This past year, we witnessed a diss track win Grammys and get performed at the Super Bowl, but over three decades ago, there was another diss track that became an unlikely hit. “Pop Goes the Weasel” by 3rd Bass took aim at Vanilla Ice and the growing commercialization of hip-hop, delivering biting bars over a beat laced with samples from Peter Gabriel and Stevie Wonder. It climbed to #1 on the Billboard Rap chart and gave the trio—MC Serch, Pete Nice, and DJ Richie Rich—their biggest mainstream moment. Our good buddy PJ Caruso joins us this week to talk about the brief but impactful rise of 3rd Bass, a group that took shots at others on the way up, only to turn their lyrical weapons on each other not long after. Hey, everyone - Dave here. As we get into the unbearable hellscape that is Summer, please remember to get your Air Conditioner checked regularly, lest you end up overcranking your system and turning one of your employees into an ice cube. The podcast you are about to hear is a cautionary tale of Air Conditioner negligence and stale, frozen comedy premises. I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we wheeze the juice are fellow cinephiles and Cro-Magnon men, Mike and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include a comedy premise that feels like it was frozen in the 80s; Sean Astin tests our tolerance with the loathsome character of “Dave”; and finally, we track the rise and fall of Pauly Shore, the Weasel of the 90s. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Colonel Leo Thorsness served as a fighter pilot in Vietnam. He was a Wild Weasel, whose missions required them to draw surface-to-air (SAM) missiles away from bombers, and then destroy the SAM sites. This meant that Weasels spent sometimes more than 20 minutes over the target, as opposed to the one or two minutes bomber pilots spent. On one mission, COL Thorsness' wingman was shot down, forcing him to eject. As he parachuted to the ground, rescue helicopters were called in to rescue him, but they were threatened by encroaching enemy fighters. Despite being incredibly low on fuel, Thorsness fought off the enemy, saving his wingman and the rescue helicopters. Eleven days later, Thorsness was shot down and captured by the North Vietnamese Army. He was captured, and became a prisoner of war. During his first three years in captivity, torture was common. After six years, he was released and sent home. Shortly after returning to the United States, COL Thorsness was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving his wingman. Learn more about your ad choices. Wormy weasely Cora probably promised Devers the baby he would DH in the offseason. Breslow did the right thing and talked to him. That is Cora's job! Devers is a loser who won a ring. The rumor of Devers shopping for first baseman gloves was a lie! Unbelievable. Callers react to the conversation. The reactions to Devers comments in the clubhouse were not good. The front office clearly loves Cora.

Hello to you listening in Shrewsbury, UK!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.“It doesn't matter how long you have forgotten, only how soon you remember.” (Buddha)We don't often recall our memories with any reliable accuracy. But that's okay. Sharing our stories is not about nailing down the facts of an event or the exact recall of circumstances. Rather, the point of stories is to take the splintered, fractioned, mismatched pieces of our lives and, by telling the stories we need to tell stitch together moments of wholeness.Over my storytelling decades I have to come to realize that I don't need to translate or provide meaning for life events. When I speak my stories from the heart I begin to shift away from painful episodes to heal the suffering I've attached to what those episodes mean or meant. What happens next? By sharing my story maybe I help someone else heal. How do I know? I hear someone say: “What! You, too! I thought I was the only one.” C.S. LewisLike the Badger in Crow and Weasel by Barry Lopez reminds us: “The stories people tell have a way of taking care of them. If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive. That is why we put these stories in each other's memory. This is how people care for themselves.”Question: What happens when you open the door to retelling a story that you've forgotten but now you remember? The brackets are set, March is here, and it's time for the madness! The NCAA tournament hasn't even begun, yet the drama has already started. Despite a lackluster season, the UNC Tar Heels have somehow snuck into the tournament, taking the place of more deserving schools. To make matters even worse, the chairman of the Selection Committee also happens to be UNC's athletic director, Bubba Cunningham. Is there foul play afoot? Jason, later joined by Steve Kim, breaks down the possible corruption behind the Selection Committee controversy, along with other major stories: ESPN's shocking decision to exclude Caitlin Clark from its list of the top five women's college basketball players of all time. Bill Belichick's bizarre beach sighting with his much younger girlfriend. Even Mina Kimes took to X to mock the Hall of Fame coach's antics. The NFL off-season continues to shake things up, as the Cincinnati Bengals extend both of their star wide receivers — making Ja'Marr Chase the highest-paid non-QB in league history and Tee Higgins one of the top 10 highest-paid wide receivers. In this episode of the Afterburn Podcast, Mike “Flash” McVay hosts Leonard “Lucky” Ekman and Jim “Gringo” Webster, two original Wild Weasel fighter pilots from Vietnam, as they share firsthand experiences and insights from their military careers. This is Part I of the five-part Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) Series. The discussion follows their journeys from joining the military to their roles in some of the most dangerous combat missions of the Vietnam War. They dive deep into the evolution of the Wild Weasel mission, a high-risk operation designed to counter deadly surface-to-air missile (SAM) threats. “Lucky” and “Gringo” reflect on their intense training, the dangers they faced in combat, and the unbreakable camaraderie among fighter pilots. They recount harrowing encounters with SAMs, detailing the tactics and strategies Wild Weasel crews developed to survive and protect their fellow aviators. The conversation highlights the evolution of air combat tactics, the advanced technology used in their aircraft, and the role of intelligence in mission success. They share personal accounts of flying against formidable air defenses, the mental and physical demands of their missions, and the calculated risks that defined the Weasel community. This episode is a deep dive into the Wild Weasel legacy—its impact on modern air warfare, the sacrifices made, and the lessons passed down to future generations of fighter pilots.
