The Wonderland Murders, also known as the Four on the Floor Murders, occurred on July 1, 1981, in Los Angeles' Laurel Canyon. The victims were members and associates of the Wonderland Gang, a group involved in drug dealing and armed robberies. The murders took place at 8763 Wonderland Avenue, where four people were brutally bludgeoned to death with hammers and metal pipes. The victims included Ron Launius, Billy DeVerell, Joy Miller, and Barbara Richardson. Susan Launius, Ron's wife, was the sole survivor, despite severe injuries1. The plan was simple, throw a rock 'n roll festival that's better than New York's 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. Ted Nugent) Bob Seger Bang Ravi Shankar Brownsville Station Rod Stewart Black Oak Arkansas the Eagles Slade Nazareth After being BANNED in Evansville, Indiana by the Mayor, the festival was moved to Illinois, but the only way to access the festival grounds was a single road from the Indiana side, this created a lawless wasteland. Just walk down "Alice in Wonderland Avenue", a makeshift row of drug vendors for all of your festival drug needs. After watching the naked people wash themselves in the waters of the Wabash River, head over to the Turd Fields to... well, you get the idea and don't forget to stop by the food trucks for a truck burning or two! For all it's troubles, attendees universally claim it was a an amazing concert weekend, with very little violence. Thanks in part to the "karate experts" from Chicago and Los Angles, the promoters hired to keep the peace. Get ready for Scary Mysteries Twisted Two's. #1 The Wonderland Massacre More gruesome than the Manson Family killings, the crime scene at 8763 Wonderland Avenue in Los Angeles, California, appalled police and shocked many. On July 1, 1981, police arrived at the home and found a gory bloodbath. Four known drug dealers had been heavily bludgeoned and killed. The scene was so bad that the coroner had to scrape parts of the victim remains from the furniture, wall, and ceiling. #2 The Mongolian Death Worm Located in the southern part of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia is said to hide a mysterious creature known in the West as the Mongolian Death Worm. Stories of the death worm date back to the early 1920’s. It was first mentioned in the West in a book called, On the Trail of Ancient Man, by paleontologist, Roy Chapman Andrews. The real-life Indiana Jones inspiration said he heard stories of the monster at a gathering with Mongolian officials. He was skeptical of its existence but the officials described it in detail and believed it existed.

If you're drawn to true crime shows and podcasts, you may have heard the voice of Tracy Pattin. She is the host and co-producer of the popular Hollywood & Crime podcast by Wondery, which delves into the unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short (aka The Black Dahlia) in 1947, as well as the murder of more than a dozen other women who died in similar circumstances around the same time. Orian Williams was born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised in Houston, Texas. A graduate of Baylor University, Orian moved to Los Angeles in the early 1990’s . After a few years as a successful producer of commercials, Orian formed a fortuitous alliance with the director E. Elias Merhige, whose work Orian was an early champion of after seeing his acclaimed University thesis feature film BEGOTTEN. Williams first film was to set up SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE the Academy Award nominated film starring Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich at Saturn Films, Nicolas Cage’s production company directed by Merhige. In 2004 Orian secured the rights to the book “Touching from a Distance,” a biography based on the life of Ian Curtis, lead singer of the band Joy Division, written by Ian’s widow, Deborah Curtis. Ian committed suicide in 1980 just 2 days before the bands first American tour and reformed under the name New Order. The highly regarded photographer/video director Anton Corbijn, directed and was his first feature film. CONTROL stars Sam Riley as Ian Curtis, Samantha Morton and Alexandra Maria Lara. CONTROL had its world premiere in Cannes 2007 opening the Director’s Fortnight and came away with 3 awards including Best European Film and 4 BAFTA nominations including one win for writer and 10 BIFA nominations with 5 wins including Best Picture. Orian then set his eyes on Jack Kerouac, producing two films about his life, a documentary about the book ‘Big Sur’ then the feature film BIG SUR Written and Directed by Michael Polish, BIG SUR stars, Jean Marc Barr as Kerouac and Josh Lucas as Neal Cassady, Kate Bosworth, Radha Mitchell and Henry Thomas also star. Currently Orian is producing WONDERLAND AVENUE with David Fincher, which focuses on Danny Sugerman and his young life in Los Angeles in the 1960’s, Fred Durst will direct, set up at New Regency. 

Robert Kensinger moved to L.A. in the late 70's. He was hoping to make it as a film director after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design. He stumbled into a job as a personal assistant to the legendary actor, writer, and director Orson Welles. Kensinger worked for Welles off and on for several years before he left to write scripts for indie producer Roger Corman. Then he carved out a long career as a set decorator on many studio films. People tend to think of Orson Welles as inactive or diminished during those final years – living off Laurel Canyon on Wonderland Avenue, earning a living starring in wine commercials and making the rounds of TV talk shows. But Kensinger remembers the director of Citizen Kane as vital and alive, working hard as ever on projects including his last film, The Other Side of the Wind. It remains unfinished to this day.
