pence calls in with his take on abortion and foreign policy. Democrat's position on abortion is the extremists' position - they support taxpayer funding of abortion, up to the moment of birth. The Biden administration destroyed everything President Trump did in the Middle East. This is the absence of American leadership on the world stage. Finally, Yeonmi Park, who escaped North Korea, calls in to talk about her new book, While Time Remains: A North Korean Defector's Search for Freedom in America. https://www.amazon.com/While-Time-Remains-Defectors-Freedom/dp/1668003317/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1681841378&sr=8-1 Learn more about your ad choices. Jeremiah and Andrew interview Yeonmi Park a North Korean defector who risked her life to escape from North Korea
Yeonmi Park is an activist and author who fled to the United States after being a victim of sex trafficking. Park recounts her oppressive childhood in North Korea, starved and without electricity. She remembers how the lights of neighboring countries gave her hope for a better life. She spares no detail when explaining what a society under a ruthless dictator, mass killings, and delusional propaganda looks like. Yeonmi takes us through her harrowing journey being smuggled out of North Korea only to meet a new terrifying reality - the Chinese sex trade. Park speaks frankly about the realities of survival in captivity and the pain she carries with her still today. We wrap up with her rescue by missionaries and her first brush with freedom in Times Square. Yeonmi illuminates some hard truths and warns of the signs of communism seeping into the United States.
