— “The pain of life is pure salt – no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains exactly the same. But the amount of pain we taste depends on the container we put it into. When you are in pain, the only thing you can do is enlarge your sense of things Stop being a glass. Become a lake.” Childhood sexual abuse is the most traumatic of all wounds, for it is a betrayal at the very root of our being. It turns us against ourselves in such a way that, more often than not, victims become convinced that the fault is theirs. To find a way back from that injury, to prevail and rise above it, is to do the seemingly impossible. In Anne de Nada's book: Twisted Roots, Standing Tall, she recounts her long dance from the darkness of the soul into the love and light of an open heart, as she courageously heeds her soul's insistence and clears away her legacy of trauma from both infant sexual abuse and incest. Born into both emotional and economic poverty, Anne's early life consisted of only obstacles and challenges. But she never gave up, and she continually trusted in her own guidance, being rewarded with insight and wisdom. Whenever it felt like her life was not flowing, she took that as a sign that it was time to do more healing, clearing away the trauma that lay embedded deep in cellular memory. Anne's story speaks to the gift of grace and the indomitable courage of the human heart. As Anne continued to heal, she discovered many essential truths about life, among them that we are never given something we cannot handle, that life is about manifesting the deepest desires of our hearts, and that the thing we most fear is our own greatness.  Valeria Teles interviews Anne De Nada — the author of “Twisted Roots, Standing Tall: My Journey to Heal, Learn, and Rise from the Trauma of Childhood Sexual Abuse.” Anne de Nada is an author, speaker, artist, poet and advocate for awareness of sexual violence. Having been orphaned and left destitute at 16 years old, she transcended her trauma to attain an education and become a successful businesswoman and world traveler. Today, de Nada is a healer in her own right, and her purpose is to inspire others to heal their lives and to bring more light and love into the world for the benefit of all humanity. She has also written “Whispers of Grace: Volume I” and “Whispers of Grace: Volume II,” which showcase her art and poetry. To learn more about Anne De Nada and her work, please visit: annedenada.com       — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. The inspiration is Love. The aspiration is to awaken new ways of thinking that can lead us to a new way of being, being well.

“The Ghosts” Kira Roessler, who was just known back in the '80s as KIRA, was the bassist for the legendary Black Flag from '84 to '86. A ferocious outfit that played a physical and fiery brand of blistering and punishing punk rock, Kira was no stranger to getting in the van and tearing from town to town with her bandmates. After leaving Black Flag, the UCLA educated Roessler who had also played with DC3, the Monsters, the Visitors and Twisted Roots, formed the bass-led duo Dos with her husband Mike Watt. Dos put out a couple of great albums and then Roessler retreated a bit from music and focused on her day job as dialog editor in the film industry. With a few Emmys under her belt and contributing to two Academy Award- winning films, Kira has done dialog editing on Game of Thrones, Joker, Mad Max Fury Road and A Star is Born. Her debut self-titled solo album is an intricate and instrumentally complex album. With vocals that bring to mind a blend of Kim Deal and Hope Sandoval and bass-fueled arrangements that provide a perfect foundation for the compositions, KIRA is a moving and stirring debut. In this chat, Kira talks to Alex about carving out time for the creative process, the power of musical minimalism and memories of d. Boon. https://kittenrobot.com/records www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenonline.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com Stereo Embers Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

I had to reschedule this week's planned guest (stay tuned for February 3rd...). I've been obsessively working on a new composition for the past few days, so I decided that I'd use this week's show to present, demonstrate, and test drive some components of MODAL EXPLORATION!The patch uses University of Iowa EMS instrument samples, found here: theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.htmlWill Huff's "HarpMusic" was an inspiration for Modal Exploration, and you can find his music here: huffcomposer.comI adapted some data from David Huron's book Sweet Anticipation to help the patch convey the different modes. Check out Huron's research here: csml.som.ohio-state.edu/HuronI've also made a lot of other music, which you can find all of these places: justinkcomer.com / justinkcomer.bandcamp.com / soundcloud.com/justin-comer-1 / youtube.com/justinkcomer / facebook.com/justinkcomer / twitter.com/justinkcomer / instagram.com/justinkcomerOur next (*FREE*) iHearIC concert will be 1/25 8pm at The Mill, featuring performances by Maul of America, The Twisted Roots, and Treecloud! Announcing...the "Pondering Things Catholic" podcast with Fr. Paul Gros! On today's episode of the Faith & Good Counsel show we have the gift of getting to know a bit about Fr. Paul Gros, and his new podcast being produced in the Faith & Good Counsel studio. We had a lot of fun with this episode, with "becoming acquainted" with Fr. Paul in the first segment, and in the second segment heading into an idea of what you can expect from the episodes "in the can". There's also a little something new that I'm debuting in this episode - the first Faith & Good Counsel Inspirational Minute!  You'll hear this one tucked nicely between today's two show segments.   I simply know you will come to love Fr. Paul as I have. You might consider having your prayer journal and scripture handy - his episodes may just be some of those that pique a the desire to take out your favorite pen and jot some notes for pondering:)  As you will find over time, Fr. Paul has a gift for piercing right to the heart with theology + overall health and wellness, and you'll have a taste for that in his first episodes: Perfectionism, and Broken God & Self-Images  Twisted Roots of Our Present Pain & Suffering  The Delusion of Control Following these, you can look forward to discussions dealing with forgiveness amidst deep hurt, scrupulosity, and how to respond to ourselves and others in and through the Sacred Heart of Christ (which might just be my favorite episode thus far:).   And more to come!   You'll find Fr. Paul's "Pondering Things Catholic" Podcast page here.   The truth is that only in the mystery of the incarnate Word does the mystery of man take on light. For Adam, the first man, was a figure of Him Who was to come, namely Christ the Lord. Christ, the final Adam, by the revelation of the mystery of the Father and His love, fully reveals man to man himself and makes his supreme calling clear. It is not surprising, then, that in Him all the aforementioned truths find their root and attain their crown. He Who is "the image of the invisible God" (Col. 1:15), is Himself the perfect man. To the sons of Adam He restores the divine likeness which had been disfigured from the first sin onward. Since human nature as He assumed it was not annulled, by that very fact it has been raised up to a divine dignity in our respect too. For by His incarnation the Son of God has united Himself in some fashion with every man. He worked with human hands, He thought with a human mind, acted by human choice and loved with a human heart. Born of the Virgin Mary, He has truly been made one of us, like us in all things except sin.  (Gaudium et spes 22-24)

The remaining two tunes in the set come from the repertoire of the Art Thieves, an eclectic neo-psych band led by Kimsey which featured various members of the current group way back in the 20th century and whose albumArkanum: Selections, 1981-1993, is available from the same outlets. The Twisted Roots Ensemble first came together in 2003 to perform Kimsey's award-winning song cycle Twisted Roots: Music, Politics and the American Dream Blues, which has been described by Ben Sidran, former host of NPR's Jazz Aliveand score composer for Hoop Dreams, as "an ingenious way to integrate political and social commentary into a musical architecture," and by DePaul University chaplain Anthony Nicotera as "music to inspire the soul and charge your commitment to peace and justice."  To find out more, go to John Kimsey, musician on Facebook.

The good news is that The Underworld is now on a new day and time! Our live show now airs Monday nights from 10:00 pm to midnight. This puts us in FCC "Safe Harbor" hours, meaning we can play ANY music we want - without fear of FCC indecency and profanity laws! So, keep listening to The Underworld. It's just got better!!The great news is that the music featured in this episode of The Underworld will beat your ass like you owed it money. Finally making good on a promise to Mark from A Simple Complex, we played tunes from Synthetic Killing Unit, Crazy Jane, and Full Tilt. Now, the bad news. First, our two scheduled guests - Eric from Q and St1tch from Mushroomhead were given the wrong date for our interviews. So, we'll catch them another time - soon. Second, I've discovered the loss of our show of September 30, featuring Dave Ellefson of F5 (former long-time bassist for Megadeth) and Pete from Twisted Roots. Nothing I can do about it, and it sucks ass. Here's your podcast. I hope you choke on it.We TOLD you it rocks!
